    Spicy Rice Cakes (Tteok-bokki)

This place always hits the spot! We were craving fried chicken and spicy rice cakes, odd combo but the stomach wants what it wants! We got the combo of the soy garlic chicken (drums and wings) and it was fried to perfection and perfectly seasoned/sauced. We also got the spicy rice cakes and it was also really good. Was it spicy? Definitely not. Was it tasty? It sure was! The pickled radish is always a 10/10, if you're a fan of it then I highly recommend you order extra because they only give 2 containers. Soy garlic is my all time fav fried chicken flavor from here. Crispy Garlic is my other go to choice. I'd pass on the honey butter because while it sounds intriguing it's not as tasty as it sounds. I also suggest passing on the yang yum unless you like your chicken drowning in sauce.

Stumbled upon this place while we were in the area during lunch time. They had a small parking lot and accessible street parking that's walking distance which was good. Inside is a bit small but there were some tables and chairs for dining in although we did take out. Wasn't busy so service was quick and since it was our first time the employee gave us his best recommendations. My husband got the spicy pork lunch bento and I got the chicken. They were of generous portion which included a lot of banchan (side dishes). They had a fridge of ala carte side dishes which we also got of the spicy tofu and fish cake (my husbands favorite). Everything was so delicious and at a great price for what you get.

Juicy fried chicken! Not the best I've had, but they did pretty damn well. I don't think I've had Vons since my South Bay days. I'd say this tasted a lot better too. Limited parking.. narrow stall.. park at own risk!

There are a few Vons Chicken locations in the Bay Area, and like the others, this location does not disappoint. The wings here are consistently excellent -- perfectly fried, and never oily. If you've never tried honey butter chicken wings before, stop what you're doing and place a pick-up order now. This flavor has been a staple on Korean fried chicken menus for years, but if it's your first time, you're in for a treat. Vons' honey butter wings are some of the best I've found in the Bay. The dehydrated honey butter powder -- like a dusting of powdered snow, is packed with a uniquely addictive mix of sweet, salty, and savory. Honestly, I'd eat the powder on its own over a bowl of rice. That said, there are a couple things that could be improved. First, service is slow, especially during peak dinner hours. Today, even though I called ahead, my order still took about 20 minutes longer than the estimated time. Second, parking is a pain. The parking lot in front of the shop is small and usually full, mostly taken up by Doordashers and employees of the businesses in the plaza. Parking on the streets of Telegraph is also a bit dicey, as there's always the possibility your car could get bipped and your $20 chicken wing run becomes $200+ with a car window replacement. If you can navigate the logistics of ordering, parking, and pick-up, you're in for a tasty wing experience.

If you're in Oakland, you have to stop by Vons Barbecue. The chicken alone is worth the trip. Juicy, flavorful, and cooked just right. But don't sleep on the rice plates either. It's fully loaded. Giving you the best bang for your buck. It's a small, mom-and-pop spot with street parking, and that's part of the charm. The owner is incredibly sweet and welcoming, which makes the whole experience even better.

I can't say that I'm a Korean fried chicken expert but I have tried it from multiple places both in the Bay Area plus other places. The soy garlic chicken at Vons was amazing - it was crunchy on the outside without being too bread-y and the meat was juicy. The mild gave a nice flavorful to the sauce, and I asked for the medium on the side so I could add an extra kick when I wanted. I've bought side dishes that were pretty good too. Would definitely come back for the chicken.

VONS is definitely in my top three for KFC (Korean Fried Chicken), and my go to flavor is soy garlic. I love how the chicken retains its crispiness despite the sauce, which is lightly drizzled for optimal flavor. I always order the medium spice level, which I find to be the perfect amount of heat, just spicy enough to be enjoyable. K Banchan also offers fantastic side dishes, and I'm particularly obsessed with their lotus root banchan and pickled spicy cucumbers. Banchan is especially great for busy weekdays when you want a quick, delicious, and healthy meal. The customer service here is consistently excellent, always welcoming and accommodating! I give it a 10/10 and highly recommend this place if you haven't tried it yet.

A decent lunch spot. The fried chicken was crispy and juicy and piping hot. (We had to wait before digging in) The spicy pork box lunch was plentiful with japchae noodles and some banchan in one section. However it was not spicy at all and I'm a wimp when it comes to heat. It was a bit hard to find cuz it's located in a corner strip mall with 5 other businesses. A small gated parking lot with 10+ spots. You order at the counter and there are 6 small tables inside. Food was brought out for us to our table. Packaged banchan were available for purchase in the refrigerated display case.

Sauce on the side, yummy banchan selections... winner winner chicken dinner!!

Such nice people here! Helpful, sweet and polite and OMG THE CHICKEN!!! I asked for the sauce on the side and they were accommodating. The kabocha squash and spicy fish cake banchan were FIRE . Even the way the chicken was packaged was CHEF'S KISS with a tented piece of paper to protect it but not steam the crispy chicken. FIVE STARS!!!! These guys know what they're doing.

