JT's invites you to enjoy a menu of many simple choices in two manageable, plastic coated pages. Waffles and breakfast food and a flip of the menu later you are greeted by pot roast, goulash and a panoply of sandwich choices. Grabbing a seat at the counter near the kitchen, my waitress greets me in a t-shirt that good-naturedly invites me to "Eat and get out, Dork!" Service is swift and exact, as my double cheeseburger arrived in less than five minutes during a Thursday lunch rush. The meat is juicy and beautifully seared, the cheese melted into each nook and cranny without leaving the patty, and the veggies are crisp and cold. Fries were crisp, hot and tasty, but clearly from the freezer. My only complaint? When you make a burger this good, don't cheap out on the bun, which is instantly overwhelmed by the heat and moisture from the meat, with the bottom falling apart by the third bite, forcing me to flip the sandwich to finish. Been here twice so far. First time was a completely average breakfast. Second time I got corned beef hash. My god. It was absolutely disgusting. It was truly a pile of mush. There was no texture, they only thing distinguishing the "corned beef" from the potatoes was color. It was either microwaved from frozen, or out of a can and right onto the flattop. It was actually vile. It came with eggs which had no flavor or seasoning. My fiancé got chocolate chip waffles. Also a joke. It was just a warm waffle with a scoop of loose, hard chocolate chips on top. I'm not making this up. Who doesn't put the chips into the batter?! Stopped in today after the gym for breakfast. The BEST part of this place is the speed of service. Today from the time I sat down until the time I was walking out was 28 minutes! Went for the dinner hours on Sunday. What a neat way to have a dinner! 1950's carhop style! The food was delicious and not a long wait at all. The waitress was dressed 50's style with her pony tail and poodle skirt. The music made it all the better. Speakers outside played 50's music! We're fans of the TV show Bar Rescue and we're struck by the way JT's seems to be both a before and after--quality design, thoughtful materials...the J in JT is a contractor while the T is a vocal owner waitress happy to scream across the dining room every minute or so. Overheard while eating my eggs this morning she told a male server at the counter to "move your vagina". The ethos is summed up on the staff shirts with the motto "Eat and get out Dork!!" My plate came out about 4 minutes before my husband's-- they actually brought over the check before he was served, but the food was cooked properly. And they invested in quality flatware and colorful dishes, if they went a little berserk for giraffes in the decor. They're not hurting for business so you will not be missed if you head somewhere else. But fair warning to bring earplugs or Excedrin if piercing screams tend to give you migraines. read more

My girlfriend and I went for breakfast and at first, it was a fine experience but that was misleading. Our waitress was incredibly rude and invasive. I pulled my phone out to respond to an important text to which she abruptly pulled it out of my hand and proceeded to set it on the table. I get that you want to create a specific type of environment and that's fine but I did not appreciate having my private property ripped from my hands by a stranger. To top the poor service, our food was really bad. The breakfast sandwich seemed like it was cooked rubber and the home fries were a sad excuse of a side dish. Went in on a Saturday afternoon around 2 pm and as we walked in there were a couple women with a few young children in the small lobby area paying their bills and the woman behind the podium was literally yelling at the top of her lungs "well go get one, quit whining and pick one out! Then before she even took my order she screamed "SOUP!!" and a girl appeared out of nowhere and practically threw his soup at him. Had the plate the bowl of soup was on not had a large edge he would've been wearing it. The music playing above every table was all country and also blaring to a level where you had a hard time hearing each other talk. The food was mediocre. Their breakfast bagel sandwich was pitifully small. The bagel itself was small and there was only one small fried egg on it with one piece of bacon and melted cheese. Their equivalent to tater tots were tasty and the ranch was good. My husband ordered the cheese burger which she said when I asked was a thick cut and when it came it was not the case. We went to JT's based on a recent article on the Cleveland area's best diners in Cleveland Magazine. It's a 12-table restaurant with a small counter area as well, situated in what looks like a renovated house. They serve typical diner fare at very low prices, and it was packed at 10 a.m. on the Sunday morning we arrived. The owner is a very loud, and at the time very pregnant, woman who is known for being terse with customers in a friendly manner - their slogan is "East and Get Out, Dork!" And with seating for only about 30 people total, you can understand why they want turnover ... campers cost them money. Within about 3 minutes of sitting down at the counter, the owner was there asking what we wanted, and she wanted an answer right then. I didn't mind the rushed atmosphere, or the shouting - it's a small enough place that the owner, the kitchen staff and many of the regulars converse with each other by shouting across the room. My partner, on the other hand, found it a little to rushed and a lot too noisy. All in all the food was fine - I got eggs and pancakes and he got biscuits with gravy. The food was exactly what we had imagined it would be and tasted perfectly fine, and the bill was only $9 (before tip) for a very filling meal. I'd give this place 4 stars, but I wanted to be circumspect about the difficulty getting a seat and the loud, busy atmosphere - some people might not care for that. Still, I'm a fan of local color, and this place has it. If you want to eat somewhere that is unique to Northeast Ohio, and you have no place better to be than Willoughby on a weekend morning, definitely check it out. read more

We have gone back numerous times since my last review and I must say my opinion has changed. The food is still great and the owner is still hilarious and awesome but the atmosphere, which I criticized last time, has grown on me. The culture of the restaurant is unique if it's your first time there. Imagine going to a family reunion where everyone is yelling at one another in jest and rolls are being thrown by your crazy grandpa. That is JT's diner. The staff sucks you in like your part of their family, which can be a little off putting the first time you are there. It was certainly a unique experience. It seems the gimmick of this place is that Tina, the owner, is a crass, boorish, loud presence in the restaurant. Yells at staff and customers alike. Throws the plates of food onto the table. Calls people dummies, idiots, dorks, losers etc. The strangest part to me is, there wasn't another person on staff acting remotely like this. It seemed almost as if they weren't really that into her behavior, in my perception. The food was good though.
