i tried julie's for the first time and was overwhelmed by the number of vegan italian options, it was heaven! i tried the fiesty buffalo pizza, and i couldn't get enough! the cashew sauce was delectable, and the buffalo had a nice kick of spice. the tempura cauliflower had a nice bite to it and wasn't too greasy or soft. the greens added a nice freshness to it so it didn't feel as heavy either. will be ordering again! there is one large table to dine-in, but seems like most people grab and go here. staff is so friendly and helpful! i can't wait to come back and try more :) read more

Julie Goes Green is an all-vegan Italian restaurant, so naturally I was excited to give it a try. We started with the Buffalo Cauliflower, and in my opinion, it was the star of the show. If you served this to a non-vegan, they might have a hard time believing it was actually cauliflower. It was absolutely delicious, and the texture was phenomenal. We also ordered a side of fries, which unfortunately fell a little flat. They were undercooked and lacked seasoning, so they didn't leave much of an impression. For my entrée, I had the Pepperoni Pizza. Overall, I enjoyed it, but the biggest drawback was that it was very salty. If they toned that down a bit, it would have been a winner. My husband ordered the Shrimp Scampi. The vegan shrimp was impressive from a texture standpoint--it was tender and even had that familiar "snap" you get from real shrimp--but it wasn't quite for me. The pasta itself was a bit underwhelming and could have used more flavor. Overall, I'd absolutely give Julie Goes Green another shot, and I would 100% order the Buffalo Cauliflower again. One final bonus: parking was easy, with a lot available for pickup orders. Just keep in mind that seating inside is fairly limited, so this is a great option if you're planning to order to-go. read more

I will begin by qualifying my review that I'm generally not a fan of Italian cuisine except for pizza. However, Julie goes green breaks the mold for me. Highly recommend their pesto pasta because it's a comforting, flavorful, and just right oily dish that satisfies a vegan's craving for pesto. They offer GF sweet potato glass noodles which is always nice to see an option in an Italian restaurant. Their pizza crust was perfectly light but still doughy pillowy crust that you can savor. In our group of friends, there was a lot of praise for the fettuccini Alfredo dish and calamari appetizer too. The service was courteous and kind. Would return and recommend for anyone looking for an Italian vegan meal. read more

Julie is amazing! I'm so happy that when we popped in on a weeknight, Julie herself was operating the shop and was so happy to help us out and feed us some great vegan Italian food. She had mentioned her spot had been operating for years as a regular Italian spot, but went vegan recently... and I have to say, that's such a commendable thing in this day and age (to save our climate, introduce more folks to yummy vegan food, etc.)! Julie makes her vegan Italian food GOOD. A shrimp scampi with vegan shrimp? Breaded vegan chicken? Pink sauce with mushroom pasta?! Fried mushrooms appetizer that are some of the best breaded mushrooms I've had, with a generous portion to boot! I'd be happy to support Julie and her business again. If you like a bunch of fried faux meats then you will enjoy but I had a salad that was so cold it hurt my teeth and while the fried shrimp was ok - it's just fried fake meat- a waste of calories and no special flavor ;( ... They have the most delicious vegan fried chicken I've ever eaten! Prior to eating this, my favorite vegan fried chicken was at Doomie's in Hollywood. Julie Goes Green is even better! My meal was a little underwhelming, which is why I feel they deserve 4 stars. But I'll break down what I do and don't like: Pros-I love the idea of a vegan place that has a lot of options! They have great choices that look delicious. They are very friendly there. It's in a convenient location with easy access free parking, which is sparse in this city. It was easy to order online. There was hardly a wait for everything to be done. Cons-The chicken piccata had phenomenal flavor, but the "chicken" was very chewy, like eating a rubber tire, so unfortunately that dish made it to the con list. Their bathroom was a little odd, having to walk through the kitchen to get there, which is a minor con, though I am very grateful they did have one for me to use. I didn't know what expect when we stopped by for lunch. It's a cute little place with very little seating so I see it as more of a take out place. The menu was surprising, a lot of Italian dishes & and fried dishes with just a few salad items. There is a California bowl which one of us ordered and it was pretty tasty but super simple ingredients. I had the minestrone soup and the eggplant parm sandwich. Both were good and filling. I would like to try some other items next time I'm in the neighborhood. The service was good and food didn't take too long. For me, it's not a destination level vegan restaurant at this point. I would say try it for comfort foods that are not usually vegan, but don't expect it to be super healthy. This is a phenomenal discovery for vegans! I can't say enough about how just about every dish you can order will blow your socks off! Even the seemingly ordinary dishes surpassed my expectations. We came here twice while we stayed in LA, one for take out and one for dine in. We ordered the Fettuccine Alfredo, Angel Hair Pasta, Zoe's Pink Sauce with Mushrooms and Penne pasta, Eggplant and Chicken Parmigiana and they all were super delicious and tasted like the real thing, everything down to the texture, flavor and restored my faith in enjoying real vegan Italian food! I am not even a vegan & the food is delicious. I had the BBQ cauliflower and it was amazing!!! The bbq sauce was soooo good & my friend had some type of pasta with mushrooms that was just as yummy & fresh watermelon juice. Also I never had vegan dressing and it was soooo goood better than actual ranch dress made with dairy! One more thing the 2nd try we didn't get a pic but it was fried calamari made with I think coconut trust me it's not what you thing full of flavor as well! Everything fresh and not greasy! Healthy! We ordered the California Sunshine Pizza which seemed to be the most popular pizza, and the garlic bread that came with warm marinara sauce. 4/5 Garlic bread - moist and pillowy but quite salty. the salt brought out the sweetness of the marinara sauce, but it could've been less salty. 4/5 California pizza - huge (we ordered the larger size) in terms of height! this pizza is really LOADED with veggies and goodness. the pesto and cashew base is delicious. There was basically an entire salad on top of the pizza, which made it pretty difficult to eat so be prepared with plates and maybe even a fork! Definitely a healthier alternative to your typical pizza. Flavor-wise, the pesto and cashew carried the flavoring, and the salad/tomato/avocado just seemed like eating salad with pizza in the same bite. Tried this place with Uber Pickup and the food wasn't available when it said it would be, but upon arrival there seemed to only be 2-3 people working on lunch rush so it was understandable. Staff was friendly which I appreciated. I would love to come back and try other dishes; though it is slightly pricey, you can taste the freshness of the ingredients! Ah what an amazing dinner at Julie's! Walking in, there is only one main dinner table with vibes of the last supper which seats maybe only 10-12 people. My friends and I decided to eat in as we were on the way to the airport and it was empty inside. Most of their orders seemed to be to-go. We were sat and attended to quickly. The service here is outstanding. The fried mushroom appetizer came out first, very steamy and great texture between the crunch and creamy mushrooms. These are amazing and I would highly recommend. I ordered the chicken piccata, it came out maybe 10 minutes after my friends got their entrees. My plate was beautiful, great portion of food, and a memorable pasta. The zesty and creaminess was very flavorful, the capers were a great touch and I do wish the "protein" was cut up prior to serving as it was pretty awkward to eat without a knife. Overall I think we all enjoyed our meals, and would recommend to anyone wanting a great dinner minus the meat! We would for sure come back for more! read more

