I have passed by this place, several times and would always say I'm going to stop by one day. Well let me tell you. I was not disappointed and I'm glad I made the decision to check it out. My favorite is the Panang chicken curry it's amazing. I have also tried their curry avocado with generous portions of chicken and avocado During lunch time you also receive a bowl of hot n sour soup. It's very spicy yet not overpowering. During dinner time their portion size are bigger. On this visit I had to try the chicken laab, papaya salad is the best, and the broccoli delight . Don't be deterred by the location (across from the Executive Airport). The food is really good. I'm picky about Thai Food and this place nailed it. The Crying Tiger was a hit. I ordered a bunch of dishes to go with it- the spicy fried fish (a specialty), Basil Chicken, and several others. Can't go wrong If you at least order one or two of their specialty items and mix it up with another dish for variety. We have been going here on average twice a month for the last 2-3 years, mostly for take outs. Noong is always friendly and besides the really tasteful food, she is definitely part of the reason for our return visits. Some appetizers are not their strength, like angel wings or golden prawns. However, in my family's opinion, their papaya salad and spicy tofu are the best in town. Silver noodle and seafood salad are delicious and refreshing. Most of their dishes are solid, but our favorites are the smoked eggplant and basil fried rice. They are truly authentic! Some people are turned off by the exterior appearance. Firstly, the waitress was extremely lovely and sweet, and I feel bad for leaving such a low rating, but please know it is in hopes that they will improve the quality of their food. My partner is Thai, and so we have a generally accurate understanding of what Thai food should taste like. The boat noodles were so bad that I had to send it back, which is something I never do. It literally tasted like those instant Pho noodles from Costco. The broth had absolutely no flavor, the noodles were depressingly overcooked, and overall it was nothing like how Thai boat noodles were supposed to be. The Pad Thai was super wet and ketchupy, the worst kind of Americanized Pad Thai that we didn't expect to be unlucky enough to come across again. The crab fried rice hardly had crab, and the rice was hardly fried. Very notably low effort. At the very least, the angel wings (served with obviously BOTTLED chili sauce) was okay and edible. The menu was pretty basic and generic, so who knows maybe we ordered the 2 worst dishes, but I'd expect the Pad Thai of all things to be decent. The vibe was giving, a Thai restaurant that gave up on providing an authentic experience, and resorted to pandering to the uncultured type of Western taste palette. Please do better! read more

Excellent service!! Walked in today and was greeted immediately. The server was really accommodating and asked for our preference of seating (table/booth) and sat us down. The decor and background music was splendid. They played on traditional thai music and had really neat pictures and a huge painting on the way. The food was probably the only reason why I gave this a 4/5. The Mango Red Curry (prawns with added chicken) was a bit bland. There wasn't much salt in it and so it tasted flavorless. Nonetheless the other entrees we had were good. The beef larb was yummmy. It was my first time having beef larb that tasted sweet with a nice hint of sour. My family did not like it since they were used to the traditional Hmong Larb (we make it differently but same concept) but I enjoyed it. I would have to say the Beef Larb was my Favorite. Would I come back? YES!! I would come back and the next time that I do, I'll probably try the Green Curry Avocado. read more

Our first time here, my husband and I walked in, and I was very impressed with the decor of the place. The open entrance, the beautiful lightening, and calm music made it a very relaxing atmosphere where one just wants to sit and eat. We had the angel wings, pad-see-ew, chicken Thai basil, and the hot & spicy fish, all in medium spicy, with sides of sticky rice. I don't usually say this but man everything was delicious! I'm from Thailand and I love Thai food and the food here is really awesome. The angel wings were really crunchy on the outside but soft and yummy on the inside. Just perfect. And the sauce they served with it was BOMB! I'd def get this again to start off the meal. I really liked the chicken Thai basil. The sauce is just to die for! Dip it with sticky rice, take a bite, and go to heaven...I can eat their pad-see-ew everyday and don't even get me started on the fish... Customer service was outstanding, equivalent to any service I received at high end restaurants. Needless to say, I'm definitely coming back. Can't wait to try other dishes! read more

