Excellent experience at the Chagrin Tavern. Place was very crowded on Saturday evening with live band. Lucky to grab bar seats facing out to water. Service was quick and friendly. Pizza and wings were great. Good frozen cocktails. They have completed major renovations. The outside additions created much more water front space including a tiki bar and stage for the band. We were referred by Nate from the Prop Shop while we were waiting for him to fix up our prop. The service was attentive. The vibe was excellent! We sat out on the patio and watched boats come and go. They had some live music. The food and BEER were great. The reviews certainly do not represent the quality of this place. It's pretty obvious when you actually read the reviews. Now the empty nesters my wife and I can take off and eat wherever the heck we please without having getting agreement from the family. The season is escaping us we have yet to have a meal at the chagrin tavern. It was surprisingly not busy so we were able to score a table right on the patio coming up on sunset. Our lovely server is named Emma and I want to give her 17 Stars because she is an amazing server and they're very lucky to have her. Emma was quick with the drinks and she did mention that they may or may not be out of the French dip which I get is a standard anytime a restaurant offers it. She did confirm that they were able to serve the dip and offered up the lobster tater tots which were interesting but I did not eat all of them because I wanted to enjoy them later for snack so I did take a couple home. The only reason for four out of five stars is that the French dip was exceptionally stringy and fatty and I felt they could have done a much better job of trimming up the meat prior to serving. My wife really enjoyed her fish tacos but she is very averse to onions and was not aware that it came loaded with pico which of course is half onions. But our lovely server Emma was quick with the refill and we learned a little bit about her life and how much she really loves serving at the tavern. I did have my wife's 50th birthday party here a few years ago but it's a tad out of the way from our house so we don't come here that often. However the slow season is upon us and it is actually a very enjoyable establishment we will be back read more

It's been a few years since I was here but they have expanded the place and it's huge with plenty of seating both indoor and outdoor. We arrived at 5:30 on Saturday evening and had no problem getting a table for 2 outside. And parking was ample. If you can deal with the flies, it was a nice night to sit along the river and watch the boats and listen to a live band on the beautiful stage. Service was good, all the wait staff were working hard. Food was good and plenty of it. I got the weekend special, prime rib, and my husband got a chicken wrap with fries and side salad. Prices are what you would expect. It got a bit more crowded as the evening grew later. It's a nice spot on the water I would recommend for lunch, dinner or an evening of appetizers and drinks. I visited this place last weekend after a weekend of celebrating my friend's birthday in the Cleveland area. We were seated by the water which was a nice view and were able to put our orders in fairly quickly and it came out in a reasonable amount of time. I got the shrimp and grits and it was pretty good and very filling! I will say the prices for their sides were kind of confusing because the menu said one thing and the service staff said another. Additionally, two of my friends got the same meal but one person got obviously more than the other. When we thought they were going to make it right, the person that we thought was gonna help came back empty handed with an excuse as to why it couldn't be fixed. I had purchased a $30 coupon for $15 through CLIPP. Went last evening and was very happy with the ambiance, service and food! Stacey was our waitress who was fantastic, friendly, and attentive. The restaurant was open to the river with a band getting ready for the evening entertainment. I decided on the patty melt with onion rings, and my friend went with the French dip. Both were absolutely delicious! My patty melt was cooked perfect and very tasty. The French dip was "real" beef and also very flavorful. We had a great time at the chagrin Tavern. We had a private party and they had a giant room that was very nicely appointed with two servers that attended to our every need. The owner was also very personable and the establishment is right on the river, so the setting is beautiful. The food was also excellent Italian. I would definitely go there again and again. Never leave bad reviews but weird that the waitress wanted to literally fight us over whether the stuffed peppers were spicy or not. Grandma couldn't eat them and didn't wanna wait an hour for a salad (not that a sorry/ refund/ exchange was offered). My friend and I enjoyed the atmosphere at Chagrin Tavern the best. It was a hot summer day when we sat in the area in front of the bar where all of the bay doors were open to give it a feeling of sitting outside yet the benefit of shade and ceiling fans. Watching the activity on the River as we ate gave the restaurant a good vibe. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. She even brought a refill of iced tea before I asked for one. I had the fish sandwich with onion rings. The fish sandwich was good, but I think I enjoyed the onion rings more. My friend enjoyed her cheeseburger and fries. How hot does sauce have to be to immediately cause skin to bubble up and slough away as I was wiping sauce off? Very unimpressed by manager/owner's response to situation. My friends and I dined at Chagrin Tavern 7/29! Our awesome server was Holly she was amazing. Holly was very attentive and made sure our food came out very fast and hot. She also made many accommodations for us. We started out inside and wanted outside seating and she made it happen. Then the sun was intense she moved us inside without any hesitation. Again Holly was amazing. The food was very good. We did appetizers and entrees. The nachos and calamari were delicious the mozzarella sticks were as well. The bar was clean and full because of the band. The bathrooms could stand more attention all the stall didn't have tissue. I told a server and next restroom trip was much better. read more

