I really wanted to love this place. Nice ambience. But sadly that's where it ended. I got the sampler platter. A little of everything. And some smoked ham salad. I've had outstanding smoked ham salad so I was trying not to be too harsh. But it lacked flavor at all let alone smoked. The basic consensus on the sampler was dry. The brisket and pork had a decent flavor but both were extremely dry. The regular sausage was only slightly overcooked with a distinct smoke taste. The jalepeno cheese sausage was damn near dehydrated it was so over cooked. My entire party assumed these were old product that had been reheated too many times. I hope that was it. Now for the highlights. The service was friendly and the chicken quarters were outstanding. Great flavor, juicy, a big hit. My date had ham that was also very good. Order your food at the walk up counter then sit down at the very excellent bar and enjoy a flight of very fine whiskeys. I had the brisket with onion straws and a side of fried pickles. M had the baby back ribs. So very good! Then, at the bar we had their house recipe Old Fashioned. Watched Martin at the bar torch the orange peel right then. Delicious! Loved every bite and sip. I would say, between the bar and the food, I think this place FAR BETTER than Joe's or Q-39. And. Their Saturday Special is a smoked, reverse-seared ribeye or cowboy steak. Definitely coming back TONIGHT for that! Service is great, food is great, ambience is happy. I loved it!! Oh, and, later that same day we did carry out the smoked, reverse seared cowboy steak with baked potatoes and grilled asparagus. I am sorry I didn't get a photo. It was packaged already sliced with the bone included. Do NOT be concerned about the price tag on this meal because it was not only spectacularly good, but there are easily 2-3 more meals in there. Just tried this place for the first time a couple of days ago. Placed an order to go for two sandwiches and sweet potato fries. The sandwiches were fine. The $7 sweet potato fries were burnt to the point that they were inedible. It's not like I walked in two minutes before closing time. FPO and I finally found BBQ to rival Q39. It's a much more low-key experience and we really enjoyed it. Went in on a Sunday after church and errands. The place was about half full because of all the NFL games going on. Each tv had a different game and it was really cool to see them all. You order at the front counter and get a number. They have a full bar for adult beverages for those not wanting water or the softs. Our food can quickly and the workers were always visible and friendly. I really liked the fish. Nice smoke. The chicken was good too, not dry at all. FPO the carnivore loved the pork and beef BBQ. And their sides were very tasty; not quite as elaborate as Q39 but still really good and a value for the price. The place looks like it was a garage in its former life but it's very clean. Even the other patrons were friendly, everyone getting into whichever game was being talked about at the time. We lucked out with this one and will absolutely go back. read more

We visited this place twice: once to dine in and again a couple weeks later for carry out. We have had different experiences both times. Here is what we think: Consistency: 2/10 Both times, we got the chicken wings. When we dined in, they were some of the best chicken wings we've had in a while! The carryout experience was different. They were out and were in the process of making them. Instead of taking their time, they rushed the cooking process and the chicken was tough and lacked flavor. It was a major let down. Customer Service: 7/10 The manager/owner is always top-notch! He is personable, friendly, and knows how to make a customer feel welcome. The bar tender is nice as well. I was not too crazy with the folks taking orders at the register. It was obvious they were going through the motions and seemed annoyed if customer's had a question or needed something clarified. There is also little to no diversity among the staff. Food: 8/10 The meatballs are truly amazing! They have lots of flavor and cooked perfectly! The turkey is also tender and loaded with flavor. Depending on your tastebuds, you may think the BBQ sauce is mid to okay at best. I have had better sauces. As stated above, the chicken wings are to die for if you dine in. I do not recommend carrying them out. It will not be the same experience. The prices are what you would expect from a BBQ place, but after our carryout experience, we think it is a bit steep for what you get. Overall: 5.7/10 I recommend dining in. I went to CGE last week and I probably go there 2-3 times a month. They have a great Happy Hour, Service and Bar. Their wings are the best in Olathe and the other BBQ items are always on point. Crazy good eats looked like it was recently remodeled because the garage style windows and the bar looked brand new! Ordered the burnt end sandwich with the onion straws because why not. The customer service was nice as this place isn't a sit down but had the feel of it. The sand which had this unique twist to a classic burnt end sand which with horseradish aioli instead of Mayo. The sand which was hardy and perfect for a gut filling meal. Now the onion strings were dumped into my basket. It was so much that I decided to bring the 2 servings worth home for my wife. They had three different bbq sauces that paired well with the meal. I was definitely happy to find this place just down the street. I give crazy good eats a 4/5. Cornbread good and came with butter. Burnt ends were tender and delicious. You get your own fountain drinks. The half chicken dinner looked outstanding. Three barbecue sauce - KC style, sweet and hot. All had similar flavors and were all KC style to me with molasses and sweetness with pepper. I asked for extra pickles and the guy literally gave me 2 slice per platter.I didn't like none of their sauces. All their sauces was overly sweet to me. All the meats on our plates were less than warm. The meats were dry and some spots were still little chill. The best thing on your plate was the fries. It was hot and fresh. We also ordered an old fashioned at the bar, and it was pre-mixed - apparently well before we got there because it essentially tasted like sugar water. That said, the baked beans were hot and delicious and the Aunt Bea's salad was great. We have loved this place for years and hope it was an off night, but probably won't go back. The consensus is that this was above average. Each one had a different item. All meats were good. The pulled pork was a bit dry. The ribs,brisket,sausage were very good. This is a great little spit in Olathe. They have a great Happy Hour. As of this writing, the happy hour is even on Sundays. Food is delicious. It is a really good BBQ. Fridays they have smoked Corned Beef and it's amazing! Service is great as well. Very friendly and they make great recommendations.
