I decided to give Cheddar's a try for lunch today since I hadn't been there in years, and I haven't been to one since moving to the Kansas City area. I ordered the Homemade Chicken Pot Pie, and while it was okay, it really lacked flavor. It wasn't bad, but it definitely wasn't memorable. My daughter ordered the fish and chips with the loaded fries upgrade. She said the fish wasn't very good, which surprised me because she absolutely loves fish and almost never complains about it. She was hungry enough to eat it, but it definitely wasn't something she'd order again. As for the loaded fries, paying an extra $1.50 wasn't worth it. There were barely any toppings, so they were still dry and didn't really feel "loaded" at all. Overall, the meal was just mediocre. Nothing was terrible, but nothing stood out either, especially for the price. I might give Cheddar's another chance and try something different, but after this experience, it's not somewhere I'd go out of my way to eat or find myself craving. So, I must preface my review with I have not been a Cheddar's fan. My mom wanted to eat here. The ambiance is resemblance of Red Lobster, Outback, Longhorn vibe. I like the fish tank off the front lobby. One thing Ive noticed is waiting area of most restaurants. They are not equipped for large quantities of people and the overflow into the dining area. We waited about 5 -8 mins to be seated. They were pretty busy. Imanni was our server and she was fantastic. We didn't wait long before she took our order: 2 strawberry lemonades, 5 ox Bourbon Salmon & shrimp with broccoli casserole and baked potato; Single Fried Chicken on texas toast, mashed potatoes & country gravy and green beans. I did have to ask if the mashed potatoes were real or instant too. Now DO NOT SKIP the crescent rolls and that honey butter. OH MY GOODNESS... they came out warm with plenty of butter. No, I did not lick the paper! Our food came out in timely fashion, not soon after we finished each of our crescent roll. We both thoroughly enjoyed our choice. Hello, On Friday night 7/10/2026 at 8:30 pm I had dinner at the Overland Park location with a male friend of the family. We left the restaurant right at closing. I ordered a house salad with bacon on it, green beans and bacon cheeseburger and I ordered the burger well done and my guest ordered the salmon dinner. The salmon dinner was ok but did not receive any rice with it really. The house salad was good. The burger was terrible the bacon was not cooked at all straight raw. I did not eat much of the burger at the restaurant so I packaged it and took it home. The next day which was Saturday I was not feeling so well from the food so I started looking at the food I took home and saw the bacon on the bacon cheese burger was totally raw before I thought about taking a picture it I threw it out. I will never eat at another Cheddar's for the rest of my lifetime. The waiter was a young man and he was not friendly at all. Cheddar's you must do better around the board if not business will not be good. You deserve a zero star rating on this review. read more

Our server was really great. The food is always good. I like the queso fries but with melted shredded cheese (the way they used to make them). I don't like queso at all, so I'm really glad and thankful that they can still prepare them the way they used to because they're delicious. I will start by saying our server was fine. She was nice, checked on us and did everything a good server should do. The restaurant itself was clean and had a layback energy to it. But the food...not so much. The onion rings were legit, nicely fried and a sweet onion. Really didn't need any dipping sauce for them. Our monte cristo sandwiches were lame. The sandwiches should have both ham and turkey, ours was just ham. The cheese was just. Kraft single, you would expect a better quality cheese from a restaurant. Fries were over cooked and hard. Haven't had Cheddar's for years and the quality has definitely gone down since my previous experience. Doubt I go back anytime soon. read more

I'm really disappointed with my experience at Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen. There was a large party with kids running around the restaurant while adults loudly threatened them. It made the whole dining room uncomfortable, and multiple tables complained--but management didn't step in for about 45 minutes. The bathrooms were also in terrible condition (unflushed toilets and worse), which is honestly unacceptable. The only time management seemed to act was when that same table complained about their food and asked for it to be comped. We had a nice family gathering at Cheddar's. It was busy for a Thursday night and we had a small wait but nothing crazy. Service was great, meals are affordable but it was so cold in the restaurant!! I ordered the 8oz sirloin dinner -- talk about a value meal!! It came with a large side salad (0.99 upcharge) and a heaping amount of French fries. The steak was seasoned and grilled very well. Pretty friendly service, restaurant is freezing so take a jacket but the casual dining environment makes me happy. The honey butter croissants are phenomenal! I ordered the veggie Philly