What we ordered: + Chaga chai: Basically hot coffee with chai but much stronger earthy taste with the turmeric. A good spin on the usual and oat milk optional if you find it too strong. + Crispy mushroom hand roll: 1 each and this was a bit hard to eat without making a mess on your hands. If you like crunchy mushrooms, this is nice but a pass for me. + Spicy salmon hand roll: This is a fun one where you make your own hand roll. Came back this winter (December) because I was craving my eggplant Nigiri and I come back to a brand new menu!! So I had my non negotiables, the eggplant nigiri, thousand layer potatoes, but holy moly!!! The Japanese steak!! This restaurant had a nice, elegant vibe. The interior decor was simple, spacious, and modern. The waitress I had was friendly. The cucumber mule mocktail I had was delicious and refreshing. Unfortunately, when it came to the food, I made a mistake. I missed the fact that mushrooms were listed as an ingredient on the gyoza and mushrooms got to be one of my least favorite foods lol. The gyoza didn't just have a few mushrooms in them--the filling was like 90% mushroom. This was very sad because the surrounding seasoning was quite good, but I just could not finish the plate due to my hatred of mushroom. My fault. Let me start off saying, I am not a vegan. However, I saw this place and my friends is vegan and I wanted to treat her out to some sushi. The food was amazing! The oyster mushrooms could have been fried in a batter to give a better texture. The waffle was similar to a cornbread texture. I am still in awe of last night's dinner at Planta Brentwood. Not only is Planta absolutely stunning and perfectly set up, it is one of the best dinner's I've had in a very long time - and this is coming from someone who is not vegan. Everything we ordered was insanely delicious. The sushi rolls were AMAZING! I especially loved the crispy rice, which beats any real spicy tuna crispy rice I've ever had. The dragon roll was also amazing with a great crunch! I am still dreaming of the 1000 layer crispy potatoes. The crunch on the outside yet the softness on the inside was heavenly. It's so special to find a place that serves vegetarian/vegan food and its delicious! I love being able to sit outdoors, while the inside looks very nice as well. The service was friendly and casual as well, checked with us regularly to get feedback on dishes. For happy hour we ordered the cauliflower wings and they were delightfully crispy and fun. Came here for HH on a Thursday around 5:30 pm. There was plenty of seating. We ordered the rosarita (my favorite) and lychee pomona spritz (my partner's favorite). Service was rather slow (our drinks came out halfway through dinner) but very accommodating (they took the drinks off our tab without asking). For food, we got the spicy crab and spicy tuna hand rolls (3 for $12), Nashville hot tofu bao ($8), chick'n fried mushrooms ($7), and firecracker wings ($8). I felt like the food was hit or miss. Vegan oasis, Planta, is a must-try for vegan foodies! However, I think even non-vegan foodies would like this place. Everything I've tasted on the menu has been delightful. Brentwood is one of the newest incarnations of this upscale vegan dining chain. The other closest restaurant being in Marina Del Rey. Each Planta location features a different fusion on the menu of Japanese inspired food. The Brentwood location has an Italian theme so there's pizza and pasta as well as lots of vegan sushi to choose from. Love it. They also have a fully stocked bar with a gorgeous aesthetic. It's a beautiful, serene setting. Everything on the menu has been delicious. I've been here a few times and tried the bao sliders, torch and press sushi, 1000 layer potatoes, stuffed mushrooms, and brownie sundae on the regular menu. I also very much enjoyed the mango crunch rolls, baked cauliflower, and coconut cake off the special January menu. Yum, yum, yum. Everything was so good. Sushi was delicious. The entrees were amazing. Desserts were tasty and moist. I liked that we did tapas when I came here as it's fun to try the different dishes. DETAILED REVIEW OF EACH DISH HERE Torched and pressed sushi was savory and honestly the flavor was so good that I forgot to add soy sauce and didn't mind it one bit. I also love that it came with ginger and wasabi. The mango crunch roll was really special. I would love if it was added to the regular menu (January special). I loved the sweet mango paired with the salty nuts. So satisfying and refreshing. When it comes to appetizers the bao sliders were tasty. Loved the crunchy mushrooms paired with hoisin sauce with a soft bun. Do note that they only come as one per order. The 1000 layer potatoes were my favorite item out of all the tapas we tried. The