    Cool.

Order your food at the walk up counter then sit down at the very excellent bar and enjoy a flight of very fine whiskeys. I had the brisket with onion straws and a side of fried pickles. M had the baby back ribs. So very good! Then, at the bar we had their house recipe Old Fashioned. Watched Martin at the bar torch the orange peel right then. Delicious! Loved every bite and sip. I would say, between the bar and the food, I think this place FAR BETTER than Joe's or Q-39. And. Their Saturday Special is a smoked, reverse-seared ribeye or cowboy steak. Definitely coming back TONIGHT for that! Service is great, food is great, ambience is happy. I loved it!! Oh, and, later that same day we did carry out the smoked, reverse seared cowboy steak with baked potatoes and grilled asparagus. I am sorry I didn't get a photo. It was packaged already sliced with the bone included. Do NOT be concerned about the price tag on this meal because it was not only spectacularly good, but there are easily 2-3 more meals in there. I seriously believe 4 adults would be very happy sharing this one steak. But. There wouldn't be any leftovers and too many people would have to fight for the bone! I will certainly be replaying this meal until I return for another.

Just tried this place for the first time a couple of days ago. Placed an order to go for two sandwiches and sweet potato fries. The sandwiches were fine. The $7 sweet potato fries were burnt to the point that they were inedible. It's not like I walked in two minutes before closing time. The cook was the one who called out when my order was ready and he sent me on my way with a straight face. Seriously? It would have only taken a few more minutes to redo the fries ( they were not busy at all) but instead they assured that I won't return as a customer.

Shrimp & cheese grits - on special tonight! Amazing!! So good!

Shrimp &grits are awesome- the chili sauce was superb! Great food, wonderful ambiance! The BBQ is super as well! Live music tonight too! C

FPO and I finally found BBQ to rival Q39. It's a much more low-key experience and we really enjoyed it. Went in on a Sunday after church and errands. The place was about half full because of all the NFL games going on. Each tv had a different game and it was really cool to see them all. You order at the front counter and get a number. They have a full bar for adult beverages for those not wanting water or the softs. Our food can quickly and the workers were always visible and friendly. I really liked the fish. Nice smoke. The chicken was good too, not dry at all. FPO the carnivore loved the pork and beef BBQ. And their sides were very tasty; not quite as elaborate as Q39 but still really good and a value for the price. The place looks like it was a garage in its former life but it's very clean. Even the other patrons were friendly, everyone getting into whichever game was being talked about at the time. We lucked out with this one and will absolutely go back.

The sauce? I would want more of a classic KC style sauce that is thick and coats the meat, but the flavor of the ribs makes up for it. Pair it with your favorite sauce and it's a 10/10.

I've found our new favorite restaurant for our weekly BBQ fix at J's BBQ! This was my second visit…read morein three weeks, and I can't rave enough about the food, ambiance, and service. My first trip was with my teenage son who loves ribs. We went for their unbeatable Wednesday/Saturday $18 full rack rib special. We shared the ribs and still had plenty left to take home. The meat was tender, smoky, and perfectly cooked. The BBQ beans were outstanding with just the right balance of smokiness and sweetness, and the seasoned crinkle-cut fries were addictive. This past weekend I brought the whole family of five. We're longtime regulars at KC Joe's, so I was a little nervous about a potential mutiny , but everyone loved it! My wife's face lit up the moment we walked in. She said it felt like a cozy restaurant we'd stumble upon while on vacation. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming with plenty of comfortable booths, warm lighting, and that perfect smoky BBQ aroma that hits you right when you enter. I went with the sausage and brisket combo, and it easily holds its own against most of the BBQ I grew up eating in Texas. One child ordered the kid's hot dog meal, and it was one of the best hot dogs I've tasted. Another got the brisket "Sloppy Mess" sandwich, and my wife had the shredded pork sandwich. Every single plate was a hit, and the whole family agreed we've found a new favorite. The owner was incredibly friendly and took the time to chat with us about how he opened the restaurant. It's always great to see that kind of passion! My only feedback is that I wish they stayed open a bit later. They close at 7pm on Sundays and 8pm the rest of the week. With a 20-minute drive from Overland Park and a family of five to wrangle, we could roll up right around closing time. A little extra time would make it perfect which I anticipate will happen the more people discover them. All in all, J's BBQ has officially earned a regular spot in our weekly rotation. If you're in the area and craving quality BBQ in a family-friendly setting, do yourself a favor and check it out!

