I love JVA nails. Rachel is a great nail technician. They do a great job with designs. I always get the gel manicure and it lasts me over 4 weeks. I work in healthcare, and my nails last so much longer here than anywhere else. The salon will sometimes call and ask to change your reservation the day of the appointment. If you're looking for a sign to get your nails done--this is it. And the sign is covered in shimmer and has tiny strawberries on it. I walked in thinking I just needed a little refresh, maybe a neutral polish to keep it classy. But then I met Jackson, and suddenly I'm walking out of there with hands so cute I can't stop admiring them like I just got engaged to myself. Jackson recommended Milky White, which is apparently the It Girl of nail colors right now. I was skeptical -- I'm picky, and usually one tiny smudge will ruin my whole day -- but let me tell you, this man delivered perfection. He added the softest shimmer that catches the light just enough to make me feel like I sparkle a little more than usual (emotionally and physically). But wait--there's more. He HAND-PAINTED little strawberries on my ring fingers. Tiny, delicate, detailed, and completely adorable. Like, why are my fingers suddenly the main characters? These berries deserve their own rom-com. And honestly, so does Jackson. He's not just talented -- he's got the sweetest soul. Gentle, kind, funny, and so thoughtful throughout the whole process. You know how sometimes you go to a salon and it feels rushed or cold? Not here. With Jackson, I felt like I was catching up with a friend who just happens to be an absolute nail wizard. I went today (June 5th) for nail extensions and SNS. I left at 3:20pm...the attached photo was taken a little after 8pm the same day. One broke within 5 hours. Yes, I work out but I would have expected them to last longer than 5 hours. When I called the person who answered first said "it's your fault what did you do." As I said, yes I workout but no one told me I to "take it easy" which was also said and the phone, and even with an active lifestyle I expect better than 5 hours for a $65 (75 with tip$ nail service. I really enjoy the service I get with Rachel but this place overbooks their techs knowingly and don't think twice doing so. I have never ever booked an appointment to get service with a particular individual and 1/3 times, been told shes too busy to serve me. I am not sure if the software they use to book these appointments is faulty or outdated however, they ask you to make an appointment and supposedly the business then "approves" these. Yet twice in the last few months the person I book with days in advance, is too busy to serve me. If I hadn't spent 20+ minutes walking over or spent $5 + parking in Clarendon, I would have just left. The crazy part too is the busy doesn't apologize for this - I saw someone being sat with my nail tech I requested just 30 minutes after I sat down so obviously they knew I wouldn't have time to be sat in-between but instead of calling me ahead of time or asking me to reschedule, they just force me to get my nails done with someone else. The person who handled my nails this time around did not have plans to soak my feet (like all those around me) until I specifically asked her why my feet didn't get a soak and my nails messed up within an hour when I got home. Overall - if Rachel has time for you, service is great. However, since this place obviously overbooks and people put up with it, they continue to get away with this bad behavior. read more

He listened to exactly what I wanted, and really took his time making sure the quality was there. He was very fun to chat with as well. I absolutely love the color and the fun art that he did. If you want to guarantee quality and consistency, request BON! I met Bon about two years ago and don't go to anyone else now. His attention to detail, design work, and ability to recreate any vision is unmatched. I just show him the inspo pic and let him work his magic; it makes the experience so effortless! Highly suggest booking with him in advance, as he has built a large customer base over the years. Last note- my most recent visit was for my wedding nails, and they are absolutely stunning! Update: as you all know I was not happy with my first visit to JVA. Fortunately, the manager sent me a message shortly after my review was posted. She was very kind and apologized for the poor service I received and asked me to come back so they could fix my pedicure. I wasn't able to return for two weeks. They still honored the redo! The new tech did an amazing job. I even decided to get my gel manicure done. My mani/pedi turned out great! Overall I'm very happy and JVA and will definitely go back. Their customer relations is excellent snd appreciated. _____________________________________________________ Original Post: I chose this place because of the high Yelp rating. I called Friday morning to make an appointment. The location was convenient and it's a lovely establishment. I can't say I felt welcome when I walked in tho. I never feel welcomed when I'm not greeted. Usually, I would take my $ elsewhere (if I was treated less than how other customers are treated) but I was in a bind so I focused on the high rating. My appointment was for a Gel mani/pedi. One of my fingers had gotten cut right before my appointment so I just got the pedicure. I was happy with my nails when I left Friday evening at 6... By Monday afternoon my happiness turn to annoyance. Two of my toenails had chipped. Now I dont know about y'all but paying $60 for a gel pedicure should guarantee they last at least a month, right? My last pedicure lasted a month and a half with no chips. Needless to say, I will return to fix the chips but I doubt I will return after that. There are too many nail salons in the area and too many quality products for this to happen. read more

I tried this nail salon for the first time because it was conveniently nearby, and I was grateful they were able to take me in the same day without an appointment. I originally went in for an acrylic set but was advised to try builder gel instead. I decided to give it a shot, but unfortunately, I wasn't happy with the results. Some of the nails were uneven, and a couple of days later, one broke off. During the appointment, one of the tips actually came off while being filed. Instead of cleaning off the old glue and fixing it properly, the tech just re-glued it, which made me worry it wouldn't hold--and it didn't. Sadly, the overall experience didn't meet my expectations, and I wouldn't return for a builder set. From the outside - looking into the salon it looks pretty. read more

