Liked the different amount of choices of poke and that you can get 2 per bowl in the BYO. Don't love that all the toppings and sauces got mixed in with the protein options prior to being added to the rice. Why marinate and have the fish in different sauces if you're going to mix it a mess up that flavor? Personal opinion there. The staff that was working when I went was less than pleasant. Acted like I was a bother even walking in the door- I was ordering 2 bowls and at each step of the process she made it a big deal that I was differentiating which bowl the add ins would go on. Maybe have a better process for multiple orders. The up charge vs what they give you for that is way off, $1 extra for the smallest amount of avocado was ridiculous. Visited Just poke at noon on a Thursday and beat the lunch time rush. They had fun toppings that I don't normally see back home like chili mandarins and turmeric daikon. You can build your own bowl or choose on of their signature bowls - no substitutions on their signature bowls though. I chose to build my own. I got a regular sized bowl and that included two protein scoops, I went with the salmon and shrimp. I also added avocado and kimchi and each were a dollar more. The amount of kimchi they added was not worth the extra money. The bowl was great and the fish was fresh. I loved the many toppings they had and I will be back. read more

I only came here since I got a last minute deal from the Too Good to Go (food app). The concept is pay $3.99 for a 'surprise' bag of food, to prevent leftovers. Shockingly, this was the worst "surprise bag" promotion offer I've paid & received. It actually takes zero effort to make a bowl of rice. Okay, maybe minimal effort to set a timer so you don't burn the rice. But at least when greeted by the friendly staff, you get a choice between white or brown rice. For those that don't have an expensive $80 rice cooker at home, this is the place to visit. A yummy plain bowl of...just rice, with no add-on's, no poké / no sushi. At least I helped prevent food waste so the dumpster raccoons wouldn't be subjected to this fine rice delicacy. The decor is nice and the staff were very friendly! I've had a lot of poke in my life, but this was the first time that I found fish bones still in my poke. The server that helped me made me feel weird about ordering greens only as a base, as if he was kind of judging me, the rest of the interaction was a bit uncomfortable and awkward because he seemed annoyed about what i was ordering. The Des Moines location just celebrated their 2 year anniversary, so I've been coming here for about that long. This is a great little poke shop. Everything is fresh and delicious and they have a lot of variations including season proteins so you can always get something different (or stick to your same favorite, that's fair too!). I like to get my poke on organic greens instead of rice or noodles to keep it keto. This is a good fresh, healthy option to get a lot of protein at a fair price (I think the regular bowl is $14.) The shop is clean and inviting and the staff is always friendly and helpful. I also like that they have a few other Hawaiian treats (like spam musubi) to try. Also, sign up for their customer loyalty program (give them a cell phone number) because they frequently text about specials. First time here - got takeout and was pretty disappointed. Some of the salmon was cut into huge pieces, like the size of my fist. I read a different review that someone found fish bones in their huge pieces of salmon, so glad I threw these chunks out. Both bowls I purchased had zero flavor. These Just Poke places are popping up all over the Puget Sound region. It's nice that they have a spot in Des Moines right off Pac Hwy. It's also within walking distance from Highline College located in a multi development below the Highline student dorms. I built my own bowl. Everything tasted fresh. I was going to get the mac salad but it looked crusty. I dunno...maybe they need to cover it with a lid. It's nice they have dedicated parking spots. I bet during campus hours those students will try to find parking spots anywhere and everywhere. Plus I'm sure once the Kent/Des Moines Light Rail Station is up and running people might try parking there too. Really friendly employees working here. Ordered from grubhub so maybe that's the difference but my bowl was only half filled-- I'm saying only 3-4 cubes of each (3 kinds of poke) for the "large bowl." Even the other sides like corn and edamame were just bits and pieces. The taste was good but definitely not worth the price for the portion. read more

This is really good poke with tons of flavors and options. However, we got food poisoning here. I'm not sure if it was from poor food handling, temperature of the food, or what. We will try this place again since the food was so tasty. We tried a poke bowl that was delicious and an eel donburri that was melt in your mouth. First off, this place is sparkling clean wow! Staff is super friendly. Food was amazing! Presentation is perfection, so many pretty colors in my bowl of torched salmon. I added eel and had to try a Spam Musubi. A whole bunch of Hawaiin style drinks I have never tried before was an added bonus. My only complaint is I didn't have room in my stomach for one of their gorgeous acai bowls, however, there is always lunch plans for tomorrow. They have a sign up saying they're still doing their soft opening and to please be patient while they learn, but they operated like a well oiled machine. I loved that there were so many topping options and being able to choose between white rice, brown rice, salad greens and zucchini noodles is cool too.
