For the price I would think they would put at least some carne asada so u can taste something other than fries and rice. Had high hopes but don't think I'd be willing to spend that kind of money for rice and French fries burrito again

Say nice things about Highland? It's landlocked, that's for sure! But, they do have some outstanding family-owned Mexican restaurants scattered about, and every one of them is unique in their style. Juanitos is in an older shopping strip on Palm near 5th, so it's easily accessible from the 210 Freeway. Parking is surprisingly dense but there's space further out there. Inside it's a divided section for ordering and waiting, and a largish dining room with TVs. I watched the men's freestyle Olympics figure skating as I waited and ate. It seemed like every time I lowered my head to take a bite someone messed up their routine and I only saw the wobble or knee touch afterwards. But what tasty bites they were! My order was broad enough for a good sample size, and after experiencing their spicy duo of salsas with the provided tortilla chips, i was primed for the street tacos. I couldn't really decide which was best as all four meats were excellent (carne asada, al pastor, chicken, and carnitas). Each was loaded enough to dump a portion onto the second tortilla and allowed me to compare the salsas with each type. Eighth mini tacos essentially. Without rice and beans, it was comfortably full and eager to go back soon for another round or two. Burrito or nachos? Or birria tacos? My other favorite thing was that made-to-order agua fresca, their pepito limon. I got the smaller size but it was sufficient and very delicious. I'll try another flavor next time for sure. Anyhow, excellent food and a good place for lunch or dinner if you're going to the Casino or heading up to the mountains.

The cheese is melted under the toppings. Nasty asada.

Never mind that there's no tasajo or cecina on offer. The tlayuda was puddle of melted jack cheese. I elected for the bland under-salted asada in hopes that it would be a suitable approximation. No dice. Without the Oaxaca cheese, it just tasted bland and fatty. No amount of the salsa they had in the squirt bottles could save my meal. I'd normally crush a tlayuda and waddle out of a Oaxacan joint uncomfortably full. Here I scraped a fist sized wad of jack cheese off in an attempt to save my meal, ate about 1/3 of it, chucked the rest in the trash, and left. The tacos arrived cold, with little meat, and were bland. One star for being generous with the avocados on everything!

First time trying Juanito's Tacos and I was impressed. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful. The carnitas tacos were excellent, and the al pastor had really good flavor as well. The green sauce was one of my favorite parts -- flavorful with a nice kick but not overly spicy. Service at the counter was also great and welcoming. Overall, a really solid taco spot and I'll definitely be coming back.

This little restaurant serves amazing food and great aguas frescas! The service is always friendly and the food is made fresh to order. It's not every day that you can find somewhere that makes amazing taquitos de papa, but Juanito's does just that! They have a pretty expensive menu, and next on my list to try is their quesabirria tacos. Their salsas are also delicious and spicy! The restaurant is located in a large shopping center with other food establishments, but the parking lot is big and usually not an issue. The restaurant itself, although fairly small, has a good amount of seating.

Small Pork Fries, bean tostada, chips and salsa

Used to come all the time when I worked at a school near by. Moved to a different state but recently moved back to town. It's still great!! Glad to see it's still open. Seems like every good place is being closed down. Of course there is Rosa Maria's, but Juanita's offers a much different flavor and different vibe. The salsa is wonderful and the flavors are all great. It's all homemade so it can vary on flavor by the day, which I like! I like that it taste homemade. It is a family restaurant and that makes it all the better. The employees are all very nice and definitely care about their customers. I'll be back weekly, as usual.

We found this place by accident, after dinner next door and on the way to get some dessert. Passed this place and the aroma was amazing. So after the dessert place we came back to this restaurant and ordered some to go because we can't eat anymore. Since that day we came to this place 3-4 times. I love the cheese enchiladas and taco biria. I will soon come back for different dishes. The staff are top notch kind and friendly and helpful. Parking not a problem

Delicious green chicken enchiladas plate. The rice and beans are flavorful. The beans are creamy and seasoned. The green sauce is a little bit spicy. So if you're sensitive to spice, just don't order it. The star of the show was the Birria Mulitas. They were huge! These are not the street taco size tortillas. The Birria was tender and moist. The beef just melted on your tongue. The flavors were exceptional in every way. Please don't forget the consommé, because it just adds an extra knockout of flavors when you do the dip. Also, the restaurant is great about additions/substitutions. They have always gotten my order correct. The drinks were phenomenal. We had the pineapple, spinach, lime agua fresca and the lemonade con chia. This is one of our favorite Mexican places to go to, because we know the food is going to be good, fresh, and hot. You're never going to get something different each time you order it. It's going to look and taste the same each and every time. Consistency keeps customers coming back, and this place excels in that area. FYI...I now love their red and green salsas. They are delicious! I was trippin' on my other review.

Great Tacos close to home! I would of have given them 5 stars, they are super cheap on the meat & beans on the sopas don't get those you'll still be hungry. But, order the street tacos they are delicious and they have good choices of salsa. Also, boys are always super friendly, the girls are not so friendly (young girls always have attitudes). But, go get some tacos YUMMY and fast service. We always order for pick up that how we get out tacos. read more

By far one of the best taco shops in the state. This place should be a national treasure. A small mom and pop shop cooking up some of the delicious tacos on the planet. No complaints here this place is really good, flavorful salsa decently priced and very friendly and smiley staff. In a place like San Bernardino there's so many different Mexican food restaurants that you never know what's gonna be good and what's going to suck but this is definitely a place you can trust is gonna deliver quality food for a fair price read more

