I came by this place after working out this morning. I initially was looking for Jamba Juice because I craved their white gummy smoothie but the nearest one was too far away. Scrolled through Yelp for smoothie options and this was the closest opinion so I had to give it a try. It's located in a big plaza with a bunch of other fast food and restaurants. This one right next to Panda Express. It was not very busy when I came in. Ordered the pitaya sunset with no boost. It is pretty tasty minus the pineapple juice flavor. Never really tried pineapple juice before but definitely not going to again lol. It tasted kinda weird IMO. I stored the drink in refrigerator for a couple hours so it could melt and dissolve a bit which made the pineapple juice flavor a little more flat and not as sweet. Overall tasty drink. I can't believe the rudeness and lack of customer service at this location. Apparently they don't want business. I walked in & waited patiently as I saw all 3 employees were busy with tasks. There being no other customers I assumed I would be greeted soon. No. All 3 made eye contact at some point but kept doing what they were doing, or started something else, but no one said a word to me. Not "be right with you", not "just a minute ", not even "hello". What a disappointment. I drink a lot of smoothies and have started to really love what Jamba Juice offers with its all fruit and veggie smoothies. I was hoping to see something similar here. The menu seems much more limited when trying to omit dairy and sugar. I was told, however, that they can make anything non-dariy by removing the yogurt and adding extra fruit. That's fine. I would have preferred a menu that's more purposeful in its delivery of whole fruit and vegetable options. Where someone sat down and thought of cool ways to make healthy, hearty smoothies with delicious fresh ingredients. Anyway, that's what I imagine in my perfect smoothie world. So, I ordered the Mango Mania and it just tasted awful. No strong fruit flavor here. Instead, the strongest flavor present was freezer burn and yucky ice flavor. You know? I'll pare it down about Juice It Up!, this location in particular. The only benefit of this place is that it's a juice bar. They're an endangered species - evolved into offshoots like the boba bar and the healthy fast-food joint, withered away by the harsh economy, picked off by competitors like coffee joints. That's it. Juice It Up is, as the name implies, full of juice. It's also full of sugar. That's the start of the downside. Not a few of their juices are pre-squeezed and chock full of sucrose. Bring your insulin. Yet for the price you pay, you'd think they harvest the fruits themselves. Juice It Up is not competitive with Jamba Juice, and by the looks of their menu board - displaying several price entries that have been penciled over or covered by bits of white paper sporting higher prices - they feel that's necessary. It's a trend we can expect to continue. The pith of it is, lesser juice for higher price. Throw in some downright lame service, and this place earns its two stars. The kids working the blenders move like severely baked tree sloths. It's not one star because, unlike its competitors, it has a wide variety of juice: Coconut milk, lime sherbet, plenty of pineapple drinks. That's the sole reason I put up with the tree sloths charging me an arm and a leg for over-sugared liquid. read more
