Went to JP'S in Falmouth today with Jasy. She's leaving for a week so thought a nice dinner with mom would be nice before she leaves. Ordered my dinner...Chicken Marsala. I am very particular, because I have a certain taste for it after many trials at so many places. I asked for spinach to be added. They put the food on top of it, wasn't even cooked. There was also a side of veggies, which I never hear of with marsala and was never told by the waitress. There were peppers, if you know me, thats a no go. But didn't know, so couldn't advise. Probably didn't help the matter, but again not my fault. I advised the waitress I didn't like them but do not remake it, I would pick them out. The manager came over and I explained the situation. She offered me a free glass of wine. I had not eaten anything, maybe 3 bites. I told my waitress I did not like the marsala. I have had it a few other places and I just did not care for it. I said it was no discredit to the chef, I'm sure others love it, I'm just not a fan. It's just not my cup of tea. No disrespect. I received my bill after returning the food, the entire plate of food. It was still on the bill. Again, not even a doggie bag to take home or offered one. I told the hostess to let my waitress know I was not paying for it. The manager came over asked for my name. I asked her why she needed my name and she said the chef said I was not welcome back. I was polite and kind and called everyone sweetheart. I dont understand the rudeness from the restaurant manager or chef. This, by far, is the worst customer service I have ever had at a restaurant. I had nothing negative to say about the place or the chef, just didn't care for the meal and this is how I was treated. I'm really floored and sooo disappointed. Top notch, homestyle Italian cooking with professional yet friendly service. It's hard to get a reservation, as they are extremely popular - and for good reason. Indoor and outdoor seating (seasonally). In addition to the printed menu, they have a board with specials. It's partially obscured, and weren't told about it except by another patron. The kitchen here is obviously passionate about the food, and it shows. Everything was served piping hot. Flavors were rich and the ingredients the absolute highest quality. From beginning to end, this place exceeded my expectations. The staff was lovely and was enthusiastic to hear it was our first time dining with them. The menu was plentiful with no bad options to choose from. Beautiful wine selection with all the classic drinks you'd see in a tiny restaurant in Italy. Will be returning to eat here again. We ate at JP's for dinner today and it was awesome. The whole family loved it! I used to work for JP years ago as a kid and he was always great to work for. There has ALWAYS been a core following of people that ate where he was the head chef, no matter where he was. 15 years later visiting Maine with my family, it was a travel back in time. The same great food with the same great head chef. Some of the same staff I used to work with still work for him! He takes care of the people who work for him so they stay with him. It's nice to know that if I want to get some fresh seafood, JP is the man to provide it. It's not easy getting a reservation and it's because people love the food. Take the time to get in there. I just wanted to update you since we did takeout from JP's the other day. It's kinda hysterical. If you look at the "menu" on the website, yup, you guessed it, it's the same list as is on the wall (in fact it's a picture of the wall), still without any explanations (see we called and asked). You wanna know what's in the seafood casserole? Not gonna tell ya. "Salmon 3 ways"? Not gonna tell ya which ways. It's as if they want to be asked the same questions over and over again by the clientele. But, alas, no fear, cuz "Craig" of "Falmouth" food-splained to me via Yelp that I'm "complaining about something that 99% of the people don't care about". Phew, I feel enlightened now that I know 99% of the clientele of, let's just say, all restaurants on earth, don't care about what is in dishes, if they can actually SEE the menu or how much noise there is. Our first time to Jps. We sat at the bar. Our waitress, the bartender, did not tell us there was a second menu. She told me I had to take a picture of it to read it - odd. We had soup & an appetizer - very good. $9 for a simple beer? Too expensive. Diners were an older crew who seemed to follow the restaurant. The staff could not be bothered with "outsiders". Overall an uninviting atmosphere - we can dine elsewhere. read more

I recently went here with several people, and we all ordered different apps, meals, and desserts. Wow, not one item was even mediocre, everything was phenomenal! The french onion soup is delicious. I loved the homemade Caesar dressing for the salads, and the dirty wings were amazing. My ribeye was cooked perfectly medium, with some delicious garlic butter and mixed veggies and mashed potatoes. The baked stuffed haddock was delicious, and the coffee dry-rubbed pork chops were perfect. Please save room for the beyond amazing Coconut Cream Pie. I may drive there just for that! And, it pairs well with their toasted coconut margarita! The food tastes that much better with their amazing staff and chef. They are all so friendly and helpful with recommendations. The food and service was fantastic. Excellent scallops with risotto, amazing bread pudding, great salads and cocktails. Service was excellent. However I prefer to not be asked to leave my table for people waiting for a table while still finishing a nice bottle of wine. Don't do that. read more

I can't speak to their food as they are IMPOSSIBLE to reach. Between myself and my friend, we have called them repeatedly - sometimes getting no voicemail at all, it just keeps ringing, or no ringing at all. I've left two messages to make specific reservations, but nobody calls back. I finally went in personally today to make a reservation and they were booked up. WHAT??!! I asked why they didn't return my calls and she simply stated, "We get a lot of phone calls and it takes awhile to get through them. Seriously?! Total takeout from South Portland to Falmouth and back ... 30 minutes on the table at home, we started with 1/2 order of Rigatoni Vodka, Large Ceasar Salad ... a double order of Spicy Broccoli, Chicken Francese, and Chicken Marsala ... It was as always, magnificent. JP's again shines cooked to perfection and served in the best to travel containers in the business. If you haven't tried JP's takeout ... you've just past the best dining experience in southern Maine ... this food is second to none, the staff knows how to make it happen ... a 10 ++! We have dined here several times... Classic Bistro style restaurant. The food and service is fantastic although my favorite dish, Veal Parmigiana, has changed. The cut of meat is way different now. Somewhat similar to the veal patties you buy at cheap sub shop. I was so disappointed. Don't let the negative reviews fool you as many of them have been posted in anger because they were unable to make a reservation. JP's has delicious upscale cuisine. I love their caesar salad and their chicken parm is too die for! My family also enjoys the haddock and mozzarella sticks! This restaurant is a must try in Falmouth! read more

