Ordered food to go and that took 30 min to late. Then upon opening the food, 4-5 small pieces of beef were covering 5 pieces of one with less than a nibble on them. Never had bad food at any other location. I never wrote bad reviews, but this was gross and obviously they didn't care. read more

Kinda mid for teriyaki on the east side. The menu is decent tho and even if it's a busy time of day the wait time is impressive. Flavor wise it would be a 3 but with service, availability and consistency it gets 4. Also, pretty clean from what I can tell. read more

Their food is delicious, their customer service sucks. I grabbed a Styrofoam cup and poured some sauce in it and he scolded me because the cup is for tea. He sells little containers for the togo boxes for $.25each. I said if I eat here it's free correct. Then he said if I want sauce I can buy it or pour it on my food. This is one of the meet teriyaki restaurants opened in Gresham. It is a chain and I have visited several of the different locations in and around the PDX area. The food here is good and moderately priced for teriyaki. My family and I have came to this location at least 3-4 times. The food is fresh tasting and service verbally fast. It does have a small family owned appeal once you are inside. The restaurant is clean and has an Asian feel to it. We have tried most of the items on the menu and found them to be good. The portions are pretty big and flavorful. We will continue to come here. read more

Unbelievably delicious and gracious --I don't know why around Portland and the suburbs, quality of food places is quite sparse. The way it's made and the way we are treated have left me extremely desirous of how it used to feel in other states to be a patron of restaurants and kitchens. Every place here charges like they are the bomb, but the taste and flavor and HEART of bomb food has been overwhelmingly lacking in my oregon dining experiences. I finally try out Joy near an area I work quite frequently. The simple literal joy of the teriyaki rice bowl is 100% perfect and a blessing upon my soul, thank you, thank you with the immenseness of two years of searching these neighborhoods for such goodness that is this rare. I'll be back at least several times a month, or weekly if the budget holds up. read more

Bang for buck on this review! I am in this shopping center 4 or 5 days a week for my son's TaeKwonDo activities, most days we don't have time to make it home to get a home cooked meal. I rely on healthy togo food for these days. The only two spots are Joy and Chuy's Mexican food. Both are great options, but I get side tracked here. I first started to love Joy teriyaki over off 181st when servicing the safeway there. They give free tea and soup, and their chicken bowls are under 6 bucks.. So an App, Entrée, and Hot Drink for 6 bucks, Flip Yeah! Here FYI they do not have the free soup, only the tea. I personally get each boy a bowl, one with rice, and the other with vegetables under the chicken. Just limit the bad stuff by going light on the sauce and you have a great, healthy meal, on the go, for a great price. Place is always clean, they service is always fast and friendly, and always reliable with the quality. I have tried chicken, pork, and the white meat chicken, but tend to just go with the dark meat chicken, though that is not typical for me. The fat renders nicely and the taste just seems richer. PRO TIP: Sub veggies for rice if you want more balance read more

Joy Teriyaki must have a "teriyaki empire" in the Portland area because I see their locations all over the place. I've been to a couple of their locations before, and tonight I stopped in at their location at the Gresham Town Fair shopping center. I ordered Chicken Breast Teriyaki with no rice, just all salad instead (I was trying for a lean, low carb dinner). My meal was really good. . .the lettuce in the salad was chilled and crispy (not limp), and the chicken was tender and nicely grilled. I always like seeing dark grill marks on teriyaki chicken. Their dining room was neat, tidy, and spotlessly clean. The things that matter about a teriyaki place. . .such as well prepared food, fair price, efficient service, and cleanliness. . .are all good at this Joy Teriyaki. read more

