Came here for a basic spa pedicure first thing in the morning, one other customer was there getting a manicure. The lady who did my pedicure was friendly. Probably the fastest pedicure I have ever had in my life. Each element of the pedicure lasted one minute or so, and suddenly my nails were getting painted! The massage was so quick, that while she was painting my nails, I thought to myself "wait, did she forget the leg massage?" My nails look nice and I hope they last. Overall, felt very rushed compared to other salons, so I likely will not return since I consider this a treat to myself that I only do a few times a year. read more

Really love this place! They're in Noe Valley, so expect it to be pretty crowded and busy especially during the weekends. Salon has two manicure stations but plenty of chairs with big, natural light. I always get gel when I come, and it's the only place I've found that goes really light on coats so you don't get the thick, chunky, fake appearance you would at some other places. I normally don't write reviews, but I wanted to share a poor experience and warn others of this business. First, my appointment was at 5:30, but the business did not honor my appointment time and I had to wait an extra 30 mins just to get my appointment started. Once the manicurist started on my hand, they cut too deep into my cuticle and I started bleeding (see photo attached that was taken as soon as I walked out of the appointment). The manicurist noticed their mistake and just said a quick "sorry" before continuing. She was not apologetic and did not acknowledge this mistake further, despite the continuous bleeding. The rest of the appointment was super rushed, with other employees brushing nails clippings around me, taking out trash and rushing out other customers around 6:30. Overall, this was not a relaxing experience and I was very worried about getting an infection from the cut. I would save your money and recommend other spots in the city instead. read more

Came here for the combo gel mani/pedi today and it was great! They have a large selection of nail polish for you to choose from. Each chair in the pedi section is separated by a plexiglass barrier so it felt fairly safe. Massage chairs are new and really comfortable too. I came home and noticed my gel polish was already separating from my nail on two fingers so I called them and they told me to return so they can fix it. However last Friday wasn't great. I understand an employee called in sick and it was very busy - the first day open after the renovation. I was staying in the area near this place, and was excited when I called to make an appointment and they said the shop was empty so I could come right the. In sum, I would not recommend getting a manicure there but the pedicure I received was great. The pedicure and the pedicurist were great. Professional, polite, and well done. The manicurist on the other hand was incredibly rough and really disappointing. I had dip polish on my hands which was $15 to remove, which was higher than I usually pay for removal but not a problem. The manicurist seemed really rushed. She used a harsh drill to remove the dip before soaking the polish off. The drill was so harsh and she was moving so fast that she nicked my skin twice and caused an open cut in my nail bed which still hurts 2 days later. She didn't do or say anything and kept going. She then used a scraper to remove the rest but moved so fast she jammed my cuticles repeatedly. The drill was also so harsh that she broke one of my nails while removing the polish. To fix the break, she glued my nail and put dip powder on it which made it look bumpy and sloppy under the polish. I asked her not to cut my cuticles because she cut me minutes prior but she did it anyway. I would definitely return for a pedicure but would get a manicure elsewhere. read more

