Been buying at JGM for years. Favorite is the thick cut Ribeye. Cost about $13-14. It's huge. Cooks up well. At one myself once. Most of the time it's big enough for 2 people to share. Wife orders the Ladies Filet most all the time. And we like the regular ribeye also. We also love the bacon. Yes it's more pricey than the markets. However, when you cook it up, you won't be left with so much water in the meat. The quality and cooked quantity is so much better. The smoked bones for the dogs are great too! So a non-meat-eater walks into a meat shop - no, not the beginning to some weird joke your most awkward and drunk uncle tells at Thanksgiving, but in fact a true story. We went here because, well, this is pretty much the only meat-ery (IDK?) that didn't laugh me off the phone when I called to ask if they could sell me chicken with the bones ground into it. For my cat. Duh. (I'll wait for you to stop laughing before I continue.) Anyway, I make raw cat food because I'm clearly insane and "that kind of animal person," and my least favorite part of the task was the incredibly time consuming task of chopping the bones into fine granules so my precious darling gets her calcium needs met. Also, dude, have you ever tried chopping chicken bones with a big-ass cleaver? I mean I know I don't eat the stuff so it's a touch abject to me in the first place, but HOLY SHRAPNEL CITY! I'm sure a CSI crew would have a field day with my old apartment. Bone and marrow chunks just... everywhere... you don't want them to be... which is pretty much everywhere except the cutting board. So I was like dude I'm over this, some butcher out here in meatland MUST be able to hook a lady up. Dude at Just Good Meat was like, nah, I can do you one better, we have pre-made raw dog food with all the necks and spines and gizzards and livers and whatever other upsetting organs all mashed up already, we sell it in little packages. I almost asked him to marry me. But instead I chose to go to their store, where I was overwhelmed not only with meat everywhere, but super friendly staff, and the prized Raw Dog Food (which, if you add some supplements and whatnot, becomes Raw Cat Food). My Mom is a meatatarian so she bought a whole bunch of cow parts and stuff, and then I was like THEY SELL ALLIGATOR AND FROG LEGS WHAT THE WHAT? Dude these guys sell pretty much any animal you might want to put in your face hole. And they are lovely. Like solid 5 star customer service. LOVE. And I don't even eat 99.99999% of what they sell. In Omaha, aka the City of Meat, it can be surprisingly difficult to find an actual butcher. Most of the grocery stores (except Wohlner's and Foodway) have packaged meats that are only fresh if you consider meat that's been transported multiple times since it died. For a kid that grew up on corn-fed Wyoming beef, it was like moving to Las Vegas and finding out they'd just banned strippers and gambling. That was only until I discovered Just Good Meat. Just Good Meats is the place to go when you want great meat handled with care by good guys who know their business. The place is clean and has that great cool smell of meat. I wish I could describe it better. What really makes it for me are the guys behind the counter. Friendly, knowledgeable and cute! Who doesn't like handsome men with sharp knives? Okay, well maybe that's just me. I am not enough of a red meat fanatic to know the difference between a top round and a fillet but these guys do. Zenda and I put ourselves in the hands of the guys and walked out with two rib eyes, a roast and some stuffed pork chops. The guys recommended we pan sear the steaks in butter and cook to med rare. I can't wait to try it. I understand it is a Midwest tradition to get half a cow and stuff it into the freezer. Well, lucky for us we have an upright freezer in the garage. I've gone here for over 2 years now, the selection of different types of meats (veal, buffalo, rabbit, turkey, beef, chicken, goat and a few other) is wonderful. Seafood selection is decent, however it is vacuum sealed then frozen-- never in the meat case, which is fine cuz we're several hundreds of miles from the ocean/ fresh seafood, so vacuum sealed is your best bet for good taste. Their steaks and bacon by the pound never disappoint. I usually get/also recommend: smoked salmon, bacon, pork butt, steaks (any type), burgers, chicken breast, sausages. Love their different sausages they make and also that their chicken breast are fresh without any added broth/crap like the kind you get at the super market. I've also been to several events catered by them and will say their beans, coleslaw and pulled pork always go over well with a crowd. read more

