I was in the area and thought I'd check if they had Birdie and Louie cat food. I'm trying to see if…read moreI can get a few cans instead of buying a whole case straight from the brand. My cat is a picky eater, so I'd rather have a few cans than a full case. Sadly, they only carry the dog version. In fact, the cat section is minuscule. It's literally one tiny section on the shelf, while the dog section gets a full display. I wasn't really a fan of that, but maybe cat stuff doesn't sell well here. They have a lot of vegan options here, which I appreciate. I ended up buying Jack & Annie's Fish Fillets and Chicken Strips, since they were on sale. I've also been wanting to try the Back to Nature White Chedda Cheezy crackers, so I got those too. I really like the crackers; before becoming vegan, white cheddar cheez-its were my go-to guilty pleasure, so it's nice to have a vegan alternative. The bakery also has the delicious fresh-baked vegan oatmeal raisin cookies, and today I noticed some fresh-baked muffins (chocolate and blueberry) along with the usual big brands like Abe's. I appreciate how they clearly mark and separate the organic and non-organic produce. I picked up some organic ketit mangos to try (they were on sale for buy one, get one 50% off). The staff is really friendly and helpful. I was searching for dolmas one time and they went above and beyond to help me find them. We checked every shelf, but they were actually in the deli section, tucked away on a wire rack at the bottom.

The staff were very friendly and welcoming. This month for a few weeks they offer Irish Soda Bread. We tried a sample and it was very good.

There are lots of uncommon fruits and veggies, like fresh jujube fruits, prickly pear cactus fruits, and specialty herbs and greens. It's a great way to support local businesses and farmers, while keeping excess produce out of the landfills. The open-air market style also allows for individual selections of produce, and considerably less plastic packaging!! Don't forget your reusable bags, but if you do, they sell some and they even offer green, compostable produce bags available for any quantity you are in need of. Foothill Produce is particularly great for discount deals on ripe produce if you are keen on same-day recipes. They also have a large selection of European, Russian, Polish, Middle-Eastern, and Jewish foods (fresh and frozen). The market always has apples of almost every variety, seasonal products, fresh breads and challah, and plenty of standard groceries as well. Fingers crossed for a bountiful 2026. If you're debating stopping by, let this be your encouragement.

Mega is clearly far and away the best Asian market in the Bay area... having said that, I do have…read moresome complaints but will give it the 5 stars it deserves. Let's start with the good, or I should say best. The sashimi here is the best of any Asian market bar none. You could even say better than some Sushi restaurants (I won't name them). Even some of the newer Asian markets like T&T have disgusting sashimi... to the point you can taste the ice bc they hadn't fully defrosted it. The only nit I have is bruh... stop putting the frickin plastic sauce packets right on top of the fish. Why? Why would you do that? Stop it. Come on. Why in the actual F would you do that? Ok, I know this sounds more like complaints but I do really like Mega Mart to be clear. 2 other issues: #1. Dude... what're you guys doing with the panchan? When did you start adding so much sugar and sugaring the F out of the panchan. This is not how it should be. Old Korean grandmas are literally turning in their graves with this sacrilege. Maybe panchan sales are falling, but you can be damn sure I will never buy this again with the amount of sugar you guys add. Like why? Why 50% sugar... seriously, this panchan candy bar nonsense makes no sense! #2. What happened to organic natto? Like bruh. You only had 1 brand left that was organic. Sure I could go to Nijiya and have a choice of 2, but I'm disappointed you guys stopped carrying the only organic natto you had.

I dropped by for my usual mushroom run and decided to peruse the aisles. I was excited to see that they now have a "Vegan Vegetable Mandu" offering in the hot food section. I had to grab both options to test them out : Unlimeat Kimchi Mandoo and Unlimeat Vegetable Mandoo. Each package has 8 pieces and a packet of shoyu. After trying both, the kimchi version won me over a bit more. The other option is lighter in flavor, and I'm a fan of bold and spicy food. Adding the shoyu helps, but I could easily eat all the kimchi ones alone. I'm not sure I'd get them often, but I like having an option in the grab and go section for when I'm short on time and hungry. They also added some Pulmone vegan-friendly microwave dumplings to the frozen section, so I got those too. I noticed some plant-based bulgogi kimbap in the frozen section, but I decided to skip them because I'm iffy about the textures of frozen kimbap. I love when grocery stores have vegan-friendly options! I hope this means they'll start adding more vegan-friendly options in the grab and go hot food section. A tofu and veggie rice bowl would be nice!