Had a walk in appointment for 2 gel removal and gel nails. Going into nail salons my expectations are very low until proven differently. I don't usually speak out about any concerns (like over cut cuticles, extensive nail filing, oddly shapes nails, bubbles, lints, thickness, unevenness, etc) because as manicurists providing a service to clients if something is wrong they should have been trained to look out for these errors and know to correct it when it happens (or even one step back, to prevent these mistakes from happening) instead of leaving it alone and letting a client leave with a mess. This would be called integrity. The shop is very well lit with a large tv hanging on the wall. The decor and aesthetics of the store is white with tan pedicure chairs and small hanging crystal chandeliers. My manicurist removed my gel nails by soaking acetone on cotton balls and wrapping it in foil and then taking what looked like a pimple remover and scraping my nails. It hurt a little but it was bearable. We soaked my nails in some lemon water and then she began to cut my cuticles very nicely which i do appreciate but the shaping and painting of my nails was very uneven. With the paint job, she missed some spots on some and on others, painted a little on my skin which hardened when it went under the uv lamp. The paint is not opaque enough but she rushed to put on the gel top coat which in turn made some nails come out very lumpy and uneven. I'll admit that my nails turned out better than my friend's, who also got her nails done there. Hers came out with lumpy thick uneven nails. Her manicurist used two uv lights and from what I saw, she seemed like she was in a rush. My friend asked for a third coat because her nail polish wasn't opaque enough & in the end her nails looked super thick. I know many salons who use 4-5 layers and it doesn't come out thick. At the end of her session, my friend noticed unevenness and a bulge in her polish when she pointed it out the the manicurist the manicurist said "it's because you want 3 layers" blaming it on my friend. I got a Brazilian (wax strips) and it was surprisingly painless, well I don't think this could be completely painless but you understand where I'm coming from. I've never had my nails done since COVID and I chose this place through yelp- because of the provided pictures and reviews by two users. Due to low reviews I still went and tried this place. The people that works here are very nice and respectful, in a sense that we haven't even heard them talking from each other so loud. (Which is usually the case in other nail salons). Each of us are helped by two people, it's because it was very slow on the weekend, which Louie "not sure if I spelled correctly" said that they are so slow on weekend. Weekdays they are busy. These ladies are so patient. I was trying to choose a color for centuries it felt and they never pushed me or tried to hurry me. I really loved that. The only reason I have to -1 star is because she cut some of my skin, it started to bleed and when I noticed and told her, she said she'll fix it later and didn't say sorry. I feel like this does happen often to me, because of my nails, but would have liked a sorry or some acknowledgement because I had to point it out. Worst nail service of my life. I have come here for the last few months and have usually been just satisfied, but my last visit was horrendous enough to change my entire opinion. My nails were always done by the same person (in the afternoon), but this time was done by another person (in the morning). This nail tech was rude, and so aggressive on my nails, I was flinching in pain the entire time. It seems they were rushing through the entire thing. They did not let my nails sit in the wraps (I had gel) for enough time, and were painfully scraping the gel off my nails just to get it off. When using the gel lamp, the nail tech would just pull the lamp away before the timed light was finished, while my hand was still in there! I had some bruising on one of my nails and they were not gentle or sensitive to it at all either. It was the worst nail service of my life. I still tipped, and the nail tech was still rude accepting my money. The only reason I'm giving it two stars is because the few times I had gone before were alright. Joy Joy Nails consistently does a fantastic job on my nails. The salon is clean, the nail technicians are sweet, their mani pedis are flawless, and they're quick. I always make the mistake of getting my nails done for big events (mainly weddings) in the city they take place rather than just getting them done at my normal nail salon, but never again. Next event I am just going to Joy Joy for my gels. Once I went in and got gels with a neon tip but my nails were long and chipped a couple days later, so I went back and they fixed me right up. They also always have British Baking Show on their TV which is somehow calming. Would recommend Joy Joy to anyone in need of a nail day. read more

I had beaten my nails up pretty hard while packing/moving and traveling, but they really did a fantastic job cleaning everything up and making me feel put together again. I'm giving 2 stars because the lady who did my pedicure deserves an award. However the rest of the experience was terrible. I waited 45mins for a mani pedi. I would've just left if she told the correct wait time. The woman doing the manicure only started on me at the time she did because I expressed how I had been waiting for a long time and it wasn't fair to work on the person without an appointment who came in after me. It hasn't even been a week yet and my white nails are turning colors. Mind you I don't wear make up and the nails are turning a reddish brown. I wanted to get my nails done before an important meeting and decided at the last minute to stop in here instead of my usual spot. I ended up having to wear bandaids during my presentation as multiple fingers were scabbing. They used a nail file on my cuticles and one of my fingers started bleeding during the manicure. Came to Joy Joy for the first time today for a gel manicure and regular pedicure. This is definitely one of the best mani/pedis I've ever had! Both technicians were super diligent and really took their time. When she got started on my fingers she realized the color was a lot lighter than it looked so instead of continuing, she asked if I liked it and when I told her I didn't, she took it off and found my a new color. After my experience, I'm very surprised at the rave reviews. While the salon itself is nice, the quality of service and the skill of the manicurists (at least mine) was lacking. For starters, I wanted a gel manicure and regular pedicure. I was told that my first two choices of gel were not available in the regular color. Okay, no big deal. I chose a third color, and was assured that they had the regular color available as well. Only when I got out of the salon and saw my fingernails and toenails in the natural light did I realize that the colors, while close, did not match. I called them to tell them, more as an FYI since I did not have another hour and a half to spare to get my nails redone. Now, less than a week later, my gel manicure is chipping like it's regular polish. This has NEVER happened to me before and I've gotten gel manicures consistently for the past several years (minus during the first part of the pandemic).
