    Chicken Arroz Caldo and Tokwa/Baboy
    Tony P.

Update: December 6, 2025 Today and every weekend they serve arroz caldo ( rice porridge with chicken). I hope next time, they'll put boneless chicken. Also, tokwa/baboy (tofu/pork) marinated in vinegar and soy sauce, jalapeno sugar and pepper. Tofu is fried and pork is fried lechon kawali. It's delicious. Service is great and clean well lighted place. Lots of parking.

We've been coming to Kainan for years and it's always been our favorite Filipino restaurant for the value and the flavors. The old couple that used to be there were always so friendly and helpful when ordering. They sold the restaurant last year to a younger couple who modernized the restaurant while keeping some of the same flavors. However, we were surprised to see new ownership on our most recent visit. We decided to give it a shot and had a pretty disappointing experience. We came at 5:30pm and pretty much all the food was sold out already. We usually get pork adobo, beef caldereta, chayote, lumpia Shanghai, and pinakbet but they either were sold out or didn't offer any of it. More than half the items they had were sold out which is pretty bad. How does a Filipino restaurant run out of pork adobo! With that said we still ordered food hoping for the best but it wasn't up to previous standards. The tocino only had a few pieces of meat and the garlic rice was very mushy with no garlic flavor at all. The lechon kawali seemed fresh but the fried skin had a mushy texture. Pork sinigang wasn't bad but seemed to be missing some depth to the soup. They wouldn't let us order the sinigang as an entree combo item, which we've always done, so we had to order a whole big bowl of it. The guy explaining things also didn't have the best attitude and seemed flustered while prepping the rice and food to send out. Food took a long time to come out as well. Plus, they have this weird air freshener blowing some strong incense smell that was pretty overpowering. Just overall disappointed with the changes and overall vibe of the restaurant and probably won't come back for the unforeseeable future.

Yummy Filipino food here! The problem is there are too many delicious choices so if you're like me with indecision... don't worry the owners will help you. We settled on 2 dishes + rice for each of us. I got the adobo chicken + beef and potato. The hubs got adobo pork + mixed veggie dish with bitter melon/ string beans/ eggplant. You get a jumbo scoop of rice (YES!). Wow wow wow it's so delicious, you can drizzle the sauce on your rice... yummm. I also got the tiny ube steamed rice cakes. Perfect ending to a delicious lunch. We'll be back for the tocino, sisig, and the halo halo and super friendly service. This place rocks on many levels.

This was my first time having authentic filo food! The staff was very friendly and welcoming. He provided lots of good guidance and help with what to order. The shop had open seating options and many places to choose from.

It's been seven years since my last time at this Filipino restaurant, as well as I am extremely happy to say that everything I had was delicious and well-seasoned. It is truly pleasing when a restaurant steadily maintains its quality over many years even with a a change of ownership. I consumed the entire Beef Kare-Kare and the whole Kaldereta for this meal. Kaldereta was savory, tasty, and creamy, making it the ultimate comfort food. The Beef Kare-Kare possessed intense flavor where it could stand on its own, even without bagoong (shrimp paste) They don't have the usual bagoong for this dish due to the ban (eye roll), they only have alamang (another version of shrimp paste) to offer. Another thing that was a pleasant surprise was the larger range of Filipino desserts. Many customary favorites, like halo-halo and leche flan, and countless other sweet treats have been greatly improved. It is a fine way to conclude a large meal. Visiting again after all these years makes me completely glad. For anybody who haven't been back like me, this is your chance to visit them again. Make sure to check their Facebook page for for their daily menu and for what Filipino dessert they have available for the day.

Conrado is the new owner & operator of this Fine Filipino Dining spot, hidden in Plano! My wife & I dined in for an early dinner; Conrado operates the store; solo in the afternoon, dishes are prepped & precut in the morning. He has his 3 cute kids there, after school & they are very well behaved little ones, doing their homework. The service is awesome, Conrado took over the restaurant @ Dec of last year & has turned it in a productive & lucrative business. Overall, it's a hidden gem of old school Filipino authentic dishes that's made fresh & served hot! We had the sisig, dinuguan, beef soup & beef & vegetable mix. Real yummy & can't wait to come back! You're doing an AWESOME job Conrado! & you have a beautiful family! See you back soon pare

Love, love, love this Filipino place! It's a hidden gem in Plano that serves authentic Filipino food. We ordered the pork and beef combo, milkfish, spring rolls, pork vermicelli, and halo-halo -- and everything was delicious! The vermicelli was perfectly stir-fried and well-seasoned, and the halo-halo had all the traditional toppings -- creamy, flavorful, and so satisfying. Everything tasted homemade, which made the meal even better. The food did take a little while to come out, but it was definitely worth the wait. I'll absolutely be coming back whenever I'm craving Filipino food again!

