If a Juan Pollo Chicken and El Pollo Loco Chicken were both about to fall off a cliff, i'd probably save the Juan Pollo chicken. Although that probably isn't much of a surprise... This is my go-to to-go (heh) place when I'm too lazy to cook dinner. The whole chicken family deal aka the MINI PAK is such a good bang for your buck - less than $20 and can feed around 4 people! Comes with medium sized rice, beans, potato salad, and salsa (hot or mild) and tortillas (your choice of flour or corn). Standouts: THE POTATO SALAD - the hype is real folks. Their potato salad is pretty dang tasty. THE HOT SALSA - never knew id like carrots in my salsa until i had theirs. WHaaaAA!!! Why doesn't all salsa have carrots? Something about this dang salsa is so FREAKIN GOOD. I need the recipe plz. THE RICE - not just plain ol' jane rice. It's seasoned with widdo bits of chicken and not too salty. ALL THE AFOREMENTIONED STANDOUTS EATEN IN THE SAME BITE WITH THEIR JUICY CHICKEN = THE PERFECT BITE. Another plus...THE FOOD COMES OUT SO QUICK. Maybe im just lucky, but I'm consistently literally in and out in less than 5 minutes for a family meal to-go. Quick food, no quality compromised. My only complaint about this place is I noticed their flour tortillas come in a sealed bag....makes me think they're not fresh... TIP - check their website for coupons! OMG this is place is BOMB!!! i'm seriously craving it as i'm writing this review....i love love love the rice! I grew up going to El Pollo Loco on Azusa since it was so close to my childhood hangout, Chuck-E-Cheese. I always thought El Pollo Loco was ok, but not something I was ever excited about seeing on the dinner table. Then, also long ago, I went an aunt's get together and they had rotisserie chicken. Thinking it was just El Pollo Loco again, I ate several pieces and was beside myself. I actually asked my aunt if El Pollo Loco changed their recipe. The chicken was just THAT much better and this was as a teenager that pretty much ok with eating anything. Fast forward to now, and I feel the same about this place. The rotisserie chicken here is really, really good - I can't deny how good the chicken is, but I'm assuming that's got something to do with the stock recipe from all of the stores. So, I'm giving them a plus up for their consistency, of course. The rest of the food is hit or miss, depending on the day you come in, I guess. Luck plays a factor. However, as for everything else? Food is great. Too bad customer service is horrendous. Came in tonight to order dinner to go. Get all the way home and unpack the order only to realize they shorted us one order of potato salad. I call back in and the cashier, Reyna, does not believe me when I say the potato salad is missing. Asked me 3 times to check the bag again. The bags are empty, lady! My husband drives all the way back to pick up the missing potato salad. He gets there and Reyna who (a) forgot the potato salad to begin with and (b) didn't believe us when we called had the nerve to act upset when he came back in with the receipt. Didn't even apologize. OK, but if you're looking for good chicken this is the place to go. It's very flavorful and good. The rice can be dry at times, the beans are just what they are refried can beans. The potato salad I won't even say anything. But I gave it one star, because the Juan Burritos, are very skimpy on the chicken. If you do get chicken it's either crumbs or bones. I've had four burritos from this place and all four of them have been mostly rice, crumbs of chicken and bones. Though it's a good satisfying 1 pound burrito it's just that rice. I really love Juan Pollo especially on Tuesdays and Wednesdays when I get the special. The only thing is on weekends it gets too packed with people . You have to be patient to get your order. They have excellent chicken especially when I ask for it well done. I have to say that I really like Juan Pollo. More than El Pollo Loco as a matter of fact. If you are in the Azusa/Covina area, I would encourage you to go to this location. There is a location on Barranca and Route 66, but it sucks. I would have loved to give this place 5 stars because i love their chicken, but it is true that customer service is ket in a good dining experience. We eat juan pollo at least 2 times a week because the food is good and its easy to grab on the go, but the bad attitude and customer service given by the ladies working there makes it a bitter sweet experience to stop by and get food. Recently i called to place an order for pick up, the lady picked up the phone and asked me to wait on the phone, meanwhile i was driving there already, i was put on hold for 10 minutes, i walked in still connected and showed the cashier that was i still on the line, with a dill look in her face she looked lost and i told her look, i called, was put on hold and im still holding why would you do this to me, she called a lady in the back and said if she had picked up the phone to what she said, "Oh yes, i did, i told him to hold on, but then i forgot" The cashier turned back to me and just nodded in a way like saying well you heard her. I was upset that not even a sign of embarrassment or remorse or nothing, i told her look if you guys aré not going to take care of whose calling then just say so or tell them To call back not just leave the person hanging. The prices are more than fair, specially on Tues and Wed. They always accommodate our special request for aluminum trays because the foam containers always melt from the heat of the chicken. The chickens really good but has to be fresh from the rotisserie. Once you leave it overnight in the fridge, its dry and not so good. So, all I wanted was 2 tacos and a bean and cheese burrito. I thought that it would be an easy order. But I guess it was just too much for KELLY to handle. So instead of taking my phone order I was told that since there was no one in line at the restaurant and it was a small order I could just wait till I got there to place the order as it would only take them 5 minutes or so for them to make I explained to KELLY that I would be there in 5 minutes. Sooo I arrived 5 minutes later and of course the food that should have been ready I now had to order. This chicken is way better than that crazy one...yes it is rotisserie instead of charbroiled but it tastes a hell of a lot better...even my dad admits it and he is such a huge fan of that other chicken that on our annual pilgrimage to Mexico we had to stop in Mazatlan (site of first crazy chicken rest.) The skin is so crispy I could just make a taco out of it...and the meat...mmm...the meat just falls off the bones. They offer fresh mild and hot salsas and make the best pollo rice (a rice kinda like Malaysian "Hainanese" chicken rice...but used as a side)...a pretty good potato salad (sucker for potato salad) and their beans are just O.K. thus I always have a double order of rice and potato salad with my lunch or dinner...all you need is handmade tortillas and it would be like getting a great meal at a small town up in the sierras of the pacific coast near Puerto Vallarta...but that would be dreaming...and it would earn them the fifth star. Their burritos are huge...however they are spread with mayo (not a fan) so if you don't want it make sure you tell them. They also have hard shell chicken tacos (taco bell style) and salads...everything else is just OK but their roti chicken and rice are damn good. I order their chicken special about 3 months ago. The one they have on Tuesdays. I was so disappointed when I got home. It's not a special, because they get the tinest chickens they can purchase, so two of their chickens don't go very far for a family of 6. I went back there today Saturday, 6/2/18. I called my order in and I was told my order would be ready in 15-20 minutes. I arrived there to pick up my order. There was a woman being helped before me. There was also a woman sitting down at a table. When they finished with the woman before me, the woman at the table jumped up and got in front of me. She made her order which was actually for the next day. I waited while she finished her transaction. After the girl at the counter helped me. I said I called in an order gave her my name. She repeated my order to me and I paid. While I was waiting for my order another woman came in said she called in her order and asked if it was ready. The girl replied no, we don't make your order until you arrive, because lots of customers arrive late. I looked at the woman and said what's the benefit of us calling in our order. The girl at the counter said, because you can cut in front of the other customer here. I said like the lady that cut in front of me to make an order for tomorrow? She didn't reply. I think they have terrible customer service. When people call in ahead of time they expect their order to be ready. When I got home and looked at the chickens that I ordered, they were not much bigger than the ones I ordered on their special day. When you pay $44.00 you just expect a little bit more for chicken.