and I cannot state enough how happy I am I chose this & I am not a vegetarian, just sounded good! I can't wait to return just for this sandwich. I stayed over at Grandma's. We got our food delivered, and I was the only one that ate the pasta. Grandma had the fries. I got digestive discomfort after eating the New Orleans Pasta. It was really heavy on the salt. I normally love Cheddar's for a good get-together family meal, and have introduced my Grandma to it because of the excellent value. We had a delightful evening and enjoyed everything we ordered! Prior to arriving I called to join their waitlist; upon arrival, we were seated promptly and greeted with delicious warm honey-buttered croissants. Tracy was AMAZING-- from taking our drinks to bringing to-go boxes. She went above and beyond when our little one got fussy and brought fruit for her to enjoy (and play with) until food was served. Husband saw the picture of the buffalo chicken wrap with fries and immediately ordered that. Very tasty! Fries were lightly salted and nice and hot though not super crispy. Service was lacking. If chain restaurant classics are your comfort food of choice then Cheddar's is the place to you. The menu is unmistakably Midwest with it's please all approach to lunch and dinner. If you want to expand your taste buds then you may search elsewhere like more upscale options a step above such as Hollihans. However, this isn't to say I have ever left Cheddar's unhappy but, I have only been twice. The atmosphere is unforgettable without any real theme except a lot of booths. But, the service has been outstanding and friendly without being overbearing each time which I have appreciated. From the things I have tried I would pretty much say I get the gist of this restaurant's not so novel menu and I have noshed on chicken fingers and fries with coleslaw, fried shrimp, a cesar salad and baked potato soup- in that order. See what I mean when I say creativity is not Cheddar's middle name and it's the truth that the entire menu reads like a little kids menu. But, the execution doesn't completely suck so... The chicken fingers and fries basket combo meal was named after a Nascar driver and claimed to be his favorite meal, which I full heartedly believe. The portion also was so huge it looked like it would feed an entire Nascar family, which I appreciated, if I'm ordering chicken fingers out at a restaurant as a grown adult I want more than four fingers on my plate, or in this case in my basket. The fries are good fries, salty crunchy, not much more to say. The coleslaw was creamy and tasted fresh and that's imperative to coleslaw being edible in my book. If it's too briney or resembles the flavor of dirty dish water it's a big no-go but thankfully Cheddar's is neither of those. The meal I most recently had consisted of a simple Cesar salad, which came to the table drowned in thin watery cesar dressing and covered in thick ribbons of low quality parmesan cheese and some rich potato soup topped with bacon of course. Though one part of my meal was a little bland, the soup, the salad was definitely overly salty so, I guess they evened eachother out? All in all, it satisfied the craving I was hankering for at a pretty reasonable price but, I feel like I could have gotten better at Panera. But, the best part of any meal at Cheddar's is the completely unnecessary appetizer that accompanies any entree (or so I have gathered), it's listed under the appetizer section but, to my knowledge they're actually complimentary. And that is...drumroll please...honey butter croissants, you heard that right, buttery incredibly sweet slightly flakey dessert croissants delivered right to your table intended to spoil your appetite before your main dish arrives, okay so that last part may just be my interpretation. The ambiance was cozy. We were impressed with the ceiling fan and enjoyed the fish tank. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. Our drinks were good. I had the chicken pot pie with a house salad. The salad was delicious and I was surprised by the croissant, which was quite yummy. The chicken:peas:carrots ratio was balanced, the chicken portion sizes were just right and all were cooked perfectly. I would have preferred a thicker gravy,however. The crust was good,but thin, too sparse and could have been more buttery. I would have liked it to be a little thicker and with some of the crust baked around the sides in addition to being on the top. My son had the chicken fingers with a side of Mac n cheese and fries. The chicken fingers were impressive, plump, perfectly browned and crispy. The fries were good but average. Neither of us cared for the Mac n cheese. It was dry with little cheese and little flavor. Overall our visit was a 50:50. Some of the food was exceptional and some of the food so-so. We'll probably go back to try other food from the menu but more likely to frequent Bender's for their homey type menu, price and location. read more

