Three of us ate here one weekday at lunch; two of us were happy, and the third not so much. I got the Bihari chicken kebab, which was delicious. It comes with rice and a side salad, was a big portion of food, but remarkably low on grease. I enjoyed it a lot. One friend got the chicken korma, which was a much smaller portion, but also really tasty. He got a basket of assorted naan along with it, and their garlic naan in particular, is very nice. Another friend got the vegetarian thali. This was a bit of a sad affair. The starter was one single soggy onion pakoda covered with tamarind chutney in the smallest bowl possible. I had a tiny morsel (not worth the effort). Her thali came with Aloo Palak, which was ok, and Kaali dal, which was quite boring. The dessert was kheer, which was ok. The tiny portions of boring vegetables were disappointing. I got the masala chai which was very milky, and missing a tea bag. My friend got the mango lassi which was very good. They also have Limca and Thums Up, which is quite exciting. The decor is nice. The prices for some things, like the Bihari Kebab seem very fair, but for others, like the tiny portion of chicken korma, I don't think so. The veg thali is a complete rip off as its mostly naan and rice, and the actual vegetable component is very very small. The service is really good, and the decor is nice. First time @ Kababish and everything we ordered was superb! We savored a variety: Kababish Tandoori Platter, veg hummus wrap, biryani, samoosa, and garlic naan. Came across the place by accident, ended up getting the eggplant and stewed lamb (Nihari) dishes. Amazing.

The Naan was good,but it was burnt.Avocado salad was boring,not very visually appealing,avocado was not ripe,hard as a rock! I had shrimp appetizer and that was overcooked and sauce was like the consistency of water. Customer Service lousy,had to wait for 2 place settings,asked twice,straws and napkins did not appear until we sat for about 15 minutes.No knives had to get up to track some down. Even our 3 yr old twins gobbled up their plates. Great portions and flavors. Some high end places don't even cook this good. You want great food and a great atmosphere, this is the place to eat. On top of it, the service was top notch. They had some servers call out the night we were there. The owners as busy as they were, did not break a sweat or their smiles. I had the pleasure of eating here for lunch with some co-workers the other day. We were all instantly impressed with the excellent service and warm welcome from Sam, who we later learned was one of the owners in addition to being a lovely waitress. The food was also delicious-we had Naan, Roti, and Hummus for our appetizer. My coworkers had never had Roti before and became instant fans. We all had different versions of their lunch specials, which were large portions of basmati rice, salad, and two bowls of entree dishes portioned out for the special. The lunch specials all came with an onion appetizer and mango pudding desert. You could not ask for a better lunch for $10! My partner and I came here after reading good reviews on Yelp to give it a try for ourselves. This was a Sunday, right when they opened and it was just us and one other family in the restaurant. I started with a chai which was so sadly disappointing, as I usually look forward to "authentic chai" It had no spice at all but seemed to be heavily flavored by milk or heavy cream of some sort. Adding sugar helped but I didn't even finish the whole cup. I ordered from their "special weekend menu" the vegetarian plate ($15-$2 extra for garlic naan) which came with vegetarian biryani and two small dishes, one a chick pea dish and the other a vegetable dish served with a red sauce. The biryani was basically just rice with just enough flavor to to able to say it wasn't plain rice. The vegetables in the biryani were TWO slices of carrots. The only thing I enjoyed was the small vegetable dish with the sauce that actually had a good flavor and the garlic naan. My partners Nihari ($15) had a good flavor but was served as just a larger single piece of lamb in a thin broth, with nothing else to accompany it. It is also labeled as "fiery hot" but was mild at best. Overall it was definitely not worth the prices they are charging when better options exist nearby. read more

I've heard great things about Kababish since recently moving to the area, but my first visit still surpassed all expectations. The atmosphere and staff are warm, welcoming and made for an incredibly enjoyable dining experience. Place is a whole in the wall that you wish could be a diamond in the rough. After reading the reviews I was super excited to try and to my disappointment it lacked flavor and their spice level is not at an Indian spice level. The naan was dry and toasted way too much, seems like they freeze it and re-heat it. I kept hearing the microwave open and slam Why is there one anyway ?!! Definitely a great choice for vegans! Highly recommend. We ordered the Samosas, Bagar-e-Baigan, Lahori Bhindi, and Roti. Once we placed our order, the owner asked if we were vegan (we said yes), and he swapped out whatever chutney normally comes with it with a sweet-and-spicy concoction he whipped up. The Bagar-e-Baigan was INCREDIBLE and is now the best Indian (/Pakistani) dish I've ever had. The baby eggplants were tender and smoky in an amazingly flavorful sauce. So unique. The Lahori Bhindi (okra) was also very very good, definitely try it! One of the top 5 I've had (and I eat a lot of Indian food). Bonus: the owner said that he would happily swap in potatoes into any paneer dish to make it vegan! So happy to have found this place. We moved to the area a few months ago and have struggled to find affordable, high-quality, extra-vegan-friendly Indian food nearby. read more

