When I came here, I was hoping to grab just a quick bite and it's a decent stop. Walking into the joint, there's so much decor and it somewhat transports you to a cozy, beautiful Japanese spot. The service was quick and very sweet. For those two alone, I thought it was exceptional. The food however, left a lot to be desired. I ordered sake and toro nigiri, an Oregon roll, and takoyaki. I was super excited for the takoyaki so when I was greeted with bonito-less, scarce sauce, and a lackluster plate, I was disappointed. The takoyaki ball itself was alright, but without its complements it doesn't offer much. I've never been to a place that does their takoyaki like this. On the other hand, their rolls were standard. Presentation was okay, and quality was also alright. The thing to note is that whenever ordering nigiri (at least when I went), they didn't have a lot of the options they listed on the menu which was a bit frustrating. Came here thinking it was Motto Motto - Revolving Sushi Bar but decided to sit down and try this place anyways. Service was polite and the restaurant was fairly tidy and inviting. The tempura appetizer was pretty good except for the sweet potato. It was a bit undercooked and crunchy. For the price and amount, I thought it was not worth the value. The nigiris had thin yet long cuts of fish. Decent fish freshness and quality but also quite pricey for the nigiri. The house special roll was also decent but the nori they used to make the roll was a little tough and chewy. All the food came at a slow pace even though there was only one group of 2 people at the restaurant when we arrived. For conveyor belt sushi this is pretty good. A little bit more on the pricier side but good quality sushi. There's many options to choose from the conveyer belt or you can order what you want from their menu. Once you make an order a little train delivers the order directly to you. I got a bunch of things but I really enjoyed their takoyaki, it was piping hot. The unagi and seared salmon was good as well as other rolls they had. On a positive note, the waitress was amazing. Very attentive, and very friendly. I couldn't ask for more. Unfortunately, the food absolutely sucked! I normally don't use such terms to describe my meal, but this was not only over priced, it was just horrible. Everything felt expired. I actually spit out the shrimp on my shrimp nigiri. Nothing tasted fresh. No smooth, buttery texture. Even the seaweed salad and cabbage salad was not up to the standards of many sushi restaurants. The hot green tea was not hot. Nothing was good. Wish I could give 2.5 stars because they do have good miso soup and good tempura appetizers. Sadly, all of the sushi is bad. Mostly mushy rice and the fish is shaved super thin. When you take a bite of your sushi roll, all you taste is rice. Also, I gave the poki bowl a chance, $20 for mostly rice, a very small portion of fish, some sad wilted cabbage and NO avocado! Friendly staff and very clean. Appreciate a sit down establishment with a sushi bar and not "conveyer belt" sushi, which seems to frequent Portland. My favorite was the agedashi tofu, which I try at every Jap restaurant as a staple and they make it right here. These are the pluses for me here. The downsides: it's way too quiet inside and the commercial space echoes all the noises. Suggest they play music? My biggest complaint is the fish. We ordered the large sashimi plate and most of the fish had the previously frozen taste. It also wasn't cut correctly. There's an art to cutting fish and even on a separate tataki plate we ordered, the slices appeared ripped not cut. Really didn't like the siracha on the tataki fish plate. read more

We tried this place yesterday and are not impressed. The train that delivers the food is what brought us in, but the sushi and service definitely made us want to leave. The waiters were not friendly and seemed annoyed when we'd ask for basic necessities ie to order food, sauce plates for wasabi and ginger. There's a QR code to order and look at the menu but doesn't work, so you need to waive down a waiter to place an order. The sushi is nothing special and overpriced. Two pieces of skinny seared salmon is almost $5. The rolls are very small. They taste fresh, but I don't think the $40 tab for 2 people that honestly were not that full was worth it. read more

This place should be renamed Sushi Slow Mo. we live nearby and have been wanting to try this place. First time we came by they saw us and went to the back room but didn't come back out. We waited there for a solid 3 minutes and said alright let's try someplace else. No other customers were in the place. The second time we came by they seated us. We waited even longer than the first time. No water, no anything. Kept waiting so we said we don't have the time to wait if they are going to be this slow. Again, not a single customer in the place. Why we tried a third time I don't know but we decided to give it one more try. My husband arrived before me. The Chef came out and gave my husband a menu to look over while waiting for me. I arrive a couple of minutes later. There is one other couple in the restaurant. We're waiting, and waiting ... and waiting. We can hear them talking in the back. I asked my husband