I have been coming to and ordering from this place for years and always trusted them, but the recent ownership changes really show. I placed a big catering order for pick up weeks in advance for Christmas Eve pickup at 3 p.m. because I was throwing a 6 p.m. dinner party and I thought that was ample time. When I arrived, nothing was ready and there were lots of people just standing around waiting on their orders. No one could tell me when my orders would actually be done, which was incredibly stressful with a party clock ticking. I finally got my order right before 6, rushed home, and guests were already arriving as we walked in the door. When I left, there were still people waiting on their orders. The previous owners handled large orders so much better and I honestly miss them. The food might still be fine for a casual night, but I would not recommend this place for catering or any time sensitive big orders.

Im Filipino and this is a filipino restaurant ... went on a rainy saturday afternoon but this place does not dissappoint , their combo meals are pretty reasonAble price .. you can eat in or get your food to go. Im too lazy to cook and this place will definitely satisfy your filipino food cravings .. they are under new management .. i like the fact that they serve it in real plates versus styrofoam.. the place is very clean.. and the servers are very nice. My definitly go to place for my food cravings . By the way they have great desserts .. from kutsinta , puto and cassava .. i was too excited to eat it i forgot photos. I have to come back and try their ..silog menu

3.5* Nice owners - it is a hole in the wall in the Plano area. It is cafeteria style when you order, and the food options change, and are on a rotation, so there's not a set menu to choose from! You get your own water and bus your own tray when you are done. I had high hopes because of the reviews, and unfortunately, the food fell a bit short. Ordered the specials - 2 meat and 1 veggie and 1 meat and 2 veggie option specials from the menu. The meat was tasty, but felt super oily when I ate it, as there was a layer of oil for all the meats that were ordered. The mixed vegetables was my favorite, but the jackfruit vegetable option was my least favorite, and I would recommend not ordering it. The flavor was lacking for the jackfruit dish and the texture consistency was super off putting to eat. I would be willing to go back to try other items on the menu because the owners were really kind, but would probably order their drinks, so I did see a big family group come in and order drinks for everyone and leave.

I love your food. Have you gone back to the filipino buffet? I miss this. Thank you!

No. The owner told me they won't go back to buffet style ever. Plus the prices went up again and there is no more combo option.

Ever been hangry but can't figure out what to stuff in your belly? That's me tonight on a Tuesday…read more I ended up here and, honestly, I don't know that I'd go back. I got a small gumbo and catfish nuggets at 6.99 each. Even though they have a sign on the door for drink specials, apparently they didn't last more than like two months because they aren't offering that anymore. So I just asked for a water cup. 15.12 and you order at the counter and get your own drink. The water button on the soda machine sticks, so prepare for it to run for like a full 45 seconds before it magically unsticks. Gumbo came out in about ten minutes, but weirdly wasn't hot. Catfish nuggets came out about ten minutes after that (weird since they are both apps) and I asked for my soup to be reheated. I tried a nugget and it was ok, but there's like zero seasoning on them. Bland as my last tinder date people. For a place that touts New Orleans in the name, there's no creole/cajun influence here. Everything was just bland, especially the gumbo. By the way, he took it to reheat and by the time he returned it (14 min later) I needed to leave. He was nice enough to give me a lid and bag though. Service was ok, but there's like one guy and when he disappeared it was for ten minutes. I don't know if he was having to cook it or what but it made service slow. I've visited three times now and feel a three is appropriate. It's fine if you aren't looking for what the name implies.

I am not a big fish person and hubby loves something fried so a healthy fishy meal isn't our first go to, but we went outside our normal tonight. And we left so satisfied. Definitely a neighborhood local favorite on a Friday night, which is always a promising sign. Menu was diverse and seemed overall quite affordable. You could get many kinds of seafood cooked in practically any way you could imagine with large portion sizes. Bf got a plate with catfish and butterfly shrimp and I got a plate with cod. We split a side plate of fried okra. The okra was above average I would say, and we finished our plate of it. The fries were alright but nothing special, and I'd say the seafood was great. I enjoyed the shrimp I tried off of my bf's plate more than the cod, but it was all cooked well and portioned generously. The sauce it came with was tangy and paired well with the seafood.
