** 5 year update ** Contrary to the last review I wrote, nope. This place has seen the last of me!! This place is 2 towns away and not worth the drive these days. I parked on the back lot where I've always parked, and entered through the rear entrance. The walls and carpet are filthy, the bathrooms smell backed up, dining area was outdated, etc. Welp, on this visit, we ordered Shrimp & Broccoli Lunch Special, Sesame Chicken Lunch Special, and a Small Shrimp Toast order. It was so bad, I didn't take any pics. The Shrimp & Broccoli Lunch Special was less than average in preparation and taste. Kept me in the bathroom for 24 hours. The Shrimp Toast went straight in the trash. I took a small bite of each. I have no idea what the taste experienced was. I treated someone to the Sesame Chicken, and I'm embarrassed to ask her thoughts. It was def a great 30 year run. That's it, that's all. read more

Never a disappointment. Food was 10/10, chicken was fried well and they don't skip out on the shrimp for shrimp fried rice. We love that! This time around I have a 4/5 for stars because I am accustomed to being able to get a combo meal of rice and chicken but for here you have to order them separately. That is a bit costly for one person. The only option you have to get rice and meat together is there pork options and as someone who doesn't like to eat pork or red meat too often I don't benefit from the "specials" and "combos" they have to offer. Wow! My mother and some friends of hers recommended this restaurant. This restaurant has been here for as long as I can remember, and it is the first time I have gotten carryout from this place. I highly recommend this place. It is old fashioned from what I remember from my childhood, like the eggrolls. They are made with the correct eggroll shell, not the Chinese restaurants that make eggrolls with spring roll shells. Other places, especially in Virginia, where I live, try to do the bait and switch, and I don't like it. But Wing Wah makes them perfectly delicious. In addition, their hot and sour soup was hot enough to clear out my sinuses completely. It was the hottest, spice-wise, hot and sour soup I have ever had, and I loved it. They also have egg drop wonton soup there, and I love it, but I don't find it in many places. We ordered a large order from the car while we were running errands, and in 20 minutes, the order was ready for pickup. We ordered two eggrolls, three pints of soup, and four dishes. The chef's special dish was very good, with lots of flavor and meat. The chicken with eggplant was tasty, and I loved it. The chicken chow mein was also very good. But the reason for one star is the lack of shrimp in the shrimp in lobster sauce dish. Six shrimp in the whole dish for dinner. That's ridiculous! It was good; the shrimp were large and delicious, and the sauce was very flavorful, but the lack of shrimp for the price was a downer. I enjoyed the food and plan to get Chinese there regularly when visiting my mom and friends. I know there are a few tables in the restaurant; however, we wanted to eat at home on Christmas Eve and took the food home. I'll check out the inside of the restaurant for a future visit. read more

I truly wish I could offer a better review with more stars because I know Wing Wah is a favorite of many people, but, alas, I can't. Granted, my familiarity with them is limited, just one eat-in meal a couple months ago, but that was lacking. The decor seemed straight out of the 1970s, and it probably was. That said, I go to most restaurants for the food and had the food been of a high caliber the decor wouldn't make a difference. In any event, I think a good portion of their business is carry out so most people aren't concerned with decor. The prices and portion sizes were also fine, so no complaints there. Just after being seated, we noted some of our cups and silverware didn't look the cleanest. We were able to easily enough exchange that with clean items, but it wasn't the optimal introduction. Then there was the food. Nothing ordered was adventurous or out of the ordinary (in other words, dishes you'd assume they'd get right), just typical fare like sesame chicken, something like a triple delight, a tempura shrimp, an eggplant dish, that sort of thing. Problem is, none of them, nor even the beginning soups or accompaniments like egg rolls, were all that good, and my dish, the sesame chicken, had a bit of a "stale" taste to it. Not something that I'd return to the kitchen or complain about, just something fairly mediocre that I didn't much care for. And that was the sentiment of the rest of the party - we're glad we tried it and were not ripped off, but there are just many better choices out there. read more

I want to start by saying Good Chinese food is hard to come by in Baltimore and surrounding areas . When I walked into Wing Wah and saw the mold on the wall , I knew I had arrived !!!! This meant this restaurant was probably as old as I am which meant the Chinese food of my child hood taste buds was awaiting me . The food was ten out of ten . Food amazing, fried rice amazing , egg fu young perfect , gravy perfection and the dinner for one with a choice of rib or egg roll and soup definitely something from the past . I even called my father while seated at the table to let him know I found his favorite lobster egg fu young . Even my son who is a picky funny eater was amazed by the kimchi like cabbage they give as a complementary side dish !!!!! read more

