Making an update from last review a few years ago when this place opened. I used to go to the Julio's on the Far East side, so was expecting something similar. But like any new business opening, there are a lot of challenges as well as getting the staff trained. My first visit was not good at all. But since then I gave this place a few more tries and the food has been much better. Then service is also good as well. So I have upped my rating from before. read more

Food was ok. Service was slow considering how many people were running around. Picked our meal, menu online and in restaurant says choice of soup or salad. Soup gets picked, brought out, and ate, thinking it was included in the meals price. Check comes back showing the two meals, plus $22 soup. We ask the waiter and he just says oh sorry that soup wasnt included in the choices, but didnt tell us when ordering. Waiter asked the manager and since we ate the soup, thinking it was included, it was going to still be charged full price. Hopefully the waiters learn their menus and what is included in what options. read more

My Friend and I went to Julios for lunch. There were only three other tables being served. We waited for a server that never went to our table. So we got up and left. On the way out, the 4 employees chatting at the hostess booth THANKED US. I was angry and told them we had never been served and they just looked at us. Not one word. Not an apology. Nothing. This is a great place for weekend brunch if you have hungry grown nephews! I brought my nephew, Anthony, and my neighbor's nephew who was also visiting Rl Paso at the same time, here for brunch. It was a hit. They have a great buffet for a very affordable price and it has all the Mexican favorites on there, as well as traditional American breakfast items. Omelettes are included and made to order. Oh and the sweet breads and the coffee with the cinnamon!!! read more

Well today was a rediscovery of a classic. The restaurant was half deserted, empty with plenty of seats available. No waiting, not one single line. But a willing and welcoming host who so happy to show us our table. The lunch menu was simple full of classics. I went for the Caldo de Res which was so delightfully prepared. Fresh carrots and great broth. A delicate common Mexican dish so perfectly executed and right for this cold morning. Service was attentive, very prompt and friendly. read more

My first time ever, so expensive the worst service , plates were dirty and wet.. don't let the fool you in the pictures you see on Buffett.. false advertisement the chilaquiles were cold . Food was disgusting.. not to mention that there were no meats for the eggs and the picture show sausage, bacon and red beef pork. Nothing. Julio's is a somewhat fancy restaurant with the biggest surprise when you actually find food with good taste. I've been to this restaurant multiple times and every time I'm left wanting more. The atmosphere is nice but feels kind of jammed for a place I've never seen fully packed. The food no matter what I get is usually bland. The bottomless mimosas I got last time tasted like complete orange juice but I won't complain about endless orange juice (lol). Overall, I hope this restaurant will improve because it's in the new shopping district that I feel like makes that whole place just fall flat. read more

I've been living here across the border to Mexico's Juarez in the city of El Paso for 2.5 years now and I know what is good Mexican food and what is not. When we're able to go and eat there, we have amazing service and delicious food. But this has become more and more difficult with our schedules, so we typically place orders for pick up. However, it never fails. Every single time we're missing something in the order. We dont even call anymore to let them know since we're too tired to return for it. So, buckle up this one is a doozy. I'll start by saying we loveD this place for the last year - we've always had great service, been seated fairly quick, the food is great. Until tonight. Our server came by fifteen minutes after we were seated, which is fine we were a large table. We had asked the hostess though to send him our way so we could get our kids orders in at least. We ordered drinks - two of them didn't belong to us. One of those drinks, inside of a kids cup that he gave our eight year old, was TEQUILA! She handed it to us saying her lemonade tasted funny, thank god it didn't go to our two year old who probably still would have drank it. We know it wasn't the servers fault - but what a HUGE oversight to put alcohol in a kids cup, and then to just say "sorry". That could've been have been so bad. Our friends food looked great - but swear to god, it had a whole damn chicken bone in the enchilada. Like whatever the hell version of a femur is in the chicken was up in there. Our gauc came out after an hour. The poor waiter came by but a few times for refills - he seemed stressed, to be honest they seemed way understaffed so we don't hold it too much against him ... But it ranks among some of the worst service I've ever got. We were there for just over two hours from start to finish, because of how long it took to order and food to come and to even get his attention to get the check. They get one star no matter what though for serving alcohol to a minor. Yikes. read more

My wife and I started going there since it is very close to our home. Not the best mexican food but it was ok due to convenience. The last three times we've been there, the food has considerably gone downhill, the portions are smaller and prices are a little higher. The worst part is the service is horrible now. Ice tea with no ice, dirty silverware, take too long to get mediocre food. I wonder if they changed cooks or general manager or...not sure what happened but I think it's time to look for a new spot. read more

