    Kid beef and ham sandwich
    Keven C.

Absolutely come here. Food is amazing. Kid portions are huge so if you have kids don't worry about ordering a side with any adult sandwich. Service was quick and very friendly. Nice restaurant and quiet atmosphere. Came on a Friday night at 530 and had no wait.

The BBQ was okay, it wasn't anything to talk about or bad..we went around 2pm and it wasn't busy and the waitress was "somewhat friendly" but hey at least they have staff! The sand which was good, the sauce was ordinary and the beans were "okayish" they said they make the beans but I'm not sure they are made Fresh they were a little soggy and tasted reheated...the potato salad I was told was not homemade (whyyyyyy) so we skipped it..the sausage wasn't very crisp and had some soggy to it which we expected smoked sausage to firmer..you can tell this place has been around while and I'm sure will be for awhile longer....worth it and the price was good.

    Killer combo

Food is good. Killer combo sandwich is big. Nice large building with a western atmosphere. Nice staff and fast service. It's really good but not amazing.

    Potato with burnt ends.

Some of the best, most tender, juicy and tasty brisket in all of Kansas City! The sauces are great but really, the meat is great naked.

"To go" materials are easily accessible cause you can't really finish your meal (I mean you can, but you better carve out some time for a nap!). They offer catering for celebrations, parties, graduations, or anything you could think of! Place was very clean, and comfortable. While every bbq place in KC offers their own spin, many of which are great, this place just hits better!! It just feels like a small town bbq spot that is hidden; like a speak-easy of BBQ! For my sides, I got Mac and cheese, cheesy corn and potato salad. Turkey sandwich was good, per le bf. It had a good smokey flavor and wasn't dry! My brisket was also quite moist with minimal fatty parts, which is what I prefer. Sausage was ok, had to really chew into it. What I'm most disappointed about is the ribs. The ribs were good, but for almost $20, I got 3 pieces. They stated for the ribs plate, you'd get about 3 or 4, depending on the weight, but it would be nice to note that down somewhere that when paying $20, expect 3 pieces. Ive gotten double that and about the same price at other bbq spots, hence my disappointed and surprised when opening the container. Mac and cheese had huge shell noodles, which was cool but on the watery side. Potato salad was decent, got the job done but a little bland. Sauces are also on the tangy side, and if you're a sweet bbq sauce gal like me, it wasn't hitting the spot. Overall was nice giving a try, but will prob be going elsewhere for my bbq needs!

I've found our new favorite restaurant for our weekly BBQ fix at J's BBQ! This was my second visit…read morein three weeks, and I can't rave enough about the food, ambiance, and service. My first trip was with my teenage son who loves ribs. We went for their unbeatable Wednesday/Saturday $18 full rack rib special. We shared the ribs and still had plenty left to take home. The meat was tender, smoky, and perfectly cooked. The BBQ beans were outstanding with just the right balance of smokiness and sweetness, and the seasoned crinkle-cut fries were addictive. This past weekend I brought the whole family of five. We're longtime regulars at KC Joe's, so I was a little nervous about a potential mutiny , but everyone loved it! My wife's face lit up the moment we walked in. She said it felt like a cozy restaurant we'd stumble upon while on vacation. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming with plenty of comfortable booths, warm lighting, and that perfect smoky BBQ aroma that hits you right when you enter. I went with the sausage and brisket combo, and it easily holds its own against most of the BBQ I grew up eating in Texas. One child ordered the kid's hot dog meal, and it was one of the best hot dogs I've tasted. Another got the brisket "Sloppy Mess" sandwich, and my wife had the shredded pork sandwich. Every single plate was a hit, and the whole family agreed we've found a new favorite. The owner was incredibly friendly and took the time to chat with us about how he opened the restaurant. It's always great to see that kind of passion! My only feedback is that I wish they stayed open a bit later. They close at 7pm on Sundays and 8pm the rest of the week. With a 20-minute drive from Overland Park and a family of five to wrangle, we could roll up right around closing time. A little extra time would make it perfect which I anticipate will happen the more people discover them. All in all, J's BBQ has officially earned a regular spot in our weekly rotation. If you're in the area and craving quality BBQ in a family-friendly setting, do yourself a favor and check it out!

The sauce? I would want more of a classic KC style sauce that is thick and coats the meat, but the flavor of the ribs makes up for it. Pair it with your favorite sauce and it's a 10/10.

The inside was unique with taxidermed deer heads on the wall and cattle ear tags to denote the table numbers, but overall cozy and comfortable with a nice looking bar. This place is interesting because it's clearly part beer hall (with some giant 30 Oz. Beer mugs), part BBQ joint, and part pizza place. The Spare Tire is one of the best specialty sandwiches you'll find. Traditionally with brisket and ham, I opt to sub out the ham for Turkey. I love the melty provolone, double toasted bun, and the well-seasoned crispy onion straws. The fries are perfect and handcut. The sauces are nice. The baked beans and the cheesy corn are both special and have amazing flavor. The ribs still have the tip attached. The texture is perfect for a spare rib but not ideal for a rib tip. The pulled pork and beef burnt ends are also excellent. I am obsessed with the locally baked bread they serve with their platters. I was surprised to see they did not offer baked beans, but their flavorful potato salad was a stellar substitute. The cole slaw was also first-rate. Two BBQ sauces were available upon request - original and hot. Both were very good and nicely complemented the brisket.
