2 piece dark meat fried chicken with mashed potatoes
    Lucinda B.

This is a locally owned go to for us. Having been raised eating catfish I was happy to find this gem in a city. The staff are friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is outdoorsman eclectic. (Think 80s bass pro) There are many menu options to choose from, some of which are all you can eat. When seated you are brought out pass arounds of endless white beans, coleslaw, and hushpuppies. Tonight I had the 3 piece catfish with mashed potatoes. My husband had the 2 piece dark meat chicken with mashed potatoes. I ordered hot tea which came out in this cute little teapot. For dessert we had their delicious peach cobbler with icecream. Next time you're in Olathe or Lee's Summit be sure to check them out.

The crab and fried catfish here are truly the best in the area! The service and staff are outstanding! I absolutely adore this place and the atmosphere it offers.

Always great food and lots of it at a reasonable price. Far better choice than say, Red Lobster or one of the large chains.

So, we were driving around in Overland Park and saw a Slim's Chicken. We hoped it was the same brand as we had in Arkansas. Turns out it was the same. The chicken strips were delicious. Hot, tender, good size and very juicy. Also, for the price, got a 4-piece strips meal, for less than $10 got a lot of food. Meal included Texas toast, generous serving of fries and a drink. They also, have over a dozen dipping sauces to pick from. It is almost overwhelming to select a sauce. There is another major chicken fast food chain, whose chicken tenders we use as the comparison point. Didn't think it was possible, however these are better. Now, with that said, and looking at some of the other reviews comments I do have to say that the disposition of the service folks could take some lessons from this other chicken fast food chain. It was okay service; however given the overall taste and value of the chain I would now put this as my preference for the best chicken tenders that I have had. The service differences are not enough to drive me to the other chain. One other thing. They do have chicken wings. I got one to give it a try. It was okay and I would say expensive for what you get. So, none of their chicken wings for me. Stay with the tenders. My rating is only based on the chicken tenders, not the wings.

For the fries, they aren't crispy enough for me. They are fried but somehow still soft. I like my fries to be crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The buns taste good and are fluffy but are greasy. Not something I could expect from a bun. The chicken is fine. Alone it doesn't stand out and I think they rely on the sauces. Which there are a crazy amount of options. The "sweet" tea is anything but. I don't know what their recipe is or sugar percentage but they need to make some adjustments. Seriously, it didn't taste like they put any sugar in there. The staff is friendly and helpful. My visit today was specifically to try the new Nashville Hot Sandwich. Let me tell you, it lives up to its name! That sandwich is crazy hot! If you like your tongue and lips to feel like they are being burnt off have at it! I ordered the slaw on the side as it is mayo based and wasn't sure I would like it but I wish I had had more. It helped to temper the hot sauce that the chicken is covered in and then I also tried adding honey on top. I would like someone who has been on the show Hot Ones to try it and tell me where it stands on their line up!

I ordered the Homemade Chicken Pot Pie, and while it was okay, it really lacked flavor. It wasn't bad, but it definitely wasn't memorable. My daughter ordered the fish and chips with the loaded fries upgrade. She said the fish wasn't very good, which surprised me because she absolutely loves fish and almost never complains about it. She was hungry enough to eat it, but it definitely wasn't something she'd order again. As for the loaded fries, paying an extra $1.50 wasn't worth it. There were barely any toppings, so they were still dry and didn't really feel "loaded" at all. Overall, the meal was just mediocre. Nothing was terrible, but nothing stood out either, especially for the price. I might give Cheddar's another chance and try something different, but after this experience, it's not somewhere I'd go out of my way to eat or find myself craving. There are plenty of other places I'd choose before coming back.

I like the fish tank off the front lobby. One thing Ive noticed is waiting area of most restaurants. They are not equipped for large quantities of people and the overflow into the dining area. We waited about 5 -8 mins to be seated. They were pretty busy. Imanni was our server and she was fantastic. We didn't wait long before she took our order: 2 strawberry lemonades, 5 ox Bourbon Salmon & shrimp with broccoli casserole and baked potato; Single Fried Chicken on texas toast, mashed potatoes & country gravy and green beans. I did have to ask if the mashed potatoes were real or instant too. Now DO NOT SKIP the crescent rolls and that honey butter. OH MY GOODNESS... they came out warm with plenty of butter. No, I did not lick the paper! Our food came out in timely fashion, not soon after we finished each of our crescent roll. We both thoroughly enjoyed our choice. The fried chicken & gravy was flavorful as was the green beans. I might go back to try something different. Overall, the crescent rolls won me over!

Before I begin, let me say that every review I write starts with three stars... it goes up or down…read morefrom there based on quality, service and value for price. I'd been seeing the Nashville Hot Chicken Shack (NHCS) as an option of Door Dash for a few weeks and decided to give it t a try, but rather than order for delivery, I wanted to find out if there was a dine in option. When I searched the address I was directed to Fox & Hound, a pub/grill I'd seen many times. Thinking perhaps they'd had COVID related business issues, I decided to call, but having dialed the number twice, I got recordings that the number was out of order. At this point I was jonesing pretty bad for hot chicken and decided to take the chance and drive a few miles to check it out. I grabbed some buddies from work and took off. On arrival we learned that there is no storefront for The Nashville Hot Chicken Shack, but rather that it was a "Virtual Kitchen" functioning out of Fox & Hound's facility. ("American Grilled Cheese Company" is another VK in the same facility. It was a strategy to increase business and keep the restaurant afloat during the pandemic.) I was disappointed to learn that my friends and I couldn't place an order for the menu items from NHCS. The only menus available were for Fox & Hound. The server was super nice about it, but simply couldn't accommodate our request. That's when I pulled out my phone and placed a pickup order through Door Dash for Hot Chicken and sides, and my friends and I sat in the restaurant, sipped on soft drinks, and waited for our takeout. We got back to the office and unpacked the bag. Our orders were correct and contained everything we expected. The chicken was not sauced as I expected it to be. We all ordered Medium heat... I would have bumped it up to hot if I'd had a point of reference, but it was appropriately spiced for medium. The chicken itself was nothing special. It wasn't bad... it was just "meh." For my two sides I chose mac & cheese and collard greens. The mac was very loose... soupy in fact. I was not a fan. The greens, however were OUTSTANDING. (I say that as a Southerner who loves greens. These were GREAT.) On it's own, the meal would have held its three star rating, but it was the price point that took it down for me. I REALLY wanted this meal to be wonderful, but the simple fact is that it was mediocre at best, and certainly not worth the price. I'd drive up in to the metro for hot chicken at a competitor before I'd order from Nashville Hot Chicken Shack again. I don't like writing negative reviews, and I want to be clear, this rating has NOTHING to do with the service I received. (In fact, I gave the waitress who brought our soft drinks a $10 tip.) I just can't recommend this food at this price point.
