I have heard how great people think Julep is and it did not disappoint. We chose to sit outside, which is in a parking lot, but not their fault and our choice. It was pleasant and they did a great job making it feel comfortable and helping you forget where you were sitting. Our server was a very pleasant lady who was a true professional server. We had some specific requests and she not only took time to listen but made sure they were all met. The food was delivered, hot and well plated with portions that were oversized (in my opinion). Brunch on Sunday. We were a group of 10 . They were very patience and hospitable. We had the crab soup which was nice and thick . The dry rib wings which are spicy with a nice sweet undertone . My bf had the banana French toast which might I say for a person who does not like bananas it was amazing. Mickey fine not too sweet and syrup was not need although provided. I had the hungover omelette with biscuit. That omelette was extremely filling . That too nicely done and flavorful . First time dining here but we weren't impressed. However, I see my fellow Elite Yelpers enjoyed it. The service wasn't that good. It took about 10 mins for us to even be acknowledged. The remoulade for the tomatoes was salty. We requested no goat cheese for the Brussels sprouts but they included it anyway. I'm not sure why it's called a southern kitchen, just because you serve collard greens and label entrees with "Texas" doesn't mean you're southern. I lived in the state of Texas and my family hails from Louisiana and that food missed the mark for down home southern cuisine. Customer service wasn't great and the service was slow, maybe we picked the wrong day and waiter. Not to mentioned, they gave me a to go cup for my Cream of Crab with Corn soup with no bag. I ended up giving it to my mom and she thought it was delicious. The drink (Cucumber cocktail) that I ordered was tasty and refreshing. ORDER THE WINGS. Just do it. Have been visiting/ordering from Julep since they opened last summer and have had nothing but great experiences. I've ordered the dry rubbed hot wings every time because they are THAT good. Servers are always friendly and helpful, food is served efficiently and even when the restaurant is packed, we've never had to wait long to be seated. We came here from the smells of being nearby at the Home Depot and we made a good choice for a Sunday brunch. We came around 1230p, which after calling earlier in the week, we were told towards end of brunch is best to avoid waiting time and we luckily had none! I really enjoyed the food here. I had the cream of crab soup, wings, and blackberry thighs with collard greens and hush puppies. Everything tasted great. My only complaint was our waiter. He brought us our drinks and we didn't see him again for another 10 minutes. After we ordered this pattern continued. It was very strange because we would see other wait staff pass our table multiple times so we wondered where he was. So we started having to ask other wait staff to get us things. Inventive, Delicious, Huge Portions & Fall Apart Ribs & Generous & Sweet Owners. Best wings I have ever had. This is as fresh as you can get from the meat to the veggies... There is no frozen here. The beet salad (my favorite salad ever) is awesome especially because you can add smoked meats. The ribs fall off the bone and are tender. The thighs are massive. The brisket rocks as does the chicken. The best part is that you will definitely have leftovers (and I am not a fan of leftovers unless they're stellar). I just thought the ambiance was blah. It didn't have a southern feel to me. The food was okay. I had the jambalaya and I thought there will be actual crayfish and mussels with the shells. Julep! Where do I start?! Deeeee-licious food! My co-worker and I visited for Sunday Brunch. Brunch items and some dinner/lunch entrees are available from 10-2 which is great if you can't decide between a savory or sweet breakfast/lunch item. The drink menu is very extensive with many options to choose from. I ordered the Naptown punch, a sweet and fruity addition to my meal. My coworker ordered the bloody mary which was delicious, with a hint of spice. For starters I ordered the homemade biscuits- huge, fluffy and moist. Served with the honey butter and pepper jelly. The fried green tomatoes- I love the fried shrimp on top of these! Great combination. Southern egg rolls- I was skeptical about these..but I was not disappointed! The egg roll was crunchy on the outside, and cheesy and smokey from the pulled pork on the inside. As an entree I had the chicken and waffles- I was excited about the fried, smoked chicken. For $20 you get 4 pieces of juicy chicken on top of a nice sized Belgian waffle. Well worth the money! The waffle is not a sweet waffle, so the meal is very savory overall until the addition of the maple syrup. Jade, our waitress was very sweet! We enjoyed everything! This place went above and beyond my expectations for a southern joint in a strip mall! The decor is cheesy, like a converted souplanation, but the food is quality! Everything had here by members of my part was fantastic! Highlights for me were the "fried" chicken and collard greens that are flavored with chicken and not pork - as a Jew observing passover at the time (no flour, no pork) I thought I wouldn't be able to eat anything here but I could and it was FANTASTIC. I would return for that chicken in a heartbeat! And the serving was huge! You get two sides and a half chicken for $16!! Also those yams were so sweet and yummy. The brisket was okay, a bit dry for my tastes and the price. One downside to this place and why I only gave it four stars; Our server refused to serve me alcohol because I had a vertical ID (I am a CA resident and even after we turn 21, we keep our vertical IDs until they expire). So, despite the fact that I am 24 and my ID says the very day I was born - I was not allowed to order a cider. That made me sad. So warning - if you've got a vertical ID, you can't drink here. read more

My Sister had the brisket and greens and Mac and cheese Her Friend had the fried ribs and I had the chicken sandwich with shrimp and fried green tomatoes. All I can say is great food with great service. My wife and I went today during brunch. Everything went great start to finish. I personally ordered wing "naked" they came out hot and tasted great. My wife ordered chicken fried steak and she said was amazing. For drinks we had "naptown punch, smoked old fashioned and a smoked anejo 1800" all the drinks were on point. Our bartender was Ian(my apologies if spelling was incorrect) you could tell he was passionate about his craft. We stopped in for lunch today! I have been looking at this place which opened right before the COVID shut down. And today was the day that we tried it!!!! I am so glad we did!!!! It was SIMPLY DELICIOUS!!!! The staff was friendly and the space is a perfect environment for southern comfort food! While we were there the owner approached us and introduced himself. He is Very kind and community minded...this is a huge plus for restaurateurs. We had a great conversation and honestly...that is enough to bring people back!! But OH NO....Julep is the real deal!! The food was SO GOOD!!! We had the Jambalaya which was delicious!! The BIG STARS OF THE DAY WERE.... The southern chicken salad was just AMAZING!! It was greens with blueberries, strawberries, and crumbled blue cheese. Is was finished with a little red onion and a homemade strawberry vinaigrette which was sublime!! The chicken was smoked and then pulled! I know I am raving about a salad but...it is about the balance of flavors....and this hit all of the right notes!! We also ordered a side of greens. We love collard greens and often order a side when available. I NEED TO TELL YOU....these are the BEST greens. Just the best I EVER ATE!!!! They are life changing!!!
