At first glance, the restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside. It's an older building, and you might not expect anything special. But the moment you walk through the door, you're greeted with a warm welcome. The inside is filled with personality, family, and culture, from the decor to the photos of loved ones on the walls. I had never tried Costa Rican food before, so I went in with fairly low expectations. That changed with my very first bite. What looked like a simple plate of beans and rice turned out to be so much more. The food tasted like something made in a grandmother's kitchen, prepared with years of love, care, and tradition. The dishes are simple, fresh, and incredibly comforting, yet somehow addictive. You may find yourself eating well past the point of being full! Overall, dining here feels less like eating at a restaurant and more like being welcomed into someone's home. The food is made from the heart, and it shows. I was excited when this building was finally occupied, and by a regional cuisine we don't have much of around these parts. tl/dr: Good, solid, comfort food without some of the niceties some folks have come to expect from more generic Central American restaurants. Will be back again and again for wonderful food and outstanding service! The-woman-who-lets-me-live-with-her (thanks Mike) and I hadn't been out to eat in a while. Since the pandemic, we order in more often. I was tired of cooking so I asked if she'd like to try the new Costa Rican place in town. We were there around 30 minutes before closing, prepared to do the polite thing and take our meal back home but we were urged by the owner to sit and enjoy ourselves. We ordered the ceviche because we are aficionados of the citrus-cooked fish and since this was actually going to be fish and not shrimp, we were excited to try. They do not poach the fish in advance (which speaks to the confidence they have in their method and ingredients) preferring to let the citrus "broth" do the trick. The result is amazingly tender fish in a oniony, herbaceous, lime juice cocktail. Since they don't pre-cook the fish, they don't have to make it seem like they've marinated it a long time, so the citrus is more subtle that most of us are used to. It was wonderful, served with chips and the three salsas mentioned in other reviews. I stuck to what appeared to be a habanero salsa, but there was a rich green salsa and a bright red one also. A little dab of habanero on top of a spoonful of fish and onion and tomato, poised atop a chip, is a wonderful thing to shovel, one after another, into your mouth! My lovely spouse had the Chifrijo, a bowl of white rice, beans, cubed pork, a generous knob of avocado, pico de gallo, and chips. Every element was wonderful, though we may ask if we can sub in tortillas for the chips next time, as a personal preference. Since this place is the reincarnation of the rotisserie chicken place that was once across the street, I knew that the chick would be delicious, and it was! Jorge (the owner), retrieved a chicken and went at it with the shears and brought a beautifully prepared, flavorful, thigh and leg because we asked for dark meat. With tortillas, its another assembly project. Escabeche, chicken, a dab of salsa in a warm tortilla? Outstanding! The beans were clearly in a big sack-o-beans in the very recent past, and cooked on site. You can taste the same kind of attention to detail in everything; homemade, perfectly executed, and delicious. Very happy to have a new spot to recommend and visit again and again! read more

First time trying Las Brasas and I'll definitely be back. It's a family run Costa Rican spot in Gresham. Service moves at a relaxed pace, which honestly adds to the cozy, laid-back casual vibe and gives you time to enjoy the experience. The restaurant is clean and comfortable, and the staff is attentive and friendly. The food is AMAZING like the rotisserie chicken was juicy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The rice and beans were simple but done really well. I've never dipped plantains in sour cream before but hey! It was good! DO NOT skip the spicy stuff they give on the side, they really elevate the meal. Overall, a great local gem with authentic flavors and a welcoming atmosphere. Not a chain- local mom and pop. Found a wonderful little place that feels like grandma's house in another county. Ambiance is warm. Food is fantastic and feels good! Great service. Bonus- they have the World Cup on their big TV (not too loud) and my husband and mom loved it! As of June 2026 you can feed your whole family with their Family Rotisserie Chicken Dinner, comes with rice, black beans, carrots/onions, soft corn tortillas, pico de gallo, salsa, hot sauce, chimichurri, and 4 drinks, for $55 (plus tip)!!!! The food is excellent. The owners are very friendly and accommodating. They will modify the entrees to meet special dietary needs. The restaurant is spotless. We have already eaten there 4 times and have taken family members and friends. Everyone has been equally as happy with their meals! So glad to find my favorite roasted chicken is back. What a great Costa Rican restaurant and a beautiful family. They've only been open for under a month in this location. We arrived a little before closing time, but they greeted us warmly and welcomed us to choose a table. The menu was vast and impressive. We started with chips and salsa (pico de gallo). The pico was fresh and homemade, like just about everything else on the menu. My wife had a bowl with delicious cubed pork which she really enjoyed. I had roasted chicken, which was amazing. It was served with 3 sauces, which were all great, but none better than the chimichurri. The carrots and onions were sublime. Everything was so good and fresh. We will be back soon and often.
