I wasn't too hungry and just had wontons. There's free parking in the lot with multiple other restaurants and stores in the vicinity. The food was excellent. My friend loved his pho. Our order was taken quickly, and our meals came just as fast. We were there at about 10 a.m., and luckily there was not many people. I often find myself at this location simply out of convenience, and I don't even need a menu because I've memorized my usual order from frequenting their other two spots. That said, every time I eat here, I end up wondering why I didn't just take the extra time to go to one of the other locations. Although the ingredients seem the same, the flavors just don't measure up--and I'm not sure why. It might be the way the meat is marinated (or not), or perhaps the portions are slightly smaller here. I usually go for the pho or bún, but it always leaves me underwhelmed. On a positive note, the service is friendly. The staff even noticed I was short on fish sauce and brought more without me having to ask, which I appreciated. Love to support small businesses, I really enjoy their staff it's the same couple employees every time. They are super friendly and very accommodating. When I went to pick up food I sat to watch some football the gentleman turned the tv so I could see better without asking. This is my go-to pho place! With all of the rainy weather we had during the winter, pho was exactly the pick-me-up I needed and I found this place on my quest for it. This place is no frills and is super straight-forward, which I can appreciate. I've been a few times and have had the chicken pho and the lumpia. I'm not a pho expert, but I think it does the job. The beef broth is amazing here it's not strong in msg flavor. I ordered a large with everything in it and it was amazing. The sauce for the egg roll was super disappointing there was no flavor in it. The egg roll itself was great just the sauce that didn't taste good. The water cup was so gross idk what that was but hopefully it's not in my water. The inside of the restaurant is really spacious and clean though with 6 ceilings fan so it's cool inside even during May. If you're vegan or vegetarian - avoid this place. The online menu linked off yelp to the business website was promising. Clearly marked vegetarian options and descriptions, with even a clear distinction of separate soups that they consider "flexitarian" (veggie soups that still use meat stock) and dishes that contained mock meats. It all made it seem like this was going to be the place to satisfy the vegan and meat eater's dinner out together. Well that came to an abrupt halt after we were seated. The menu we were handed didn't even resemble what was online. Our odd server (more on that later) was indifferent. He flatly stated that the location I was sitting in didn't offer what I wanted and had a different menu altogether. The "vegetarian" pho, and all of their soups for that matter, contain meat stock and they didn't carry any of the mock meats advertised. I had been duped. Had I been by myself (or with other non-meat eaters) I would have walked right out, but instead I tried to get by with tofu spring rolls and a tofu vermicelli bowl. The rolls were pathetic. Literally just unseasoned tofu, lettuce, and rice noodles. Bland. The peanut sauce was watery. The vermicelli bowl was much of the same and hugely disappointing. I left most of it behind. Our server topped off this lame experience. He was super loud and robotic when I asked a question during the ordering process, which even drew laughter from nearby tables. Later he sat down at an empty table behind us and had a full on conversation with himself as he slowly cleaned it off. And when it came to our table he flat out ignored us after the food was brought out (as well as others that told us they were waiting forever for their bill). Later, when we had to flag him down to get more water, as he was refilling our glasses he started dumping ice water everywhere like.it was his first time filling glasses. When we told him to be careful since he was getting water and ice on the floor and it was splashing us he just gave us another robotic "okay" and walked away. Again, giggles from nearby tables from customers who were shaking their heads like us in total disbelief of this guy. The service was so bad that his manager came over - but only to make excuses and tell us how great of a worker he is. Unbelievable. There's no shortage of Vietnamese restaurants around Sacramento to warrant this kind of experience again. I won't be back and I won't be visiting their other locations. read more

Upon entering we were presented with a waitlist when 4 tables were open. No hello, no smile, no nothing. While waiting for over 10 minutes, we noticed that there were no Asians in the restaurant. Being Asian myself I know this is always a very bad sign. While we were waiting, there was a group that was in the middle of their meal and they were providing their grievance politely to the manager on duty. Living in the pocket, I have been a long time fan of this place and have lots of happy memories dining in pre-covid. Unfortunately, I am learning from other Yelp reviews that Hoa Viet is under new management and has a new cook(?). I am disappointed by the increased prices for decreased value. I almost asked if I got the right order when my 2 vermicelli dishes came up $30. Luckily, I got the receipt which confirms that prices are way higher that what I have come to expect for Vietnamese food. This also includes a mysterious To Go fee at what appears to be $0.50 per item. I declined utensils and condiments (whatever that would have been haha), so not sure what this fee covers aside from the box itself. The portion of meat in their vermicelli dishes seems less (though the noodles maybe more), the fish sauce now had a spiciness to it (a plus if you like a little heat), and the egg rolls now lack the deep golden brown deep fry they had before. Peanuts were ground into a fine powder and the mint was sad, wilted, and browning... I would be embarrassed to serve these leaves, lol. Well, new management, I hope your greed doesn't get the best of you. For the sake of those in the pocket, I hope this place survives... but I don't plan on coming back unless the prices drop back down. I won't hold my breath ;) read more

We went twice in the past month after coming here regularly for over a decade. It was so good, that it was our traditional Christmas Eve dinner! According to the cashier, they've changed chefs. Well the new chef is not any good. I ordered my usual #59 - Charbroiled Chicken over Rice. The chicken was bland, with almost no grilled/charred flavor. We also ordered the Salt and Pepper Chicken Wings. These also lacked flavor and the breading was much thicker than before. They used to be light and crispy with plenty of salt and pepper. They used to be tossed with fried onions, bell peppers and jalapenos as well. The jalapenos added a nice heat which no longer exists. We ordered the lemongrass chicken with and without spice. Both were bland. Even the spicy version had almost no hear. Rather than a stir fry, the chicken looked like it was simmered. The onions it came with were overcooked and the chicken was more boiled than stir-fried. The whole dish looked anemic with only chicken and yellow onions. The few green onions did nothing for color or flavor. Previously this was a nice flavorful dish stir-fried with lots of garlic, lemongrass, Thai chiles and vegetables. We ordered a side chicken broth. I think what came was actually their regular chicken pho broth. While it tasted good, it lacked that really good rich flavor for pho. (It's possible they've changed owners too, but I didn't ask. The entire restaurant has been remodeled. The new ambiance is as bland as the food.) My siblings and I came to eat on a Monday evening. They were pretty busy which is good. The wait time was around fifteen minutes, not too bad. We ordered the Cream Cheese Wonton with Crab, Lumpia, BBQ Pork Fried Rice, Mongolian Beef, Zechuan Chicken Wing, Chow Fun, and sides of white rice. The food is top notch. I bring friends and family that come to visit at least once, and the response is always the same. This is so good, always. I get the beef pho extra tendon, bbq pork shrimp spring rolls. My partner always gets fried shrimp and salt and pepper calamari , bbq pork fried rice which I also eat lol. Oh the vermicelli rice noodle bowls are bomb too! We eat here or order takeout at least twice a month. Also menu has Vietnamese, Chinese, Filipino cuisine.