We ordered food for curbside pickup at 3:40 in the afternoon. Message came back, said order was received and it would be ready for pickup at 4:04.We arrived at 4:07 to pickup and waited 15 minutes, so I went in to see what the hold up was and the bartender told me they were bagging it up now and we would have it in a few minutes. We waited another 10 minutes which made our wait almost thirty minutes. My husband then went in himself and the girl had to go back to get it. There wasn't even an apology for the long delay. Our food was just tepid when we got home and at the most we were only ten minutes away. We are very very disappointed and will never be back, as this is not the first time we have had to wait, but this is definitely the longest wait we have ever had for curbside pickup. My girlfriend and I were in the Overland Park area looking to get food. We ended up near the mall and we saw Cheddars. We've never had said restaurant, so we wanted to try it out! Food and trying new food spots is a love language of ours. The initial appearance of this restaurant is pretty inviting, and inside is very nice and clean. The service was very good. The food on the other hand... not so much. We ordered the queso fries, which includes bacon bits. The "queso" is really just melted cheddar cheese and not the traditional queso you would have at a Mexican restaurant or homemade. It was ok. We had also ordered a salad, potato soup, and grilled chicken alfredo. The potato soup tasted like cardboard and soap. The chicken alfredo was dry, yet salty. Thankfully, the salad was pretty good. Overall, the food is incredibly disappointing. Needless to say, we won't be dining here again. read more

I am beyond appalled! My husband and granddaughter sat on one side of a booth while my daughter and myself sat on the other side. After we got our drinks my husband kept saying he smelled something really bad. And something was on his hand. After smelling it for around 10 min we finally looked under the seat and found vomit under it. We jumped up and I went and told the front staff that there was puke at our table and asked for another seat...assuming after telling then 3 people about what was found that someone would clean it. We got moved...no one apologized and they just acted like it was normal. After we paid and vowed never to go back, I looked under the table and the puke was still there!!! Cheddars once was a rock solid place to eat, often faring better than an Applebee's or even Houlihan's. Over the years, customer service, food quality, and menu choices have been hit or miss. Prior to our visit, we did curbside pickup and it was decent. I have not dined in the restaurant since November 2022. Here are my thoughts: Customer Service: 6/10 I believe the attitude of the staff is a reflection of the manager and how they are treated. The manager on duty had a very poor attitude. This was reflected by his constantly micro-managing wait staff, hovering over tables obtrusively, and curtly calling for our party as we stood in the doorway to hold the door open for others. It was off-putting and kinda spoiled our experience. The wait staff rushed around looking stressed and pressed. It was understandably busy, especially for a Saturday evening, but it was not a good look on the manager. I will give a big shoutout to Logan, our server, who was witty, welcoming, and efficient. Our drinks never stayed empty and he kept his cool a lot better than the manager. Memories of Houston's: 5/10 The interior lighting reminds me of Houston's (ahh the memories!) moody yet romantic feel. It has a casual ambiance that does not necessarily match the crowd. The bathroom was decently clean, minus the broken soap dispenser. The bar side was drier than a desert and I was surprised more customers were not seated in that area. Shout out the booth seating, which sunk us to the earth's core and was like climbing out of a hole when trying to leave. If it is crowded at peak times, you are better off waiting in your car, as there is not a lot of room to wait in the entryway. Diversity: 8/10 Cheddars has always done a great job of having a diverse staff working at this location. Food: 6.5/10 Unfortunately, the food was a miss for me. The strawberry lemonade was more on the tart side, but it was manageable after stirring the syrup at the bottom. We had chips and queso for an appetizer. Spoiler alert - it was not appetizing. The chips tasted like plastic and the queso was lukewarm. The complementary croissants were mid at best. I remember them being a lot better in the past. For an entree, I had the grilled salmon with a salad and mashed potatoes and gravy. The salmon was decent but the mashed potatoes were underwhelming. My husband had the ribeye with fries. He said the ribeye was not properly seasoned and the fries were not great. Our kid had the 6 oz sirloin, salad, and fries which was pretty good. The salad was fresh but there was not enough dressing for the size of the salad provided. The rest of our party had ribs and chicken, which garnered favorable reviews. For all six of us, the bill was about $150, which was not worth it to me. Overall: 6/10 This was an underwhelming visit. COVID has changed the restaurant landscape and I was not impressed with the manager's attitude. We will not be back after this visit. I would rather make menu dupes at home or drive to other spots that will give me more bang for my buck. read more