have they come back out between the time you were given a menu and now? He said they had not. We waited five minutes and said alright we're done trying with this place. I like going to Divine for frozen yogurt, so when I saw this new establishment finally open for business, I went to try it out for the first time with my friend. We came around 7:00PM, and it was busy for dinner time. It was comforting to see this because it must mean the food is good, right? We were seated at the bar, which was nicely decorated with blue Ikea LED lights around the beer, wine and sake bottles. The menu was fairly straightforward, with sushi roll creations (with pictures), bento box combinations, rice bowls, noodle bowls and their family dinner combinations. We decided to take a closer look at their family dinner combinations as it was noted that "each person gets a miso soup and salad" and the combination choices ranged from $15-$40. We decided to go with the $35 combo, with a picture that depicted quite a feast. When our miso soup and salad came, we were surprised that only ONE person gets the miso soup and salad. We pointed out that sentence about "each person gets a miso soup and salad" to our clueless waitress but she said that it meant that "the other person can order an extra miso soup and salad". WTF? So why even put that on your damn menu about each person getting a soup and salad (if ordering off the family combination selections)?! I'm not crazy about miso soup and salad, but it's about being consistent with what is SAID on your menu! There was an awkward 30 minute delay between getting the miso soup and salad (which by the way is just iceberg lettuce cut up in small pieces sprinkled with thousand island sauce) and our first plate of hot food from the family combination. It seemed that everyone else around us were also waiting for their food as well (which is probably why the place looked busy...everyone was waiting for their food!). The first plate of hot food was the beef ribs (galbi) and tonkatsu (bread fried pork) on the same plate. We thought it was weird that they didn't bring out the rice at the same time, as the menu said it included rice. We decided to just give them the benefit of the doubt and just wait. The second plate of our family combo was the sashimi plate. Still no rice, so we asked another clueless waitress (that brought us the food). She said that the sashimi plate concludes our family combo. We asked for her manager and the manager came over. The manager asked if we got our rice and we said no, to which she said she will be "right back with rice". She came back and give us a small rice bowl of rice and proceeded to tell the clueless waitresses that the family combos DID come with rice. So let's break it down. For $35.95, even though it says on menu that EACH person at your table gets a miso soup and salad, you get only ONE soup and salad. You get about 5 pieces of beef ribs, a slab of bread-fried pork, and a plate of sashimi. The taste was mediocre at best. If you are venturing in, don't let the images fool you. If ordering off the family combinations, you will only get half of what you see in the pictures! Oh, and by the time we left, there were still people waiting for their food. I think this place is a new favorite! My waitress was fast, friendly, and didn't rush me (I came here for some quiet time on "Mommy's Night Off"). The miso soup was fantastic and the sushi rolls were beautiful and yummy. The place wasn't overly crowded (I went in at 7:30 on a Friday), but, stayed busy. I sat at a table with my book, but, if you sit at the bar, you can watch the sushi chef make all the orders. If you have someone with you who doesn't like sushi, they'll still be happy! They serve bento boxes and have several cooked options including teriyaki chicken and kids' meals. This is one of the better quality sushi/bento places in the area. The rating suffers a little bit due to the service and the ridiculous amount of plastic they use when you do take away. The sushi, shrimp tempura and the gyoza are or go to dishes to get here. My favorite happens to be the beef bugogi entree, where they serve you a mountain of meat with a side of rice. Be prepared to ask for extra rice and to either share or take some food home. (Side note: a lot of these places seem to serve both Japanese and Korean food. Before anyone brings it up, yes I know bugogi is Korean) All that being said, don't attempt to come here if you're in a hurry. It feels very understaffed and the lady (whom I presume to be the owner) seems to be doing 3 things at once at all times. It sometimes takes over 30 minutes from ordering to receiving your food. Again I'm thinking staffing might be a problem. Lastly, because I'm a basic environmentalist hippie, ordering take away makes me cry a little bit on the inside. Everything is in styrofoam boxes, the sauces are all in little plastic containers, you get a handful of soy sauce and plastic utensils and it's all bagged (sometimes double bagged) with plastic. I don't know how to avoid getting all this plastic aside from just not doing takeaway all together. But yeah, if they can fix the staffing and be a little more "woke" when it comes to being eco friendly, I will gladly award an extra star. read more