layered potatoes were buttery soft and had a really cool texture. I love that they come with vegan sour cream and caviar. So tasty as well as pretty! The stuffed mushrooms were stuffed with spinach artichoke dip. You can't really go wrong there. The January special baked cauliflower was topped with tahini and pomegranates. I love Mediterranean flavors! The eggplant rollatini was my favorite of the entree dishes. The eggplant was cooked perfectly and was soft and melted in my mouth. The sauce was also excellent but a bit spicy. I would have liked it paired with a slice of bread to tone down the spiciness and to sop up the extra sauce. The special coconut cake was so special. It was like a sponge cake and had a really great sauce with mangos and ice cream. Would love to see that on the regular menu. The brownie was also delicious and moist. This location is like the marinas little sister. The space is smaller and super cozy/intimate. The service is 12/10. Everyone is so kind and incredibly attentive. Just went back to Planta last night for the AYCE "sushi" with my husband and a friend. My husband was so skeptical and he ended up loving it! We ordered an embarrassing amount of food - maybe like 11?? Rolls?! For 3 people! But it was such a good deal and so delicious. We wanted to keep eating but we were so full! They added 3 additional rolls to the menu since I last came. Everything is sooo good and it was popping for a Monday night. First off, I loved the Planta in NYC so had high expectations but I know this place just opened so maybe still trying to find their footing so more hit or miss. Started with the Lych Please gin cocktail and it was wayyyy too sweet. Usually I'm a fan of sweet drinks but it was too much for me. Started with the unagi eggplant which has amazing umami flavor. I barely added any soy sauce and think it could even have gone without. The wasabi was really light and fresh tasting too! Then the 1,000 layer potato with kelp caviar. The flavor was really delicate and not very memorable but the texture was nice and flaky almost like puff pastry. It bothered me that the layers were horizontal for some but vertical for other pieces. I mean there's only 4 pieces. Not a must have. The bang bang broccoli was like tempura on crack with a delicious sweet chili but salty and nutty sauce. This was the highlight. The lettuce wraps were mostly enjoyable but the brussels sprouts were way too salty. It overwhelmed the flavor of everything else. Server was very friendly and attentive though! Looking for the Best Vegan in LA? So many choices! Planta gave us a good time and nice experience. 1 - Splendid Decor and ambiance! Look at this entry way - wow! 2 - The view from the patio dining area is worth the visit! 3 - On to the Main Attraction!! Overall, a nice meal which was wonderfully prepared and presented. Our waitress was over the top friendly and attentive. We chatted with a couple next to us, their cute dog was there under the table on his blanket, very nice and thoughtful. Lovely weather, stayed at a local hotel and the walk was short and fun. Great experience, and everyone should give it a try! PLANTA has been on my list since it opened and I'm happy I finally visited. I dined in a group of 4 and made reservations via OpenTable just in case. Parking is $18 for 2 hours if you don't validate. Make sure you validate before exiting the restaurant! We sat outside and had a view of the marina and the walking path. It was gorgeous out and beautiful. Our waiter was very nice. We enjoyed everything we tried (see pics). The chilaquiles with the Yo Egg were a favorite. I'm happy they have chaga lattes. I would highly recommend vegans and non-vegans try PLANTA. We had such an unfortunate experience at this place. We sat at the bar for happy hour and my friend got the tiniest "martini" of all time that tasted like just juice. When I arrived I got also a very small glass of wine that was half filled and tasted like cheap dessert wine. The bartenders could use a lesson on how to make tips- people enjoying themselves usually buy more and this was just not a good time. I picked the place and my friend was like well we won't be back here. The female bartender looks like she'd rather be peeling paint off the walls then here once the male bartender arrived he said how happy it made him to see people at the bar that it is always empty - when we paid and left a good tip we mentioned a little input gently... Not a happening spot and the worst drinks - we each dropped $40 and left feeling more sober than when we arrived. Ps: other reviews have also mentioned drinks that taste like no alcohol is in them. This location has way more options with various items, which is a PLUS! Only down side is that it's smaller so, a wait for