This is the BEST Korean food in Downtown LA. The family that runs it is so sweet. I came here with 9 of my friends from Colburn music camp and they accommodated us with no problem. I had the beef bulgogi combo bowl and it was so delicious for a good price. I came back the next night with 5 others, and got the spicy chicken plate; it was very spicy but so good. I'd recommend getting two rice bowls with that one. The food didn't take long to come out even with 10 people, and everyone was satisfied with their orders. Some of my friends and I were speaking Korean with the lady, and she was very supportive and nice to us learning. Came here for an early dinner on a week night. You may miss this spot just walking or driving by in the DTLA area but you want to make sure you give this place a visit! Street parking is available with accessible parking at the store front and a green zone for pick ups as needed. It's a small shop with a pretty simple menu. They look and sound the same but I think they differ in size and what sides they come with if any! You'll find your traditional Korean proteins over rice and pickled sides. There's also Korean fried chicken and a small happy hour menu. As a table of two, we ordered the kim chi fried rice, the fried dumplings, the spicy pork belly bowl, and the bulgogi bowl. All were good but if I had to rank them, I would say the spicy pork belly bowl was my favorite followed by the kim chi fried rice then the bulgogi bowl. The fried dumplings were filled with meat which makes for a great appetizer! Our waiter was this older man who was very kind and attentive to our table! This place is worth checking out. read more

Jumsim popped up on my radar while quickly looking for a lunch spot nearby. For businesses that have VERY strong ratings, I definitely come with some interest in whether it's hype or reality. However, I'm happy to share that Jumsim 1000% deserves all the love it's received. My colleague and I both ordered a rice combo. The spicy pork was just spicy enough to cater towards a wide audience (which is perfectly ok). Mandu is obviously handmade and was incredibly juicy. And lastly service-- it'll make you feel like you're at home! I read that it's a wife/husband duo that runs this spot, with the wife taking care of the front and husband taking care of the back. With DTLA still experiencing various socioeconomic challenges that impact businesses, I'm so happy to see places like Jumsim holding on. As I was sitting down, it was very obvious that they've grown a strong customer base. I was just visiting the area but could tell that she had many regulars. Several of them stopped by to just say hi to her, and one of them took pictures with her and she said that it was because this customer was moving away from CA the day after and just wanted a memory of this place. I really enjoyed the potstickers! They were a surprise hit. Two are included in the cupbap. It was so delicious I ordered another 6 of those separately. The cupbap appears to be one of the most economical options. There was plenty of beef bulgogi in it to make one feel full. The spicy pork barbecue was flavorful. Solid korean food spot. Very welcoming, lots of non-koreans and fairly busy for lunch which is a great sign. They have lunch items and then regular menu items as well. Everything tasted good. I came here for lunch because it said lunch on the wall outside. If anyone out there is thinking of doing the same thing, do it! It was pretty crowded for a weekday lunch (almost every seat full), but my party of 1 was seated immediately at the counter against the wall, which is the perfect spot for a solo eater. Everything looked amazing but I went with the beef bulgogi rice bowl combo (beef bulgogi, rice, cabbage, pickles [a little spicy] shredded seaweed, 2 beef dumplings, & fried egg). -- One thing to note: the dumplings tasted exactly like the Bibigo frozen beef mandu, which isn't a bad thing, but just struck me. I love those things but wasn't expecting to have them at a restaurant. Each element in the bowl was fresh and delicious, but nothing made me happier than the fried egg atop the beef. Just a little sliver of fried egg with its golden ooze (yolk) plus a forkful of beef bulgogi was pure bliss. Crispy, sweet, salty, yummy! This dish filled me up!! Once I dug that fork into my shiny gold bowl, I went downright ravenous on that meal til there was nothing left! It's like I blacked out and the eating monster took over. I probably finished in 10 minutes which is unheard of for me (slow eater). I also ordered the rice juice. This was my first time trying Korean rice juice so I wasn't sure what to expect, but this blew me away. It was like a less sweet, roasted and nutty horchata minus the cinnamon. I loved it! Not to sweet! Prices were reasonable, and service was FAST even though the place was packed! Such a cute mom and pop eatery that really makes you feel at home. read more

Our server seems like the owner and she was so sweet and nice. The gimbap was delicious and freshly made with spam, yellow pickled daikon, spinach and spam. We really enjoyed it and would order it again. The Bonchon were sparse, but they went well with what we ordered. I was surprised that there was no fresh kimchi. Some of the spinach used to make the kimbap would be a good side too. The Bulgogi was the wet kind with sweet potato noodles mixed in with planks of mushroom and onion. I wouldn't order this again. It did not have the flavor I am used to and the texture was soft because of the noodles and the mushroom. When I come back, I'll try the spicy squid, the pork or the chicken. Love the soup and banchan that comes with it. Filling, comforting healthy. Just a quick note for those wondering: the soup is miso soup, not daenjang. Service: the nicest lady owns JumSim and works here. She greeted us so kindly, was always so attentive if we needed more water, and even had a chat with us before we left asking how we liked the food. It looks like there is only one person working in the kitchen so the food doesn't come out as fast as you'd expect but it wasn't a problem. Parking: there is metered street parking available right outside. It was 50 cents per hour. We went during lunch so we were able to get a spot. I love this place. I work in the area and this is a great little lunch spot. The place is clean and well kept and the people are so nice and welcoming! The woman at the register always greets me with a friendly smile, which I love. I have gone with several of my coworkers, so she might recognize me, but really, I just think she is friendly. Either way, she makes me So far, I've ordered the kimbap, the bibimbap, the kimchi pancake, the tteokbokki and the rice juice. I've also tried a bite of the japchae. I ordered the Spicy Pork cupbap. It's a decent size, with a layer of rice on the bottom, covered with a healthy portion of spicy pork, salad, kimchi and pickled veggies. They also have a pseudo instant ramen bar. You select the package of ramen you want, and the worker will place it into an instant bowl of hot water and will add any fixings as you order.
