This isn't your typical coffee shop. There's so much thought and care put into everything they do. I love that they change their flavors with the seasons and make their syrups in-house with no artificial flavors. The coffee tastes intentional and handcrafted, and you can really tell the owner is passionate about her craft. She's incredibly friendly, and the baristas are always so sweet and welcoming. I'm traveling from out of town, though I'm originally from California, and decided to check out MAD Coffee because it was relatively close to where I was staying and had a lot of positive reviews. I went in with decent expectations, but unfortunately, I was pretty disappointed. First, the parking situation is awful. If you're lucky, you can find a spot out front. Otherwise, there's a parking lot directly behind the shop that charges around $8 for just 30 minutes, which is pretty ridiculous if you're simply stopping in for coffee. When I walked in, I realized the coffee shop shares its space with a restaurant. That by itself isn't necessarily a bad thing, but the biggest issue was the temperature inside. It was unbelievably hot--basically a sauna. Keep in mind, this is California in the middle of August, and somehow it felt significantly cooler outside than it did inside. The AC appeared to be running, but it made almost no difference. I was literally standing there sweating while waiting for my coffee. It made the whole experience extremely uncomfortable. As for the coffee, I ordered a simple iced latte because I wanted to actually taste the espresso and get an idea of the quality of the beans. Unfortunately, it was very underwhelming. From what I could see, they seem to be better known for their sweeter, fruitier specialty drinks, so maybe that's where they shine. But if you're looking for a straightforward, quality espresso-based drink, my experience wasn't good. On top of that, I paid around $7 for the iced latte, which felt especially steep considering the quality. Between the parking, the uncomfortable heat inside, the price, and the disappointing coffee, I personally wouldn't return or recommend MAD Coffee if you're looking for a great coffee shop experience. This place had been on my list for awhile and finally was able to check it out on Saturday morning. I was stuck between the tiramisu and banana latte but I went with the tiramisu coffee. The coffee was good, it had a great flavor but it definitely didn't taste like tiramisu at all. But again it was good. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 star is because I asked for light ice and the cashier asked if I wanted more milk to compensate. I said forget it, regular ice is fine. I didn't want to mess up the flavor of the coffee. Other than that, I would come back to try their other menu items. read more

Hands down one of my favorite coffee shops from this month!!! Walked in on a Saturday afternoon & several people were studying/hanging out. We were politely greeted by the host, this shop is combined with a pizza shop that also smells sooo delicious! The coffee was exactly as it was described! The coffee is great, the locations however is not. The comments about parking is true. The structures are confusing and the little lot behind is a nightmare. This business has the potential of growing and moving out so hopefully they do. However, the coffee and matcha taste amazing! Buttttt, I paid for a large and my cup looks like a small/regular. Ugh, I should've listen to you all about the parking. I did a 40min RT to come here because I saw the business responded that they validate parking. So I thought wonderful. I have actually been here before and the place seemed great for a study/work session. They did validate my parking back then, and I had parked across the street. This time though, both of the parkings had an electronic system. One that requires you to create an account, to register your name, your car lic plate and your credit card. I have no issue with name and lic plate for parking but I do have an issue having to log my credit card on a system that I won't often use. Apple pay was not an option. So I was unable to actually get any work done here because I couldn't find parking. If you don't mind putting your credit card into a parking online system go for it. I don't know how they would validate that though. read more

I parked in a lot across the street which said $1.25 for the first 15 min, I left within 15 min and it didn't charge me so I'm not quite sure how that works. A coffee shop with free parking and endless seating? I'm not Mad about it. I met some coworkers for an afternoon work sesh at this adorable coffee shop in Santa Ana. Originally I was worried about parking since it's located inside of a biz complex, but Mad Coffee has got you covered. They offer free daily validation, allowing you to visit, sip your coffee, and go to town on whichever work task you've been avoiding. I was able to sample a number of their items, including their banana latte, birthday cake latte, and a hot honey pizza with chicken. Each item was superb. It was ok.. Apple Maps takes you to the parking lot which is technically a courtyard Marriott parking lot. It's located inside of an office building, which means it's not super straightforward to get to on a weekend. There are 3 lines when you get to the entrance, one for Rafael's, one for the self service kiosk, and one for the cafe register. I ordered through the self service kiosk I waited at least 25 minutes for my matcha and an americano on a Sunday at 10:30 although there were 4 workers behind the bar making drinks. I received a text that my order was ready ~10 mins after ordering but nothing was ready. Walking in, the barista was super friendly! She explained to us where to park in the future and provided some honest recommendations on some items. Location is a little tricky because the GPS will lead you to the opposite side of the building. If you pull up and don't see it, drive to the other side. There's a sign with coffee shop the name. Tried the pumpkin spice latte and it wasn't my favorite. The cold foam was really thick; it was a little too sweet and had almost a sour taste. Carrot cake latte (half sweet) was delicious, 10/10!! Wow - I can see why it was on the Spring menu AND continuing into the Fall menu. Unfortunately the almond croissant latte was a total miss. It's more of a basic "almond latte" than anything special, very underwhelming to be honest. Not sure where the croissant in the name comes into play. i've heard a lot about mad and wanted to try it ! i didn't realize how close it was to costa mesa, its closer to costa mesa than it is santa ana. parking is chill, they have a qr code you can scan once you order inside. but this is your typical aesthetic drink spot. we ordered the seasonal mango coconut matcha and the banana matcha because it's my duty to try every banana matcha haha. the mango one was def my favorite. the coconut foam is insane, i'd honestly take that foam w any drink. the banana one was good, i've had better but it was good. your classic banana puree. both matchas were perfect as is - no modifications needed for sweetener , their matcha is pretty strong too so the sugar was a nice balance. because the banana had less going on, i could really taste how strong the matcha was. oh, we also ordered our drink w 2% milk. definitely want to go back to try the others! read more

Before I leave a review for a coffee shop, I like to try at least five different lattes, and every single one I've had from Mad Coffee has been delicious. The Teddy Graham Latte, Churro Latte, Blueberry Pancake Latte, Cairo Latte (my absolute favorite), and Carrot Cake Latte were all amazing. Honestly, I think I finished each one within 10 minutes. The inside is super cute, and they also have great pastries. They're connected to Rafael's Kitchen and tucked away between corporate buildings, making them feel like a hidden gem. Every time I've gone in, everyone has been so friendly, and they make the drinks incredibly fast, even when they're busy.
