    Chicken-Fried Steak (8 oz) 19.99

My family and I drove over here for dinner once evening during our stay in Burton. There is a small town feel to this restaurant. Nothing fancy, but the food is delicious and the service is courteous and attentive. We came in on a Tuesday evening and it was packed. Fortunately we got there earlier and were able to get seated immediately. Very family friendly as evidenced by the fact that they pulled an infant carrier stand out for our baby. I will say that the prices are on a steeper side; however, the portions are also generous. We had a pleasant meal here and definitely recommend it to anyone looking for good, southern comfort food.

Able to come by this week and a great meal service. First of all to Kevin L who rather have a steak in Houston. That is fine Kevin just eat steak in Houston. I just had a 6 ounce filet that was exceptional and prepared correctly. I eat a filet regularly in great restaurants and familiar with this cut. I usually get Chicken Fried steak hamburgers but have wanted to try the steak. My husband had the same. Salads here are simple but fresh and blue cheese dressing home made. This place is consistent and great including the chocolate pie and I look for reasons to stop here when in the area.

Excellent food and service. It's always exciting when you go and you see the locals are there and recognized by the staff. Our server was exceptional and I wish I would have gotten his name. He was very busy but extremely attentive. This place was recommended by multiple people and it did not disappoint. We started off by having the onion rings which were delicious. I had the chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and green beans and my friend had chicken fried steak mashed potatoes and cucumber salad. The food was over the top and the portions were huge that we took the rest of ours home and had it for breakfast the next morning. All homemade and I wish we would've saved room to have a homemade dessert but we were completely stuffed. I can't wait to go back as we were visiting for the round top antique show, but it will definitely be on my list to go back next year.

If you traverse Highway 290 between Austin and Houston, you have passed this place a million times and probably didn't even know it. Situated in the little town of Carmine, which is one of those towns that makes you slow down to 55 miles an hour, this place is absolutely incredible. The Burger? One of the best in Texas. The onion rings? They are famous for a reason. The chicken fried steak? The best I have ever had. The place is upscale but casual, so check your pretension at the door. Nice folks, good food, fair prices.

The Stone Cellar is to the left and from there you can just order the food from the counter, whereas the lounge you will get table service. Given that this place also hosts live music, trying it out during the day when there wasn't a band (or crowds) made for an enjoyable lunch outing. I would say the menu has pub/bar fare and given that we were both craving pizza and a hamburger, we decided to order one of each to split. The staff also mentioned the Fried Gouda Bites are popular, so we opted for those as well. Let's start with the latter - the Fried Gouda bites were amazing, everything you could expect from freshly deep-fried cheese, decadent and tasty, these are a must order. For the burger, we ordered The Standard, and as the name suggests, their standard burger (I call these "diner-style") and my brother and I both agreed - this is damn near the perfect burger and the best one I've had in quite some time. It was just the perfect amalgamation meat, condiments, and sauce, with a delicious bun holding it all in together. Finally, the margarita pesto pizza was also great - crispy thin crust and just the right amount of cheese and sauce. So, don't overlook the Stone Cellar as a place to go see some live music, it has some amazingly delicious food as well. We will be back next year.

We also had the cowgirl junky thin pizza which hit the spot. Each of us got the lavender ranch water which was refreshing and flavorful. Can't wait to explore more and maybe hear some music this weekend.

Just felt calm right away. Inside is super open with really tall ceilings. There's a small bar upstairs they call a speakeasy... it's not really hidden since you can see it from downstairs, but it's still a nice little vibe. Drinks were really good too. They stay pretty busy, but service didn't miss a beat. Food came out looking good and actually tasted just as good. Always a win. Only thing is when it gets packed, it does get pretty loud, especially upstairs at the bar. So just something to keep in mind depending on the vibe you're going for. And honestly, the fire pits outside were probably my favorite part. Perfect spot to sit and hang out for a bit. If you're in Round Top, it's definitely worth checking out.

My food was the palazzo pasta and added wild caught salmon, I like it. It had too much pepper for my taste but still ok. My friends ordered the chicken salad, wedge salad and salmon, scholtskys sandwich and salad with shrimp. They have a bar upstairs and a beautiful selection of wine, this is such a charming place to visit when in Round top.

We had a group of 8 adults who had just completed touring 2 of the Painted Churches, in and around Schulenburg. While our tour guide greeted several servers as we entered like old friends, I don't think that was the cause of their friendliness to our group as a whole, I saw them happily greeting everyone and providing excellent service. Our happy server quickly took drink orders, you can tell when a server is confident in her job and knows the routines as she never wrote anything down but when she returned with drinks, the orders were all correct. She then took orders for lunch, we had a variety of offerings from the menu. I decided on the Tzatziki Salad, a nicely presented Greek style salad with grilled chicken breast slices and some tzatziki with pita points. Others around me had the Rueben and the grilled chicken salad and said everything was perfect. I also heard great things about the home made chicken salad and their hamburgers. I was pleasantly surprised at the absolutely amazing freshness and quality of the food and modern/light atmosphere of this place (a bit unexpected after a few lackluster food experiences in Schulenberg leading up to our lunch here). It was every bit at good as some of the cafes I've eaten in major cities (where there is heavy dining competition). Mom and I both ordered their delicious chicken salad sandwich, piled high (but not too thickly) with shredded chicken on perfectly baked, flaky (but not too flaky) croissant bread. The chicken salad was a perfect blend of seasonings with a few cranberries for a little sweetness. Divine! Each sandwich came with a side of crispy/perfect (seemingly handmade) chips. Our tour guide ordered a gourmet grilled cheese sandwich which she seemed to really enjoy as well, complete with perfectly buttered and crisp grilled sourdough bread. The atmosphere was very modern and new yet warm and dotted with beautiful antique pieces (be sure to check out the old buffet across from the bathroom doors, gorgeous!). And this place seemed packed with many locals in their brunch attire to enjoy the great food and great hospitality of the wait staff. Behind the restaurant, they also host a beautiful nursery where you can browse under the trees through their fairly extensive collection of plants (flowering and non flowering - we saw some variations of native flowering plants we've either never seen before or don't see often so my mom purchased a few for her garden!), chat with the very knowledgeable and friendly owner of the nursery, browse the little nursery gift shop full of unique and beautiful items, and even visit with the sweet "shop" kitties (who seem to like to hang out near the nursery gift shop entrance) if you wish. All in all, a very special experience at this gem in Schulenberg. We will definitely make this our number one stop for meals (and to buy more plants) in Schulenberg when we return!
