My friend and I were hanging out nearby and she was craving jajangmyeong. We looked up some restaurants in the area and decided to head here. We found parking on a side street, their lot is quite small and is shared with many other restaurants. We were seated right away and as soon as we sat down, the restaurant started filling up and people were lining up to get in. Guess we got there at the right time! My friend and I both ordered jajangmyeong and shared a plate of tteokboki. Honestly the jajangmyeong's one of the best I've had and it was very reasonably priced! The tteokboki was good too, just a little spicy but not too bad. My friend enjoyed her jajangmyeong so much, she ordered a second one to go. Service was quick, food came out quick and was piping hot. I decided to get delivery for Gangnam Jajang as I was craving ja-jang myeon and saw positive reviews for this spot. I ordered the ja-jang myeon, spicy rice cake and yuja ade. It only took roughly 15-20 minutes for the order to arrive and it came hot and fresh. Starting with the ja-jang myeon, it's so satisfying being able to mix in the sauce with the noodles. The black bean sauce is both salty, savory with a hint of sweetness coming through. The texture is thick and perfect which hugs the noodles with every bite. It also has a good balance of the veggies in the sauce as well. It is definitely very filling! The spicy rice cakes were soaked in a sweet and spicy sauce, with sautéed cabbage and peas. The flavors were really addicting and kept me coming back for more. The rice cakes were both delicate and chewy. Eating this dish alongside the pickled radish and onion cut through the richness of the dish. Lastly, I tried the yuja ade and was pleasantly surprised! I will say that it is very sweet, if you do prefer it to be sweeter instead of tart. At the bottom of the cup are these yummy almost candy-like yuja slices that practically melted with each sip. I'm so glad I decided to try it! Overall, the portion sizes are pretty big for the value! I was able to stretch the food across a few meals. I will definitely be eating here again! read more

Great service. Love the Korean chicken here and their Jajang noodles are really the standout. Tried their rice cakes which were spicy but good. The sautéed jajang was really good also. The cheese and onion fries are sweet so I wouldn't order the again but it was interesting to try. We also got their mapo tofu. It's different than the Chinese style but the taste was good - we ate all the tofu. Overall I still prefer the regular jajang noodles. But worth it to try the stir fried one. One of my many stops when in the East Bay. Went to Gangnam Jajamen on Telegraph and enjoyed the meal! I got the half jajamen, japong tang mak su, and Amangchu (mango in peach iced tea). I remember enjoying the jajang from here and recently ordered some jampong. Recall noticing that the clientele and looked pretty young (think college students). I was shocked when I saw half a crab and a giant prawn, along with the standard mussels and squid, all in my bowl of under $20 noodles!! Then I started eating and realized how this place is adding such "fancy" seafood to their jampong....they're using low quality product. Crab tasted off and was real dark in spots, prawn was mushy in texture and almost bitter, there were also unopened (spoiled) mussels. I don't need all that "higher end" seafood in my everyday jampong. This dish would be much better if they nix the crab and use higher quality regular sized prawns, mussels and squid. If you're going to do it up, do it right with high quality seafood and I'll easily pay double for it (someone in the bay should really do that!!). read more

This review will have comparisons with yu yu za zang which is usually my go to for these cravings but opens a little later and I was on a tight schedule :( We got seated right away when we came as they opened, they gave us the option of hot tea or cold water which was great as it was a cold rainy day so the hot tea hit nicely. We ordered jjampong, jjajangmyeon, and tangsuyuk. They also give the usualy tray of yellow pickled radish, raw onions, and black bean paste. The yellow pickled radish here were extremely salty for whatever reason. I will start off w the strong stuff - the jjamppong The jjamppong when it came out had me and my bfs eyes wide open as we had never gotten half a crab with our noodles before!! The seafood toppings were very plentiful . The soup was very flavorful but the noodles seem slightly overcooked :( The jjajangmyeon was decent as well! Not terrible but also not mindblowing. The tangsuyuk.... This is where it missed the mark. Way more batter than pork. Like a sliver of pork and thick layer of batter. The sauce was also mediocre. Yu yu za zangs sauce is amazing with pineapple chunks that really amp up the flavor and the pork pieces are very prominently there. The restaurant itself is quiet small with minimal seating area and the kitchen is right behind the wall so you can hear all the happenings while they are making ur dish :) They are located in a small plaza with their own parking lot and there is lots of neighbord street parking as well read more