To be honest I thought this place wouldn't be any good! I drove past this place many times and it always look so empty, so I assumed it wasn't good,but THIS PLACE IS SUPER YUMMY :) I'm so glad my friend picked this place for dinner! The location of this place is along Freeport Blvd near AMF bowling. Not really hard to miss this place, but you may mistaken it for something else -- there is a big yellow banner that says grand opening, but idk if that will be taken down later. The parking lot is kind of small since it's shared with a auto shop, but it's easy to drive in and out of the lot :) The interior of the restaurant is big and nice with lots of decorations. There's tables with chairs and booth seating along the walls. There is a tv, but it wasn't on at the time. Anyways, the food is delicious!! Ordered #12 the chicken larb salad as an appetizer and it was quite yummy -- it was my first time trying this dish! For the main entree we had a order of #21 red chicken curry extra spicy and an order of hot basil fried rice! We asked for extra spicy on everything and it was the perfect amount spicy :D Very great spices! My favorite dish was the BASIL FRIED RICE and I would definitely come back and order that again :) Portion sizes were big and just the perfect amount too. The prices for dinner is a bit higher compared to lunch, but overall prices are average compared to every other thai restaurant. And the workers here were friendly and kept refilling out waters. I never would have tried Erawan except that the husband and I needed an "E" restaurant on our eat the alphabet quest, and I didn't want Mexican (there are plenty of "El Mexican Food's.") So we ended up at Erawan, and I was pleasantly surprised given the mixed reviews on Yelp. The restaurant is located in an old shopping center in South Land Park. The decor is funky; par for the course for Thai food. There are elephants everywhere, a fish tank, stained glass 1970s light fixtures, fake banana trees, etc. We were one of three tables filled on a Thursday night, so the service was rightfully excellent and friendly. We ended up ordering the spicy fried tofu, doubled spiced lamb, tom yum soup, and brown rice. Entrees are around $9, but portion sizes are large and unlike some Thai food I've had recently, the dishes were full of fresh tasting vegetables. Even the tofu, which was an appetizer, was basically a full plate of food. Everything was good, though as others have mentioned, not too spicy. I'd highly recommend the lamb. It had a nice smoky flavor under all the pepper and onion and I'm going to have to rock-paper-scissors my husband for the leftovers tomorrow. While Erawans' isn't my favorite Thai food ever, it's been added to my list of standby restaurants in Sacramento. I'd gladly go back. read more

YUM! My first time at this recently-relocated neighborhood spot and I am quite pleased! 1. What you all care about the most - decorations are ah.door.a.bull. Very cozy, dark wood everywhere, and beautiful colored glass lanterns on the ceiling. Some local establishments tend to err a little on the side of "ramshackle", but Erawan is definitely a book you can't judge by the cover. I think this would be a nice spot for a first date - pretty and unique, but not so pricey or fancy as to say, "you are now obligated to put out." 2. I stopped in to order to-go after work, and still managed to receive excellent wait service! My waiter had me sit at a table and take my time to peruse the menu, and offered me water while I waited. Took my order from the table, brought my food to the table, brought my check to the table. It was pretty early and there were only 2 other tables being served, but both were large groups, and he was very attentive and friendly with them. A++ 3. And, what you ACTUALLY really care about - the food. (on a side note, can Yelp teach me how to italicize in my reviews so I don't just have to CAPS LOCK everything significant? kthx). Got some pad thai for the husband, and veggie red panang curry for myself. yum yum yum yum yum yum YUM. Count the "yums" here, people. Pad thai is a staple but can vary widely by location, and I'm happy to say this version was a lovely balance of rich and flavorful without being too sticky-sweet or soupy. In addition, my curry was like - BLAM - . I sat on the couch eating it and saying "omg this curry" between every single bite until my husband finally told me to shut up. I have driven by this place hundreds of time and always thought it seemed too sketchy to try. I absolutely love thai food but usually just make the drive to thai canteen in midtown (my favorite). However, lately our neighborhood facebook group (hollywood park) had been getting a ton of posts by neighbors about how good Erawan thai was so I finally decided to give it a go. The food was delicious and i'm so glad i tried it- I ordered drunken noodles and Tom Yum soup. Both had a ton of flavor and i was more then satisfied. Also, do not let the outside of the building fool you, i was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere inside! The only reason for taking a star away is because what appears to be the owners and their friends were taking up a table in the restaurant and had all their little kids running around. The kids were screaming and running in circles and it made my experience more unpleasant then i was hoping. The fact that it was the employee's kids and not just another patron made it a bit more annoying. In the restaurant's defense i did come at 2pm on a Sunday (I believe they close at 2:30 pm) so i will only ding them one star read more