We made a reservation a week ago for 6:30 on Friday night. I am currently on crutches after ankle surgery so it's a bit difficult to get around. We arrived and the handicapped space was blocked by someone parked illegally. By the time the car moved, we walked into JPs at 6:42 to be told that we should have called and that our table had been given away since we were 10 minutes late. We were told that the next available time was 8:15. They had not tried to contact us and were extremely unapologetic about the situation. I called the manager the next day to be told that we should have given a call as a courtesy to let them know we were going to be late. Again- we would have only been only a few minutes late if the parking situation would have been better and didn't have someone blocking the handicapped spot. We were looking forward to trying this restaurant in its new location but will not be revisiting anytime soon. Very very disappointed with the customer service. read more

We were visiting from out of state and our friends made reservations to JP's. We certainly were not disappointed! Our waitress, April, was attentive and patient with our many questions. The menu is deceiving...there are many choices on the paper menu but there were many more choices on the chalk board. That part was slightly inconvenient since we couldn't see the board from where we were sitting but my husband got up and took a picture with his phone so we could then read it while seated at our table. So many choices! I ordered the salmon with roasted veggies and pesto. I wish I had taken a picture to share. Probably one of the most colorful, healthiest meals I have eaten while dining out. Each bite was delicious. My husband enjoyed the chicken Marsala and it must have been really good since he basically licked his plate clean. They have a full bar and the wine we ordered was the perfect accompaniment to our meals. My husband finished off his meal with a piece of key lime pie and the bite I had was yummy. If we travel back this way, we definitely will be dining here again! read more

We have dined @ JP's original Portland location for years. We were thrilled to find that while the Portland location had closed, the new Falmouth location is going strong. This was so disappointing on so many levels. We have heard the raves about the amazing food. We tried to get in last Thursday for a drink and and appetizer and were told that we couldn't have a table until 9 pm. That was okay, and we were intrigued. Fast forward to today. I called the Bistro around 11:30 am, and was told we'd have a high top table reservation at 5:30 tonight. We arrived on time ... five minutes early actually. We were seated at our table and waited.... and waited... and waited. It wasn't until a couple seated next to us informed their server that we had been seated for a long time (almost 20 minutes) and hadn't been even asked if we wanted anything. We were just about ready to get up and leave. Seriously... but thankfully the well seasoned woman who was tending bar and juggling everything else with no help from anyone else came over to our table. Her name begins with T and she certainly did her best to make up for the chaos of this restaurant. I would never write a bad Yelp review, because I imagine it is so hard to be in the restaurant business. But, it gets worse. The food was not good. We tried the mushrooms stuffed with crab... we couldn't taste a hint of crab, just bread crumbs. The bread brought to the table was seemingly an Italian loaf bought at a grocery store... nothing special. The side salad was the best part of the meal, but also something I could get at Shaws. UGH... I wanted your restaurant to be so good, but it was not. I had the Chicken Francaise... chicken was over cooked, mashed potatoes were pasty, and to be honest, the best part of my meal was the summer squash My partner had a seafood dish with linguini. Haddock and scallops way over cooked... shrimp was ok. This is a hard sell for us. Probably won't be back. We chose you over some fine Portland restaurants tonight. There were servers walking back and forth by us, and no one seemed to know we were there. If you want to keep a full house, you need to work on training or getting more staff to pay attention to paying customers. read more

This place has been a favorite of ours for years. Now in Falmouth this past Saturday was our first time back since they settled into their new home. Love the interior and happy they have more space and tables for people to dine - a huge plus! Please do look at the 2 doors you have - they create a loud slam to those dining in the bar next that wall separating the entrance and the tables in area of the bar. Those doors opening and losing rattle that wall and should be addressed so it's not so loud or disruptive to those dining in this area. Second, the prices for the entree's look like they've all gone up around $5. My thought is that this kind of increase is a little quick and steep. Third, you need to be better about returning calls from people trying to get a reservation. I had to call back to get mine after no call back to the message I left 2 days earlier. It's good customer service to do this and your business depends on it. Other than those observations, we had a great meal and really love the added space inside and easy parking. Just did pick up at JP's last night, it was perfect! So grateful they were open on a Tuesday (our anniversary) and as always the menu and choices were excellent, promptly brought to the car all prepaid with tip. (Keep in mind to top generously, its more work to manage all this take out prep than you might imagine and they made it easy:) No traffic so was able to do the 20 min trip in less than15 no speeding, kept warm on my own plates in low oven w a loose cover of foil while serving the perfect Caesar salad and beverages. Meal was totally enjoyable (w leftovers) and as always every item was tasty especially the vegetables. Seems every veggie they serve suits the entre and is extra special. There is not one item on the menu I would not recommend although we have not yet tied everything! Oh and that special garlic butter for the bread that was included. Enjoy!
