Really excellent hole in the wall sushi place with very warm and attentive service. I saw lots of folks coming in picking up their take-out. Looks like they have a steady stream of regulars. Don't sleep on this place--it's decent sushi and a great meal after some shopping or running errands nearby at the mall. Their specialty are rolls. They offer 50 different rolls inspired by the 50 states of the U.S. We got the Utah, Alaska, spicy salmon roll, yellowtail hand roll and the spicy salmon hand roll. All were perfect portions and the yellowtail hand roll is relatively unique compared to offerings among the Clackamas sushi scene. Fish was fresh and the wasabi high quality. read more

Went today for dinner and it was very good. Walked in and got seated right away. They had a sushi menu already on the table with the description on them. I will say the prices went up. I saw a review I think from a month ago and the prices were not the same. Still not terrible pricing for what you get. We got the Colorado, Idaho, Wyoming and New Jersey roll as well as the kids bento box. We didn't have to wait too long for the food to come out. The sushi rolls were delicious. They did have more rice than other places but they were still tasty. I was very impressed by the kids bento box. It was $13.50 and came with yakisoba noodles, 4 piece California roll, rice, cucumber salad and miso soup! I absolutely love the decorations and atmosphere inside this restaurant. It's very calming. The best part was they had a play area in the front so my toddler could be entertained while the adults. Overall if this place was closer, it would be our go to sushi spot! read more

By far the best! Went to Tokyo and enjoyed the sushi but couldnt wait to get back! State rolls and specials and they have brown rice that actually still tastes like sushi! Mmm,mmm,mmm! I love this place. The nigiri is so fresh. I ordered the yellowtail, the salmon and sometimes the albacore. Today I tried a handball (spicy tuna) and it was fresh and delicious too. Their Bento box is great and plentiful. Large menu with rolls from many states. The wonderful serving staff is fast, friendly and so polite. Can you tell I'm a huge fan?!? read more

Had to chance to drop by for lunch and was pleasantly surprised by the selection and quality of their menu. Great meal!! I had the Soft Shell tempura crab, the Wisconsin Roll and some gyoza. Walking in, the restaurant is quite spacious and cozy. There's a lot of cute Japanese decor and it makes the place very inviting and fun. Service was very quick and kind. Considering these two, the place is amazing. The food however, was a bit disappointing. I ordered the sake and toro nigiri, takoyaki, and an Oregon roll. The nigiri was pretty standard, however, I was disappointed in that when ordering, we tried to order a couple other nigiri that were on their menu (ie. ika, uni, amaebi) but they didn't have any of it in store. To not have 1-2 items is fine, but if every other item I'm inquiring about is out of stock, it's frustrating. The Oregon roll however was pretty good. The item I was most disappointed about was the takoyaki. When it arrived, there was no bonito flakes, little sauce, and overall, it was very lackluster. So while it's very cute inside and the service was nice, the food doesn't offer anything special and I most likely won't be coming back. read more

Came here to try new things and the other reviews confirmed that it's a wonderful place to try! Came here around 5-6pm pretty quite not many people when we arrived very pretty decor and not too loud music at all so you can keep a pretty casual atmosphere here. Ordered two classics of the cucumber and Cali rolls both portions were beyond normal maybe a half size bigger than average places? Also tried two state rolls of the Oklahoma and Montana, both very filling had a unique taste compared to other locations as well as bigger than I imagined it would be. Oklahoma had the "seafood dynamite" on top of Cali rolls and it was served warm, if you like a balance of seafood flavor I'd recommend to try this one (does have a umami flavor if you're a fan) and the Montana had a variety of fish inside that was held together pretty good! In total spent $44.15 for two people and honestly I'd come back here again the portions and price spoke for themselves. Staff and chef were beyond nice and catering to our needs. read more

Food (3/5): We ordered the Oregon Roll, Nevada Roll, Bento Box with Bulgogi and California roll, and Bulgogi dish. Overall the dishes are alright but some improvements to be made are that: the miso is very salty, the rice on the sushi is mushy and sticks to the pieces, and bulgogi was overcooked. However, none of it was really bad it just wasn't great and didn't taste like authentic Japanese food. Venue (4/5): The venue was spacious with lots of seating, Japanese decorations and overall looked nice. Some parts like the floor and bathroom needed maintenance, e.g. noticeable cracks and bathroom wasn't stocked with paper towels. Service (3/5): Friendly person but may have been overworked or understaffed since the service was slow and requests like refills took a while. read more

