I love this place, the food is excellent, fresh authentic, and the sushi is great. Even though it's in a strip mall it's beautiful inside. They give you hot tea and crispy fried noodles with duck sauce prior to your food which are delicious. It reminds me of the way Chinese places used to be in the 80s. My daughter and I came here last night for the first time. We had miso soup, edamame, three rolls(nice deal, three rolls for $12, good variety)and shared a Chinese dish, House Special Noodle. The miso soup was phenomenal! Edamame was enjoyable. The salt was a little unevenly sprinkled, but that's no big deal. The sushi was delicious. A couple of pieces opened up, but overall very good. The house special noodle dish was quite good too. Our server, Michael was polite and professional. Very accommodating! When we were leaving, we were approached by possibly the owner, offering us a takeout container of chicken lo mein for free, since one extra order was mistakenly made. We gladly accepted the offer! Called three times looking for order, was told each time the driver is on their way, who still isn't here. Kept being told "We are busy." I bite one just to make sure it's chicken nuggets for benefit of the doubts that how their chicken wings could be. We called the restaurant and the waiter on the phone end said "make sure you bring back the whole bag and not the little left of it". As if we tried to claim free food. Took us 10 min to drive there and 10 min to drive back for the food. Then another 10 min there and 10 min back to get the correct order. Waste of gas and a bad attitude. Wow. I'm so impressed the sushi here is top notch. We ordered the Godzilla roll, the Manhattan, the warrington and the angry dragon (which was my favorite) and every one was delicious! I ordered himachi (yellowtail) with jalapeño which was off the menu and it was very good except I should've asked for it sliced extra thin before ordering... the service was exceptional. I'm very picky about my five star ratings but the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars automatically was because we did have to wait a little longer than I expected for our main dishes to come to the table. Stopped into this restaurant for takeout since I was shopping nearby and have been trying to find a great place to get Asian food. They offer a 10% discount if you order online. I ordered chicken with broccoli lunch special with egg drop soup and a chicken pad Thai. The chicken with broccoli was decent, though a small portion for the price. The soup was just ok, but they get extra points for having homemade crunchy soup noodles instead of the cheap premade ones. I may have even given the place 4 stars if my review ended here, but the pad Thai- yuck. This was the worst I've ever eaten. The taste was all wrong, it was filled with red and green peppers, the noodles weren't authentic. I don't know where their recipe came from but this could not have been much worse- very disappointing! I wouldn't recommend ordering anything "Thai" from this menu, because the chef must have no idea what Thai food looks or tastes like. read more

My father and I went to try a new restaurant next door but it wasn't a full service restaurant so we tried the adjacent restaurant, Joy Chalet. We live a mile and a half away and was very surprised we had no idea it was there! We ordered soup, split a sushi plate and shared an order of Pad Thai. If I could give this restaurant 10 stars I would. Food was exceptional. Never had Japanese and Thai food this good. Everything is so fresh and well presented. Service was very good as well. My family and I came in to try this new restaurant and looked friendly from the outside. When we walked in it was really hot inside it kind of felt like the heater was on. Also no one greeted us. I have seen that as lunch specials but not dinner...and that was my pick. My sushi rolls were fresh and good as expected. I started with an egg roll which was, sadly, very disappointing. It was too doughy and not enough filler. The others picked traditional Chinese dishes...orange beef, generals chicken and PuPu platter. The PuPu platter was the most disappointing. I would stay away from that. Most everything on there was tough, chewy or over fried. My guess is it had been double cooked. The other traditional Chinese dishes (orange beef and generals chicken) were quite good. I like the complimentary pot of hot tea...so many Asian fusion restaurants charge for this. Also our waiter was personable and accommodating. I wanted to give more stars bc I would like to see this local place be successful so hopefully next time (and I will try again) I can do just that. read more

I've eaten here a few times and have never been too crazy about it, it's passable Chinese food with below par sushi. It was just good enough to warrant a call every now and again......until last night. I hate to write a bad review in these trying times for restaurants but I can't let this pass. We ordered General tsos chicken, fried dumplings and some sushi. The dumplings, which I've had here before, were about half the size they regularly are and the meat stuffing had the consistency and flavor of cat food. The General Tsos chicken was so overcooked and dry that we could barely swallow it. The sushi didn't taste fresh and my wife hasn't left the toilet all morning. In an earlier review, I gave Joy chalet five stars. They still deserve five stars because the food is absolutely excellent. However the last two times we were there, we had the same server, and he made our meal very unenjoyable.. I should add that we were the only customers in The restaurant, so it's not as if he was overburdened. He just wasn't that interested and appeared not to want to be there. On two occasions when we made a simple request to him, he walked away shaking his head. I have never before seen a server do that. He obviously had a chip on his shoulder that we had nothing to do with. We go quite often to local restaurants but I have never seen this happen before: when he presented the check he said "so how was my service?" I also have never seen a server do this: pick up the signed check to see how much of a tip we were giving, even though we were still sitting at the table. A month ago, we had a wonderful server named Katie. She went above and beyond. She was friendly, personable, and made us feel very comfortable. She packaged our leftovers without us asking, she brought us a cut up orange, and just added so much to our overall dining experience. Last night's server did nothing extra, except check his tip. I don't know when, or if, we'll be going back. Maybe just get takeout. read more

I would give this no stars if I could. We have been going there and ordering from them since they opened but we will not be going back. We ordered appetizers, California rolls and an entree. Unfortunately the California rolls smelled so fishy we threw them away. There was clearly something wrong with them. I called the restaurant and told them but he said the crabmeat inside may have a fish smell. This is not the first time we have had California rolls from them and from other places and there was an extraordinarily strong fishy smell even when I first opened the bag they came in. It did not smell like something anyone would want to eat. He pretty much said we should not have thrown them away. I guess we are supposed to bring them back (on a delivery order) or I am not sure what; keep them in my refrigerator to smell up my house until they could be returned? Either way we will not be going back and I suggest you avoid this place as well. At the very least do not order any sushi! read more

Went here for my mother's 50th birthday party, the food was delicious. I personally tried the Crystal Shrimp Dumplings, Crab Meat Cheese Fried Wontons, Pink Lady Roll, Banana Roll, Lobster Roll, Ikura Sushi, Inari Sushi, and Taro Bubble Milk tea. My favorites have to be the Crab Meat Cheese Fried Wontons and Pink Lady Roll. The Taro bubble milk tea tasted wonderful, almost like cookies and cream, and the boba was mango flavored with a star shape. We even got to meet the chef, who was very polite and seemed to be very intelligent. The staff were also very pleasant, and our food was served quickly. Overall a great experience, I'll probably come here every weekend since I live so close by. I hope the business owners find success, they truly deserve it. read more

Recently had a very nice meal at Joy Chalet. The Peking duck was very crispy and had a nice flavor. The food here is close to what you would get in China town without the long drive. The chef came over to us at the end of the meal and was very nice and welcoming and told us all about his cooking and gave us some recommendations for another visit. The staff was even patient and kind to my toddler, and we know how toddlers can be in a restaurant. I would absolutely go back and try some of their more traditional Chinese dishes.
