I have been to this place numerous times for their Beef Bihari Kabab which is their signature dish. Anything else is just average. Service could be a hit or miss, specially when they are full house. The cuisine is typically Pakistani , not the usual Indian style which you can find anywhere. read more

I like the food in general, but the place is a bit shady. The workers seem to be on the same page about customers that they want to target for "special treatment." For me, I have been there only a few times and here is what I have experienced" 1) When I was younger, there was a piece of metal left in my kabab, which broke my tooth. I thought that was an honest mistake but something similar happened again. Luckily I did not bite down hard this time. 2) Recently, an outwardly polite worker, called me "SAALLY" which is curse word, as I was leaving after I had pointed out that they had miscalculated by bill. I promise, I pointed out the mistake very sweetly. The curse may have been for the benefit of other customers' ears as a cover for overcharging. They have a clever ruse of acting like they don't understand what you saying, combined with acting overly sweet and innocen and that they don't understand how to add. Then they overcharge. 3) Some of them stand too closely to me or reach over me to get supplies, as if I am not a human being - this is always the case and it is odd. 4) Often I feel they don't want me in the store. If you are not the ideal, obedient, "please charge me whatever you'd like, I am too innocent to be alert" customer, then you have to also be thick-skinned to venture in there. read more

Gosh, I forgot how delicious Indian kababs and gosht (goat) biryani was. We ordered 4 kebabs, 2 naans and a gosht biryani to go, and it cost us a mere $16. One dollar naans where my favorite part. Everything was soooo scumptious, I am sure I'll be picking up more food here, well, at least kebabs. I recommend this place for those who can get past the rather sketch/ghetto appearance of this place, and those with touch tummies. Also, I had forgotten how how delightfully phallic kababs can be... I'm so lazy in rating place but with this place, I felt obligated to warn other people to stay away or risk a bad service. Waiter serving is rude, with dirty hands handling food, utensils and the brim of glass [definitely need straw or risk contamination by bacteria]. Um big mistake..it doesn't look nice inside at all which I dismissed thinking the food will be great ...but the food wasn't that good either neither were the prices . I have been getting take-out from this place for quite some time now. Huge menu on the wall with real cheap prices and great food. The seekh kababs are awesome and always made fresh right in front of you. The chicken, lamb and beef seekh kababs are a must with the green yogurt sauce and try the sweet sauce as well. All this with a piece or two of naan and you got a great meal. My other favorite non kabab menu item is the Chicken Mahkni. The sauce in the Makhni is great for dipping naan in as well. God, so tasty!! They have great chicken samosas also for a buck a piece. Not to crazy about the buffet upstairs though. Probably why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. Only did the buffer once. My wife and I were disappointed due the fact that they basically ran out of everything at the time. Many complaints that day as well so I know I wasn't the only one but this wont stop me from coming here to get take-out. It's just that good. Parking is always a bitch but I seem to always get a spot somewhere close. Service is great and super fast. read more

I am giving Kabab King 2.5 stars only because of my two decade long relationship with them, their food isnt spectacular (though their catering can be) but it usually always hits the spot. The food is cheap (sometimes quality wise as well as money wise), quick (sometimes how quickly you get your food is alarming-I mean how old is it that you microwaved it back to life in a few minutes and served it to me) and is almost always tastes decent (sometimes tastes really good). The meat is not of the highest quality, you'll get bones, oil, scraps of meat...but hey, for that price you cannot expect the world. The masala is very typical of karachi food, not lahore. It is usually very oily, very heavy, sometimes can lead to an upset stomach on a bad night. My favorite, when in a pinch, has always been and still continues to be, a double beef kebab roll with their imlee (tamarind) chutney and raita (green yogurt sauce). Upstairs seating area is large and family friendly, service can take a while up here, usually is busy, whatever saalan, nihari or chicken makhani or kebabs we've gotten have been decent. Yes the quality has gone down in the past few years, the service isn't high end (i mean it becomes a grimy a taxi cab driver joint at night), the food is flavorful, fast and meets whatever craving you may have. read more

This place is really hyped up. After being bombarded by their ads on International TV I decided to try them out during a trip to NY and gave them a couple of chances to redeem themselves. Kababs are good but not outstanding, curry dishes are horrible. I was raised in Karachi so I can handle a lot of spices but you need a fire extinguisher here to bring your taste buds back to life. They have a lot of out of refrigerator microwaved stuff and they try to give them the appearance that they are fresh by garnishing them with a lot of Cilantro and green chillies but cannot hide the fact that the dishes were cooked a week ago. I would stay away from any curry dishes. BarBQ items are average to good depending upon what you order. The next morning a friend took me to the place again for breakfast ... what can I say .. horrible pori and chana and worthless halwa. And yes the place is dirty. I saw a cockroach crawling on the floor of the second floor with my own eyes. This place has fallen off a cliff. Whenever it comes to Desi restaurants in New York, be it Pakistani, Indian or Afghan, the service is one of the worst you will ever see. The food will usually be very good and close to what is made at home by our mothers on a daily basis for years and that is why many customers overlook the customer service part of it as they know what they will get for the price they are paying. No smiles, no hellos, and the attitude is of arrogance for no reason. They know the area is filled with Desis as its New York City at the end of the day and overlook service. Here at Kabab King, this had been a staple of mine since childhood. I would walk with my parents from our nearby apartment in Elmhurst and it has an emotional bond to it. The last few trips have not been good. I went the other night and the Bhindi wasn't cooked. You can literally see it was taken out of the stove quickly. Not to mention, in my previous 10 trips, the waiters have attitude and have messed up the order half the time. Every time I come in here, I hear another table had a problem with their order. I feel like the place has had new ownership and has dropped the ball completely. I see they are hiring people for a very low wage and it shows. The taste of the food is good. It used to be very oily and they have reduced that which is a good thing. The Chicken Makhani and the Bihari chicken are one of the best any restaurant can have. Their Kababs are great. I drove by Dera the same night and the place was packed. It showed me why where the food tastes similar and the service is slightly better than here. To top it all off, the owner has adopted a policy to all his waiters that actually see you sign your bill and just stand there and then loudly demand a tip by literally saying "TIP!" I have never seen that in any establishment I have been at where they actually tell you to give a tip when you plan on giving one. Let me go wash my hands in the bathroom off the food I ate from my hands and then reach for my wallet before you demand a tip. And for some reason, I still keep coming back. The food here is really good but this will change for many people if their service doesn't come up. Learn to stop cutting corners in terms of spending money and find some adequate waiters. read more

