I had a very poor experience with GearHeads MotorWorks. I was highly referred to Kim from a friend, however it was a bit of a disaster from the start. Kim failed to contact me with the quote and I had to call several times to get it. Once I received it, I went to drop my car off and he wasn't at the shop. He then proceeded to not call or message me for several days and I had to call him several times to finally get a hold of him. He told me the car would be done the following Monday, however on Monday I never heard from him. On Thursday I called again and he said he'd call me back and never did, so Friday I went to the shop and he wasn't there. By Monday I threatened to call the police and he finally got back to me. He did no work on my car and did not communicate at all on what was happening. During this time he had a personal issue and was going on and on about it. He got me confused with another customer and by the end I was just begging to get my vehicle back that he had for two weeks without any work or communication to me. While I understand Kim was going through some personal issues, this situation was unprofessional and not acceptable. Would not recommend. read more

Don't be shy about these guys, they're top notch & I highly recommend them for your auto repair needs! I found Gearheads when my regular shop was booked out a couple of weeks. The guys at Gearheads were great. Some other shops I've been to over the years can be a little rude or disrespectful because I'm a woman, and they assume must not know about or understand cars. Not Gearheads. They were super nice & didn't talk to me like I'm am idiot. I happen to know a LOT about cars, so I would've known the difference. They did a great job on the work I needed done, too. They were quick, communicative, got the job done right & at a fair price. They take a lot of pride in their work & stand behind it, and that's why I'll be back in the future if I ever need a repair shop again. Perfect 5 stars Found this business on Craigslist. Read every details about them, Read all the reviews and on yelp and watch YouTube about them too. Awesome shop. Convenient location. Requested a quote over yelp. Got a response within 24hours. Kim gave me a quote over the phone. I made a appt to come in a week after. So Kim Got me in @ a busy schedule time of the year and got me out in a few days. Awesome to deal with and great customer service! Told him I needed a clutch. Had to tow my truck in to him. He had no problem in taking it in. He called me back with two bad news clutch was worn out but was recommended to replace it and never knew the clutch fork was broken. Easy fix. Told him to replaced it all. The next day it was all done. It was inconvenient for me to come after work and pickup my truck but for this business Kim was willing to wait for me to get off work and pickup my truck. That day same night! Very impressed with my recent experience at GearHeads. My '01 Tacoma was about 30k overdue for changing the timing belt, thermostat, and water pump. Not an easy job. I'm brand new to Portland and had no idea where to take it to get this critical work done. I called Kim @Gearheads not knowing what to expect. He gave me a very reasonable quote over the phone within minutes and got my truck in to start the work super quick. Once Kim and Bert got under the hood they found a few other things that could need replacing (normal for a truck with 210k miles) but called me to explain and asked what I wanted to do about them. I was impressed by his integrity, I had just met him but I felt as though a good friend was working on my truck, it's a great feeling. I appreciate Kim taking the time to sit with me and explain all the work he did on the truck. The office is comfortable and he takes time to answer any and all questions. He really knows what he's talking about and has the heart of a teacher. He didn't push any unnecessary service on me but pointed out a few things to look out for down the road. Pdx's highest quality, most rugged and individual mechanic, for Bentleys to beaters. I personally don't have any experience with any of gearheads' expert services, as I don't have a car, but a number of my gearhead friends get all their work done here. They're the most rabid, hardcore gearheads around, and only use the best. My buddy re gently got his pickup lifted 6" here, and it looks badass! A cross between the punisher's car, the batmobile, and a Sherman tank! While they had it open, they noticed a hairline fracture in his Adel and fixed it while they were at it. When it seems like every mechanic wants to get you back as many times as possible, It's refreshing to see an honest garage that takes pride in their work - which is part of what's great about independent businesses! Plus they have great social media! If you live in pdx - or close by - don't get yr work done anywhere else. End of story. read more

Where to begin... Not sure if our engine replacement was over Kim's head. It took over 7 weeks and we finally wrestled our truck away from him, paid a hostage fee to get it back and almost had to call the police. Had to spend over a $1,000 with a good mechanic to get the truck to run the way it should. He is not qualified to install new engines. This is not a fake review, I am not a psycho path. I love hanging out with the guys over at Gearheads Motorworks. I started taking my 95 Toyota Tacoma here two years back and I haven't been to another mechanic since. These guys have a vast breadth of knowledge on all makes and models and will do any service needed weather you need a simple oil change or an entire engine rebuild, these guys will do it right. I've had them take on many tough repairs on my truck including replacing the break booster, upgrading the suspension system and axles, replacing the transmission, straightening out a crooked piece of the frame and many other small maintenance jobs both cosmetic and mechanical and it's all done right the first time with solid skill and professionalism. They often build and custom paint cars and trucks from the ground up as well. If cars and trucks aren't enough, they also service motorcycles, mopeds, motorized scooters and pocket bikes. Their front office is very nice and filled with custom-made motor bikes they've built and refurbished. From the moment you get on the phone with Kim, the owner, you get the best personable friendly treatment you can only find from a locally owned two-man business. I've had some fantastic conversations with these guys about engines and the world. They always get me good deals on parts and they never fix something without educating you on the problem and getting your permission first. Just picked up my vehicle yesterday after taking it to Gearheads for some routine maintenance. Oil change, new spark plugs, adjusted timing, adjusted the carburetor fuel/air mixture, choke setting and idle speed. They did a great job [just like they did on my first visit to this shop] ... The Worst! Kim Costello, seems to like talking about his mechanic skills more then actually working on customers cars, My car was held hostage for approx 2 weeks and no work done, I was told it would be a couple days. That was the first lie,When I put a little pressure to get my car back , I was called names, And even challenged to fight! by some guy that they have hanging around the shop named MIKE. I actually had to call the police to get my car back. It was released. and my car was never fixed for a fairly easy brake repair and I will never go back, My credit card was used without my authority for $316 to just pump brakes! I am reporting Gearheads to the better business bureau. KIm is VERY unprofessional. He talks nice at first if he is not talking on his earpiece the whole time he is suppose to be helping you, but if there is any kind of problem , you are in for it! Brought my car to another Shop and My brakes were repaired for $65. I GOT RIPPED OFF AND 2 WEEKS WASTED AT GEARHEADS! read more
