I've been here several times in the past few weeks. I'm no ramen expert. If you don't count "Top Ramen" I've eaten Pho' way more. However that is only because I hadn't made the plunge in to restaurant Ramen. I first came to Tokyo Ya a few weeks ago & as I write I'm here for the fourth time. I can really only speak for 2 items on the menu. the #3 Ramen(Tonkotsu Miso) & the Pork Steamed buns. Both are delicious The Steamed buns had slightly too much mayo so since the first time I ask for "light mayo". The Ramen is fantastic. Full of textures & flavor. The service is very friendly and attentive. It will be difficult for me to try other Ramen spots now that I'm hooked on Tokyo Ya

A friend and I visited because it was nearby our side of town and we wanted Ramen. We went midday on a Monday holiday and it was pretty quiet inside and we were sat immediately. The menu is very easy to understand with lots of Ramen options upon ordering our Ramen came out very quickly, the Ramen itself was the perfect size to finish all of it. I do wish it would've been a little bit more flavorful or rich and salty. I don't think I would go out of my way to come back, but I did enjoy the experience and would recommended if you're nearby.

I really enjoyed the takoyaki and karaage. The ramen noodles were good but the broth was missing something. I had the tan tan ramen and it had some spice but it just missed something from the broth. I added some soy sauce just to give it more flavor. The service here was fast and friendly but I don't see myself coming back unfortunately.

Server Kee was very sweet helpful and friendly. The restaurant was very clean, and the food was delicious. Can't wait to comeback and try different menu items.

Chicken Karaage

We've driven by on numerous occasions. Finally decided to stop and give it a try. Our server was fairly quick in taking our order, but not especially friendly. The menu claims the Tonkotsu Miso Ramen is their most popular item. We ordered Tonkotsu Miso Ramen and Tonkotsu Shoyu Ramen. Hubby said he thought the Tonkotsu Shoyu Ramen broth was more flavorful than his Tonkotsu Miso broth. Ramen additions include corn kernels, bamboo shoots, slivered green onions 1/2 tomago (egg) and 2 slices of seared char siu pork belly. The Tonkotsu Shoyu Ramen also came with 2 squares of nori (dried seaweed) The texture of the ramen was good. The Tonkotsu Shoyu Ramen broth was flavorful. Unfortunately, the char sui pork belly did not taste fresh. It tasted like old pork which ruined the experience for me. The chicken karaage was tasty and is served with a dipping sauce. (spicy mayo) I would have preferred the chicken to a bit more crispy, but I guess that is personal preference. The ramen was okay. I've had better...I've had worse. Would I go back? Maybe....but I don't feel it's worth making a special trip.

I had a gift card to Tokyo-Ya. Located in the Eastport Plaza mall, it's not the most desirable destination. Easy parking in the lot. For a little under $50, we got two ramen bowls, edamame, sesame balls, green tea, and mochi ice cream. Everything was fine - decent noodles and broth, wish my spicy bowl had a more kick to it, good portion size. Staff was attentive. Service was quick. Decor was nice and the place was clean. In a city full of great ramen, this place would need to offer either a lower price point or a more outstanding taste to get me to become a regular.

Great lunch today. I had the lunch special. The chicken that came with it was fantastic!

Wtf? So there was a hair in my order. And I pulled it out and just accepted my fate from there. I ordered the miso ramen? It was so mid. Like in general this place is mid. The interior looks nice I'll give them that but like why was there a hair?? A bug buzzed around my soup and you know foods not that good if a bug spawns out of nowhere. It just has like a fishy putrid taste if you won't take my word for it. It's popular though. I don't get the hype. Dafauq? It's edible as long as you pull out the hair. Ps the bug died as soon as it touched my bowl!! The stench? Idk.

Overall experience was alright I like the decoration of the place The food is 7/10, I was surprised that there's actually a lot noodles and others food in 1 bowl, great to make your tummy full. But it's nothing special of the good that amazed me so I'm giving it 7/10 The service is fine enough, we just enjoy our business to be honest.

