I've picked up take out a couple of times since my last review and had to chime in here with how well they pack up take outs. I called in and ordered a traditional blood sausage soup $19 just this week. They said it would be ready in 15 minutes. When I arrived in 15, it was ready for pick up! There were 2 open spots in the parking lot out front. Everything is packed so well! The blood sausage slices are packed in a regular takeout container, the cabbage kimchi is packed in a sealed container, the radish kimchi is packed in a container as well. The soup is packed in a rectangular container that is also sealed. Nothing leaked! Everything was very delicious!
Come here for the Bossam and the tendon! The Bossam is bouncy and the marinated burdock provides that crunchy bite! While the tendon over chives is another collagen boosting dish. The tendon was tender and but still had good texture. We might have ordered too much and added a whole garlic soy fried chicken and spicy beef noodle soup. The chicken was lightly breaded which was good but we found some of the white meat to be a bit dry. The sauce was also quite light if you're into that! The dark meat of course was juicy and delicious. The soup was also quite light, there wasn't a super beefy flavor and the noodles didn't quite absorb the savory soup. The staff was helpful and attentive and the tables even house all your utensils and napkins in the side drawer. There's a small parking lot with a security guard as well!
If you read my previous review of this restaurant, you'll take note that I had never set foot in here. That's because it was such a convenient food delivery spot for me during the pandemic that I never bothered. This was my first in-person dining experience here. Instead of pouring contents out of takeout containers, Jamie and I were engaged in a very hands-on preparation of our hotpot order. We went with the $47.99 Medium Pork Bone Casserole which served two hearty appetites (Photo 7). It consisted of a mammoth, meaty pork rib mixed with cabbage, potato, and sesame leaf in a flavorful soybean pork broth. For even more calories, we also requested the $3.99 Ramen Noodles (Photo 5). Add the generous servings of Banchan (Photo 4), and we were assured our gluttony remained intact. This was our second time at Moo Bong Ri and boy was the line looooong. We waited over an hour and didn't have dinner until 9:30 pm. When we finally were seated, we were really excited to order the rose carbonara but it tasted different than when we had it over half a year ago. It was much spicier and oilier than before. We also had some fried chicken and that was a miss as well. The saving grace was the galbitang dumpling soup we ordered - the broth was very savory and the dumplings were tender.
I think I have a new favorite Korean spot in the Bay! It's a cozy restaurant tucked away in Temescal. Service was quick and the waiters were helpful. I came here on a really rainy day and this was the perfect place for warm, hearty soup. My boyfriend and I ordered the beef short rib soup and the garlic pork wraps. The portions were massive! We were basically able to make this 2.5 meals and we're both pretty big eaters. The soup was so flavorful despite being light, and the short ribs had a good chew without being too stringy. The garlic pork wraps were also delicious. I ended up ordering the soup again a few days later when I had a stomachache! I'll definitely be back here sometime in the near future.
OoOoo expectations are high. Only because I've been to countless Korean restaurants. I mean, back in my day we were still allowed to have an analog cigarette while we're smashing down a dozen soju cocktails, so I kinda know what to expect. The wait time was pretty standard. Came on a Friday night for dinner for a 4 top. Waited around 30 mins or so and was seated. As for the vibe check, yah not a date spot. This is more of a family or friend meet up. On the menu: soy garlic chicken, creamy rose spicy rice cake, pork belly wraps, and spicy tofu soup. Mhhhmmmm I dunno - the banchan was lackluster - where's the daikon, potatoes, or something that's not spicy? Everything was spicy, so there was nothing to cleanse the palette. The obvious winners are the soy garlic chicken and creamy rose spicy rice cake - we literally devoured the whole thing. I'm on the fence about the pork belly wrap. Not a fan of the sweet pork -- I'm more of a samgyeopsal kinda guy. All in all. This place is still great and I enjoyed the food. Solid 3.5 stars. Oh what's cool is if you have left overs they shrink wrap it like boba lids! Yes, I thought that was really cool -- lol
One of my favorite Korean spots in Oakland. Big portions and super tasty food. The rose teokboki is one of my favorites, I love the long chewy rice cake shape. The fried chicken is also really tasty. Service is good and seating is comfortable. We sat outside and it was nice to get some fresh air as well.
Came here for lunch. The wait wasn't bad. The ambiance is casual with tv and music in the background. The food was served timely. The service is fair.
No wait just before 6pm on a Sat but it filled up quickly after. Got the tteokbokki, some wings, and the bossam. Huge portions and everything was extremely tasty. They boxed the tteokbokki in a plastic togo container with a sealed plastic lid which prevents and leaks which was a nice touch. Server checked in often. There's a small parking lot in front but I just street parked a block over.
When I first visited this place a few years ago, I thought it was just okay. But after giving it a chance recently, I was shocked by the improvement. I ordered the same dishes and I honestly was surprised by how delicious their chicken have gotten. Crispy. Hot. Tasty. It was addicting. The portion size is also a lot - very worth the price you pay for. I'm not exactly sure what changed - maybe it was just pure luck where I went on a "bad" day a few years ago, but I am very glad I gave this place another chance. Definitely try this place out! It's a stand out amongst the Korean restaurants within the vicinity.
I really wanted to try Blood Sausage Soup after hearing my friend who just came back from Korea, say she had it three days in a row. Luckily, I found a place tjhat serves it! I ordered the Spicy Blood Sausage Soup, which came with blood susage, broth, offal and meats. I would say the blood sausage had a really interesting texture, chewy but soft at the same time. I don't fully get the hype around it, but the flavor was really good! We also tried the Spicy Stir-fried Octopus & Noodle, which tasted really delicious. it came with lots of small octopus and shrimps, and the flaor was enhanced by Bonito flakes and sesame oil, giving it a really unique taste. I would highly recommend this dish!

