What can I say? Then we found Red Dog Saloon in Ketchikan, and suddenly Alaska made a whole lot more sense. This place was one of the highlights of our entire trip! The people were awesome, the bartenders were fantastic, the music was great, and the atmosphere was exactly what you hope to find in an old-school Alaskan saloon. And the DECOR?! There is stuff EVERYWHERE--on the walls, hanging from the ceiling, probably hiding under the bar. You could spend half your visit just wandering around looking at everything. And then there's Wyatt's gun story... Apparently Wyatt checked his gun when he came in, but his boat left early--before the saloon opened--so he never got it back. Honestly, that might be the most Alaskan vacation story ever. There were locals mixed in with the tourists, which made it even better. And somehow, despite being cruise-ship tourists ourselves, we never felt like tourists. We just felt like we had stumbled into the coolest joint in town. Great people. Great vibe. Great music.