Each bowl we explored showed depth, balance, and technique, from the richness of the broth to the precision in every topping. Even the non-ramen dishes held their own, thoughtfully executed and full of character. What stood out most was consistency--every dish hitting the mark, every drink complementing the meal perfectly. It's clear there's intention and skill behind every plate that leaves the kitchen. Respect to the chef and the entire team for turning out food that speaks for itself. Cheers The Dutchman

I ordered the red miso, and there was sugar snap peas and asparagus, which is unusual. The individual ingredients themselves were fine but as a whole, it didn't taste like miso or spicy ramen. The overload of vegetables didn't seem to belong in a typical miso ramen dish (my go-to order) and rendered the broth quite bland. My husband ordered the black shoyu ramen, which was pretty one-note. Ota Tofu is one of my favorite spots in Portland for their amazingly fresh tofu, and it's right across from this ramen shop. Sadly, the tofu they used here was fried to a crisp, lost most of its flavor and had an unpleasant, sharp texture.

We shared the cream cheese wontons, coconut curry with chicken spice level 2(which comes with rice), and the luc lac. Everything was deliciousss! The chicken in the curry broke apart so easily and the curry itself was very flavorful. Spice level 2 was perfect for a little kick, but not too much. The meat on the luc lac has a nice char on it and a sauce that is almost sweet. Service is quick and the vibe inside is very trendy with colorful decor and lights. Great for a night out. Previous visits have sometimes left us confused as if we ordered something different than a usual so i would say it is not too consistent but great if you catch it on a good day.

I was very disappointed and the Vietnamese iced coffee being told that's just how it comes and talked down to like I was dumb. I've had iced coffee, several Vietnamese places and this is the first time it's been about a tablespoon or two of liquid and almost all ice. See photo of finished beverage. For $6.50 this was massively overpriced. The ambiance is super cool which is why I think this place is rated so high. It is fun with all the decoration but not worth it for the food.

Food was solid, but I feel like the ramen was missing a bit of pizzazz. Lovely service and a nice casual ambiance. The last ramen took a while to come, but with a larger party I imagine it was a simple mixup around orders. Okonomiyaki Fries - these weren't bad, the okonomiyaki part was just the toppings. I did expect actual okonomiyaki pieces (flour, cabbage, etc) mixed in. Would have preferred crispier fries (they were a bit soft) and also some extra salt. Might skip in the future or try another appetizer instead. Zen - the basic ramen for building! We added bok choy and an egg for a lighter meal. Nice that they give a whole egg (for $3) because the preset ramens come with half. Noodles were great, and pretty filling given the default price point. Add ons are great to enhance the taste, but won't impact fullness too much. Yuzu Shoyu - personally thought the preset ramens were nothing special. Barely any greens, felt like just a garnish. One piece of chashu and half an egg. Noodles were tasty though! Broth was on the lighter side.

The kitchen brings out steaming bowls incredibly fast, filled with rich broths and excellent toppings with an efficient, straightforward dining style. Tonkotsu Shoyu (4/5): A deeply comforting and classic bowl of ramen. They offer a generous portion of perfectly cooked noodles paired with plenty of fresh vegetables like spinach, green onions, and mushrooms. The soft-boiled egg was perfectly yolky, but the dish would've been elevated even further with a slightly more generous serving of chashu pork. Tonkotsu Red (5/5): A unique variation for those who love a bit of heat. It shares the same chewy noodle and vegetable foundation as the Shoyu, but has a spicy broth that builds and ramps up the more you slurp. The heat was a distinct, subtle numbing sensation reminding me of Sichuan peppercorns, creating an incredibly flavorful and unique twist on a traditional tonkotsu base. Logistics Tip: This is a fast and casual self-service setup where you walk right up to the counter upon entering to order from the menu displayed on the wall. Indoor seating is limited to a few long, communal tables, so be prepared to potentially share space with other diners during peak hours, and remember to bus your own dishes when finished. For parking, street spots are easy to find and can be paid for using the local Parking Kitty app.

Nothing in terms of more complex eg. wheat-y or grain-y notes. The chasu was a bit on the lean and dry side, although the fatty part melted in your mouth, which was good. I hate when it's chewy. I liked the curry and rice a lot. The pork had a nice texture that was fun to chew. It had some bite to it. It also felt meaty and satisfying. The rice was cooked well too. But unfortunately the bowl was super small. It's a $4 add-on to the curry that you can finish in like 3-5 spoonfulls. Maybe that's not terrible as an add-on; I dunno. The line was out-the-door and moved slowly. It took forever to move through the line and order. Granted, it was like 6pm on a Saturday. Personally I don't really mind the slowness, but I know others do.