Well I'm back in Baltimore unfortunately, however a bright spot is Wing Wah. This is my second time and they dont disappoint. The Wing Wah Tidbit box is delicious Think of a back in the day chinese restaurant with a large menu and everything cooked to perfection. The box (made for 2) contains 2 large shrimp toast, 2 crab wontons, 2 chicken wings, 4 ribs and 2 egg rolls. Think of a pupu platter...or a meal for 2 days..just add soup or large fried rice. The ribs were good but the egg rolls and the shrimp toast taste like they fry it twice. Once earlier and then before they serve it. It was like that years ago on New years Eve and I thought they are busy wanting to get ahead but no, this time it was just carry out. Not good and I wouldn't order that again. read more

We ordered crab wontons, sesame chicken (requested spicy), chicken and broccoli and 2 orders of chicken and rice soup ( essentially wonton soup with chicken and rice added) The crab wontons were so over cooked we tried to break off the edges of the wonton and enjoy the middle just to be the egg rolls were so dry and bland! I haven't been to Wing Wah Restaurant in about 10 years. What I do remember is the food was great and service was terrific. I remembered when it was just a carry out. They expanded into a restaurant a short time after it opened. I remember Selina who was one of the owner managers and two servers Joan and Ling. They all took care of me well. read more

Wing Wah. One of the last great Chinese food places in the area. Americanized of course. This is now the only place that I go for Chinese. The prices are moderate but everything is delicious and ready quickly. This place has been around forever and a lot of people eat in the restaurant but they also do carry out. It is clean and bright and pretty inside . Cashiers always nice and they remember you if you are a regular. All of my dietary bets are off here. I eat eggs and shrimp with abandon. My go tos are shrimp egg foo yung, shrimp fried rice and shrimp and broccoli. I have argued for years about how terrible the Chinese food places in Owings Mills are and this place just brings back memories of the best. The taste is spot on. Not greasy and shrimp are pretty large compared to other places. Perfect taste. Large portions in the small. I usually get an egg roll just to get the mustard. The hot mustard and duck sauce are made in house. The mustard will clear your sinuses , clear any acne that you have, grow your hair back, and make you taller and shorter at the same time. Seriously. Try this place out. Parking is in the back and can get crazy if the barber shop is open. You enter in back of store via marked door. You will see old timers and other people in the know. This place is overpriced for the lousy food they serve. The rice tastes like its been sitting in the fridge for a week and the ribs were cold and also tasted like its been siting in the fridge for days. I have been a patron for many years and have seen the quality of the food change as chefs have changed. For the past few years I've only used the carry-out service, not dine-in. Although the people out front are very efficient and welcoming, I will never go there again for carry-out. Over the past several months, more and more mistakes have been made on my order and the quality of food has definitely gone down. Once, I ordered chicken chow mien and brought home shrimp chow mien. I can't eat shrimp. Several times small items were left out of the bag like noodles or sauces. Recently, an order of Singapore rice noodles was much more greasy than usual. The final blow was yesterday's order of General Tso's Chicken. I noticed that the sauce was very dark and had a slightly smokey smell when it was uncovered. Tasting it gave the answer. It seemed like a vat of soy sauce was added and it tasted like a block of salt. It was completely inedible. I'm sorry to have to abandon a former favorite, but when you bring food like this home and end up with nothing to eat, there is no other choice. read more

Once apon a time, this was your grandparents spot for cheap basic Chinese food. You went in, sat at a cracked vinyl booth among tables of geriatrics, and ordered the most basic Chinese food. And it was good. Nowadays it's a bit different. The good is still good, but the setting and the menu are different. The crowd is younger, the cracked vinyl booths are repaired. The menu includes many more choices, even Sushi. Want basic? Their Won-ton soup and shrimp chow mein are still the best in town. Want some hot tea? Yes, when you sit down a complimentary pot is put on your table along with the crispy noodles served with the gooey sweet and sour sauce it is addicting. I like the shade shrimp, but ask for hot sauce because I like a little heat with the savery sauce. AND they are open on Monday, which is convenient since most of the other Chinese spots in my are are closed (they are closed on Tuesday). read more

