Solid sushi options east of 82nd! They have HH Buy one - get one for $1 everyday 4-7 pm. Veggie head roll is my absolute favorite. Staff is always awesome and super helpful. It's a small place but seating is always available!

Lots and lots of yummy food!

We got here during happy hour - on accident - so we were super, pleasantly surprised! My friend was paying, but I think the deal was buy-one-roll-get-the-2nd-for-$1 I don't know exactly what my friend got - because he ordered a lot. But I ordered mini rolls with jalapenos, spicy shrimp rolls & the crunchy shrimp roll. Yummy! The place is small but very clean. It smelled delicious upon entering and the food looked as good as it tasted. Our server was very nice and the food came out surprisingly fast. The restaurant was half full - and it was during a snow storm - so I think it's probably pretty popular when people can get out and about. I am very happy to discover we have a good sushi restaurant in my neighborhood!

We were craving sushi in outer SE Portland and were hopeful of the positive reviews at Sunny Sushi but had some buyers remorse after our meal. $81 for flavorless calamari rings, buffet level sushi, poke bowl or really poke plate with sashimi that tasted frozen, and a tonkotsu ramen that lacked any depth. They do also charge for take-out sauces as well! Perhaps we'll dine-in during happy hour next time as the takeout experience was underwhelming.

Had a hankering for sushi and decided to get some delivered. Their menu looked good and the prices were fine. Everything with delivery was fine an the food arrived in great shape. Beautiful, flavorful rolls. They have a lot of good options, but we still just got a California just in case something didn't hit they way we expected. Well no need for a safety roll because it was all so delicious. Usually I can be pretty happy with Cali but compared to the ingredients and flavor profiles of the others it was pretty plain (but you have wasabi, soy, and ginger to enhance). These were honestly some of the best rolls I've ever had and definitely the best in a very long time. Next time I order sushi it will be from here.

Bento #2 and the JB roll. Delicious!

New spot, so good! We got the bento #2 and the JB roll. So, the balls with sesame on the outside were lightly crispy and warm. The inside super fluffy and just a tad sweet, delicious. Surprisingly delicious. I normally don't like them anywhere so almost didn't try them here. Everything we got was great. They have a ton of deals to get people hooked. It's all about those first impressions! We will be ordering for take out soon to take advantage of the 20%off deal on orders of $30 or more. Fast and great service. Bento is a good amount of food so maybe do what we did and get a bento and a roll to share between 2 people. It comes with 1 soup too.

I really appreciate that you have the opportunity order other things after the Micah is done. It gives you a lot of opportunities to try out other things or double down on things that you really enjoyed. The $20 sake tasting was a big value. The owner had a great recommendation for all the different sockets that they offered with all the sushi. Next time I'm in Portland I'll be sure to come back here

I thought they were going to be fillers but they tasted great and actually put new fish I've never had before on the map for me! Some of my favorites were - kanpachi - kome buri - ama ebi - salmon (I liked it more than the king salmon, maybe I have peasant taste) - toro The omakase was well thought out as you can see and we even enjoyed the miso soup. I think the price tag of $100/person can initially be steep but you can easily spend this much on these nicer orders. I was also worried they might drop the quality during the AYCE portion but it continued to be delicious and service was consistent throughout (there was another group of 13 people so service was a bit slow having to divide time between the rest of the restaurant and them). I highly recommend this place and will for sure come back. Some delicious quality fish and my new favorite if I'm coming hungry!

If you're not downtown, they also have a smaller location on the east side! To start I got the takoyaki, or fried octopus balls. It was crispy on the outside, light and fluffy on the inside, with a tender and chewy piece of octopus, topped with a sweet sauce and fish flakes. Yum!! For my main, I wanted to try one of their broth-less udons and chose one of the specials, the Mentaiko kama-tama Udon--house-made flat udon noodles tossed in and onion oil, bonito, and soy dashi sauce. The noodles are topped with Men-taiko (spicy Tarako caviar), soft egg, tobiko, tempura puffs, green onions, and nori. I also added ikura (as recommended). I've never had flat udon noodles or broth-less udon but I'm forever changed. The minimal broth allows the toppings to be the stars of the show, and here was no exception. The flavors were complex, but balanced, and the variety of textures kept me coming back for another bite. The soy dashi sauce was full of umami and a subtle spicy kick, the fish eggs added pops of saltiness, and the tempura puffs and green onions added some crunch and offset the richness from the other toppings. The house-made noodles also made a huge difference, they were chewy but tender, and soaked up the soy dashi perfectly. I could not recommend Shigezo Izakaya enough!

