This was my first visit to Saimin Says and I will be back for sure. Super convenient location close to the on ramp to State Route 167 and just down the street from IKEA. You'll just have to remember that the location is part of the complex of off-white office buildings. Just look for unit# 269 right off S. 41st (you can see it from the street). Now onto the food.... I ordered the Shoyu Chicken and the Mochiko Chicken combo which comes with white rice and their Mahi Mahi Salad which was so nice and creamy. Everything was very flavorful, portion size was good and presentation was nice. The owner had just made fresh malasadas so I ordered a couple chocolate ones -- so good! Fluffy goodness! Haha! I plan to try the other flavors on my next visit! There is some seating inside but had to get back to work so took my order to go. They have two menu "binders" with photos and descriptions. I had fun looking at all of the entrees, sides and desserts and planning which ones I'll try next! My partner had a medical appointment nearby and since we don't often trek to Renton, we figured we should grab a bite to eat before making our way back north. Thus, we found Saimin Says, which was solid. Saimin Says is a Hawaiian eatery, serving all the classic dishes and they even featured some Guam specials. Located in a business strip, the space is on the smaller end for dining in, but they do have tables and chairs set up for such an occasion. And we did notice that most people who were here were getting takeout during the prime lunch hour on a weekday. The menu had a lot to choose from. But as soon as I saw that they had kalua pork loco moco, two of my favorite Hawaiian dishes, I had to get it. The kalua pork was tender and had a smoky flavor to it, and it was delicious on a bed of rice, topped with beef gravy and fried eggs, with that runny yolk. To balance it all out, I added some hot sauce for some kick, which was the way to go. It was a very good dish that did not disappoint. We don't often get Hawaiian food, but eating at Saimin Says made me miss it. If I'm back in the area, I'll have to try their actual namesake, the saimin, which I imagine is comfort food, like any noodle soup dish should be. Glad to have discovered this spot. read more

You order at the counter and pay and food will come out. They are located in a isolated area so you probably need to look for it and know about it. There's two businesses here, but same owner. Fiesta plate: 2 protein (brisket and pork belly) with rice, Mac salad, and pickle veggies --- this would have been really good if the brisket was not so tough. It was like jerky style and too tough, especially when it's cut really thick like that. Flavor was good though. My favorite thing was the rice. It was a red rice and soft and flavorful. This place was great! This was a small eatery tucked into an unassuming business area. Great portion sizes at great prices. I got the combo plate of chicken katsu and garlic chicken. Chicken katsu was a little bland, which I think is normal honestly, so I wish they had tonkatsu sauce to eat with it. They do have other sauces like hot sauce and ketchup on the counter. Garlic chicken was juicy. We also got the kahlua loco moco, that was similarly great, a little salty. Hurricane fries were delicious. Crispy, fluffy, and well seasoned with what I think is spicy mayo and furikake. Overall paid about $42. Come with cash as card will have a 3.5% processing charge! Service was good. Lady at the front took our order promptly. The place itself is small. 1 table that fits 6 and about 5 tables that fit 2-3. Saw lots of to-go orders. Thank you, Yelpers, for steering me to Saimin Says! My hubs and I were going to Ikea around lunchtime on a Tuesday afternoon and knew we didn't want to eat there. So I jumped on Yelp and found this place. The place is small and tucked into a non-descript industrial-like strip mall. But what they don't have in ambiance, they make up for in the food. My mochiko chicken was crispy and delicious. My hubs's shoyu chicken was savory and tasty. We both thought the tuna mac was some of the best macaroni salad we've ever had. We both ate half our lunches, sampled each other's lunches, and still had a decent amount to take home that later became part of our dinner. As the Hawaiians say, this place has 'ono grindz! My last review was too long ago. I'm an a repeat customer now. It is always just the garlic chicken so I can't speak to the rest of the menu but the garlic chicken is a repeat for me. I went here for a lunch and it was not busy inside. Most people come for pick up orders, but I opted to dine in. I got the garlic chicken rice and the spam katsu musubi, totaling close to $20. Food came out decently fast, about 10 minutes, and a powerful smell of garlic seeped to my nose, in a good way - I was excited to try the dish! The garlic chicken is a