It was flavorful, comforting, and came in a very generous portion. I do wish it had a bit more heat, but that's an easy fix next time, just ask for extra spice. Unfortunately, the shrimp fried rice didn't hit the mark. It was a bit too soggy and lacked that satisfying texture you want from fried rice. There were three different options for the AYCE menus. We went with menu A which was the middle option because came with the galbi option, my favorite! It also included a few Korean fried chicken options as well not included in the B list. The AYCE option came with a few included starters, including a dumpling, shrimp tempura, salad, tteokbokki, and cheese corn. The tteokbokki and cheese corn were both disappointing and congealed by the time we got them. Not sure if they were precooked and sitting around, but it seemed to be the case. There were four banchan options that came out as well which were tasty enough. I'm used to a lot more banchan options though. As for the meat, I selected four different kinds- beef belly, wine pork belly, galbi, and bulgolgi. The galbi and bulgolgi were both the stand out items for me. Definitely order those two. You do the cooking yourself here. I cranked up the heat to the grill an extra notch because I felt like it could use a little more after cooking the first two items. I also special requested lettuce leaves and raw garlic, as they were not on the menu. I was excited to tried their fried chicken wings in soy garlic and spicy flavor. The outside Hangul characters (백두산) is "Baek Du San" (#1) is a nod to the the tallest mountain along the North Korea-China border and the initial menu was rooted in bunsik (분식) style foods of Joong Han culture. As of right now, many of these foods are no longer served. It's clear that new ownership has turned this place into a shell of itself as a pseudo Vietnamese-Korean eatery. Previously the allure was clear: no pretense vibe with Korean ajummas in the back cooking up something delicious. Many traditional items such as soondae, mandoo, yukejang, dubu kimchi were stripped from the menu in favor of incorporating Vietnamese dishes that include com chien, banh mi, cha gio and pho. Even banchan now costs $1.99 as listed on the menu? (#2) Overall, the Korean portion of the order was extremely underwhelming. Gamjajeon (potato pancake) were served in mini circles and was laughably accompanied by an oversized Tramontina kitchen spatula. (#3) The cheese corn tasted like literal microwaved canned corn with a smattering of mozzarella on top. Instead of the jajangmyeon (which I was under the impression was unavailable), I went with the naengmyeon which semi-looked the part, but was sadly bland. The same bodes for the soondubu jigae, which was loaded with tofu and meats, but was still lacking. Instead of lamenting what could have been, I decided to focus on their Vietnamese portion of the menu. A plain pho with a side of cha gio was ordered and it was just as disappointing as the Korean fare. Bland broth and really subpar. While service tried their best, they seem understaffed. Many tables during my meal were not cleaned, with piles of dishes just sitting out in the open. Due to the slow service, it was a wait for some of our items. Ordering in Korean is practically a no-go, though Vietnamese is an option. There are some inconsistencies with the current status of the menu and they really need to adjust music they're playing.
