We've been coming to this spot for over 25 years. They have really good vegetarian options and fair pricing. The place is always really clean, including the restrooms and the parking is easy bc if their lots full, there's a huge lot at the strip mall right across the street/ on the same side so not the busy street the small side street. Watch yourself at night or after dark, not the best area, but never stopped us lol. Food comes out fast and we find ourselves coming back whenever we're in the area craving Thai food. Staff is really friendly and are always nice and I like they come w the water refills often, esp when ordering higher spicy levels lol. read more

Came here with my daughter for a quick lunch. First thing I noticed was the really unique interior. The inside mimics a Thai temple which was really cool. Secondly, the food was extremely affordable especially the lunch specials. The portions are huge but you're paying a pre-covid price so I was really happy about that. Lastly, the service and food were great. I got the beef larb and it was good. The Thai tea was good as well. What struck me about the food is the classic flavors they had. This was quite the experience. I found this looking for the closest Thai place to Oak Park. We decided to go before a show but showing up at 4:30 pm on a Saturday, this place was completely deserted. It was nice to be able to look around the restaurant at leisure and enjoy the beautiful Thai decor and experience great service. The location is a bit awkward with the construction currently happening on Franklin, but hope that's temporary. They have a small parking lot in the front with a handful of spots. It looks like it has been there awhile. A Thai stronghold in a majority Latino neighborhood. Offerings: - Pad Kee Mow: very saucy, lots of meat and veggies. Good flavor overall but could have had that extra punch. Not as spicy as it looks either! - Pad Taew-Poo: Essentially a Pad Thai with crab and imitation crab instead of another protein. It was good. Again, very saucy and missing that special flavor. - Thai Tea: Same feelings. Good, but not great. It was missing that extra authentic flavor. The quantity was great. But it it was almost like they were afraid of the bold flavors that other Thai places pride themselves on. My theory for this place is that it is authentic for its time. When it opened, I don't imagine they had a lot of authentic ingredients and access to the homeland so these iterations of dishes are likely the best they could do. Also, considering the name is an old reference to Thailand. It also serves a mainly non-Thai audience, so no one is really policing the flavor or technique. I'm definitely not a Thai expert but I do feel like the flavors here were very simple, palatable - almost like a Thai-American hybrid. They offer quality Thai dishes at reasonable prices. I've tried a good portion of the menu, but for first-time visitors I would recommend to start with the classics like drunken noodles, your curry of choice, and the larb (minced meat with herbs and spices). The dishes are prepared authentically and service is solid. If you want something a bit unique but still familiar, try their angel wing, stuffed chicken wings. We are papaya salad connoisseurs. We particularly favor Laotian style papaya salad and not every Thai restaurant offers it. It just so happens the wife wanted Thai style this time and you know what we've been back 3 times in the past 2 weeks with multiple orders each. The flavor was so good. It was super refreshing, with a savory, sweet, lemony taste that's just to die for. We have been back and will continue to be back. Also tried their pad thai during our first visit there and it was also cooked to perfection. It was a bit on the sweeter side, which is not normally my preference, but this time it just works. The noodles were super soft and chewy, and it had the right balance of flavors. I've had worse pad Thai and this beats them easily. Service was excellent as well as decor. Parking lot itself is a bit small but plenty of parking on the street. Met the owner's daughter who was pleasant to talk to. First, the prices are fair (ordered chicken dishes and 1 seafood dish), so if you're looking for affordable, then come here. The only seafood dish I got was the tum yum. Thai food should be a balance of sweet, sour, and salty. The dishes were all too sweet for me and my husband. Panang curry was watery and again on the sweet side. Where are the peanut undertones along with the curry flavor. I taste basil and a lot of sugar. Also, lots of green beans needs more meat. Drunken