this place is awesome. i love the upstairs seating, its decorated like the dining room of one of my aunts back in the motherland. the bihari kababs are wicked, just get those and some naan and you will be more than happy. there are tonnes of waters around so you barely need to utter what you want and someone will get it for you. its not a 5 star classy place, just a good place to go with the fam or on your own when you crave pakistani food....i would make the trek from manhattan any time. its around the corner from the roosevelt station. read more

Having been to India a few times, I know what I am talking about even though I am just a white guy ;-) A (Bengali) friend told me about this place 6 or 7 years ago. He told me that he stops in for kabobs on his NJ-Long Island drives to visit family. Back then there were 3 Kabab Kings within walking distance of each other. This 24 hour place is the only remaining one. I hope it never closes down. While the ambiance may not exactly be there, the 2nd floor dining room is strangely anti-cool kitsch cool. The service is usually good, in fact it is always good once you figure out that you don't really have a waiter but that any waiter passing by will take care of your requests. If you've been there often enough the white shirted senior staff begin to recognize you, especially if you're just a "white" couple like us. The food is excellent! Our typical order consists of chikken tikka, chicken or beef bihari, naan and chana. We have tried and like their Indian Chinese although it is the kababs that we crave. We have also tried their chicken samosa (a bit greasy and not as tasty as a vegetable samosa), vegetable samosa (good but nearby Rajbhog has better ones), chapli kabab (pretty good), plain rice (fragrant basmati cooked to perfection), roti (whole wheat cousin of naan), onion kulcha (so-so). The only time I ordered biriyani, I thought it was a bit greasy and had very little meat chunks in the dish. Definitely not like the biriyani I had in Mumbai. However, a friend (originally from Bengal in India) to whom I recommended this place during his visit to NYC told me he had the best biriyani this side of the ocean. Perhaps they took care of him because he speaks Bengali and he struck up a rapport with the wait staff. If you like Indian style kabobs, go there for the food but not the ambiance. I went to kebab king first time today and most probably it's last time . Service is very bad . The cashier is very rude and don't know how to talk to costumers . We order roti and goat curry . Trust me we don't even eat anything. Goat curry is full with oil , 3-4 pcs of goat . And roti is big disappointment meanwhile we get home roti became hard Like papadams . The rice in the chicken biriyani was not cooked well enough; the grains were a little hard and there was no spice or flavor at all. The chicken seekh kababs were good. I was disappointed since this place blasts advertisements all over Pakistani television; they should not lower their quality just because they are popular. You'll notice almost all the reviews are either one or four-five stars. Because the place is a dive. If you're good with that, if you don't mind inconsistent service and bathrooms that are maybe not the cleanest, you'll enjoy cheap, tasty, usually freshly-made food. We went for breakfast, had great fresh hot pakoda and other Fried Things, left with change from a ten for two people. Also, note that this place is mere feet away from where the Q70 to the airport runs... you can get here from LaGuardia or vice versa in about 20 minutes. If you order to go, you have to grab the attention of one of the people behind the counter and hope they get the order right. They are usually gawking at any female that walks by. The kababs are dry, the entrees are swimming in oil. If you dine in, the bangladeshi waiters are too busy talking amongst themselves. They ignore you if you call them. Best TEA EVER! This is certainly not a place where I would sit down and eat. NEither do I feel comfortable in sampling the dishes because I have heard negative consequences following the tasting. I wouldn't know about the quality of the food, but I know the service leaves a lot to be desired. I went in for take out and stood under the sign that says "order here." There was no one in front of me at all but I stood there for a few minutes wondering why I wasn't being helped. I thought maybe they're busy, maybe they don't see me. However after waiting for a few minutes some Pakistani men came in and they were helped immediately. I was completely ignored. I'm not sure if it's because I'm not Pakistani or because I'm a woman who was alone. I just don't know. Almost everything here is so delicious and right on the money! This is my favorite restaurant in Jackson Heights right now. My recommendations are, chicken kabob, chicken curry, chicken biriyani and mango pudding. I feel like I want to try everything here because they just cook everything right.
