Canton House was one of the first restaurants we tried out when we moved to Juneau, and we have had great experiences every time we return. Something that I can't say for all of the restaurants in Juneau, sadly. It was on the list of places we had to take my Dad while he was in town, and it was Dave's choice for his birthday dinner this month. I love that they give you a tea kettle full of steaming hot green tea to enjoy while you wait for your food. Their sushi is incredible, but then again you can't really go wrong with ordering sushi in Alaska...I mean, the fish was just caught down the street! I love their kung pow shrimp and always say I'm going to try something new, but who am I kidding? Dave has loved all the chicken entries he's tried, and the lo mien is great, but don't order it if you like the typical thick noodles. I have been here a few times for consistency and this place really is turning around. The price is higher than others and the quality is higher. The issue is they need more of a variety on sushi. The staff have been extremely helpful and professional and there is ample parking. If you're looking for a nice quiet well lit place for a date I do recommend this establishment. read more

Today was horrible. We spent $80 and left hungry. We ordered curry and it came out as soup. When we commented to the kid server, he said that's how we make it. DONT ORDER THE CURRY! It was all onions and few mushrooms and a couple carrots. We ended up leaving it on the table. Another thing that happened, was we ordered avocado rolls and asked to add cream cheese. When they came they didn't have cream cheese, I commented that was fine, but the server insisted the chef remake it because he was going to eat the ones without cream cheese. WHAT!!! Ordered the orange chicken. Sauce was all starch and no orange flavor at all. I suspect they use orange extract and no actual orange juice or zest. It was like eating gelatin coated chicken. Sent it back and told the waitress I a couple bites because it was not good. The manager gave me 25% inedible food. Still had to pay $20 for food I could eat. In town for Legislature and stopped in for the first time in a few years. It's still very spendy and menu is hit and miss. Thai red curry is ok, pass on the others. The Chinese is pretty basic, Americanized fare. The Miso soup is great. The fish isn't cut to bite size, so expect a lot of awkwardness trying not to look sloppy while eating. Overall you'll probably have a relatively OK meal and enjoy a nice atmosphere (not counting the neighbors and shared bathroom only accessible by request of the key). The older staff is friendly. I am on deployment in Juneau, Alaska. My co-worker took me to Canton Asian Bistro. We ordered appetizers, crab Rangoon, was banging, and potstickers were tasty. I love the crunchiness of both appetizers. We also ordered the Las Vegas sushi roll, which was like an explosion in my mouth. I notice they had Mongolian beef on their menu but I prefer it spicy, so I ordered 3 pepper spice levels for my dish. My co-worker ordered his favorite the green curry chicken, which is spicy. The service is quick and the food is delicious. I will definitely be returning to eat more of their sushi. Their sushi is very fresh and they have many different rolls to choose from. Nice ambiance, when you actually get inside the restaurant, but it's in a strange location. They're very expensive for what you get, and the portion sizes are pretty small. I've eaten here a few times and have never been overly impressed, which is surprising while eating in Juneau. It's not worth the money, in my opinion. read more

Pulled up to this odd shaped building, looked like a dental office if you know what I mean. I wasn't expecting much but let me tell you, the inside was immaculate. So clean and beautifully decorated. I ordered the sushi and was not disappointed. I even requested a roll that wasn't on the menu and our amazing waitress Alice made magic happen. It was like a sunshine roll and they did it just how I explained . I also ordered the Las Vegas & Play Boy Roll... mmmmm it was all amazing. My boyfriend and I were in heaven. From Reno, NV and we have a lot of Cantonese and Asian places. I would say this place is spot on. We had a party of 16 and they brought out food quickly and it was hot!! Favorites Fried rice - pick one. It has a nice smokey flavor from being stir fried. Chicken UDON - plentiful and tasty Pot stickers we liked by the group but were fried. Prefer steamed. We came in for dinner this even early and got seated immediately. The restaurant was clean and inviting. I ordered Vegetable lomein and an avocado sushi roll. The veggies in the lomein were crisp yet tender, excellent! The avocado sushi roll was very flavorful and delicious. I've heard a lot about this restaurant having new ownership recently and I've read some negative reviews of late. Not Going Back, My first and only experience was so bad. I had high hopes of good service upon seeing a mandatory 18% gratuity would be automatically added to our bill. But sadly, no. First, we asked for more water, which was almost slammed on the table. Second, all food but rice was way over cooked. Including teriyaki beef skewers that were like jerky. Third, the waitress brought the check before two in our party had even been served their food. In addition, the sushi which is comprised of raw fish was poorly made and served warm. Anyone who has had sushi knows it should be ice cold. Why was the their raw fish warm? Rude staff, bad customer service. Poorly made food, all for over $140.00. The prices are way too high for such poor quality of food. Two people ordered off the senior menu for $21.95 each and I ordered off the dinner menu for about $24.95. This is a great place for Pan Asian food. It is a classy little place with very friendly wait staff. They have a good sized menu. I was super excited that they have almond chicken. I wasn't disappointed either. They make it just like I do, cut pieces, then deep fry. Not a whole chicken breast deep fried then sliced. The General Tso's chicken was good too. Big portions. I don't eat out much. Although, I've made it a tradition to eat here at least once every year. I'm seated, immediately, upon entering the restaurant and the wait staff does routine checks for refills, questions, etcetera, from start to finish. I've eaten here over the past 25 years and it's had its ups and downs but really the service over the past 5-7 years has been the worst. The staff don't seem well managed, trained, or supervised. My last experience there the server was very impersonal and wanted to get the order over with and move on. After serving the food she never once came back. I heard other patrons make similar comments about the poor service. The food was lukewarm and some of the food was just poor quality- like it had sat under a warming lamp all day- 2nd experience I've had in a row of the food being kinda cold. At one point I had to go hunt a server down to get some service. I saw lots of staff walking around going in and out of doors but not tending to guests. Asiana is more expensive but the food is always good and the service is always excellent. read more

I was here for a whole weekend for a business trip, staying at a hotel, right next to the airport. Happily I discovered this restaurant because it was one of the better meals I had the entire weekend. The new sushi Chef behind the counter (Brian) was terrific: he's cordial, friendly, and attentive. And the service was also great all around. I winded up coming here four times altogether. During the third time, I brought the staff of a nearby church, St. Pauls, to the restaurant (they were the ones who invited me to Juneau). Well, the staff had a grand time. Now the last time I came there, I wanted some sake, but alas, they did not have a liquor license at that point. However, I was told that they were working on it and they should have it within a few weeks, if not sooner. Went and sat at the sushi bar. Seem the chef of also the owner. If he is he should not be in business. Absolutely no personality, trying to hurry along and order. Ordered a won ton soup for appetizer and told him I would order more layer. His response "whatever". Won ton was can chicken broth with a couple dumplings thrown in.