noodles were good, but where were all the noodles. It was hard to find. They were broken up and a little mushy. Papaya salad was perfectly spiced for medium but again so sweet. Chili chicken was okay. Tum yum was again sweet and was barely sour. So disappointing. Was missing the tamarind and lime. The pad thai was the highlightlight. Good, but where is the side of peanut and bean sprouts that usually accompany it. I have passed this restaurant almost every day for years and I finally decided to stop in and try a little something. I had always heard that the food was some of the best, but that was not my experience. What I ordered was the papaya salad, chicken satay and angel wings. I ordered the salad mild and it was okay but it could have been more flavorful. The angel wings were tasteless, no seasoning at all. The chicken satay was dry and flavorless also. The 1st thing that caught my eye was their lunch special! for $7.95 you can pick 2 items from a limited (but solid) menu. These items include BBQ Chicken Basil Chicken, Garlic Pork, Panang Curry w/Beef, and Pad Thai Noodles. I went with the Basil Chicken and Panang Curry w/ beef. The waiter did ask me what meat I would like so I'm sure you can switch it up if beef isn't your thing. For the price. you get a really good amount of food that will leave you satisfied and full. I was really happy with the flavors of the basil chicken and the Panang Curry. All of my coworkers got the Paid Thai so It will be on radar for next time. This has the mom and pop shop feel to it. It's small on the inside, the waiter was really funny and nice. It kind of feels like a home on the inside, The décor is old but it suits the building. There's nothing special on the outside. The parking lot is limited in space and street parking or parking at the market across the street might be a little better. Had a craving for Thai after hiking in Auburn. Love this place not only because it's down the street from me, but also for the flavor, the customer service, and the authenticity. I usually order either the Beef Thai Basil, Firecracker Shrimp, Chicken Pad Thai, Papaya Salad (Laos), Beef Larb, Shrimp Tom Yum Soup, or Beef Noodle Soup. I always order more than needed in order to have leftovers. You can't go wrong with any of these dishes (add a side of jasmine rice). Tonight, I tried Pad Ped and it's equally as good as their Thai Basil dish. We also ordered a bowl of Beef Noodle Soup to celebrate the fall weather. Best papaya salad, either Thai or Lao style. Prices are not bad at all compared to some other Thai restaurants. Customer service is also very great. Paige is super friendly and food comes out very fast. I just chewed it and spit it out because of how rough it was. I ended up not eating the beef anymore. so, don't order the beef! It's superrrrrrrrrrr low quality and you inedible. So, you ask me why did I rate this place 1 star? This is why... remember when I stated that the thai tea was a $1.75? Yea, we ordered it I told the guy who worked there to have minimal ice because I don't like when the thai tea is watered down after the ice melts. Guess what? When I saw the check they charged my friend and I $2 each for the drink when it was $1.75 on the menu. I asked the older man with white hair why this is.. *****and he said because we said less ice so they had to add more thai tea in it which caused them to up the price on us!!! What the heck!!! I told him that isn't right to do! When I go to boba places they don't charge me extra for less ice! Yesterday, I dropped by this place to grab some dinner for the first time since being under new ownership. Man do I miss the previous owner. I ordered 4 dishes 1) Pattaya dish- seafood was minimal, topped with lots of black pepper and salt. I was more sad then disappointed because it was so poorly made. 1 out of 5 for effort. 2) chicken pad thai - noodles tasted boiled but it had good flavor with the chicken no other toppings came with it (no peanuts, bean sprouts or slice of lime). I know everyone has their own method of making it. 2 out of 5 for taste. 3) beef salad - very limited slices of meat piled on top of lots of iceberg lettuce and sauce. Had good flavor but I was surprised by how saucy it was. Looked more like a papyay salad then a beef salad. Extremely disappointed. 1 out of 5 for taste 4) chicken basil- had good flavor probably the best out of my entire order but there was more veggies then minced chicken. 2 out of 5 for taste. Every time I go to a Thai restaurant I always get pad Thai chicken. Their pad Thai is bomb AF! Their spice level is extremely spicy!