Another restaurant hard to review in a complete way due to my alimentary regime downsizing the options for me. But who can say no to a cold dessert to accompany a good conversation with family. I had never tried one of these before in my life, even if you find that hard to believe, but as soon as that delicious ice cream laid between my tongue and my palate an instant connection was form. To top it all off, both figuratively and literally, a crisp sopaipilla just hugging all the flavors together. So, I wish I could say more about the place besides the fact that the interior was very well structured with the selection of colors and decoration but I can't vouch for the rest of the food. Julio's on the Westside. My sister in law was in town and my mother-in-law wanted to take the girls to get margaritas at her favorite place. We arrived after the lunch crowd at 1:30 and it was still busy. I put in my name and told them it was 5 adults 1 child, yet we had a surprise child show up since he wasn't in school, so I amended the total and they were very strict with seating, giving away our table to accommodate one more child. ‍ They didn't really give us an update after that and I had to go find the host to ask what the status of our table was after seeing 2 groups get seated with a similar size party before us but who arrived after. Their excuse was that they were waiting on my full party. I explained that our party was waiting in the car since the inside wasn't large enough to accommodate all of us standing around and they apologized and seated us. Bottom line, be aware that they won't seat you unless you speak up. After that unpleasant start, we were given menus, and I think our waitress must've been new because she offered no suggestions or menu info, just asked us for our drinks orders and kinda disappeared. She was nice, but the food items were haphazardly given since my mother in law requested that her nachos be given as an entree vs appetizer. We kept on having to ask for items repeatedly like straws, salt/pepper, napkins, she was sweet but forgetful. The food: now coming from Lucy's Cafe West, I was already spoiled by the wonderful flavors and the food at Julio's was just bland. Considering the clientele I saw was of a certain age group and occasions I saw celebrated, it seems to me like it's the type of pricey Mexican style food that appeals to people who want a safe option. We all asked for salt, which tells you how the food was flavored, or rather not flavored. It was like a higher end El Torito. The portions are big, especially the margaritas, and it was delicious and boozy, but everything else fell short since I could only taste the texture, it was really weird, it was like they cooked the flavor out of everything, the shredded beef tacos, the salsa, the beans, even the guacamole. We added salt in order to get some sort of flavor in. It's a beautiful location but the food doesn't do it justice. If you're gonna get Mexican food, and don't have a big crowd (6+) just go to Lucy's Cafe West instead. It's half the price and double the flavor. If you want a beautiful setting to celebrate a birthday or baby shower or take your grandma to lunch and maybe spicy/well flavored food is too much for her digestive system, Julio's might be right up your alley. The place itself is excellent such as the building and decorations. The service was slow but the servers and manager checking up on people was alright. The food was alright, most of it was cold and now something I expected. Maybe it will change soon and get better. read more

If I could leave a negative star I would. I found two pieces of stainless steel in my chile relleno on my first bite... I had to dig it out of my throat in the bathroom. The waiter said " sorry for the inconvenience ". The manager gave no apology but said it was from the grill brush used to clean the grill. That was not an apology. Julio's on the Westside was very disappointing. Although this location happens to be conveniently located close to where my parents live--it certainly doesn't measure up to the Eastside location. We were a group of four and every single plate, including the appetizers were substandard and worst of all cold. As a rule of thumb, I generally avoid sending food back, but we had no choice but to say something. Sadly, even after speaking with the server, the second round of food came out--and yes it was cold again. My father in law is a very well mannered man. For the first time in 8 years, this is the meal that led him to use profanity for the first time since I've known him. Suffice it to say, this was a rough meal. We just had a terrible experience at Julio's. The waiter was just awful he just could not get our order correct. He not only told us he did not give us what we had ordered, but proceeded to tell us what he had ordered for us. Soups and salads were forgotten. When we inquired he simply said, Oh they never came? Second review. I really love Julio's off the Gateway and have been going there for most of my life, so I keep wanting to give this location the benefit of the doubt only to leave disappointed, again. I ordered a simple dish today: chicken tacos. The tacos were greasy and not fully fried, so they fell apart easily. You can also see by the photos that there was more filler than actual chicken. The amount of meat in all three tacos in the order should've filled one taco, and this is how they're usually served at other locations. The flavor of the actual taco was bland. The guacamole looked like it was at least a day old and was also bland. The beans were their usual good recipe and helped lend some salt to the rest of the dish. This will probably be my last visit to this location, unfortunately. A half empty restaurant at lunch time with this name and in this area says a lot, I think. Also, a sign on the door indicated that the pricing on the menu is for cash only, so if you plan to pay by card plan to add 3% to your total. read more

Came here while visiting my friends. We were here for the brunch buffet and it's official -- when I go back to Michigan, I can't have Mexican cuisine there anymore. I hate to do it, but I've got to downgrade the rating. We have come back on 2 different occasions and have left feeling disappointed. We like the mole & order some to go when we've dined here, but always feel ripped off by the amount given for the price paid. This last time we dined, our server was friendly but it took almost an hour to be served & our food was not as fresh as we expected. We had cocktails, which were subpar. Definitely not speakeasy quality, but same price. I asked for a "small side of mole" & got a couple tablespoons in a dish, which was fine, I didn't expect a lot. We ordered a pint of mole to go too. I give them 3 simply because their take out service was terrible. We ordered shrimp cocktails and when we started looking for shrimp we were able to count 10 small shrimp on one cup and a few more on the other one. We paid basically $30 for tomato sauce and a bag of chips. Why restaurants do that? If I don't done in is because I am stuck at work and I'm trying to have a descent meal and I end up getting frustrated for a poor meal read more

Just average Mexican food in my opinion. It's a nice location, pretty new on the west side, but not my top choice for Mexican food. The margaritas are large but don't seem to have enough alcohol for my liking. Would rather go to Chuy's for good margs and food. Oh my gosh was this place ever awesome!!! The hostess greeted us and was very friendly. Our waitress was amazing. Very quick to serve us and very friendly. I ordered off the lunch menu and got the ensalada (first picture). It was loaded with delicious white meat chicken and so many things!! Honey roasted peanuts, cheese blocks, tortilla strips, mandarin oranges. It was sooo good. My lunch special also came with soup and the soup could not have been better.