mochiko chicken with garlic, and it was quite flavorful. Just the garlic chicken dish itself filled me up, so it was good value. There's a good amount of rice and Mac salad, and it's not just any kind of Mac salad. It's Mac salad with tuna, adding a bit more flavor to it. The chicken itself is alright though - it's a bit dry and super salty. It helps with the rice but I wouldn't enjoy it in itself. The spam katsu musubi is a heartier take on the spam musubi. Instead of a teriyaki sauce, it's a katsu sauce so the flavor profile is a bit different. It's interesting and I enjoyed it but I would stick with the typical spam musubi next time. Overall, good food for decent prices. Recommend paying in cash as there is a hefty 3.5% surcharge for all card transactions. Have been to the Kent location with my brother and dad years ago. When brother told me they were in Renton now and they had been to make sure and check them out. My sister in law is from Hawaii so I trust her judgment on Hawaiian places. Her favorite dish is the Garlic Chicken which is their mochiko chicken but amped up. Was tasty with chopped bits of jalapeños. Chicken was tender inside and crispy outside. Dad got the katsu curry chicken was also cooked perfectly. Each came with a generous scoop of rice and mac salad. I'm not usually a fan of mac salads but theirs had great flavor with the added tuna. Friendly staff, not a large space but welcoming. It was nice to see they had a steady stream of customers dining in and for take out around 1:30 on a Saturday. They're not open on Sundays just an fyi it's why it took me so long to give them a try. Located amongst a bunch of businesses can almost be easily overlooked if you don't they're there but parking easily available. Looking forward to trying the rest of the menu. Authentic Hawaiian food! The place is absolutely non-descript and I had a little trouble finding the place but once you know, you should know. Inside is tiny with only about four tables to utilize so if they are busy, be prepared to take your food to go. I saw a lot of people eating in their cars. The menu is gigantic and for a first-time visitor, it was a bit overwhelming. I didn't even know about half of the dishes that they offer. We sat next to a couple of Hawaiian natives, and they were impressed by the food. We enjoyed our meals too but overall; I can't say that I'll revisit personally. It's not close to our home so unless I'm grabbing and going, I'll probably pass. If you're in the mood for some real Hawaiian food or possibly hankering for a taste of home. I wanted some spam musubi. This place has multiple options for spam musubi, and I ordered 2 different types (katsu and original) but received spicy, regular, and katsu. The regular spam musubi and the spicy spam musubi were well seasoned. I liked the spicy spam. The katsu was okay, but I'd recommend sticking with the original. I also snagged some malasadas that they had for sale that day. I regretted buying them almost immediately because they didn't look like they would be fresh, but they tasted awesome! Tucked away in a Renton office complex is a tiny slice of home for local transplants from Hawaii. It's much smaller than their old location but the food is just as good as before. I ordered a spam musubi and combo plate lunch with kalua pig and cabbage/mochiko chicken. I LOVE the mochiko chicken here. Super crispy bites and has the most delicious slight sweet umami flavor. There was more than what they gave in the pic but I started eating before taking a pic cus I was too hungry. The kalua pig and cabbage here is very good to me also. I will say it's got more pepper than any other kalua pig I've had anywhere. I still enjoyed it but was something unique about their pork. For the price of this a musubi and water it's a really good deal for the cost. Friendly service from the aunty at the front and the food comes out fairly quick! read more

The taste is authentic but I gave it 4/5 because the restaurant was hard to eat in due to small area they had for tables. There was also just one high chair and we did use it but the family that came in after us also had a small child and had to hold her in their lap. I felt a bit bad. Also, they had put everything in to go containers even though we were eating there so eating my yummy saimin out of a styrofoam container with disposable chopsticks were not ideal. I've had the mochiko chicken and their saimin and their musubi and everything is so good and tastes just like the food on the islands. The mochiko chicken is fried up perfectly and the meat is so tender. Their mac salad tastes a little different - there might be tuna in it or something, not too sure. It's good though! And the saimin noodles are chewy and are perfect for cold rainy days (which there are a lot of in seattle lol). They also have an assortment of Hawaiian sun drinks too.