The girls up front seemed nice I ordered two churros they kind of took awhile and while I was waiting I was trying to ignore the smell it smelt like sewage backup or something and I had to step outside waited another five minutes they were just coming up but I had lost my appetite due to the horrible smell. People were eating inside I couldn't understand how they were doing it with how bad it smelled. I love Mexican food it wasn't the food it smelled like sewage in there. Hopefully they get whatever plumbing problems they are having fixed quickly I surely can't be the only one who smelled it. When I told the girl up front why I wanted to cancel my order she really had no response like she already knew it smelled really bad. I feel bad for the workers having to work in the restaurant while it's like that. read more

So I order from this place a lot through Uber eats and the food is always amazing! Today we went to grab a to go order from the restaurant and the tacos were super skimpy and the sauce they used on the wet burrito was some really hot salsa instead of the normal enchilada sauce, hardly edible. The bean and cheese burrito was as good as it always is, they have amazing beans. We didn't go back to exchange it because we had already waited about 40 mins to get the food in the first place. Yes, I will be back but will only order through the app. read more

This place probably serves my favorite carne asada fries now. What makes them different? It's those crinkle cut fries and the NACHO CHEESE. The combination of those two is divine. I love it so much, with the carne asada, sour cream, guacamole, and red salsa (beans are so included in this item but I asked to skip it). I bought the fries planning to share but I ended up eating the whole thing, it was so damn good! I also bought a mango y limon aguas frescas which was tasty and refreshing. I really liked my meal, and the price was really good! The restaurant is pretty spacious, with a large ordering area and a separate dining area. Staff here is pretty cool and nice as well. This place is also located in a shopping plaza with ample parking. I am planning to get the tacos soon but not without the carne asada fries with the crinkle cut and nacho cheese. Yum! read more

The worst. Plane and simple. Bought a so called bowl of pozole there. 3/4 pieces of chicken the size of my spoon. all hominy and salty water. No love goes into the food. If they closed down tomorrow I would not miss them. Never again. I think 1 stars too many but have to leave something. Wish Highland would do better. We need real Mexican food around here. read more

Food was on the disappointing side, sorry to say. I got the Nachos supreme with asada, and it was very underwhelming. It was conservatively topped. Sorry, you can't call that "supreme" with limited toppings and mediocre amount. The chips were also stale. Then we get to the Macho burrito, which again was underwhelming. The inside of the burrito was watered down with lettuce and pico de Gallo/salsa. I asked for double meat, but not sure if I even got a single serving on that one. When you think "macho" you don't think of lettuce, which this had plenty of. The taste of it was more of like a vegan burrito honestly. Come to think of it, there was hardly any meat on the nachos too. All in all, the food wasnt bad, but item names flat out don't match what they give you. Give it a shot of you're in the area, maybe my standards are too high since I've eaten at so many different places here in SoCal. read more

The onions and green peppers were partially cooked super crunchy... Yuck... I gave a rating of 2 instead of 1 because the hostess who sat us, our server and bus person were pleasant and my white sangria was meh but tolerable... Summary... Will I return to any of these restaurants... that is a solid and hard no! Definitely not worth the money...

I ordered a little bit of almost everything: asada street tacos, a bean and cheese burrito, beans and rice, an asada mulita, an al pastor sope, and a quesabirria. Prices were reasonable, and I spent under $50 for the whole spread. Food came out in about 15 minutes and was packed neatly. The disappointment started once I got home. There was no salsa in the bags, which already put us at a disadvantage. Only then did I realize there's apparently a salsa bar inside along with a small seating area, something you don't see from the front order window. Had I known that, I would've grabbed what we needed before leaving. Then we opened the tacos and realized they came completely plain... no onion, no cilantro, nothing. Just tortillas and meat. Not exactly what I expected. Visually, everything else looked fine, so I was hoping the flavor would make up for it... but it didn't. Everything tasted bland, like the seasoning took the night off. The only thing I halfway enjoyed was the beans and rice, and my family felt the same way. Maybe my expectations were too high based on the crowds I always see, but everything tasted like tortillas, meat, and cheese... and not much else. I'll give them credit for fair pricing and quick service, but that's about it. I really wish the cashier had mentioned that the tacos come plain or pointed me toward the salsa setup. The crunch roll (one step above the most basic roll) tasted like the panko was old (either that or the oil used was terribly old). The eel was decent, and I think the scallops are making my stomach hurt rn. This place has come a long way, and not in a good way. You can tell it's about to shut its doors any day soon. Whoever Mr lee is could give a rats ass about this establishment. Atleast under Mr yu it was running well, inviting and decent enough to be called a restaurant. Clearly the result of greedy/stinginess. Can't tell which is more dominant here but I can tell you this much, I'll never come back.

This thing was loaded with juicy shrimp and flavorful, marinated al pastor pork, mixed with rice, fresh pico de gallo, crisp cabbage, and a sauce that brought it all together. The smoky, slightly spicy al pastor paired with the tender shrimp made every bite pop, and the tortilla held strong despite the generous filling. I went with a Melon Agua Fresca on the side, and it was a perfect match--light, refreshing, and just sweet enough to cool things down after the burrito's bold flavors. The vibe at Juanito's is chill, and the staff were really friendly, which added to the whole experience. If you're in Highland and want a meal that's big on taste and satisfaction, this is the move. Never had a bad meal here. And I've been there probably over 100 times (I live a couple of blocks away). Prices are very reasonable. They did have to remove their seating inside as they do not have a public accessible restroom, so it is take out only these days. I stopped phoning in my orders a couple of years ago when I realized that they only take the order over the phone but don't seem to actually start making it until I show up and pay...so there is no time saved there. If you like chile verde, I highly recommend their chile verde fries or burrito. It is the best I've ever had. read more