We were a party of four on a Friday night around 7:30 PM and wait about an hour. Must-haves: -MBR Wings (Soy Garlic): Juicy wings with a crispy batter, lightly tossed in a savory soy garlic glaze. They always come out freshly fried, and the wings are a great size. No skimpy pieces here. -Rose Tteokbokki: Made with thinner, longer tteok, almost like tteokbokki "spaghetti." It's cooked in a creamy gochujang sauce that's rich but not overpowering, which I actually prefer over the usual tteokbokki sauce. There's also a nice kick of spice. -Assorted Intestine Soup: Not for everyone, but if you're into this kind of dish, it's excellent. Served bubbling hot, slightly spicy, and the intestines are cleaned properly. Finished with perilla leaves, which adds a nice herbaceous and nutty flavor. We also ordered the medium-sized Galbijjim, which was supposed to be enough for two people. The portions were very generous and we had plenty leftover. Flavor was good, though I personally would've liked the meat a bit more tender. Lastly, their house-made kimchi and kkakdugi are fermented and seasoned perfectly.
Met up with a coworker who drove to this place for lunch. We were lucky and got a parking spot bc it is located in a small business strip with other food places so the parking lot was filled up. Even though my fried. Recommended this place, I knew it had to be good when authentic older Koreans were eating here in groups. We had a noodle dish, soup, and fried chicken which was perfectly crunchy. The food was very filling and loved how they sealed the leftovers for us to bring home and keep fresh!
Absolute best/favorite for Korean short ribs. This is my partner & I's current favorite Korean restaurant and we always order the spicy braised short ribs. Very big serving size with all the best mixes of toppings on top of the delicious short ribs. The sauce is so good and makes the dish 15/10. Service is ok but that's biased because we order the biggest/longest to cook dish but it's still pretty good. Restaurant ambiance is just ok in my opinion, not too many distracting decorations and tables & booths feel nice. We've also tried the spicy rice noodles which were just a 6/10 for me. The kimchi fried rice was also good but not our favorite -- solid 6/10 as well. We literally just come here for the short ribs. So if you're ever in the mood for Korean food and feeling a little 'rich', this place is a must try. read more

Alright, I see all the great reviews, so I'm willing to give this spot another shot and order the "right" things next time. But until then, my rating is based on exactly what we ordered. I was violently craving seolleongtang and did some research to find a spot in Oakland. The menu is pretty big with a lot of enticing options--I love bossam and blood sausage--but because I had tunnel vision, I stuck with the soup. The broth itself was good, and they had salt and pepper on the table so you could season it to your liking. Unfortunately, the noodles were way too soft and almost mushy, and the meat was extremely tough and hard to chew. I couldn't finish it. If seolleongtang is one of your favorite dishes, I'd probably skip it here. My husband got the kimchi fried rice, which was huge and great for sharing between 2-4 people. Based on the portion size, I do think it could use an extra egg, more Spam and some nori on top. It leaned more oily and buttery than other versions I've had, but it was still good--just nothing too special. The vibe and service were solid, so I'd come back to try other dishes and update my rating accordingly. read more