My boyfriend and I had an amazing time at Kababish! Samreen the owner was delightful and her food is absolutely delicious. Their hummus was so creamy and the lam chops we got were very tender and moist. The kebab chicken had a wonderful smoky flavor and was perfectly seasoned. The ambiance of the restaurant is calm, inviting and very cozy. This is a great family restaurant, where you can even bring your own wine or beer without a corking fee. The food is authentic and healthy and reminded me of a home cooked meal my own mother would make. My order was incorrect. I called the restaurant and asked to talk to the manager. The woman who answered the phone said she was the owner, so I talked to her. She was nasty. Kababish ALWAYS gets my order wrong and I decided to call the third time it happened. I order once a week so three times out of four the order was wrong. She DEMANDED I bring the food back for a refund that instant! I explained we sat down for dinner and we discovered nothing was right when we pulled the food out of the bag. I would return the wrong food the next day, not that instant as the woman yelled and insisted. No remorse, no compensation for my time, my gas and my four trips to the restaurant and my home to get a refund for an order the restaurant couldn't get correct. I have even had them read the order back to me. Pointless. Manager/owner is combative in person and I'm NEVER GOING BACK to be intimidated by a restaurant owner again. This is the first review I write since the whole COVID thing started since I did not go out and have not done much ordering in. But this place deserves ALL the great reviews it can get. We were camping in Durham during Thanksgiving and I decided to order a Thanksgiving meal from this place. The place was more than reasonable for 4 people. My family and I were blown away by that quality and the quantity of the food. Absolutely everything was top notch! We got a delicious turkey, mashed potatoes which according to my daughters were the best they've ever had. We also got malai kofta and chicken makhani which were both bursting in flavors. The nan was outstanding and there was plenty to go around. The rice was perfectly cooked. We could not have asked for a better Thanksgiving meal. The crowing jewel was the owner who was a sweetheart and super attentive. So if you are visiting Durham like me run, don't walk to this place! read more

Wow! Owners Mr and Mrs Nawaz have something great going on here. The food and service is wonderful. Samreen Nawaz is a delight to see, she's always friendly and happy to see customers. The staff is attentive, always smiling and ready to assist. I have ordered take out from here few times but on Friday, we went for lunch. We had goat karahi, lunch combo, achari chicken and okra (we had to order a full plate of okra, it was that good) chicken 65, hummus with naans, combo chicken kebab platter. Everything was delicious !!! Being from Brooklyn where authentic Pakistani restaurants line up the streets it has been a challenge to find a good Pakistani restaurant here. My search is over! With so many indians (and indian restaurants) in the area, the bar is pretty high for Indian food - both because there are so many critics (that have had GOOD indian food) and so much competition, so when a new place shows up on the scene the expectations are always high. Unfortunately Kababish Cafe fails to live up. Last Sunday we decided to give it a shot and ordered a number of take out dishes from Kababish, all of which we found lacking in flavor and freshness - it was a disappointing experience. Now our experience could have been because it was Sunday - a slow day (in fact, we were the only customers there at 6ish when we picked up our food.) - but I would expect that with no other customers, making a delicious meal would be the first thing on their mind. Instead, showing up 15 minutes after we placed the order, everything was packaged and ready to go - perhaps a disappointing sign. Here's a breakdown of the meal: - Chicken Tikka Masala - probably the most common non-vegetarian indian dish out there, came out like it had been sitting all day simmering in a pot. The chicken was hard and rubbery - not moist and tender, a typical sign of over-cooking. Made me wonder how long it had been sitting around before I ordered it. - Daal Makhani - This was the oddest Daal Makhani I've ever tasted - my wife thought something was missing from it (though we couldn't place exactly what) and the overall dish was a bit too "green" (it's usually a brown color), and it didn't have a very smooth consistency. Probably one of the most unusual excuses for the dish that I've ever had. - Lahori Bhindi - This okra dish was "okay", though it really lacked in any kind of significant flavor. Some spice would have been nice... - Shahi Paneer - This dish was "okay", thought the paneer didn't seem to be very soft - it was more on the chewy side. The rice was very good though, and they gave us extra. Overall, this place has a long ways to go - I'd avoid it on a Sunday, and perhaps when ordering ask them to make the dishes fresh/to order. I know it sucks for a restaurant to have to throw out uneaten food off a buffet, and that making food from scratch during slow times can cost more in labor - but if you want to compete in this market, that's really what it takes. Serving what tastes like old food just doesn't cut it (and if the food is made fresh, it ought to taste that way...) We'll not be going back... read more

