Oh my God it's so good. I'm so happy that I went to this place. The food was so good just how I remembered. I definitely will be coming here again. The people were so sweet.

Tucked away... weekend afternoon was busier than expected. There was someone singing karaoke. Nice but a little too loud. The menu is at the front. Average $15. Most people get the cafeteria style lunch with 2 or 3 entrees and rice. 2 entrees is $15. There is made to order items like noodles. Lechon is NOT included in the entrees and charged per pound! The workers patiently explained what each dish is in front of you. There are non pork dishes. Vegetarian options. Got the stir fried noodles with pork (either chicken pork or shrimp). It took a bit for it to be ready but not long of a wait. Big portion. Could split with someone else. They brought it out to me which was nice. There is cash discount. I recommend checking out if you want to try some Filipino food.

Pork BBQ on Skewer and some tomato based pork stew

I visited this Filipino store and café and discovered delicious Filipino food here. I ordered the large two-entree plate with a generous portion of steamed rice, selecting the savory pork BBQ on a stick and a richly flavored tomato-based pork stew (I can't recall the exact name). The flavorful and tender pork BBQ, well-marinated, boasted a delicious balance of sweet and smoky char from the grill. A wealthy, tomato-based sauce of the stew complemented the single serving of steamed rice, creating a comforting, hearty meal. I enjoyed browsing the Filipino grocery items while waiting for my food because the store had a welcoming, no-frills atmosphere. This place is worth visiting for a good introduction to Filipino food.

Its like being in the phillipines but in texas. 10/10. legit felt like being at a cookout. Karaoke the entire time. It felt very local and everyone knew each other. The cooks even shouted excitedly at the customer after us like "how you been" but in tagalong. Food was really good but hit or miss cuz some of it was out of my league. The chicken adobo, bbq, and the pork stew was 10/10. i had never tried kare-kare (a peanut buttery curry) and laing (taro leaf in coconut milk) before. I did not realize laing was made with dried fish. Its like the main thing. Way too authentic for me. But the halo halo was banger. Definitely get the halo halo. The Empanada was kinda just ok though. Could be more seasoned and the dough is a bit pasty.

Pork BBQ Stick - delicious! (May, 2023)

An extension to their grocery store is Kabayan's casual dining area. Eye-catching cafeteria-style buffet. A wide variety of Filipino dishes offered. Wonderful counter server in describing what I was pointing at all through the line. As with all buffets, most appealing to me are the dishes fresh from the kitchen. Delicious were the choices made on this visit of "Pork Belly BBQ Stick" & "Chicken Curry". Ordering off their board, I also tried two mainstays of this particular cuisine. Minimal tasty filling in their crispy "Lumpia"; and, though there was still a big chunk of ice not crushed, lovely was the ube in K's delightful "Halo, Halo"! CHEERS!

Kabayan is such a great place to get some high quality authentic Filipino dishes. My personal favorite is the Inihaw ng Pusit ("Grilled Squid"). However, they got some classics if you want to just introduce yourself to this cuisine - chicken adobo, pork bbq sweker, & pancit - just to name a few! There is also another location in Lewisville if you're in that area or heading that direction Visit the.pikachew on Instagram & Mukbee for more awesome food pics

Upon entering, I was immediately impressed with the vast amount of Filipino foods and goods they offered. There were pantry items, frozen, and refrigerated foods. The store was neat, clean and organized and I witnessed them restocking their shelves at the opening time I was there. I loved that they had a place for live music, the balikbayan box service to send good to the Philippines and then the hot foods they offered. Prices were fair and the service was great. I did not give a higher rating due to not trying the foods, just the goods available and the state of the store. All in all, I highly recommend.

This place is delicious!!! My boyfriend and I aren't that familiar with Filipino food and we wanted to start branching out, then we drove by Kabayan! The lady behind the counter was very helpful and answered all our questions. The menu was a little confusing for me, so I ordered by pointing at the food. Luckily, she saw how confused we look and offered little sample cups to help with our decision. All the dishes taste SO GOOD with so much flavor and perfect spice level. I got a 2-entrées plate ($10), and my boyfriend got the 3-entrées ($12.50?). Each curry dish came in a styrofoam bowl which is perfect because each dish is unique and I didn't want them to mix together. The spicy chicken dish was creamy with a small kick. It was spicy when I taste test it alone, but it wasn't bad with the rice. The pork belly and pork skewer were surprisingly good! It wasn't dry and bland as I imagined, but juicy and the burnt char around it added even more flavors. We devoured our plates and still had 2 bowls of curry left as leftovers. I really liked the taste, price and service here. Their dine-in area is nice, but make sure to clean up after yourself. They also have a little store on the left side that sells like snacks if you wanted to try some.