Our favorite Korean spot. It is always packed! We like to come here for early lunch or dinner and the food is so delicious. The beef rib soup is reminiscent of how my mom would make bone broth at home. The fried chicken is a must. You can order half or whole chicken! Definitely stop by here! There is also a simmered beef dish here on a hot plate that we order at times. I don't remember the name but I love eating the beef along with the vegetables in this dish! Very delicious! You'll find families and groups of friends dine here. It's casual and the service is quick and efficient. read more

Got a bit too adventurous with their traditional blood sausage soup combo. They give you enough protein to begin with. I wasn't able to finish it all in one sitting. I'm also not used to seasoning it myself. Definitely needed to go a bit harder on the seasoning. Anyway I thought it was a pretty good price and I haven't seen this offered in other korean restaurant I've been to. Excited to come back and try their other items! Side note: was not impressed with the fried chicken. The sauce mainly sat on the bottom. The chicken had little sauce so the flavor was lacking. Finally decided to give this place a try since we noticed the line whenever we visited Don Blanc. I supposed they are known for their casserole. A casual eatery, small and.clean. We came on a weekday so we got seated right the way. Looks like the pork belly Salm was popular and most of the dishes on the menu were meat focus. So we decided to order an army stew, the kimchi dumpling and the garlic wings. The stew was quite salty and I think the wings we okay. Maybe we ordered the wrong dishes. Solid spot for Korean food in Oakland. They do a great job on a wide variety of dishes. From crispy wings, to soft tteokbokki, everything was very tasty. My family and I came on a rainy weekend for lunch-- thankfully no wait! What we ordered in ranked order: * Bossam - pork belly was tasty!! Just wish it came with more cabbage (extra charge for more) * Rosé tteokbokki - good texture and sauce * MBR Chicken wings - good fry! Nice and crispy * Seol long tang - refreshing, but wasn't my favorite Kimchi was good too! Service is OK. Need to be assertive if you need something. Ambiance is cozy. Good for groups smaller than 4 people. Parking can be hard to find. Overall, would recommend checking out! read more
Great place to eat with family and friends. Located in a small little plaza with limited parking, this place serves a variety of staple Korean dishes. I'm huge on gamjatang- the fam and I ordered their serving good for 4. It was delicious, but the meat could have been cooked a little bit longer. It wasn't as tender, fall off the bone tha I'm usually used to. Their KFC had nice flavors. Meat was a bit hard, wish it had more of a crunch. Otherwise, their pasta was soooooo good. Came for dinner on Thanksgiving Day and had a surprisingly short wait. Arrived at 6:35 PM and was seated by 6:50 PM. Each table has a hidden utensil drawer on the side and note that the fried chicken takes about 20 minutes to prepare, so plan ahead if you order it. We ordered the rose rice cakes, calamari, a half order of soy garlic chicken, the spicy beef rib soup, and the pork rib stew. Banchan came out quickly at 6:54 PM: pickled onions with jalapeños, kimchi, and kimchi radish, plus a side of radish with the chicken. The pickled onions were excellent, spicy with a great kick. Kimchi was standard, and the radish was refreshing. Rose rice cakes arrived at 6:59 PM. The portion size was quite big. The sauce was sweet probably something I would've loved as a kid on a cold, rainy day what with the sliced up hotdog and fish cakes. Calamari leaned more toward overcooked squid; a bit tough for my taste. It was also more battered than squid, which was a bit disappointing. I did dip it in the sauce that made it taste quite good though. Spicy beef rib soup was the standout dish of the night, fall-off-the-bone meat, perfect level of heat, and really flavorful. Could've used a touch of salt, but that's easy to adjust at the table. Absolutely delicious. Pork rib stew was interesting... uhh I dunno how to really describe it... earthy and herbal definitely not the flavor profile wasn't for me. When the soy garlic chicken came out, my friend said his boneless breast piece was dry, but the drumstick was astronomically better. I thought it was pretty good overall though. There are parts of the chicken that are more dry then others, but that's what happens when you fry a whole chicken. Overall: It's a good restaurant if you know what to order. Some dishes are fantastic and make the meal worth it; others you could easily get better elsewhere. No shade, just the reality of the menu. read more