We were intrigued that this new restaurant was selling Pakistani cuisine and decided to check it out the other weekend. Kababish Cafe is a hidden gem tucked away in West Chatham Street, so if you're an East Chatham regular...it's time to check out this wonderful restaurant! We started off with the Chicken 65. The chicken was very moist and well-spiced and fried. However, we found that the chunks of chicken were rather large and so the flavor had not penetrated through the chicken. We would suggest marinating and frying smaller chicken pieces so that the outstanding flavor comes out more! For entrees, we decided to get the Pakistani Chef specials, the Haleem and Nihari stews, and some Kheema. They were definitely some of the most unique dishes we've ever had. The Haleem has a very mild taste. It's almost like a thick paste of wheat, lentils and shredded chicken. It went well with naan. My partner felt that it had too much clove in it, but I didn't really feel like it was overspiced. The stars of the night were the Nihari stew and the kheema! The nihari stew is this spicy, hearty brown broth with boneless lamb. The flavor of this stew is incredible! It's efinitely the type of stew that would go perfectly with some crusty bread on a cold winter night. The lamb was *out of this world*. It was the most tender lamb I had ever had in my life. It also didn't have much fat, and did not smell gamy at all! The owner told us that they boil their lamb with ginger and garlic for hours to make it tender and get rid of the heady smell of lamb! The Kheema (minced lamb curry) was also very delicious and paired perfectly with Basmati rice. If I had a minor gripe, it would be that the kheema was missing green peas that I'm used to having in a kheema. But the flavor was spot on! This is a family-run business, and they are very friendly, and service is great. They make all of their food from scratch and you can just tell from the quality of the dishes that the chef takes great pride in everything he cooks! My new go-to restaurant! I read the great reviews on Yelp and decided I had to give Kababish a try. For starters, they're right in downtown Cary, less than fifteen minutes from my house. Second, they offer BYOB with no corkage fee - whah??? My sister and I stopped in for lunch yesterday. Nice, comfortable, clean space, accompanied by pleasant background music that is not (as is so often the case in restaurants these days) blaringly loud. Our server was Foster - lovely and super-helpful. I believe my sister ordered the Lamb Boti Kebab. I had the Nihari (boneless lamb stew). It comes with naan, so you don't have to order that extra - and Foster threw in a complimentary side of rice so I didn't have to poach my sister's. Both were *so* good!! "Sam" - the wife half of the couple whose picture you can see on the Kababish web site - stopped by to make sure everything was as great as it was. She noted that they make an effort to get the spices exactly right; I told her that I'd asked for mild spice for my Nihari and at first bite thought they might have taken that to too much of an extreme - but then the flavor kicked in. Where's the LOVE button?! Three of us went to lunch today, impromptu after seeing Kababish Cafe​ listed in the CaryCitizen​ Facebook stream. The food was FRESH and amazing, and the service was exceptional. The lunch specials are $8 (veg) $10 (meat), include TWO dishes, rice, naan, and dessert, and are more than enough food for even the hungriest of tummies. Although I had the veg lunch special I had to try a kebab; the chicken kabobs were unbelievably good- hand-crafted kofta-style, full of flavor, very juicy, NOT your typical "chicken cube on a stick". Their dal (lentils) was the best I've ever had (and those of you that know me, know I eat a lot of lentils). For friends that prefer more mainstream fare, they also have burgers and very tasty-looking chicken wraps made fresh in house. Oh, and they even make their own bread/rolls/buns! The owners are SO nice, and they're really hoping to give everyone fresh, not frozen, home-made dishes. I think they nailed it! read more

I came here because of the good reviews. I guess my expectation was high, and I'm adisappointed. This place is just fine to me. Per Yelp reviews, we ordered lamb stew and lamb kebab. The stew was $15, but only had FIVE small pieces of lamb inside! I was surprised by the TINY portion! The lamb was very soft atender, which I like. The flavor was only in the stew, but didn't really go inside the meat. The naan was just ok, a little bit dry. The lamb kebab was dry and flavorless. Couple pieces were chewy. Maybe other people like this place. But it's just not for me. read more

