I checked this place out the other day for the first time. I decided on a 10 oz "His" NY strip. The meat looked great but upon cooking it the meat was very tough/chewy. It was cooked to medium/rare - I like my meat pink in the middle, so I was surprised at the toughness. My husband had a custom cut of a NY strip after we explained he doesn't like a whole lot of fat on his steak. When we got home he had to cut a lot of fat off of steak - but when we cooked steak -his meat was fantastic. Super tasty & delicious. (Also cooked to medium/rare)My advice is avoid what is displayed & ask for a custom cut. Prices were reasonable & the place has a lot to choose from. read more

Visited for the first time today on a lark, and couldn't be happier. We bought three 10 ounce ribeyes, a sirloin, and a stuffed pork chop for about $33. Once we got home and cooked them up we found they all had an awesome flavor and were perfectly juicy when cooked right. I will definitely be visiting again to buy steaks at a great price, and as a source for some of the more exotic meats we can't find elsewhere in Omaha like swordfish and goat. read more

Ordered a 20-24 lb fresh turkey (the biggest you can get) weeks before Thanksgiving and pre-paid. Wrote in the notes section that I need the biggest they could give me and I'd pay extra. Called to see if getting there early on pick up day helped get a big one, which the man said it did. Arrived within an hour after they opened and got a 20.7 lb turkey and a grumpy response that "the range says it's a 20-24 lb turkey." I could see getting a 24 lb one, but to get the lowest of the weight range and a grumpy response makes me re-think ordering from them again. Thankfully I have a spare turkey in the fridge bc I need to cook 2 for sure now. read more

Every year we buy a side of beef and have it cut our way..We've been pretty happy till this year..We went to JGM from hearing and reading how good they were..First we grilled some steaks and then made a few roasts..Never have I been so disappointed..Even tenderizing them didn't help..On each occasion, it was like chewing leather..The meat is so tough and loaded with gristle..So we are now stuck with a freezer of beef that no one wants to eat..I have had better with store purchased meats..Next time I will take the long distant trip and get my side of beef..You all may have had better experiences, that's good..Very happy for you..Apparently I ended up with a bad cow..Sorry, but this review is not good..Thumbs down..:( read more

VERY disappointing is an understatement. I went to Just Good Meat based on a recommendation from a friend. The items purchased and the service I received were equally bad. First the service. I purchased 3 "Her" ribeye steaks, 1 "His" ribeye steak, 4 twice baked potatoes and a package of beef sticks (which were actually pretty good). As I was checking out, the guest checking out at the register next to me had a question in regards to the price of the beef jerky she was purchasing. The man ringing up her order (who appeared to be the manager) asked the man ringing up my order to go check the pricing. The man ringing up my order dropped my items and went to check the beef jerky pricing, leaving me standing there waiting while the guest next to me and the man checking her out made small talk. I finally said something to him and he apologized and finished checking my order out. Now, to the items I purchased. The steaks were possibly the worse steaks I have ever eaten. All 4 steaks, which were cooked medium rare plus, were very tough and chewy. Half way through her steak, my daughter said she was done as her jaw was hurting too bad from chewing. The twice baked potatoes (baked as directed by store personnel) were very dry despite adding butter in hopes of making them moist. The beef sticks are the only reason I am giving 2 stars and not a 1 star rating. Net net, I will not be returning to Just Good Meat. read more

Came in for 1st time in 20 years and mentioned that we wanted to try a couple of cuts of steak times 2. Tough meat to try to eat. Have been very gunshy to return. The front-end person said that they were better than Omaha Steaks, but in fact they are definitely not even close to their quality. Seems like they would have cut the very best cuts for us knowing our background and history, we felt after that we must have been just another number on the wall. Really BAD meat. read more

I bought a 6 pack of frozen 5 oz. fillets this past weekend and was disappointed. They weren't as tender as the fillets that I buy at Hy-Vee. Their price is good, but they were as tough as a sirloin. I had to chew a long time to get it down. So I'm not sure that I really received fillets. Also they don't seem to reply to emails either. I sent an email asking about placing an order and picking it up on Christmas eve. No reply. read more

My cousin buys (at least did until now) lots of meat from this place so I thought I'd give it a try. Unlike a normal store that writes down the weight of your meat on the package after they wrap it, these folks get a pencil & scribble what they're charging you for your meat. As I was walking around with the package it felt kinda light. After I paid, I had the cashier re-weigh it. Good thing too-I was charged .7 pounds more than it weighed, which was $5.90 they refunded me. The cashier was as sincere as a quality employee could be. When I got home and called to speak with a manager was when my opinion of the place went further downhill. It felt good to be speaking to an actual department manager however he kept referring to the guy who packaged my meat as "A kid who isn't good with scales nor understanding prices of our meats". Coming from a farm where we butchered our own meat I was used to good meat. So when we moved out here and I had to start buying my meat...ugh!! YUCK!!!! SOOOO glad I found this place. We have been going there for our beef and pork ever since!!!! I do still buy Tyson chicken in the grocery store, but really is there any difference in chicken??! Highly overrated meat shop. I would not dare refer to JGM as a butcher shop, because as far as I can tell, there is no butchering going on. I wouldn't want to insult an actual butcher. Many of JGM's specialty products (e.g. prosciutto, which shouldn't even't make the "specialty" category) appear to be repackaged retail products, at ridiculous prices. Sausage is mostly, but not all frozen. Grass-fed beef is all frozen. There are no fresh, whole chickens. Fish is all filleted and frozen. If you ask them where the fish is from, they shrug. Why are they even selling fish, if this is the best they can offer? In summary, unless you're coming in for above-average bacon or filet mignon, or perhaps a combination of the two -- ever so popular -- this is not the place for you. read more

first time i ever bought meat there. last night, i bought a beautiful 10 oz filet mignon. in appearance, it was very appealing. however, it was tough. hy vee filets are more expensive but much better in taste and quality. i found it difficult to believe it was beef tenderloin. i asked and the guy told me it was. i'd say fair but definately better quality meats sold elsewhere. the beef jerky was very good. read more