Came by for lunch on a weekend. The lunch rush by then died down, so we were seated right away. The menu is quite extensive. There are a lot of options of Korean foods - can get something more traditional like their soups or something more Westernized like the fried items. There's something for everyone. Ended up getting the large spicy acorn noodles, sausage soup combo, and pork belly wraps. It ended up being a lot of food for four people at a decent price point. The bossam was amazing - the pork was so tender. The soup was very heavy in pork flavor and such a good way to wash everything down. The soondae was good. They ran out of a specific type that goes in the combo, so supplemented with something else. Acorn noodles weren't very spicy. A very good option for a carb item. It comes with a lot of greens too, so it doesn't feel too monotonous. A solid place for Korean food if you're in the area. read more
Whenever I visit Oakland and crave Korean food I will go to Moo Bong Ri. Love their fried chicken with garlic soy sauce and spicy galbi jjim. Big portion, great quality, always have to pack home some leftover which they plastic sealed for your convenient to reheat at home. The restaurant is always busy during dinner time, I waited about 30-40mins during my last visit for Friday's dinner. Staff provided good services, the ambience is good for small and medium groups of people, also serve alcohol. read more

Cute little spot on Telegraph with decent service and good banchan. I had the seollongtang soup with brisket, and it was exactly what I was hoping. It's hard to find good seollongtang, so I'm so excited to have a good spot in Oakland! read more

Had a craving for some Korean food in particular for the spicy braised short ribs, I came across this restaurant in Yelp and decided to try due to their good reviews. Even though we were only eating for two, we decided to order the large size of braised short ribs so we can have some leftover and the difference in price wasn't that much. It's $69 for small (1-2 people) and $$83 for large (3-4). The ribs tasted so good, but I think I would prefer spicier sauce next time. I wish they would have asked the level of spiciness. I asked the waitress something to make the sauce a bit spicy, and she gave me some fresh chilli cut. We also ordered some Korean fried chicken (half order). The portion was also pretty big and the sauce tasted hot and sweet (it's called Yangnyum sauce). Overall, I will definitely make another visits in the future when I have the craving for some Korean food and to try some other delicious options. read more

Literally shocked I haven't written a review for this place yet. Moobongri is hands down the best Korean food on this side of the bay area. Their rose tteokbokki could carry this place on its back if it wanted to but everything else is delicious too. The galbijjim is good but not Daeho good but the bossam is a must. The soups are so flavorful and underrated, especially the spicy short rib cabbage soup. Always so clean and quick service. Make sure to check waittimes on weekends and peak hours. Can get busy but have never waited more than 30 minutes in the 5 years I've been coming here. The side dishes they provide depends on the dishes you order. This is usually our go-to spot for whenever we don't know what to eat in Oakland or special nights like family birthdays. read more
Love this place. Brought my family here this time! Sooo yummy as always. Love the table set up where they have this little drawer that pulls out with all the napkins, silverware, and extra bowls. We ordered the braised beef short ribs for 2, mool naeng myeon cold noodles, brisket on rice, and soy garlic fried chicken. Also came with lots of kimchi and pickled radish banchan. And rice! Spicy braised beef short ribs: 5/5 SO GOOD. HUGE portion. Could be enough to feed 6 people. Took home leftovers. The meat right off the bone was so soft and flavorful and literally melted in my mouth. The rice cakes were the perfect chewiness and really soaked up the soup flavor. Came with cucumber and pickled radish slices too. Brisket on rice: 4/5 Yummy but nothing too special. Came with some beef broth which tasted delicious when soaking the rice in it. Also got some crispy rice from the bottom! The chives really added to the flavor. Soy garlic fried chicken: 4/5 Don't usually get fried chicken just because of the low nutritional value but indulged myself in a piece today. It was so crispy on the outside. Amazing soy garlic flavor. Coated really evenly could barely tell there was a coat! Inside was a bit drier than I would have preferred but still really yummy. Wasn't oily at all! Overall had a very enjoyable meal. Music was all K-pop but not too loud. Service was pretty fast. Had to wait about 10 min to get seated because it was very busy, which is a good sign! (There was a never ending flow of people coming in which just goes to show how popular the place is. Lots of Koreans too, so must be authentic.) Anyways we decided what to get during this wait so we could order as soon as we were seated. Then the apps came and not long after, all our orders. The wait was pretty long. But understandable and worth it! It was a very enjoyable meal! We almost finished all of it but took a little bit of the soup to go, which they packed for us! It's not a big restaurant so seats are limited. The only thing I'd say is be careful if you're sitting where the chopsticks and napkins are under the table I hit my leg on it so hard ! read more