I love this place. Love the tempura veg, the chicken bowls, and the Mongolian beef. I have a hard time venturing away from my favorites sometimes because they're so good, but I've been here many times and pretty much always happy with my order. Also something kinda dumb, but I like the pictures on the menu for when my brain is fried from a long day or a lot to do, and I can't make up my mind if I'm gonna try something new. Decent fast food teriyaki, nothing at all special or noteworthy. I came in for a quick bite to go while heading to hubbys job. I ordered a chicken bowl to go, it was out and ready in 30 seconds. Clearly not fresh or even close to made to order, which is lame. I didnt expect much but still... no one like chicken thats been sitting out. I grabbed my bag and felt around for a fork, nope, no fork. So i ask the man (manager/owner?) for a fork. He says its in the napkin. So i sit the bag down and look inside (without untying it). Nope, no fork. I start towards him again asking for a fork and again he tells me, Its in the napkin. Frustrated i ear open the bag in front of him and take out all contents. Nope, no fork and no napkin, NOW all of a sudden he seems to care and rushes back to grab me a napkin and fork. Are they really that tight on funds that they couldnt have just spared the fork the first or at least second time i asked? Oh well. Went to the car to eat. Cold chicken, hot sticky rice. (Dirty). Solid chicken teriyaki. Flavor is good, portions are off. You get a lot of chicken and literally two ice cream scoops of rice. The salad comes on the side with a strange dressing in a small container. Which I'm glad they do because it smelled horrible and was thick, so i just used dressing i had in the fridge. I bought two chicken teriyaki's and a side rice for under $20. Not bad for a day you dont have time cook. Quick note: not sure if the middle age woman taking orders is there all the time but she has a super strong accent. I prayed she got my order right since i couldn't understand her at all. read more

This particular Joy Teriyaki is the first I've ever been to. Hopefully it's a shining example of their other restaurants. Once you walk in, it's as if your walking into some little tucked away Japanese restaurant located in downtown Tokyo. It atmosphere is almost over killed by the wood tables, walls, and chairs. Almost. It only serves to add to the look and feel of an authentic Japanese restaurant. The experience doesn't just stop there with this little gem, tucked away at a strip mall in Gresham, OR. The staff here are incredibly friendly. Even when I butchered their menu with my horrific pronunciation of the Bul Go Gi bowl that I ordered. And yes I know bul go gi is Korean. I digress... The best mini restaurant with great food, family and welcoming atmosphere. Cooks are ready for you as soon as you walk in. For my lunch I always go there and I love beef with steamed veggies. Last minute decision called my order in twenty minutes before closing. I am so glad i made it. We got chicken breast teriyaki sideorder of beef teriyaki it was so good. And ieven like the Pot stckers which irarely like anywhere. The portions are big and has plrnty of sauce in it. The service was great. Before the Covid we went here to eat all the time! During lockdown we continued to order delivery... until yesterday when grub hub delivered our food to the wrong house & due to Covid we didn't ask them for it back! We called joy teriyaki to let them know we had not received our food & omg the man yelled at me and said " I don't give a fuck" at this point I hung up on them and went back to the delivery person who was trying to get in touch with her ppl to see how we could get our money back! I finally was able to call the delivery service & had a great out come! We're told to give our " local" businesses our business and we truly believe in that but we will no longer be GIVING IT TO " JOY" teriyaki at Eastman parkway! I'm giving this place two stars because, the problem itself was not with the food. I never have any issues with anybody here but there's a cashier who's name he said is Juang he hung up on me while taking my order. When I called him out on it he said he couldn't hear me again last time I had an issue he forgot my salad he wanted to write my name and get me a free meal. I'm not looking for free food I have money to pay for it. Hopefully the owners read this! I love this place but this guy needs someone to talk to him about his behavior. read more

The chicken teriyaki brought me great joy. Gyoza was so-so, but came with the teriyaki lunch special for only $6.75. I filled up and took some home. The teriyaki chicken itself was smoky and tender. Probably some of the best teriyaki I've ever had. On my plate was also two balls of rice and a salad with some kind of creamy, tangy dressing. I don't love iceberg lettuce, so the salad was not a highlight, but the rice was the right consistency. My friend got the chicken curry rice and I tasted it. Great flavor but it had peas, corn and carrots which I don't think I would have liked. Overall great flavors, solid portions and good prices. read more