My boyfriend and I went to Erawan, which was always just okay for its food. However, they just recently got a new cook, a couple team--the woman does the curry, and the husband the other dishes. The female cook is not only masterful, but you can taste the love she has for the food and her customers in the dishes. We ordered the yellow curry, and it was so fragrant, so aromatic that we spoke to the chef afterwards to give her our praises. Right now I'm in a bit of a favorite-dish-slump because I just ordered the same thing again. But I plan to try some of the other curries, the green, for instance, the Panang. A Panang is the mark of a good Thai restaurant, the same way that a chow fun is of a Chinese restaurant. If a Panang is appropriately spicy and fragrant for Thai, chow fun should be in tact, the gravy perfect, and the noodles shouldn't be broken. Both are a difficult and fragile recipes, an art to eat if they're made properly. Only a master can make them beautifully; a competent cook doesn't break the noodles in the chow fun. The food is superb, but the location not as central for those of you who live downtown. However, the dining area is elegant and perfect for a date. With beautiful carved wooden walls, and Thai cultural art, it's a perfect romantic ambiance. The bathroom area is not very fancy, but clean. Update, the green curry is also good. Their Pad See Euw is also delicious! We typically go to Andy Nyguen's for Asian fusion vegetarian Delight! Nothing can quite beat Andy's for what they've got going on there. This is definitely a hole in the wall. We were greeted and quickly seated by a friendly young lady, Amy. You get a real taste of Thai from the interior design here. The food was served very fast and it was just the way I like it, HOT! What really grindes my gears is lukewarm food! I was actually surprised at how long it stayed hot :) Amy was very attentive to our needs and our order was amazing soo many authentic, bold flavors... everything was wonderful even the music gently playing in the background made me feel like I was at a 5 star restaurant smack dab in Bangkok! :) I give this charming place 2 tumbs up!!! Good food and great service, just like their old location. Food: garlic prawns are delicious, as is the dressing that comes with their peanut dressing salad. Their pad thai is wetter/saucier than some other restaurants, but I really like that about it. It's so yummy and makes for better leftovers. Great curry dishes, and even the pineapple fried rice has a slight curry flavor. I've never been disappointed in a meal here. Service: everyone who works here is friendly and helpful. I ordered take out from their new location and showed up a little early. They sat me at a table while I waited and even brought a complimentary thai iced tea because my order was taking a few minutes longer than expected. Today I had the spicy catfish (a little greasy, but the veggies that come alongside are oh-so flavorful), and the duck over spinach, the drunken noodle and the green chicken curry. Don't let the location fool you, this is the best Thai food around. Plus, the servers are all really nice. The best deal here is the lunch special. For around seven dollars you get soup, spring roll and entree w/ rice. The entree is large enough for two people. The garlic chicken is my favorite lunch special. Their noodle dishes are also really good, especially the drunken noodles. They also serve fried whole fish and chicken dishes. What I really like here is the red and yellow curry. They have a nice heat without being overly spicy. The red comes with basil, zucchini, green beans, and bell pepper. All the fresh veggies provide a nice contrast to the sauce. The yellow is creamier and is served with potatoes and carrots. It's nice to have such a great restaurant in the area. Now I don't have to drive all over to get my Thai fix. read more

