    Chicken Teriyaki

I asked several times if the chicken teriyaki was served with veggies and the cashier said yes. WHERE THE VEGGIES?? Thanks for the pile of sugar chicken and white rice... THIS is why all of America has diabetes, myself included.

Joy Teriyaki, a local chain took place of the national chain, Taco Time. It's a slight improvement but only just. First, the pricing is higher than your average players of teriyaki (tableside service or otherwise. If you order any rice bowl, expect just your meat of choice on rice- nothing else. If you want a plate with some veggies or a salad, expect to shell out about $8. I had the former, I should have paid the extra $2 for something green. The sauce itself isn't bad but isn't mind blowing either. I would say that you get what you pay for, but I can think of any number of food carts who get you more/better food for less. It's strange that they don't put water cups or silverware out near the soda fountain, you gotta grab those from a random table (they set some, not others), or ask someone at the counter. Just am odd vibe, but it's new so maybe they'll find their groove.

Pictures of the different types of meat they offer and salad dressing sauce!

Tender, melt in your mouth with yummy BBQ sauce + it's in a Banh mi so you get the crispy texture of the fresh baked bread and pickled veggies = perfection! I appreciate fusion food when it's done right! The BBQ pork was also yummy. This one was a more traditional Banh mi flavor and we brought our own hoisin sauce to complement the flavors. What I really like about this place is they have more than just Banh mi. They have momo!! These are Nepali dumplings which are either steamed or pan fried and you can get them loaded with spicy chili sauce and peppers and onions or with other sauces. We got the spicy ones as an add on to the Banh mi. They gave me a small container of spicier sauce that was delicious when used sparingly. Hubby got spring rolls and a soda for a small ad on combo price. Those were freshly fried to perfection and tasty as well. We thought we'd have leftovers but everything was so tasty we ate most of it while talking with the owner who is a really nice guy. Writing this has me craving a return trip!

The banh mis, however, weren't our favorite. I opted for the braised pork belly and my husband had the lemongrass chicken. I do wish they were more transparent with their pricing. The menu on the cart has prices for vegetable ($14), chicken, beef or tofu ($16), and shrimp ($19). Most recent visit I called in to place a to-go order and asked for a side of lao sausage. I was charged $17 for the lao sausage but didn't think much of it until I got home and opened the box and found that there were only two lao sausages in the container - for $17!? I looked on DoorDash and it showed $16.5 for two pieces of lao sausage with steam rice, steamed veggie, and side jeow som. The person that took my order over the phone did ask if I wanted rice with my side of lao sausage and I said no but if you're gonna charge $17 at least include the steamed veggie and side jeow som?? I reached out for clarification and they said he had pushed the wrong button and informed me that their side of lao sausage is $10 and sticky rice was $6 (not sure why they had to add in the price of the sticky rice as I only questioned the lao sausage and they did charge me $6 for the sticky rice). They went on to say that "it's always cheaper when ordered as a meal, but I'll go ahead and refund you the $7" like they were doing me a favor when I was the one that was overcharged.. Also not sure if I believe that he pushed the wrong button because my partner recognized the guy and said that he has been at the cart for awhile and should not be making those kinds of mistakes..

First, if you order only one thing off the ala carte menu, get the French fries. They're amazing. The whole menu offering is also worthy a try - with an emphasis on combining uniquely prepared vegetables with a protein. But for me the French fries are a must not miss dish. Although there is an eclectic mix of cocktails on the menu u, the beer and wine offerings are sparse. I would imagine this is a business decision that is based on the ever growing market challenges of running a restaurant in a competitive environment like Portland with such narrow margins. The service was kind, informative and busy. We had a couple of items slip, like drink reorders, but by the by, our service was very good. The take home, go. Oma's is worth a try and I think it is all the better experience with a group so you can all share a delicious family style meal. One thing, maybe bring your own wine and pay the corkage fee.

Brunch in Portland, Oregon…read more.. After I read reviews about Portland's Chinatown, I searched for a dimsum place outside of Chinatown and found Jade Rabbit I liked the name of the place and saw that they had two kinds of rabbit-shaped dimsum! Another cool thing is that their menu is vegan... that means that I don't have to worry about dairy products that give me pain. We found free street parking about a half a block away and waited for Jade Rabbit to open at 11am. We didn't have reservations, but we're seated immediately. The decor was great! I enjoyed looking at all of the Rabbit figurines! The furniture was colorful and the convenient restroom had interesting decorations, too! The service was okay. Some items were not available and our server recited the list that included chow funn. Shucks! She came back later and said that the chow funn was, in fact, available... yay! Our server seemed a bit nervous as her hand shook and placed the special menu upside-down... LOL! We won't bite you! She recommended the Ube Jam drink - it was made with coconut cream... yes! The chow funn was a bit bland. We added some soy sauce. The Puto Pao Bunny Bao had an unusual flavor - maybe the brown sugar can be omitted because the black garlic and vegan pork might be fine without it? The Jade Rabbit Dumplings also could be more savory. Something was off... and the filling was a bit sparse. Anyway, maybe we could have ordered better, but we got what we wanted! Thank you for the cute food! Note: 22 percent is added to the bill - so no need to tip.