a table may be a thing. We sat at the bar and Josh our bartender really took care of us. I hope he sees this review lol bc he was real cool. As a vegetarian/vegan, my best friend decided to take me to Planta for my birthday. We had seen a lot of hype on Instagram and we'd been really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, our waitress made us feel very uncomfortable and unwanted in the environment. As two ethnic women, we knew Brentwood was not going to be the most friendly but we expected more from a place where we spent so much. We walked in and were greeted in a very friendly manner, but it wasn't until we sat down that we were struck with the utter contrast of energy. Our waitress skipped over introducing herself and asking about us, and immediately asked us for our drinks in a disinterested manner. It was then that we started to feel a little rushed. We had set a reservation for 9:15pm and came in a little earlier than that, knowing they closed at 10pm. If the reservation time was an issue, I am confused as to why there were reservation times as late as 9:30pm offered. As I was trying to place my drink order, the waitress interrupted me to tell me I should put my order in soon. We thought, "Maybe the waitress will attend to us quickly if she really wants to rush us out of here," but after she took our orders, she completely stopped attending to us. Instead of checking in on us, she washed dishes and brought food out so late, that we genuinely felt rushed to finish before 10pm. We had to ask her for water refills two times before deciding to ask another employee who helped us immediately. At the end of our meal, the waitress returned and dropped the check in front of my best friend without saying anything. Oh happy birthday!" Was skeptical since I am a heavy meat eater but left very very impressed! Super cute on the inside, felt very comfortable. The staff was great, checked in on us regularly and met all our request! TORCHED & PRESSED 9.4/10 (avocado, miso truffle glaze) - delicious but it was just avocado, rice and truffle so nothing too crazy. It was made super well, high quality. CRISPY RICE 10/10 (spicy ahi watermelon, avocado) - To preface I hate watermelon but this had me fooled. Wouldn't say it tasted exactly like tuna but it was very sweet and refreshing. Had similar texture to tuna 1,000 LAYER CRISPY POTATOES 8.9/10(caviar, sour cream, chives) - crispy pieces of perfection. QUESO FUNDIDO 9/10(cashew mozzarella, salsa macha, crudite, tortilla chips) - tasted so much like queso UDON NOODLES 9.4/10(truffle mushroom cream) - very good, broth was creamy. AHI WATERMELON TOSTADA 8.9/10 (avocado, slaw, cilantro) - had very strong hits of wasabi. Would've liked more watermelon. DRAGON ROLL 6.5/10(tempura broccoli, spinach, avocado, spicy unagi sauce) - the broccoli taste wasnt hidden like the other fruits/veggies MAITAKE MUSHROOMS 7.5/10 (ancho bbq sauce, chimichurri) - Loved the chimichurri but it was just a fried mushroom so rating reflects that Pesto 9.5/10 (Can't find on menu :/) - Amazing sauce, had a collection of different mushrooms BIG COOKIE 7/10(add a scoop of ice cream) - could totally tell it was vegan but that doesn't make it bad just use to the real thing HORCHATA CHEESECAKE 7.7/10(seasonal compote, cinnamon sugar) - could pass for cheesecake. This is a beautiful space, you feel special just walking in the door! Their happy hour is the best I've been to in a very long time. So much to choose from. I loved the lettuce wraps! We ordered a few items and everything was super tasty. Unfortunately they use cheap oil in the fryer so I couldn't get some of the other things I wanted. I set higher standards and will not allow the GMO highly inflammatory oils in my body. The first step for the restaurant is to use a non GMO oil at least. Non GMO rice bran oil is what Erewhon uses. There are even better oils but I'd be happy with this. Hoping this will happen soon because I really love this place! read more

Today is my wife's birthday, so I took her to a sister restaurant that I've evaluated in Marina Del Rey. The menu is slightly different, but instead of a marina as the backdrop, it was San Vicente , a "happening" place in Los Angeles. The food was really similar, with some new entrees that were delicious. The ambiance is very comforting with a modern decor and nice little bar in the center of the restaurant. Service was excellent and timed just right, although my entree came out before the appetizers, as they want the patron to have the best experience with the freshness of the food. It's remarkable that the chef can make vegetables, fruits and nuts taste so good together. I'm a fan of vegan foods and hope to get better at finding special vegan restaurants in Los Angeles. read more