I most of the time have the Garden Salad pizza and the barbeque Cauliflower. It does not mater to me about Vegan or not. I am not into labels, I like food, and they are up there!!! I guess she would make any way you like, I did not try because I already like the way she makes it. The food is fresh and made at your order, I would give it a Ten if there was such a thing. I do not compare chicken wings with chicken breasts, i like both, one is soft the other is chewie. I do not compare barbeque pork with barbeque. cauliflower, as I do not compare "plant" food with "meat food" I like both and I understand the distinction, and expect both to taste good!!! Do not go there to order a Rack of Lamb Italian style. There are some very good Italian restaurants in this city, and I do not like everything in their menu, some in fact, I asked them to remove some things from their menu. I'm not from Cali and I'm not Vegan. However, I do have a condition that makes me "allergic" to meat. As a carnivore, I have tried a vegan diet - Going vegan is ok, and I felt great on the diet. There are plenty of health reasons to maintain a plant-based diet but growing up with steaks, burgers, fried chicken, BBQ, fast food makes it hard to give up foods that bring back so many memories -- and then there are the cravings. But NOW!! Julie changes the meat game!! I was visiting LA with my vegetarian friend for a conference. I did a quick Google search for vegetarian restaurant choices. Several came up but JULIE GOES GREEN was in the immediate area. So we decided to come try. And what great luck. We order the the "Meat Lovers" Pizza and the Fried Mushrooms. First, I never NEVER EVER had better Fried Mushrooms. The batter was cornmeal-esque -- thick and crunchy, as well as delightfully seasoned. The mushrooms were large, plump, moist, and juicy. Each mushroom took me two bites, minimum without stuffing my face. Secondly, the Vegan "Meat Lovers" Pizza was whuuut the heck?? Bacon, Ham, Chicken, Sausage, and Pepperoni with Vegan cheese and sauce. If eaten as a unit (meaning don't pick the pieces off the pie), I would have been fooled, had no one told me it was Vegan. I think that not only is the meat lovers pizza a good simulant - it has a slight nuance that gives it an identity of its own. I was so impressed that, during my trip, I came back a second time. While I am a firm believer of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it", I wanted to try other menu items as well. Knowing that I may not be able to come back again, I ordered way too much food: Meatball Sub, Roasted Veggie and Avocado salad, Fettuccini Alfredo. I spent a pretty penny for lunch but it was worth it. The meatball sub was delicious. Again, if no one told me, I would not have suspected anything - the meatballs were maybe a little drier than regular Italian meatballs but the texture, flavor, color, spices were all on point. The salad was a meal to itself - highly recommend. The Fettuccine Alfredo is so good and because it's not ladened in butter and oils, the dish isn't heavy on the stomach afterwards -- I would prefer this over the real thing because it is THAT close in taste, texture, and flavor. Post-pandemic has hit many small restaurants and businesses quite hard - and it seems that JGG has one primary worker who is at times, seems a little stressed keeping up with the orders that come through the delivery services, takeout, and pick up. Despite multitasking and the workload, I thought he was quite friendly and willing to serve and accommodate my dine-in order. Props to the dedication of the staff. I met Julie, the proprietor, and she was friendly and thankful for my business.