The steaks on display looked amazing and were more than fairly priced. The options in the coolers and refrigerated areas (from andouille to boudin) were awesome and I was SO happy to finally find some lamb shanks to go along with the goat stew meat and store made peppered beef jerky that we purchased. I love this place. If I lived in Omaha or around the area this would be my go to place for meat. My best friend took me here and we got a load of yummy goodies. I loved that they had scallops, alligator, duck, chicken, and etc. We got peppered bacon, scallops, ribeyes, and jerky. Their beef jerky is EXCELLENT. I highly recommend the peppered jerky. Made my first trip here the day before 4th of July using a gift certificate received at Christmas. The place was small but well organized and packed with goodness. Large selection of every type and cut of meat you can imagine as well as cheeses, deli goods, rubs and other bbq supplies. Naturally it was quite crowded due to the holiday weekend but things were orderly and the staff very helpful and friendly. Went to buy some ground sirloin this past weekend. Could only order from your car which is understandable given the circumstances. Requested five pounds of ground sirloin and gave them my card to charge. Price went up over $2 per pound and was only given four pounds (checked on my scale at home) but paid for five! When I began cooking the meat it was the cheapest hamburger I have had in many years. A regular smoke screen trying to cook burgers from my grill! This was at best 70/30 blend. Before this experience, I have purchased ground sirloin and had great experience and little smoke while cooking. The previous ground beef sold was not nearly as fatty as what I received over the weekend! JGM is definitely taking advantage of the situation by selling low grade meat for top dollar. It is also important to add that Sean (the owner) is the person who took my order. They will never get my business again!!! Beware if you buy from this place without seeing the actual weight or what product is being wrapped. This place will take advantage of you along with your money! We are watching you!!! read more

First time visit, heard great things, but was very disappointed in their Kielbasa, not homemade and just like you get at a normal grocery store. Lot of other homemade meats, but not Kielbasa. Will pass on Kielbasa from here next time. The Whole Beef Tenderloin was much too chewy than we expected from this cut of meat and local beef. Bought two bone in ribeyes that i picked from the meat counter. When i opened the package to cook them, one of the steaks was brown and looked nothing like the one i selected. It was full of tough cartilege and tasted like sirloin. Worst ribeye i have ever had. Just not good meat. Just Good Meat on 84th Street is a great place to find a special cut of meat, or a bargain if you want to fill your freezer. They have packages with a variety of cuts, gift packages, steak packages, deli trays and sandwiches. They also make large packages of tavern mix and chili mix, which you can use for a large group, or do like we do-split them up into smaller packages so we can freeze them and use as we need them. They are always busy, but they have good service, and will help you out right away when you come in. The meat is always fresh and they sell a lot. Hit and miss. The meat is usually pretty good from here, but every once in a while I get some seriously subpar cuts, especially when it comes to filets. I've worked with whole tenderloins enough in my life that I can usually tell exactly which part of the loin the piece of meat came from when I bite into it. I have a sneaking suspicion that the châteaubriand (middle part - the best part of the cow) is reserved for someone else, because I never seem to have access to any here! Can't say I blame the butcher for securing the best part, but I can't be satisfied with grissely end pieces that are wrapped in bacon. So I usually buy whole tenderloin (USDA prime if I am lucky) from Sam's or Fareway and do the trimming myself. I'm sure I'll give them yet another try soon since I drive by it relatively frequently. read more

I don't think you can find a better bang for your buck in town. Bacon wrapped 10 oz filets are $7.45. Whole beef tenderloin and whole prime ribs are on the cheaper side in comparison. If you want something specific just ask and they'll do it. Their bacon is just great and if you have a smoker brisket and pig butt are also cheaper and of quality. You can find better read meat steaks across town, but this is the best bang for your buck and it's not really that close. read more