Have been coming here for years! Everything still tastes the same. Husband thinks that for sashimi, this place hands down is the best on his opinion. Service can be on the slower side, as they mostly have 1 server. So if you're trying to dine in and out, I would skip and order Togo ahead. The place is smaller, decently clean. Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon. This is one of my favorite sushi places. The state rolls are unique. We ordered the Nevada with crab. This comes out hot served on a board. First time here and it was solid. It's a small, but cutely decorated, space. Service was great and very friendly. I really liked how they had a vegetarian combo! (Not sure if the miso is veggie though; it may have fish in it.) everything tasted fresh and came out quickly. The prices are reasonable too -- $51 before tip with tea, an appetizer, a combo, a roll, and soup. My husband's only complaint was the miso ramen wasn't the greatest. He said it was good but it didn't have the expected corn, seaweed, and fish cake -- it also didn't have a protein option. Where most ramen traditionally have pork, this only had chicken. It had a lot of noodles though and the broth was good. Overall, I'll come here again and will try their other offerings soon! read more

Sushi Maki was the best decision I could have ever made today for my work break. I was in the mood for seafood but I also wanted meat, I couldn't decide and that's why I chose this place primarily for their versatile Bento Box For my Bento Box options, I chose Tonkatsu (Japanese deep fried pork) from list A and I chose Sushi (3 pieces of nigiri) from list B. The pieces of nigiri I chose were Tuna, Salmon and Yellowtail. The Bento Box comes with rice, salad and miso soup. The Tonkatsu was so pleasing because of the texture. The light crispiness of the breaded pork loin was irresistible and made me eager for the next bite! The fish was fresh and delicious. It did not disappoint. Their wasabi is really good as well. I found that my sinuses cleared up after eating a good portion of it with my meal. The miso soup was warm and with soothing saltiness. I called to go and when I arrived it was practically done. There is no dine in option currently and they have enforced social distancing quite well. read more

I have driven past this place countless times but after a quick search on yelp, I decided To give this place a try. Decor is currently decorated for Xmas. This place is cute and quaint. It's got a lot going on but it works. I feel like I'm in a Xmas movie and it's Xmas night and there's snow everywhere and this is the only restaurant open and I'm going to meet the love of my life between bites of California rolls... ok.. maybe not but you get the point, it's picturesque not in an instagram aesthetic type of way, but more of a familiar and comforting kinda way. I truly don't understand how this place has such a good rating. The people running it were friendly enough and the inside was nice and spacious. The food was not good though, at all. We got a green salad, teriyaki chicken a La carte and a Texas roll. The salad had an odd ginger dressing I didn't care for, but worse than that was the random pieces of lettuce that had gone bad so every other bite would tasty earthy and gross. The teriyaki chicken was clearly cooked ahead of time and reheated. It had a rubbery consistency and was super thin and flavorless. My wife described it perfectly as something you'd buy at a hospital cafeteria. The sushi was ok but overly fishy so much so that we could only stomach half of it before giving up on the whole meal. Service was non-existent and it took 10 minutes before anybody even came to take our order and another 10 after we were done to flag the lady down to get the check and leave. I asked for silverware after she brought food and she brought us two tiny plates instead so I don't know what was going on. read more

Mediocre sushi, used to be better a couple years ago. They've gotten sloppy making it lately, way too much rice. They're much better at the cooked foods and soups. Ramen, udon etc are very good. Friendly service in a funky, cluttered setting. read more

We have been to sushi maki for many years now and we love their state rolls and will be coming back

We ordered takeout...the employees were very nice, but they forgot to include any utensils and since we were traveling, we had to use camping sporks to try to eat it when we arrived to our destination hours later...not the best choice of utensil for sushi. The flavors were good but my veggie rolls had very little veggies in them, and instead, were basically giant balls of rice that I couldn't fit into my mouth in two bites. I'd try it again if I was able to get a higher veggie to rice ratio! read more

TERRIBLE customer service. I placed an order at 6pm on Postmates. It notified me 49 minutes, I get here at 7pm. Not a single person has come up to ask me if I needed any help. There are 6 other people outside just idling not knowing when their order is ready either. The employees stay behind the sushi bar and do not provide any updates to any of the employees. The sushi itself is subpar. Nothing great about it. You can't order spicy salmon on Postmates. And their "spicy" is really just chili oil on the sushi itself. The fish isn't too fresh but also isn't old, definitely not quality fish. I am reluctant to come back ever. read more

Service was okay. Kind of weird. The waitresses were talking about personal things, but that didn't bother me. What bothered me was that I was literally asked 10 times how everything was by every waitress. Thanks for asking, but it was excessive, especially since I was mid-munch every time. Sushi was the closest to what I'd get in Vegas (thus far). The only roll I wasn't in love with was the Missouri roll. I ordered it because it was raw fish with garlic. What's not to love about this match made in heaven? Well, the flavors were odd. They should just make a simple tuna/salmon/garlic roll. I'd go here all the time if they just had garlic tuna. Nevada roll was very good and reminded me of the famous japanese lasagna from Osaka in Vegas. Green mussels were PERFECT. They were the best I've had in Portland. Menu is great with photos of all state rolls, but there's also a photo frame displaying menu items. They have specials with discounts. Also, they have punch cards for the state rolls.
