Okay, I read the reviews and my expectations were quite high. Going in, I asked the woman working what she would recommend and what was most "authentic". She referred me to Pork Noodle. Oh my, for around $10 and for me being a bugger guy with a healthy appetite, this was easily two meals! Great flavors, noodles were cooked perfectly, nice amount of heat to boot! I'm working on a personal challenge to try to find the best Kung Pao in my area, and after trying a couple of places near by, I pushed out a bit to a provider I used to love when I worked closer and could have them more often. Since my paper menu was three years out of date, I was glad to see they had a website. You don't know how many places I wanted to try that have lost my business because I couldn't find a menu online. Here is the scoop: The Kung Pao was great. It had mushrooms, peas, carrots, water chestnuts, mini corn, green pepper, and the best part... I requested extra hot peppers and they delivered. They didn't just sprinkle some crushed red pepper on like most places do, but they put extra whole dried hot peppers in the mix, just how I wanted. The included fried rice was real fried rice, with carrot, peas, and egg. Not white rice with a brown sauce added like so many lesser Chinese places do. I was going to give four stars, but I was thinking about the fried rice and decided this put them over the top. I am so tired of Chinese places skimping because no one seems to complain, using lots of celery instead of real vegetables. On top of it all, Joyful House throws in a crab rangoon with the lunch special. I'll be back, guys, because this is a class act. read more

Outstanding Chinese Food, Very Good Service, Quiet Setting: I grew up in Southfield, MI which back in the day had the finest Chinese restaurants around. My standards are very high regarding Chinese food, and Joyful House is excellent. Our two favorite dishes are the Hunan Beef (for spicy option), and Triple Delight (for mild/Cantonese option). The flavors and seasonings are very good. The restaurant uses no MSG, and the food is never greasy. The egg rolls are great, as are the hot and sour and wonton soups. The restaurant is small and quiet--much more of restaurant for adults--would not recommend for families with small children. read more

At first glance this place seemed promising. Even the food looked good on the menu. How ever the staff and the menu don't mix very well. I ordered according to the menu description and wound up getting something not explained very well. When I called in about it the staff was unfortunate to argue with me and didn't seem one bit concerned. As a result they get 2 stars. It would have been 5 but because of my experience and how badly I was treated over the phone it dropped. Joyful house? I wish I didn't have to give a star. I ordered take out for Super Bowl. I ordered vegetable lo mein, vegetable fried rice, seafood medley, and egg roll. The lo mein has two small pieces of broccoli, 1 piece of onion, and a couple pieces of celery. The noodles were dry. It was the worst vegetable lo mein I've ever had. The spring roll was horrible, it was very rubbery. The seafood medley tasted like vinegar . I did not eat any of it. I called them but they didn't care to do anything about it. We get carryout from here occasionally. Good egg drop soup and i like the seafood fried rice. But the almond chicken really confused us as it did not look anything like the dozens of almond chicken we've had so far...it had a watery black sauce...not a thick gravy sauce that we are used to....but it wasn't bad by any means...just different. read more

This may be "by far the best Chinese food in Saline" but er... that's not saying too much as there really isn't too many Chinese restaurants IN Saline. In fact, I believe this might be the ONLY actual Chinese restaurant in Saline- or one of two? Anyway. I have ordered out here 3x. The food was about you're "Ugh, why did I eat that crappy buffet food" fare. I can't believe it's higher rated that Biwako- that's completely ridiculous. I think I remember the dumplings are decent here, that's about it. The prices are great, but you're not getting much, either. We used to order from here once a month and loved it. They doubled in size about 8 or 9 years ago, and I think it didn't work out at all, and they really started skimping on everything. Quick friendly service. This is a clean, quiet and quaint mom and pop type of place. We were seated promptly and selected a variety of appetizers, soups and main courses. Everything seemed very fresh, and all of our selections were crisp and delicious. Nothing too oily, overly sauced, or limp and tired like some Chinese food can be. There were plenty of veggies in each dish, a good serving of meat, and the portions were nicely sized. None of the meat was chewy or gristly. We had tons of food left over, and it all reheated well and was just as yummy the next day for lunch. I previously left a 5 star review because I do love this place for the convenience and the food isn't that bad. But the past two experiences I have had here, definitely changed my mind. I ordered a lunch special that came out to exactly $7.70, I already had my debit card pulled out and before the lady at the cash register even handed me my food, she rolled her eyes so dramatically. She said no debit card and pointed to the sign behind the register saying the "require" a $8 purchase minimum for debit cards. No business can require you to make a minimum purchase. If she was nicer I would've bought something extra or ran to the ATM a couple of stores down. I'm sorry Mastercard chooses to charge them a fee for every swipe but they shouldn't be rude to their customers for something THEY offer! I've ordered take-out here three times now. This last time was by far the worst. I ordered crab rangoons, Szechuan chicken, Kun Pao beef, sweet and sour pork, cashew chicken, and pork fried rice for my family. Each dish looks exactly the same. It was even hard to tell the beef from the chicken. In the cashew chicken, there was one cashew; in the Kun Pao beef, there was one chile. Each dish is saturated in a watery, brown sauce that doesn't taste like much of anything. The crab rangoons were by far the most stale I've ever had, and the sweet and sour pork were reminiscent of little wet sponges. The sauce to pour over the sponges tasted the same as the brown sauce, only it was red. The fried rice was stale and barely warm. In conclusion....the food at Joyful House can be described as BLAND. The only consolation for spending $75 on such a disappointing meal is that my fortune cookie reading told me that tomorrow I'll find what I've been searching for....maybe I'll find a decent Chinese restaurant. read more

I don't think I have ever had a worse meal. Ordering Schezuan tofu and vegetables for lunch - $10, and it was mostly a gravy with a few odd peas and carrots (looked like a can of Dinty Moore stew).