Service was horrible. The waiter photo attached was very rude and dismissive. He took would not address my concern and when I tried to notify him of my food allergies he didn't seem to care or take it serious. I ordered but ultimately decided to leave befor The brough the food out. I'll find a new place but never would I give my money to a place that was so Disrespectful otherwise the parking lot is pretty crowded. A lot of delivery drivers are in and out. No regrets about trying this place out! It reminded me so much of one of the restaurants I visited in Seoul, the vibe was amazing. The servers were very welcoming and friendly. We ordered the sausage soup combo and added $1 to make it spicy. We were debating whether to get the Bo Ssam, but I'm glad we tried the sausage dish first. It was so good. Condiments like fish paste, gochujang, spicy salt and pepper, and the basic salt and pepper were all readily available on the table as soon as we sat down. Even the utensils were tucked away in a small drawer under the table, something I've only seen in Korea. The banchans were super fresh too! We also ordered half of the Soy Garlic chicken and a full order of the Yangnyum chicken to-go for some friends who were drinking at home. They all loved it! They said it was perfectly crunchy and juicy. Definitely planning to come back to try the Bo Ssam next. The prices were very reasonable for the quality, and the flavors were so authentic. The portions were very large, but unfortunately the food quality and taste were not what I expected. I ordered galbijjim, and it came much spicier than I could handle. The staff never mentioned that it was spicy or gave any warning, and because of that my allergy was triggered and I had a very difficult experience.I hope the restaurant can be more careful about informing customers when dishes are spicy, especially since it can affect people's health and safety. read more
Great Korean food in the east bay. My favorite is the rose ddeokbokki. It is a massive plate that can honestly just be a meal itself. All their servings are very big so if you're by yourself or with one other person, I would just stick to one dish. They place isn't massive so there is usually a line. The parking isn't great either so be prepared to spend some time looking for parking and waiting to be seated. Otherwise, the service is pretty standard and food is great. It's not the cheapest, but it is reasonable for the bay area. They do have kpop blasting in the restaurant, so if that isn't your vibe, prepare for that. read more
MBR had great selection of items to try, ranging from soups/stews to Korean fried chicken. We went as a party of 3 and opted for the beef short rib stew and soy garlic chicken. The stew had good flavor but the meat was not as tender as I would have liked it to be. Many pieces had more bone than it did meat. However, I may be a bit biased coming from the South Bay and comparing it to the likes of Daeho. The Korean fried chicken was just okay. I've been to MBR a handful of times and every single time, I want to come back to try their other dishes! At lunch, parking is not an issue. The lot is pretty small and there are other dining establishments, so when we came once for dinner, we actually had to park down the street in the residential area. Not horrible, but just be mindful. As for the food, the banchans vary based on what you order. I highly recommend the pork belly wraps (bossam), it's perfect for 4+ people. With only 4, we couldn't finish it and brought it home. The rose creamy rice cake dish reminds me of carbonara but Asian! It was delightfully sweet but creamy. The beef short rib soup with glass noodles were so fresh and tasted like comfort food. We've also ordered their spicy braised beef short ribs and it was a massive portion. For the price, it's a steal compared to Daeho. Their fried chicken cutlet was also amazing. There were two layers of meat and their salads complemented the fried meat. Lastly, their fried chicken is a must order. The chicken pieces were huge and the meat was perfectly proportioned to the batter. Overall, this is the place to get Korean food! Super laid-back, a little loud, but seating is perfectly for large groups or smaller with benches and tables and chairs. read more

Yes they have outdoor seating, not a lot but it lines the side of the restaurant. However they are severely understaffed, so it's difficult to get the attention of the staff if you choose to sit outside.