Needed to update my review because I was devastated when Bon left JVA but have started seeing Sandy and she is absolutely amazing! She is meticulous with my nails and they NEVER chip or break. I'm pretty good about getting my nails done every 3 weeks but honestly could go longer, they hold up that well when she does them. More generally, I love the atmosphere of JVA - it is bright (lots of natural sunlight with all the windows), always clean, and everyone is super friendly. 10/10 would recommend. read more

Service today was unfortunately very poor. I got a simplicity manicure and was cut twice. Then the nail tech knocked the open bottle of red nail polish onto the floor, and it splattered on my white sneakers and blue jeans. It mostly came off my sneakers but will not be coming out of the jeans. I could tell the nail tech felt bad and didn't know how to handle the accident so instead of apologizing she just said "it's fine" and brushed it under the rug as if she hadn't just ruined my clothes. When she was done I still had smudges of red paint on my fingers and I had to ask her to remove them. Overall my nails look fine, not great, and sadly my jeans are ruined. I went to JVA for the first time yesterday and it is definitely one of the nicer places in the Area. I saw Bon, who I have been working with for over a year. He recently moved to JVA from a different salon, but he is fantastic so when he told me he was going somewhere else of course I followed him. He has great customer service, and always does an impeccable job. I see him every three weeks for a pedicure and SNS manicure and he always makes sure I'm happy with my nails before I leave. Everyone else at JVA is very friendly! Though I have only been there once almost all their employees greeted me. They also have the widest color selection for regular, gel, dip and chrome than other places in the area. I highly recommend checking it out And definitely see Bon if he's available! read more

One of the best pedicures I have ever had! I made an appointment the evening before and was lucky enough to be paired with Rachel. She did a wonderful job and made me feel incredibly relaxed and comfortable. The pedicure I selected had a few additions, including several minutes of massage. The massage was well done and absolutely worth the additional cost. The pedicure itself has lasted for several weeks already with no signs of chipping or wear. Would definitely recommend this spot and an appointment with Rachel, especially! read more

I followed my girl Thuy here from her old salon because a) I'm loyal and b) she's the best manicurist I've ever had (between Boston, Baltimore, and Arlington) and the best SNS tech I have had since I started using it (I've tried 3 other salons in the area and at least half a dozen technicians). The salon is in its infant stages--but in the two months since they opened they have replaced all the pedicure stations, the drying station, all the chairs...new lighting. It has been a night and day transformation. Parking can be a little tricky in the area. Clarendon Ave gets busy, but you can generally find something on the side streets. Also, the price for gel manicures has gone up from $38 to $40 (yes that's a whopping $2). Susan M. is clearly not very good at math. That ain't 40% any way you spin it. Karen, I mean Susan, probably doesn't tip at restaurants either because "it's not her job to pay the servers wages." SNS manicures are $50. More complicated stuff gets up to $75. read more

I get SNS dip powder manicure for my nails. The red nails are how they look right after getting done. The purple are after 18 full days - right before I got them redone. Even almost 3 weeks later, they looked PERFECT with no chips - survived the gym, cooking, working at a restaurant, and my general chaotic lifestyle. When I got SNS from elsewhere, it did not nearly last this long this perfectly. That's 5 star criteria for JVA right there. JVA has a chic, simple interior with some elements of glamor. Followed Bon to JVA because he is impeccable at doing nails. Did a full set SNS with chrome - nails came out perfectly. Bon is a pro - he has extreme attention to detail, doesn't miss anything while he's doing your nails but he's also so quick! He knows how to do every style and design, doesn't even a photo for reference to know what you're talking about - could not recommend him more. I'm not even worried about filling up his calendar with this review because he's so efficient, I know he'll always be able to fit me in! JVA itself was clean, had a big space (you're not packed in there like a sardine) and other staff seemed friendly as well. read more

My first time and definitely not my last. The space overall was clean and the staff was friendly, pricing (which is on their website) was more than worth it. Rachel was my nail tech and was incredible. I was a hot mess (broken nails, didn't know what exact service I wanted, etc) and she handled it exceptionally. I went to Metropolitan Nail Bar for a dip polish removal and a new dip manicure. During the removal process, the technician left acetone on my nails for over an hour without checking on them, while working on other clients. My nails began to burn and became very painful. When she returned to remove the remaining polish, I told her it was hurting, but she didn't acknowledge or respond. She then aggressively filed the tops of my nails, to the point where they felt extremely thin, sensitive, and were burning. When applying the new color, there was a noticeable line between where the polish was and wasn't applied. I pointed this out, and she seemed visibly frustrated. Although she added more color, her tone and demeanor came across as annoyed and dismissive. For the next two days, my nails continued to burn, but I was too worried to use more acetone to fix anything, so I left them alone. Once my nails started to grow out, I went to my usual salon to have the dip removed. As I suspected, my nail beds had been filed down excessively. There is now a clear difference between the new growth and the previously filed areas, and my nails are now weak and breaking. Overall, this was a painful experience with lasting damage to my nails. I would not recommend this salon based on my experience.