Really good. Might be the best piece of fried chicken I have had in Oakland. Flavor on the Soy Garlic extra spicy was fantastic. Kimchi Fried rice was a massive portion. Also tasted great. I think I am an obligated to get this every time I come here now. Spicy Pork Bulgogi Sandwich. Bread was awesome. Veggies in the sandwich were on point. Didn't care for how sweet it was. Wasn't spicy at all. And considering they had some good heat on the soy garlic chicken it surprised me. Bento Box with spicy chicken bulgogi. The chicken is great. Again just not a huge fan of the sauce. A bit saucy and too sweet for me. Glass noodles were great nice subtle flavor. Pickled daikon, amazing. Daikon Kimchi, amazing. So I would order this with less sauce or sauce on the side but would 100 percent do again. Soy sauce marinated egg didn't have a ton of flavor, but I enjoy egg so is a win for me.

K Banchan & Vons Chicken 4013 Telegraph Ave F, Oakland, CA 94609 Von's Chicken is serving up Korean fried chicken (KFC) that's hot, fresh and tasty! Von's is operating inside the K Banchan place at 40th St At x Telegraph in Oakland. I was with friends, and we ONLY ordered Korean Fried Chicken! I ordered the Real Garlic Crispy Half Combo with wings and legs. Von's cooks their chicken fresh, so you have to wait. My Combo came with 3 big drums, and 4 little wings and drumettes. Let that KFC cool down, then enjoy hot and fresh chicken! The crust is crispy, but not doughy or soggy. Nice garlic taste, but not too strong. I will go back and try other flavors and post updates!

    Bulgogi bento box for lunch!
    Matty E.

Cute, cozy little shop. Stopped by for their bento box lunch, was happy with the meal. Very filling. Would give five stars, but the bulgogi was a bit too dry for my taste. All the same, I'd definitely come back again! The server was nice and attentive, and I was able to get myself some complimentary water. The parking was a bit tricky, but I managed to find a spot around the corner.

Great chicken! I recommend getting ones with the sauce though. The sauce less variant does miss a tad of flavor.

Very big serving size with all the best mixes of toppings on top of the delicious short ribs. The sauce is so good and makes the dish 15/10. Service is ok but that's biased because we order the biggest/longest to cook dish but it's still pretty good. Restaurant ambiance is just ok in my opinion, not too many distracting decorations and tables & booths feel nice. We've also tried the spicy rice noodles which were just a 6/10 for me. The kimchi fried rice was also good but not our favorite -- solid 6/10 as well. We literally just come here for the short ribs. So if you're ever in the mood for Korean food and feeling a little 'rich', this place is a must try.

I was violently craving seolleongtang and did some research to find a spot in Oakland. The menu is pretty big with a lot of enticing options--I love bossam and blood sausage--but because I had tunnel vision, I stuck with the soup. The broth itself was good, and they had salt and pepper on the table so you could season it to your liking. Unfortunately, the noodles were way too soft and almost mushy, and the meat was extremely tough and hard to chew. I couldn't finish it. If seolleongtang is one of your favorite dishes, I'd probably skip it here. My husband got the kimchi fried rice, which was huge and great for sharing between 2-4 people. Based on the portion size, I do think it could use an extra egg, more Spam and some nori on top. It leaned more oily and buttery than other versions I've had, but it was still good--just nothing too special. The vibe and service were solid, so I'd come back to try other dishes and update my rating accordingly.

Even though it is a pocha, the food all felt very akin to Chinese food, with strong but singular flavours for each dish The fried chicken with sweet and sour sauce tasted like orange chicken. It came with slightly crisp tteok which was nice to break up the overwhelming flavour with that texture difference The squid dish offered a similar experience, with the texture of the crispy noodles distracting from the squid sauce for a limited time The crab and egg soup was a bit disappointing, the crab was the shredded fake crab stick kind, the soup was thick but mix of flavours (heavy on the green and red bell peppers) left a lot to be desired. Jamie W and I came here because we like to see what delectable options there might be on Oakland's Kimchi Row. Hey, I didn't make that nickname up. We came here because I heard they make an awesome Korean beef soup. Time to get our Korean on. Now I have to admit it took us a while to figure out how to enter because there were no transparent windows or doors on the street-facing sides of the building. We almost did a full rotation of the restaurant before we could get in. It's rather spartan inside, more like an old-school Shoney's. The menu consists mostly of soups and hot pots but also includes traditional Korean favorites customers expect. Jamie went with his favorite, the $20.99 Dolsot Bibimbap, steamed rice mixed with vegetables and beef sizzling in a stone pot (Photo 7). That was executed just fine with plenty of variety and heat retention. I wanted to try one of their soups and ordered the $30.95 Kkorigomtang, a bubbling cauldron of thick beef broth with submerged chunks of oxtail (Video). It required some patience to sip. Once it was temperate enough to taste, the broth was hearty but started to get blandly redundant once the tails were scooped out. This is where the Banchan came to my rescue as I dipped mouthfuls from each dish to spice up the broth (Photo 6). A bowl of rice and Jamie's leftovers helped, too.