Despite the aged interior and more aged clientele, this is a super awesome Chinese restaurant. All the chefs specialties are amazing, but the thing that makes me drive all the way across town to come here is the barbecue spare ribs. Meaty, tender, and with Just the right amount of sauce, these ribs will make you want to come back for your next meal. And the one after that. And the one after that. I now live less than a mile away with my son and daughter... we placed a pretty substantial carryout order for the 3 us... service was very friendly, fast... and when we got home to eat the food was amazingly delucious... a family vote says we will be returning very soon!!! read more

This is one of our TWO favorite Chinese restaurants anywhere. The other is Jumbo Seafood which is much more expensive. They serve FREE spicy cabbage appetizer and the best crispy noodles and duck sauce. And all the free hot tea you can drink. Highly recommended is their LEMON CHICKEN dish. Unlike any other you have had--- thee BEST! Friendly staff and great service. Always left overs for another night. PS: Great wonton soup and spare ribs. No reservations needed. This is not your cheap chinese takeout, but your taste buds can tell the difference between this and the cheaper stuff from a generic take out place. So can your wallet. Did I mention it's not cheap? It's not unaffordable and there are some things that are a great value but don't come here for cheap eats, come here for good eats. I actually like eating inside because I feel like I am in the shining or something it's such a time capsule. The late 70s decor wasn't stylish when it was new but now it's so uncool it's kinda cool. Not really asian inspired aside from the fish tank with carp in it, just 70s cheesy. It's not uncomfortable, just unfashionable. I went yesterday to Wing Wah with some friends for lunch. The server knows what I order every time. Yesterday my egg roll was not hot , the spareribs were delicious,and the chicken chow mein was disgusting , the chef put in to much cornstarch. I don't like it thick. Our server took it back and brought me back another plate of chicken chow mein and it came back the same way, plus it was tasteless . I didn't eat , and I paid for it. My love affair with Wing Wah has ended. Went there the other night, new ownership, new wait staff. Lousy service. The food was almost - but not quite - as good as it used to be so, really, there's no reason to come back. Spare ribs were average. Egg roll was not nearly as good as it used to be. Relatively small portion of fried rice and not as much "stuff" in it. Shrimp and lobster sauce was still good but it seemed like not many shrimp. Yes I know. It's old. The booths have broken springs with worn out vinyl. And yes, this is the restaurant your grandma went to. And yes, the average age of those dining in may be north of 70. Yes, you do have to park in the back (and not on Jiffy lube's lot unless you want to be towed and pay an very high fine (per the signs on the door) just to get your car back. Yes, you do have to enter from the back meaning you walk through a dingy hallway past the bathrooms to get to the dining area. But you need to overlook all that and concentrate on the food (usually why I order carry out and not eat in at Wing Wah). Because their food is THAT good. Won Ton soup like you remember from your youth. Homemade duck sauce - available for purchase (though why you want to purchase it is another story). The BEST chow mein you've ever had. Some oldies but goodies that are hard to find, such as Butterfly Shrimp with Bacon in an egg batter. And really good sauce to put on it, not just pink globs, but real flavor. Excellent friend rice. The best Chow Fun you'll ever eat. Do not go an expect amazing food in styles other than the original Cantonese we grew up in. The northern province's of China are represented, but I think this is where Wing Wah fails. Not that those dishes are bad, rather that they are generic. So go to WIng Wah. Their food is still very good, but they must have changed owners. The service is not as good. Not enough help, waited forever for a carry out order even though i placed it much earlier. Also, i spent $80 and they couldn't give me a couple extra bags of crunchy noodles free. Really? I might not bother returning. Its a 40 minute drive and not worth it anymoresince the former (much nicer) owners arent there anymore. Prices used to be more reasonable too. :( read more

So Chinese restaurants are a dime a dozen, but Wing Wah puts them all to shame. We came here for Xmas dinner because that's what Jews do. It was packed, but the wait didn't seem long. This family run treasure definitely called in reinforcements for its busiest night of the year to keep everything moving. We started with steamed vegetable dumplings and egg drop soup. Both were good, but the homemade crisps were great. My boyfriend had sesame chicken that must have been imported from fairytale land because the chunks of chicken were at least 4 bites a piece. They were very tender and delicious as well. Per my waitress's recommendation I went with the bone-in roasted duck. It was so awesome that my boyfriend couldn't keep his hands off of them! We finished off our meal with yummy peppermint ice cream and good fortunes for the road. Everyone should find a great Chinese place to give their loyalties to, and Wing Wah is definitely mine! read more