Menu is filled with rolls, appetizers, and ramens. We tried two ramens and they're some of the best we've had in town! Noodles were well-cooked, both the thin and thick ones. Generous meat portion and it's cooked well. The broths were piping hot and flavorful too. We also tried the Fried Squid Legs and Tsukune. Again, both were delicious and made fresh. Nothing to complain here, we'll definitely be back.

There were large groups of people lining outside but we put our name down on the iPad and got seated within 10 ish mins! Scoreee. This is your sign to be patient cause this Izakaya is so worth the wait! Price point for quality was chefs kiss. You don't really get fresh sushi like this anywhere with reasonable prices! Im taking 5 PCs of otoro sashimi for $25?! Speechless! We outdid ourselves and ordered like 3 rounds of sushi for the three of us and bill came out to $200 ish with drinks! Really easy to do since they had such an extensive menu with just about everything from appetizers, tapas sashimi, hand rolls, nigiri, fried items, sushi ROLLS, ramen/noodles, and skewers! Highlights were definitely the: -otoro (5 pcs ~$25) -salmon medley (salmon belly and 3 other cuts) -scallop nigiri -karaage (5 pcs for $8.99) *pro tip to add their house negi sauce $1 or spicy mayo $0.50 -agedashi tofu (fried tofu) -wagyu beef skewer $8.50 -citrus YTG roll ($15) so refreshing with hamachi (yellowtail), tempura flakes, and a house jalapeño ponzu sauce ! (Apologies for the lack of photos lol. We got too excited since the food kept coming out soo quick we couldn't keep up lol) We also ordered the uni and volcano roll! I might try for the Alaskan roll next time considering it was hard to identify the scallops in the baked roll but still kinda tasty if you're into the warm baked rolls! I was unfortunately really wanting to taste the scallops! Overall we had a great time! Service was nice and attentive! The drinks were really affordable and generous too! My brother in law ordered a chu hi and it came in this huge mug for $14 with an option of refill for ~$7! Such a deal! Arigatou, Hachi!

They have a menu of about 10 rolls & at least 4 involve tempura - which to me isn't the sushi I'm searching for. I want FISH. In addition, their beverages were also limited. I feel like if you're more of a novice to sushi this is for you, but if you love fish & fresh fish - then I would go elsewhere. I will likely not be back nor recommend to visitors; however i would say it is satisfactory to perhaps the most average or novice sushi lover.

Momoyama definitely delivers in the flavor department. What I was struck by was not just the freshness of the fish, nor the expert cuts...but the diversity of flavors. Perfect example - the King salmon with truffle knocked my socks off. I am not really a fan of salmon. I find its raw texture to often be a little soft to my taste and the funk of the omega 3s in quality salmon is just... not my bag. The truffle completely transformed the experience for me. I was not prepared for how well the earthy notes of the truffle complimented the King salmon. It made the sushi something to be savored without any of the traditional off-putting (to me) fishy funkiness. Highly recommended. Similarly, the octopus Sunomono was perfectly prepared. Often, octopus can be chewy. Not in this case. Additionally, the sauces and the salad greens complimented the dish and elevated it from traditional "sushi tastes." The bracing acidity made me want to eat more and was a delightful preamble for the rest of the meal. Service was prompt, friendly, and accommodating. We had a large group of eight and they were dutiful in informing us they had included gratuity in the bill so as to avoid double tipping. This small courtesy was not wasted on us. Service was always readily accessible without being intrusive. Orders were executed without defect and questions were answered pleasantly and with expertise. The restaurant has a pleasant and serene serving space. The bracing refrain of the "Irashai!" Greeting was a welcome touch that made me smile. Overall highly recommended. The prices were quite excellent given the quality of food and I would not hesitate a second visit. Sushi well, my friends.

Maybe the idea is to help with any language barrier -- the server spoke fluent English, while often the sushi chefs do not -- but we found him way too attentive. We sat at the bar so we could interact with the sushi chefs. We did talk with a chef, but his advice wasn't very specific. So...despite plenty of suggestions from the server, and some advice from the chef, and a long time perusing and discussing the extensive menu, we still weren't sure what to order. We finally went with a combo and were disappointed to see it served in a boat! That just seemed like a gimmicky, touristy thing, we would have preferred a plate. The fish actually was very good, and so were the salads. A shrimp nigiri was the only misstep, as the shrimp was overcooked. I guess I would return to this place -- hopefully on that server's day off! And make sure my order is not coming on a little boat. And skip the shrimp.