Erawan is my favorite Thai restaurant in town! I've stopped in for many times over the past couple years and each time they have not failed me! I always get the yellow curry with chicken. The vegetables and chicken are cooked perfectly and the sauce is so mouth watering. I could seriously just eat rice and the sauce and call it a meal right there. I almost always leave with a container of leftovers because there's just so much. I have also tried the red and green curries and they are also just as delicious! I have also heard great things about the pad thai, too! Heck, one time I was sitting near a table where a lady was talking with her friend and saying how she goes to Erawan almost every week and had nearly everything on the menu. There was not one item she said was bad. She and her friend ended up ordering a whole bunch of dishes because she wanted to have it all! The service is wonderful here, too! The staff is always look genuinely happy to serve. They constantly check tables to see how everyone is doing and fill waters more often than I see at ANY other restaurant. Extremely attentive! What really set this place apart from any restaurant was that they scoop the rice onto your plate for you! Now, it hasn't happened all the time, usually when it's slow, but a small gesture like that really surprised me. And the ambiance is certainly not lacking! From the giant paintings, ethnic light fixtures, and the unforgettable fish tank, Erawan has just so many things to look at and enjoy. They also have a flat screen for your viewing pleasure, but most of the time it's off which I like, personally, because I find TVs to be too much of a distraction. The only negative thing I have to criticize about Erawan is something that is out of their hands. The location of the bathroom is really uncomfortable. You have to walk down a cold, alley-like hall and follow signs in hopes you don't get lost. When you have in fact found the bathroom, it is quite cozy and charming! I also wish they chose a better location for the restaurant in general. It's tucked away behind the Vic's supermarket, so I don't think many people know about it. This is my go to Thai place. I've tried a few other spots but JP is the most consistent in flavor. Plus, their customer service is amazingly refreshing. I've always been greeted with kindness and respect, offered water while I wait if my food isn't ready or quickly checked out if it was. I'd love to come and actually sit down some time. Our usual order is two orders of yellow curry with chicken, Thai spicy. Plus, we've tried several of the appetizers but my favorite is the veggie egg rolls. Also great on the menu: chicken satay, calamari, fresh spring rolls, and chicken (Thai spicy) fried rice. Can't wait to come back and keep trying new things. Erawan appears to be a hole-in-the-wall from the outside. However, when you walk in you're surrounded by charming and beautiful decor! Their food is delicious too. The Spicy Eggplant and Pad Kee Mao were so flavorful, just like Thai food should be! The restaurant was empty. Their service was spot-on. Bathroom appeared to be clean, but the door was filthy! (Easy fix.) I sure hope this place stays afloat, because its a well hidden gem. read more

I love this place! I'm a big fan of Thai food and tend to visit Thai places when I go out of town. I have to say this place is high up on my list of favorites, which is amazing because we live so close. Their food is consistently good and they have a good variety of dishes to choose from. I always get yellow curry with tofu and chicken, coconut lemongrass soup and spring rolls which are all super delicious. My husband gets the Pad Thai and they never short you when it comes to shrimp! The new Thai place opened up in the Bel Air shopping center (Sai Varee I think?) and one night we thought we would give it a try... Last second we changed our mind and decided to stick with Erawan. Of course we weren't let down and much to our surprise they gave us a free order of spring rolls (probably an order that were never picked up, but who knows!). I have had friends and family who have visited Sai Varee since then and said that they are just okay when it comes to the food and have horrible customer service. Everyone at Erawan is always very friendly. So its safe to say we will be sticking with Erawan and will keep going back. read more