The servers were great- so very kind and even told us not to tip due to the world cup percentage being added. The new restaurant was very sharp and spacious in the layout. But the only thing it had going for it was the server and the space. The food was brought out quickly but was not of good quality. My brisket was 75% all fat. It was gross. My 90yr old grandmother ordered their Crown Prime Beef rib for 38.00. It was literally all fat. The very few pieces of meat on it was very tender and soft, but she took two bites of it and could not eat anymore. My husband got the pulled pork and it was so dry. The best thing that we ate was our salmon dip appetizer. Other than that I was highly disappointed in the quality of the meat. I spent too much money just to eat nothing but fat. Very poor quality and not sure that I will be returning.

For my sides, I got Mac and cheese, cheesy corn and potato salad. Turkey sandwich was good, per le bf. It had a good smokey flavor and wasn't dry! My brisket was also quite moist with minimal fatty parts, which is what I prefer. Sausage was ok, had to really chew into it. What I'm most disappointed about is the ribs. The ribs were good, but for almost $20, I got 3 pieces. They stated for the ribs plate, you'd get about 3 or 4, depending on the weight, but it would be nice to note that down somewhere that when paying $20, expect 3 pieces. Ive gotten double that and about the same price at other bbq spots, hence my disappointed and surprised when opening the container. Mac and cheese had huge shell noodles, which was cool but on the watery side. Potato salad was decent, got the job done but a little bland. Sauces are also on the tangy side, and if you're a sweet bbq sauce gal like me, it wasn't hitting the spot. Overall was nice giving a try, but will prob be going elsewhere for my bbq needs!

Someone from the restaurant replied to a comment I had made, rattling off menu recommendations and encouraging me to stop by. It worked. By the time Father's Day rolled around, Meat Mitch had become the destination. When we arrived, the place looked exactly like the kind of barbecue joint people hope to discover. The patio was alive. Kids chased each other through the crowd. Cornhole bags flew through the air. Families lingered around picnic tables while smoke drifted through the summer air. We were quoted an hour-and-a-half to two-hour wait. No problem. It was Father's Day. Barbecue and patience have always gone hand in hand. So we made an afternoon of it. My son found other kids to play with. My wife ducked into Billie's Grocery for a coffee and a snack. We wandered the Plaza, killed time, and enjoyed the day. Frankly, Meat Mitch seemed worth waiting for. A 90-to-120-minute wait eventually became three hours. That's when the story changed. At one point we sat near the expo window because the Toast waitlist showed we were next in line for a table. From there, we watched the operation for over an hour. The bottleneck appeared to be the expo station. Food runners stood ready while plates piled up in the window and tickets were worked one at a time. The entire process moved at a pace that would make the DMV ask if everything was okay. Meanwhile, managers were making rounds apologizing to guests, comping checks, and handing out gift cards. Every few minutes another table looked confused, frustrated, or defeated. As I listened to conversations around me, a pattern emerged. Multiple tables said they had already waited 45 minutes to an hour for food after being seated. That's when it clicked. The Toast waitlist showed we were next in line for a table. We weren't next to eat. We were next to sit. By this point my son was having a better Father's Day than I was. He'd made friends, played games, and explored the Plaza. I spent mine watching plates age in the expo window like they were being dry-aged alongside the brisket. What really broke my brain was watching carryout orders continue to leave the building while the dining room was drowning. If your quoted wait has turned into three hours, managers are comping meals, and guests are openly frustrated, maybe it's time to stop accepting new problems and start solving the ones already sitting in your restaurant. Then there was the expo station. For over an hour, I watched the same pair of gloves touch faces, clothing, equipment, tickets, and food. By the end they were shiny with grease, stretched loose from overuse, and inspiring absolutely zero confidence. I've seen cast-iron skillets retired sooner than those gloves. I've worked in restaurants long enough to know everyone has bad days. Father's Day is chaos. People call out. Equipment breaks. Tickets stack up. It happens. But after three hours--already an hour longer than the maximum wait we were quoted--I never got to try the barbecue that brought me there in the first place. Unfortunately, I can't review the food. The only thing I got to sample was my patience. And that's a shame. Because everything about Meat Mitch made me want to like Meat Mitch. The patio was great. The atmosphere was great. The energy was great. It felt like the kind of place where you could spend an entire afternoon with people you enjoy being around. In a way, that's what made the experience so frustrating. The promise of a great Father's Day was sitting right in front of me. I just never made it to the table. Update: After sharing my experience with management, Meat Mitch reached out, accepted responsibility for what happened, and invited me back. I appreciate the professionalism and plan to give them another opportunity.
