Let me start by saying I really like J's chicken and really haven't had any complaints since covid hit, because that's when their prices went up only to get smaller pieces of chicken. Today I ordered 100 wings for my husband's company in an effort to thank his drivers because once in a while it shows you appreciate them, 4out of the five drivers had never tried it, the chicken was extremely dry, as though it had sit out overnight, it had no flavor even with the lemon pepper seasoning on it, two of the drivers stated they are glad they didn't spend their money on it, I ranted on how good the chicken was only to be very disappointed in this order. The service at this location needs improvement!! ASAP! I went to place an order at the counter, as I was in the middle of placing my order the man behind the counter answered the phone. He then started taking down the phone order! Instead of telling the person on the phone to hold on for a few seconds, he felt that it was okay to take the order during the time I was placing my order. After he got off the phone, he didn't even apologize for being disrespectful. I ordered 3 wings and attempted to order Fried Okra. I have learned to place my order online and THEN still show up about 10 min after the latest time they said it would be ready. I usually go to the one in independence but I was close by Prospect , I wanted combo 6 large shrimp and 2 catfish. The whole plate looked disgusting and old. The Shrimps were not large at all. The catfish was thin, dry and hard. Along with barely giving me fries. I paid $15 and they refused to give me back my money along with refusing to remake it and with getting smart at me and tried to gaslight me to say the shrimp was jumbo/large. I'm giving both J's Fish and Chicken and Door Dash a negative 5 stars!!! I placed an order via Door Dash. I did not receive the correct order and the food was cold. So, I called J's, and the phone message stated that the voice message was full and could not leave a message. So, I called the store the next morning to explain the issue and they stated they did not see my order from the night before and I should call Door Dash. Called Door Dash and they stated I need to call J's. I called all the J's Restaurants, and they all stated they didn't see my order and that they are not affiliated with each other, which is a lie! So, I took my order into the J's on 28th and Prospect around the corner from my house, which this is where the order came from and the male, (I won't address him a man, because he did act like a man) he was rude and show no concern. Anyway, my bank card was compromised and I had to get a new card. Door Dash asked for a picture of the food so, that they may give me a refund. I explained to her that the card was closed, and the bank gave me a new card. The Door Dash idiot kept over talking me and said the refund was issue back to my closed card. So, I had to call my bank, and they could see that the idiot from Door Dash tried to refund money to the closed card. My Bank is refunding my money to my account. J's Fish and Chicken and Door Dash are thieves, and I will never do business with either of them again. The fried chicken is to die for!! I loved the amount of crispness to the chicken and the prices are not bad at all. I got the 5 piece thighs and legs and it only costs $4. The downfall to this restaurant was their mac and cheese for me. You can tell in my picture below that the mac and cheese is pretty basic consisting of elbow noodles with a thin coating of cheese on the noodle. I can't even call it a cheese sauce because it was so thin. It felt like they just used Kraft mac & cheese, scratched the butter, and only added half the cheese packet making for a pretty bland side. In the end, J's Fish & Chicken is a great option for anyone craving fried chicken in the KC area. The taste and value of the chicken make for an excellent meal option, however if you are looking for sides to go with your chicken, don't get the mac & cheese and go with a different side. read more

Unfortunately, I can not recommend this place at all. I ordered online for quick pick up because of COVID. Arrived as food was ready but the little room for waiting was absolutely packed with people almost elbow to elbow - forget social distancing. I stayed outside and had to call the number 10 times, before it got answered and not sent to a full voicemail, so I could tell them I was there and to have it ready when I walked up to the window inside. I waited nearly 20 mins to get a hold of someone to have them have the bag ready to hand to me while I held my breath and grabbed it so I could get back out the door before having to take a breath inside that enclosed and packed 8x10 room. Then when I got home and saw the food and tasted it I was absolutely astonished at how bland, uninspired, and unpalatable this sorry excuse for edible sustenance was. From the unseasoned, cardboard-tasting shrimp and fish that was fried to a chewy state and then thrown into the Styrofoam box without draining it, thus melting the box and soaking the slice of bread, to every last detail of the Cajun drummies that didn't have any Cajun flair whatsoever. The baked beans tasted like they came straight out of a Van Camps pork and beans can. The coleslaw definitely had nothing to boast, and the hush puppies even my puppy wouldn't touch as he simply looked at it, sniffed it, and gazed at me in dismay that I would present such a disgrace to him as a treat,.....it was just all really bad. Some of the best Fried Chicken in Kansas City. We usually order 30 wings to go. It's best to call your order in ahead of time to avoid the wait. It may be hard to get through also since they are so busy with cal in orders. I have tried the Jumbo Shrimp also which is good. Haven't tried anything else.