They say that the best way to man's heart is through his stomach. With one bite of Kebab, Chef Yousuf and Kebabish cafe went straight to my heart! There are plenty of great Indian restaurant in this area, but this little place is special. Being someone who cooks Indian food often, I was in awe when I tasted the food at this place. This is how Indian food (more specifically North Indian/ Pakistani food) should taste. Do yourself a favor and go to this place. Almost everything I had in this place was delicately made and perfectly cooked. The food was so good that I went to this place 4 times this week! I even got it for 15 people in my office and everyone loved it. If I have to be nit-picking, I have to say that they might have to improve their speed of service as I was waiting for a little longer than I wanted for my food a couple of times. But being a 1 month old family run restaurant, I will give that a pass and hope they fix that soon. But when the food arrives, you realize that the slightly longer wait is well worth it. Chicken Biriyani- Very very good! Kebabs Platter- Exceptional! This is as good as it gets. The Lamb Bhoti Kebab was a little chewy-er than I would have liked. But the other kebabs melted in my mouth. Butter chicken- Very very Good! Saag Panner and Dal Makhni- This reminded two of my Punjabi friends of their grandmom, Enough Said! Haleem- Exceptional! Chaat Papdi- Couldn't not get another one. Dessert- This is where Chef Yousuf needs to get a lot of respect. Anyone can make indian desserts very sweet and get away with it. But it takes a real chef not to do that and make it the right way. I had the Rice pudding, Gaajar Halwa and Falooda. All three were understated, delicate and brilliantly made. My over-zealous review might sound like they paid me to write this. lol. But, few places have made me this happy after every meal. A must TRY if you ever want to eat good Indian food. A delicious place to eat in downtown Cary. The papdi chaat is a refreshing mixture of chickpeas, tamarind and yogurt sauce as well as a little bit of heat from some diced green bell peppers and some crunch from sev and other bits. Every place does it different, and so far this is one of my favorite renditions I've consumed. The malai kofta are plump, rich vegetable and cheese balls served in a creamy, tomato sauce. Order with a side of warm naan to sop up the sauce. Falooda is what I want every ice cream sundae to be--a scoop of vanilla ice cream floating in a wonderful rose syrup, topped with crunchy nuts and basil seeds for a nice mixture of textures and flavors. While I have no allergies or dietary restrictions, they have on their menu that they are able to accommodate special diets: gluten, vegetarian, dairy and vegan. Service is attentive and food is wonderful here. For dinner, should you feel so inclined, you can BYOB with no corkage fee. This place reminds me of Bosphorus--understated, really damn good food in a laid back atmosphere. I'll be back. read more

I must reveal that while writing this review I am awash in an aura of tandoori satisfaction which, until this evening, I had yet to experience. The meal tonight was, from start to finish, one of our families most memorable. I travel much for my job and when on the road if the craving for Indian or Pakistani cuisine strikes, which is often, I have now found the spot to which the high standard can be set by; Kababish. The husband and wife team who own Kababish, Yousuf and Sam, are warm, welcoming and very friendly. They made the whole experience feel as though they have welcomed us into their own home for dinner. The meal starts off with the most light and crispy papadam. My wife ordered the Saag Paneer which is just perfect in its balance of flavors. This came with the basmati rice, which is the some of the most light and fluffy aromatic rice we have had. Both of my kids loved the Kababish burgers, made with the same wonderfully flavorful chicken the Chicken kabab is made with. They devoured them. I had the Kababish Tandoori Platter with six different Kababs to enjoy and every sense lit up with pure delight. I must say, please take a stroll down into beautiful downtown Cary and visit this highlight of the city. You will surely be planing your next visit after the first bite. read more

Wow! I love everything about this place!! A friend recommended this restaurant that she goes to weekly. Our mastermind group met here on a Sunday evening for dinner. We were greeted with very friendly, helpful and accommodating staff. They let us know that we could order food to adjust to our dietary needs. They have gluten-free, dairy free, and vegetarian options. They brought out lentil bread. It was amazing! Very thin and crispy with wonderful flavor. I ordered the lamb kebabs which came out very fresh and temperature hot, along with very fresh and flavorful basmati rice and fresh green salad. Staff continued to keep our water glasses full throughout the evening. My husband ordered a dairy free pineapple mango smoothie and they refilled it at no cost. It was so creamy I couldn't believe it was dairy free! A nice varied menu of Indian and Pakistani food. Everything tasted so fresh and there was plenty of food. The decor is lovely with local artists' paintings throughout the restaurant. It was very clean and inviting. I will definitely be back to this place on a regular basis!! read more
