    meatball ricotta!
    Ann C.

this is a cozy, dark, and romantic place to have dinner in downtown juneau. bf and i were enticed when we were walking in the building and saw 2 giant trays of lasagna through the big window into the kitchen. we went back for dinner the next night and it was definitely the right choice! you MUST GET the meatball ricotta dish!!! they're so yummy and taste like sausages and also comes with little pizza crust slices and spinach. i ordered a jamaican pizza and it was yummy! bf ordered the lasagna and it was basically the meatball dish but with less meat and more pasta. their marinara sauce was super delicious too! they have bar seating and tables, and the service was alright as the restaurant got busy during dinner hours. this is a great place for some italian food if you're ever in downtown juneau!

Stuffed tomatoes au gratin, one with chicken one with filet mignon

Dishes were exquisite, thoughtful, and well priced. Signature cocktails were like a spin on a Manhattan that I want to remake at home! Service was prompt, kind, and supported bringing our three kids to dine which we don't find everywhere. Ambiance was lovely. Medium lighting, soft music, stunning bar. Kitchen visible and much made in house. We enjoyed the stuffed tomatoes au gratin, meat lasagna, cheese pizza, and white chocolate bread pudding. Loved everything.

    Over charge of Crab Gnocchi

Went to enjoy a date night and the service and food were average. Salad was good, my wife said crab gnocchi was okay and my lasagna wasn't fully cooked, it was cold in the middle and cheese wasn't melted. At the end of the night they tried to overcharge us for the gnocchi, good thing we checked the receipt and menu. They charged us, $25.99, when the menu said 19.99. We brought it up with the server and they corrected the price giving a bad excuse. Watch out for shady practices on your receipt.

Delicious Italian food, loved the ambiance. The lasagna was great, hints of fennel in the sausage, filet with mushrooms was done perfectly.

    Italian margarita and sangria

Super cute place with modern furniture and lighting and delicious smells for days. The menu is full of great ideas...unfortunately pretty poor execution. The Italian margarita was fantastic - great ratio of amaretto - strong but not too sweet. The sangria and aperol spritz were a bit on the weak side. The crab gnocchi had some small chunks of snow crab but the pesto was super salty and overwhelming and the gnocchi was definitely pre-made. The stuffed dates were drowned in orange marmalade that was so overwhelming and sweet and the stuffed funghi was missing the sausage? The pizza was made on pre-made crust that was cracker crunchy while the toppings were raw and cheese was barely melted. Service was moderately acceptable. The server was nice but definitely splitting his attention too much. Passed in desert because those are store bought too. Roma has so much potential! I'd love to see them step it up a little :)

Roma is a smaller sized restaurant located downtown. The look and feel is compact and stylish. Starting with the small plates, portioning is perfect for two people to share. I would recommend trying out a few of the available options. The flavors were amazing and presentation was spot on. Our pasta entrees however were just mediocre. After the enjoyment of the small plates, I guess I expected something exemplary. I didn't find that. The gnocchi I ordered was dry. It seemed as if it sat for few minutes before being brought out. Although it did taste good, it was a little dried out. Service was slightly slow, but I do believe it was at no fault to the servers. The two servers were tending to the bar and multiple table on two floors. I'd be more inclined to say it was management not staffing accordingly on a Sunday afternoon with decent weather and a holiday. The servers were polite and very knowledgeable of the menu, as well as they made some good recommendations with the small plates. I would return on special occasions for dinner or when taking someone out. The drinks were well made and the atmosphere is very comfortable for a nice night out.

Cool atmosphere but some of the worst pizza I've ever had. Terrible mass produced crust and even though it had many toppings it was bland.

So after finding out that the other restaurant was not open at all that day we came back for a second time. Both times staff greeted us and told us to sit where we liked. It was a cool day but wanted to sit outside and watch the people and water. They offer a good selection of beers as well as some cocktails. (Check out the Bloody Mary!) So the first stop we ordered a flight as well as the Blueberry Mojito. The beers were good. The Blueberry Mojito was amazing. Our second stop we ordered the halibut fish and chips and seafood chowder and a beer and another mojito. The fish was cooked perfectly. Not too greasy. The chips were great. The chowder was good. Hot for a cold day and not too thick. Staff were always checking on us and made some great suggestions for the beers and food. We will stop by next time in town. This is one of our favorite places.

Pretty packed with other cruise folks. We just got one order of fish and chips and split it. Menu says 8 ounces of Alaskan halibut in a gluten free batter they make with their lemon lime spruce tip seltzer. Came as two pieces. Batter was crisp and golden brown like it should be. Fish inside was white and flaky. Fries are the hop salt fries. Little cup of tartar and a lemon wedge. The fish was good. I will give them that. But $38 for two pieces of fish and some fries is ridiculously stupid. That is just price gouging for the cruise crowd. Really disappointed we paid that. Service was moderate at best. Nobody was rude. Nobody was all that on it either. And watch out for the birds. They have pigeons walking around on the wood floor inside the building. One was pecking crumbs right by the glass where the kegs are. They take off and flap over the tables too. Feathers and the occasional bird doo doo. There is no way somebody hasnt gotten splattered at some point. Would eat the fish again if it was half the price. Not rushing back at $38.

A lot of places have shrunk their calamari serving size down and serve it with an aioli that isn't always great. The basket of onion rings were crisp and hot with the right texture. I know it's frozen but it's the old fashioned onion rings that many places have changed the breading or undercooked or overcooked. Employees are very nice here. Our server was so nice. She checked on us a few times and refilled our drinks. We also had the one pound Alaskan king crab legs. It was just the way I remembered having it when restaurants used to serve Alaskan king crab legs. They're super fat meaty long legs. It was warmed up and served with lemon and butter. It was just enough for two of us. It probably would not have fed my son. He is a big eater and he would have ordered a steak. If I was hungry or had a crab craving, it might not have been enough for just me. We've also been over eating on a cruise ship for 6 days. We shared the apple crisp ala mode for dessert. It was not crisp but it did have some crumbs thrown on top like a cobbler. It was in a warm sauce and topped with ice cream. It's a cute place with a wharf view. The tables are not on top of each other. They gave us plenty of napkins and a bib too. If I lived in the area, I would be back every month for the calamari & onion rings, and yes the crab legs. The Diet Coke was perfect too, just enough syrup and carbonation. I would definitely come back if I was in the area.

The ship was the epitome of modern luxury and the port cities catered to all the tourists needs. But at some point, I needed to get a little down and dirty, to get away from the crowds of visitors. To me, Alaska is still frontier, and I needed to experience just a taste of it. From the recommendation of a grizzled cruise staff, my wife & I found ourselves at the Alaskan Hotel and Bar, enjoying a pint and taking in small piece of history. While a few tourists did wander in, most of the patrons seemed local and knew each other and the staff. We watched from the far end of the bar and soaked in the atmosphere while enjoying our beers. Though there was a single acoustic guitarist playing from the stage, the bar was mostly still and quiet, a welcome respite from the throngs of outsiders on the street, veering in and out of the jewelry stores and tacky souvenir shops. Both of us needed this time to recharge, to enjoy a different side of Alaska than we'd seen, to be around normal people again. Does this bar have all the amenities? Are fancy cocktails the standard fair? Is the furniture new? All those answers are no. But the drinks are strong and the bathrooms are clean. And for a tired tourist, this is the most welcome sight.