The next day we had a dinner set up at a local restaurant but due to the storm and them having no power we had to find a new venue. We panicked! Family took us here before we were heading out on the lake to watch the sunset. The visit seemed promising at first since our waitress was nice enough. We ordered a couple salads, wings, and a burger with a side salad. The side salad came out fast but we had no utensils. Our waitress never checked back. Finally after about 45 minutes of waiting we flagged someone down to ask about our food. That brought our waitress back and she said the kitchen told her to "get out" (she seriously said that). Finally after we'd been there an hour everything came except my burger. That took another 5 minutes. The waitress never offered us new drinks or refills on our water. Went to Chagrin Tavern for our anniversary. My husband ordered the fried perch, it was AWFUL! We tried to talk to the owner but he did not care, he said that was the way they make it, pretty much our complaint did not matter to him. This was a surprising and fun find in East Lake! I met friends here for dinner and drinks and having never been in this part of the city, was quite thrilled to experience this cool spot on the canal. Google maps initially took us to the wrong location so we enjoyed a nice little drive around the area checking out cute houses and boats. Although it was chilly outside, we opted to sit outside on the patio. There are several heaters set up outside, there is a great view of the canal, the outside area is very spacious and the vibe is fun. There was a band playing inside and we could still hear the music clearly outside and there were a bunch of guests (both inside and out) dancing along and having a great time. Honestly, the only reason I gave them 4 stars instead of 5 is that many of these guests were not wearing masks as they danced around. I didn't feel very comfortable walking through the mask-less crowd to walk inside to use the bathroom. My friends and I all enjoyed some yummy cocktails. They have a cocktail list but I opted for a whiskey ginger ale and most of my friends drank beer. My food was A++! I had the Kale salad with brussell sprouts, toasted walnuts, blue cheese, and added shrimp. It was soooo delicious! I enjoyed every bit of it. All three of my friends had fish sandwiches (2 walleye and 1 perch) and fries and they all enjoyed their food too. We went to Chagrin River Tavern to see Ace Molar... we were not disappointed!! The band was FANTASTIC! But, I can't say that about the Chagrin River Tavern however...DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!! We waited 2 1/2 hrs for food that NEVER came and the staff was horrible! Dismissive, cocky, and so rude!! The owner was drunk and his managers could care less. It was the worst experience I have ever had in a restaurant. drove over an hour with high hopes and left with empty stomachs and less money in our pockets. they were out of absolutely everything from the start. no cups, no silverware, no soups, no drink syrup, nothing. we had a party of seven, all ordered water or diet, and she came back to say there was no diet and also no clean cups. insane. we ordered different drinks and one of the iced teas came in a bourbon glass because there "weren't any clean ones" like ??? okay?? she then told us the kitchen wasn't taking orders because there was one cook and the manager was "helping" in the back, which is wild because they were still seating people like nothing was wrong. we sat for over an hour being told there were "only two more tickets ahead of us" and then they'd clean the grill, only for a different server to tell us actually there were EIGHT more tickets and then the grill would be cleaned AFTER all of those. what the hell is going on back there?? that was our final straw. we walked out and are currently eating at the mexican place down the street like normal functioning people who want a normal functioning meal. asked for a discount and of course got nothing. ended up paying 25 dollars for poor service and drinks we didn't originally want. i truly hoped this was just a bad day but nope, the reviews show it's been a disaster for years. that's ridiculous. as someone with over two years of restaurant experience this was absolutely humiliating to witness. i get being understaffed but the complete lack of communication, planning, and basic food service standards is unacceptable. tell people the kitchen isn't taking orders BEFORE they sit down. fire whoever was "managing" tonight and start over. this place is a joke. tldr: they served iced tea in a bourbon glass, lied to us for an hour, and ran a restaurant without cups, food, or shame. currently eating chips and salsa elsewhere like survivors. read more

HORRIBLE! I got the perch platter. The perch was so hard fried it was like cardboard. It smelled so fishy too. What was that breading anyway??? The fries were so greasy I could have wrung the grease out with my hands. The waitress gave us a bowl of lemons and on the bottom were rotting lemons...like growing pink stuff. Clam chowder is tasty. The kale & brussel sprout salad for $12 purports shaved brussel sprouts, walnuts (perhaps candied - don't recall), kale & bleu cheese. The sprouts were halved without the ends cut off, there was maybe 2 walnuts & a fair amount of kale & generous bleu cheese. Nowhere near a value at $12. We have been to the Chagrin Tavern before and enjoyed our time there. The service has always been a bit slow, but the food was good. Unfortunately this changed when we came out from Lyndhurst on Memorial Day to hear our friend play music. We sat outdoors on the patio listening to the music. After more than 30 minutes with no one stopping by to take our order or even say hello, we bussed our own table and went to the bar to get some water. When we got back, the table next to us flagged their waitress to come see us. This young lady was very curt, telling us they weren't serving any more tables and snatched away our menu and left. Not one server stopped to see how we were doing. We noticed other tables being seated and served. So though we enjoyed our friend playing guitar, we left to go somewhere else to get lunch and will most likely never come back. We understand about short staffing and long wait times. We don't understand about rudeness. If you want to stay in business, you should rethink your concept of customer service. read more

I contemplated writing a review but I felt it was needed. I came here on a Monday night with my family for my Wife's birthday, there was a total of 12 of us 4 that were under the age of 6 which is a pretty big party for any place so we expected there to be a wait for food and drinks. My parents ordered nachos at 6 before we arrived and they didn't get to our table until 7:30. We made our food order a little after 7 and then was told at about 7:45 that they didn't have one item so my brother in law ordered something else. Then at 8:25 was told that they were out of almost everything we ordered. We were told earlier around 7:20 that 2 cooks walked out on the weekend and they are doing everything they could, we told them we were okay with the wait and understood. My biggest issue here is not the shortness of staff and the wait but the lack of transparency, if we were told earlier when we ordered our food that it would be a long wait or about 3 hours for food then we may have had time to relocate our party to another restaurant. This place is in a great location but if you can't keep up with the orders and being clear with the customers on the situation then maybe it would have been best to close for the night and regroup. read more