I went to Gangnam Jajang for my birthday with my family and it was a great experience! The staff were super friendly and accommodating. It is a very small location with limited seating, but we luckily didn't have a wait. The area seems relatively safe and there's a small parking lot out front. When finding this place on Yelp, I had originally thought it was a generic Korean restaurant. However, this place is more like a late-night stop for Korean street food. Their menu consists of black bean noodles (MY FAVORITE), fried chicken, spicy rice cake, & more. The food was good and tasty, with large portions. Their biggest con, however, is that there's no vegetables . Our meal felt pretty carb heavy and a dish with vegetables (or even better side dishes) would have been great. Another con is their lack of side dishes (they only give you raw onions). Other than that, I have no complaints. What I ordered: Black Bean Noodles 4/5 I looove black bean noodles, so I'm glad I enjoyed theirs! The portion was good and the flavor was strong, I just didn't like the texture of the pork that much (I'm a little picky about that). Spicy Rice Cakes 5/5 SO GOOD! Get it with cheese! Flavor was great, no notes. Seafood Noodles 3/5 Not for me. The flavor was good, but I probably wouldn't order it again (better dishes to choose from). Fried Chicken 2/5 The flavors were interesting and not my favorite. I ordered soy garlic and sweet and was not impressed to be honest. My go to place for jajang, jjampong, and korean fried chicken! The portions are great and I always leave satisfied! There is a small parking lot and some street parking, but beware of your belongings. Always keep everything out of sight. There's about 8-10 tables inside and some outdoor seating as well. I have only had it pre-packed so I was extremely excited! The parking lot is very small so look for street parking. We were seated right away, but the inside only has a handful of seating so arrive early, because by the time we left it was packed and people were waiting. Solid Korean food in a quaint / homey space. My girlfriend and I have stopped by here a few times since living in the east bay. We usual get the same thing each visit - An order of Fried Seaweed rolls, Tteokbokki and a Vegan Gan Ja Jang. The Vegan Gan Ja Jang is very solid - we were happy to find a place that has a vegetarian alternative to the traditional black bean noodles with pork. They sauce is rich and savory and the noodles have a good bite. The Tteokboki is solid but I've noticed that the rice cakes they use can vary. I preferred the texture of them the first time I dined here, but the second time they were a little over done and the shape was different too. With that said the sauce and the overall dish was good. And finally - the seaweed rolls... Honestly, no comments. Flawless execution and if I could, I'd just get a bunch of orders of these. Service here is polite and prompt - orders are taken quickly, and food is served fresh. If you're looking for a place that does Korean Food basics well, definitely give this place a go. P.S. Jamie W and I had just come back from a trip to South Korea where we had some awesome food. We've had plenty of Korean food in Oakland's Koreatown Northgate area before. However, we were having a particular hankering for authentic Korean cuisine on a random Sunday evening, so we landed at this casual spot because we never tried it before. It was a quiet night because only one other couple was in the place. It looked like just two industrious women run the place. The menu is definitely focused on comfort food with a lot of options around their fried chicken and rice bowls. Jamie decided to try the $13.95 Ja-Jang-Myeon, a bowl of warm homemade noodles completely covered in black bean sauce. The sauce was fermented and mixed with nice chunks of pork, cabbage, onions, and zucchini (Photo 10). It was tasty but a bit overwhelming. I went with the $16.95 Seafood Gan-Ja-Jang, a less oily cousin to the Ja-Jang-Myeon with the noodles and black bean sauce separate and the seafood portion a bit sparse (Photo 9). Just because we were in the mood for some gyoza, we also shared the $9.95 Fried Dumplings, a half-dozen with three stuffed with minced pork and three filled with chopped vegetables (Photo 7). Solid Korean comfort.