Panda Express style egg rolls. Almost all cabbage and it's burnt. $4 for 2 piece.

Please read before you order. I'm going to share the amazing things about this place first. THE BBQ sticks and Music! BBQ sticks are the only TRUE delicious thing here, in my opinion!!! Please before going all out to order anything else, do NOT have huge expectations. Here are my concerns: 2 beef sticks and rice is $12 (it's like $6 a stick). We were already eating there. To pay for 2 extra sticks should have been only $8. A small rice shouldn't be $4 added. Lumpia is a 1 star. Burnt, full of cabbage @ $4 for 2 tiny pieces. It's similar to Panda Express. Needs more carrot and celery. But the fact that it was Burnt and came out after we finished eating, was disappointing. Adobo is a 1 star missing the depth and all oil, no flavor. Flan is a very tiny piece for $5 The music in the background is 5 stars Didn't get full amount back for change, needed to send the lady to get my $10. Owners need to be more mindful when they ring up! It's not like a new cashier person's error. Plus, she isn't the nicest. Unappreciative it seems. I felt a little concerned about the change thing after reading that they add tip to the receipt on the other review, WHICH I already put a tip in the jar but not giving the right amount with my change, I felt she just felt ok to keep as a tip. Ask me first though. Don't use a credit card, they may put whatever they wish for tip!!! Again, read other reviews. The BBQ sticks were enjoyable at least. I'm thankful for that and that's why I didn't give a one star. Business practices should be evaluated. So much potential for this place! Just seems a little too hustly. And lady owner just should stay in the kitchen if she's having a bad day. She's too irritated. I hope she feels better. Lastly, I know times are tough. I don't want this review to dampened anyone's outlook. This review is an opportunity to make the situation better. That's all my intention is to bring back the fun and affordability to our culture. PS stop calling all the ladies "Ate"... please. For anyone that doesn't know what "Ate" means it means Old Sister. LOL

Dallas is finally getting some up-and-coming Filipino food from first-generation Filipino-Americans…read morewith a love for their cultural food. Not Your Lola's is one of these very pop-ups that you can catch around town introducing most people to their very first bites of Filipino cuisine. But these dishes aren't the exact translations of their parent's traditional recipes but rather their updated, inspired takes on signature flavors and dishes. Take for instance the arroz caldo, their answer to China's congee, but they ramp up this comforting rice and chicken porridge with a myriad of toppings bursting with flavor and texture. The ginger chicken base is studded with chicken and topped with spicy chili oil, funky kimchi, crunchy picked veggies, runny eggs, sweet pork floss and crispy chicken skin. This turns every bite into a different experience on your journey to the bottom of the bowl. This comes with combinations of hot, cold, spicy, sweet, salty, savory, creamy, crunchy, but all delicious. Take their version of champorado, a very chocolatey rice pudding frequently eaten for breakfast, but presented in dessert form, topped with bruleed baby bananas, toasted coconut and that signature drizzle of sweetened condensed milk. Sweet and moreish, this invites bite after bite until there is no more. They do more than rice, however. They've presented a beautifully braised coconut milk pork belly on a crispy sesame chip. It again balanced textures and taste sensations into one condensed, cohesive bite and appeared effortless. I am excited to see what they present next as they continue to innovate and serve food around town.

We looked over the menu and had the Lumpiang Shanghai to start which were really nice and crunchy with a sweet chili dipping sauce. For entrees we ordered the Lechon Kawali which was pieces of deep fried pork belly with two sauces and the Pancit Bihon rice noodles with chicken and pork. The Lechon was cooked nicely with some good crunch from the fried pork but it was lacking some seasoning and even with the sauces it needed a little more seasoning. The Pancit Bihon was very good with the rice noodles cooked with the perfect texture and some really good flavor with pieces of chicken and pork belly. We also ordered one of the specialty drinks Sago't Gulaman which is a brown sugar based drink with tapioca and house jelly which was very good. For me the service wasn't the best especially towards the end of the meal. We were given to go boxes and after that we were left waiting for a very long time waiting for the check and had to get up and head to the register for the server to hand us the check even though he wasn't busy and was just standing around, not to mention it wasn't busy at all. The food was good, the service could be better but we will be back to check out more of the food. Check this place out if you are in the Garland area.
